Closing variable window restores IDE window

in my opinion the following scenario could be improved:
During debugging of a program I open the variable window; after the program finishes, the IDE (integrated view) is the topmost window of my screen (secondary aspect: why? During debugging the variable window was on top of it...). I minimize the IDE with its _ panel button just to find out that the variable window though empty is still there (another secondary aspect: interestingly only the overall variable window, while the individual variable view has disappeared). So I close the variable window using its X panel button. Now, surprisingly, the minimized IDE shows up again and again has to be minimized. I feel that this should be fixed

This is akward, I either misunderstood or ir works for me.
As you are talking about Z plan, I assume you released the variable window. I also added the "Hide window while running option" and added a breakpoint in a callback. here is what happened on my computer:
* I compile and start the program, the IDE "disappears" and my topmost window is my GUI.
* I click the button related with the callback containing my breakpoint. The topmost window becomes the IDE
* I open the Variable window (Window -> Variables...). The topmost window becomes the Variable Window
* I run my program further using F5 or "Run -> Continue". The topmost window becomes my GUI and the Variable and IDE Windows becomes invisible.
* I quit my GUI (CALLBACK containing QuitUserInterface(0)). The GUI disappears, my topmost window is the ampty Variable Window and my second window is my IDE, as expected. This seem to behave correctly on my computer.
Now the second case where the variable windows is already open is slightly different: After the breakpoint, the IDE becomes the topmost windows (which is logical, this is where the breakpoint happen) and if i bring the variable windows to the foreground, after quitting the program, the empty window remains on the foreground.
Beside, I have an additional question: which advantage does the variable window brings as released window? It seem to me that it could be easier to have it confined in the IDE as the IDE will always be brought in the foreground when hitting a breakpoint.

I normally keep my Firefox window open for long periods of time because I have a lot of active tabs. When I close the window and reopen it, I am still able to restore tabs, but as of a few weeks ago, it has stopped restoring the most recent version. Normally, when I would close and reopen, the tabs would be the same ones that were open when I closed the window. Now, it restores to a version from a few days ago instead of the current version. I have to revert to pulling my more recent tabs out of the recent history. I checked my options and I can't figure out any way to control this. How can I fix it so that I can count on my Firefox window to restore the tabs that I actually care about?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Safari is opening using the resume feature. To disable that, quit Safari using Command+Option+Q or Hold Option when choosing the menu item Safari>Quit.

try to select the computer cd/dvd autorun off.
I had the same problem, then Kaspersky software found a conflict suggesting me this solution.
Itunes now works...even if it always asks to set the cd/dvd autorun on when lunched.

Closed Captioning Window slow to open

We have a team member using CP7 on a Win7 machine having a delay when he opens the closed captioning window. It can take up to 10 seconds for the window to open.
We just put him on someone elses machine and it didn't do that even when logged in with his credentials. He says it has done that through all the versions of Captivate that he's used on the XP and Win7 platforms and on previous computers.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?

Here's the fix to which I was referring, supplied by a colleague on Linked-In:
"There are 2 instances of a codec that need to be turned into a .bak file.
First you go into C/program files/Adobe Media Encoder CS5/MediaIO/codecs to find a file "SurCodeWrapper.vca" Change it to "SurCodeWrapper.vca.bak" do the same thing in C/program files/AdobePremiereProCS5/MediaIO/codecs with the "SurCodeWrapper.vca file there too. This WILL fix the lag. I think you lose surround sound encoding by doing this, but this hasn't been a problem for me."

How do I move a group of tabs before closing a window?

I recently lost all my custom settings on Firefox after an aggressive tech support person "cleaned" my browser settings. When this happened, I lost the ability to move my open tabs to a new group before closing the window they were in.
Previously, when I had multiple windows open, and I initiated an "Exit" or "Close" command on one of the open windows, 2 things happened:
(1) First I received a warning message asking me if I wanted to close the window
(2) Then I received a second warning message asking me if I wanted to move my tabs before closing the window.
Now, I only receive the 1st message, and I am no longer offered the option of moving my tabs to a new window before closing the current window.
I've tested this both with and without the Tabs Group Manager which I was using prior to the time my browser was "cleaned", and I still have not found a way to restore this missing feature.
Unfortunately, I don't know if this feature/option is:
-- provided as a default in Firefox
-- a customizable feature in Firefox, or
-- a feature in a Firefox add-on.
Can anyone tell me where/how to restore this option to move a group of tabs before closing a window?

