Cluster resource 'SQL Server' in Resource Group 'MSSQL' failed.

Hi All,
Last week we face problem on SQL server 2005 Cluster server.
SQL cluster was down with below issue.
Event 1069 : Cluster resource 'SQL Server' in Resource Group 'MSSQL' failed.
Event 19019 : [sqsrvres] CheckServiceAlive: Service is dead
[sqsrvres] OnlineThread: service stopped while waiting for QP.
[sqsrvres] OnlineThread: Error 1 bringing resource online
Kindly any one provide resolution for my above issue.

I have checked in event viewer Application error side error:
Event 19019 : [sqsrvres]
CheckServiceAlive: Service is dead
[sqsrvres] OnlineThread: service stopped while waiting for QP.
[sqsrvres] OnlineThread: Error 1 bringing resource online
System error :
Event 1069 : Cluster resource 'SQL Server' in Resource
Group 'MSSQL' failed.
Before this no error is there in event viewer

  • The cluster resource 'SQL Server' could not be brought online error while in completion stage of sql server 2012 failover installation

While installing sql server 2012 with failover clustering I got the following error:
The cluster resource 'SQL Server' could not be brought online. Error: There was a failure to call cluster code from a provider. Exception message: Generic failure. Status code: 5942. Description: The resource failed to come online due to the failure of one
    or more provider resources.
The two nodes of the sql server failover have been successfully prepared. The error came while running the advance cluster completion option.
In the clustered events in failover cluster manager the following message is displayed:
Cluster resource 'SQL Network Name (CPCTestSQLClus)' of type 'Network name' in clustered role 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' failed.
I have done various checking and the issue remained. I tried to start the sql

Please find below part of the content of the cluster log. I hope this is helpful in resolving the issue:

  • Is it possible to create a two node cluster with SQL server 2012 STD on node1 and SQL Server 2008 ENT on node2 on a Windows server 2012?

    Hi All,
Is it possible to create a two node cluster with SQL server 2012 STD on node1 and SQL Server 2008 ENT on node2 on a Windows server 2012?
    aa

I think you are confused with the way cluster is installed. Installing SQL on cluster is a two step process. On first node you create a new SQL cluster and on second node you need "AddNode" action.
Same edition media has to be used in above two operation.
you can install two separate instances with one enterprise and one standard.

  • SQL Server Browser service group does not exists. Check for earlier failures in the setup. during sql express 2008 R2 setup

    Hello,
I have an issue while installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. When I was installing SQL Server, I occurred an error message as shown in the figure.
I have followed couple of links as in
    this and
this links but it did not fix the issue. Can anyone help me on this issue?
    Regards
    Gaurav

    Hi gauravroondhe2306,
According to your description, you fail to install SQL Server 2008 R2 express with the error that SQL Server Browser service group does not exist. Please help to post SQL Server setup error log for analysis. By default, SQL Server setup summary and detail
    logs are located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
Based on my research, this issue could occur when you install SQL Server on a Domain Controller, or the machine's name has been changed and the browser service group is named with the original machine's name.
To troubleshoot the issue, you could follow the solutions below.
1.Use SQL Server 2008 R2 Best Practice Analyzer to detect if SQL Server is installed on a domain controller. If SQL Server is installed on a domain controller, please demote your machine from being a domain controller and install the SQL Server again since
it is not recommended to install SQL Server on a domain controller.
2.Check if the name of local user group matches the machine's current name. If it doesn't match, please change the name of the local user group accordingly, and install SQL Server again. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

  • SQL SERVER 2014 - Project consistency check failed. The following inconsistencies were detected: package.dtsx. has a different ProtectionLevel than the project.

I am getting the following error when I right click on a package in solution explorer and execute using SQL Server 2014:
Project consistency check failed. The following inconsistencies were detected: package.dtsx. has a different ProtectionLevel than the project.
Luckily my solution only has 10 packages.  I have verified and re-verified that everyone is set to dontsavesensitive.
I have verified and re-verified that the solution has the protection level to dontsavesensitive.
What on earth is going on here?  I am using windows authentication and have no need for the package to save any sensitive information, nor should there be any.
Can someone please help me out here?
    The Degenerate Dimension

    Hi MMiligan,
Just as the error message said, the exactly issue is that the package package.dtsx has a different ProtectionLevel property value than the project.
So please double check the value of project ProtectionLevel property, like DontSaveSensitive, then make sure all packages in the project use the same ProtectionLevel value.
If there is still an error message indicated that some packages use a different value, please right-click the indicated package to select View Code, then make sure there is a line like below(the DontSaveSensitive
protection level corresponds to the value of 0):
    DTS:ProtectionLevel="0"

  • SQL Server 2005 Resource Governor ?

Hello is there a way or method along the lines of Resource Governor within a SQL 2005 instance (am aware that that feature began starting with SQL 2008) ?  (One DB app is over-consuming resources slowing down other DBs residing on same SQL Server.)
Also what are the pros & cons & things to be aware of SQL 2008 & up in using Resource Governor ?  Heard that though it was a good new feature idea that it's not all that cracked up to be.
    Thanks in advance.

Your first question, the answer is - there is no stabile and reliable way.
Second is more in depth. Basically the pitfalls are that you're deciding what is best and over or under reserving could cause issues. Starting with 2014 you can also govern I/O which is not in 2008/R2/2012.

  • SQL Server 2014: Resource pool 'Pool_AdventureWorks2012'

Message after installing SQL Server 2014 in-memory  OLTP sample:
A binding has been created. Take database 'AdventureWorks2012' offline and then bring it back online to begin using resource pool 'Pool_AdventureWorks2012'.
    This is the definition:
    CREATE RESOURCE POOL [Pool_AdventureWorks2012] WITH(min_cpu_percent=0,
    max_cpu_percent=100,
    min_memory_percent=0,
    max_memory_percent=80,
    cap_cpu_percent=100,
    AFFINITY SCHEDULER = AUTO
    min_iops_per_volume=0,
    max_iops_per_volume=0)

    Hi Kalman Toth,
According to your description, after you binding the database to the resource pool for binding to take effect via the system function
sp_xtp_bind_db_resource_pool, You must take the database offline and back online. If your database was bound to an a different pool earlier, this removes the allocated memory from the previous resource pool and memory allocations for your memory-optimized
table and indexes will now come from the resource pool newly bound with the database. Please refer to the following Transact-SQL statement.
    USE master
    GO
ALTER DATABASE <your database name> SET OFFLINE
    GO
ALTER DATABASE <your database name> SET ONLINE
    GO
    USE <database name>
    GO
There are detail about binding a database with Memory-Optimized tables to a resource pool, you can review the following article.

  • SQL Server 2012 - RESOURCE MONITOR / PREEMPTIVE_XE_CALLBACKEXECUTE high CPU usage

    Hello,
We are currently in the process of migrating an existing clustered SQL Server 2008 R2 instance over to a clustered SQL Server 2012 instance as we phase out the Windows Server 2008 with SQL Server 2008 R2.
The setup is identical for the SQL Server 2012 instance as it is on the SQL Server 2008 R2 instance.  (meaning the RAM and CPU are both the same or better on the SQL Server 2012 instance)
The process in which we are migrating is that we're moving a few databases over