Thank you, guigs2, for your feedback, and my apologies for the confusion. After rereading my question, I realize I made a couple of typos in my original help request which cannot now be corrected. Specifically, the 2nd sentence in the first paragraph should have read:
"I lost the ability to move GROUPS of open tabs to a new WINDOW before closing the window they were in."
This means that, as far as I can tell, neither of your plugin recommendations applies:
-- Apparently, Tab Mix Plus only applies to manipulating tabs WITHIN the existing window and, unless I am missing something, I did not see any reference to the option I'm looking for -- specifically, an automatic prompt offering to move groups of tabs to a new window before closing the existing window.
-- Unfortunately, the other plugin you mentioned (Tag Cloud) appears to be non-functional in the current version of Firefox, based on the most recent user reviews.
In light of this, I will consider the possibility of resubmitting my question with the typos corrected -- and, in the meantime, if there is any additional feedback that you (or anyone else) can offer, I would be most grateful!

Hacking into the form values file to retrieve a post after closing a window

Okay, I'd just finished editing and re-editing a very long post and was doublechecking some of the links when I inadvertedly closed the entire window instead of merely closing the tabbed page I'd brought the new link up on to test it.
I poked around and found a long binary file called "Form Values" in library/safari directory and I would just bet this has my full post in it. I copied it to the desktop because I had a feeling that if I opened another form with Safari, the info would be rewritten and lost forever. So I do have a safety copy now.
Anyone have any idea at all how I could retrieve that information, and convert it from binary back into text form so I would not have to spend another two hours remembering and rewriting the post?
Or a way of getting Safari to recognize it and read it into a new post form?
Boy, recovering data with a menu item like "undo close window" or a reopen sure would be a nice feature... I bet I'm not the only person that's done this.

I just downloaded Hex Editor and gave myself a trip down memory lane (hadn't used one of these editors since my DOS days). Anyway, as I expected, it looks like the Form Values file is encrypted - there are no recognizable text strings to extract. In any case, this file contains the data you used to fill out forms at particular sites, it does not carry the entire page or form.
You could try Retrospective to see if you can find the page with the form in Safari's cache. If you do find it, the form could be filled out as when you closed the window or it could be blank as when it was last loaded into Safari - I don't know which because I haven't searched the cache with this puspose in mind before.

Then the (App) tabs from that window are lost unless you can restore an older copy of the sessionstore.js file (Time Machine?) that has that lost window.

Variables Window will not open

Anyone ever encountered this?
One of my collegues cannot open his Captivate 5 Variables window. When he tries, Captivate simply freezes. Same thing happens whether accessing from the Captivate menu or from within the Advanced Actions window.

opened CP 6, and opened the Variables window.

Mx.core.Window - prevent user from closing the window?

mx.core.Window has properties 'maximizable' &
'minimizable', but there doesn't seem to be any 'closable'
property. In my application I'm creating another window (apart from
the main application window) that needs to be open the whole time
the application is running. If I can't prevent the user from
closing the window, then I'll have to rig up some code to
automatically re-open it if the user closes it. I'm hoping there's
a way to prevent the user from closing the window in the first
place though.

SSIS Variable Window is Hidden

When designing SSIS package I can't seem to display "Variables" window. Right clicking on the design surface and choosing "Variables" has no effect. Also when I go to View -> Other Windows,
clicking on "Variables" - has no effect too. It must be some envinronmental settings, I guess.
Any Idea?

This is the solution I provided for someone else and it worked for them (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/47bdf8e8-004c-44bb-bd1f-ed05be76c6cf).
Select Import and Export Settings from the Tools menu.
Select the Reset all Settings option and click on next
Select the No option and click on next
Select Business Intelligence Studio and click on Finish
Now see if the variables windows displays when you select it in the SSIS menu.

Ipodservice.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows

I just bought a brand new Ipod and got the new iTunes 7 but whenever I plug in the iPod I get the "Ipodservice.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows" message and iTunes wont recognize the iPod. It seems to be recognized by windows. As soon as I restart the .exe it happens again (if the iPod is plugged in)

I keep getting the same error message saying iPodService.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes and reinstalled and restarted my computer but still no go. Anyone got any ideas? Show description by default in SSIS Variables window

Hello,
by clicking on "Grid Options" in the Variables window in SSIS it is possible to show the column "description".
After closing and reopening Visual Studio the column is gone and you have to add it again.
There seems to be no way of saving this setting, even in the newest version of SSIS designer in Visual Studio 2013.
Is there any way to save this?
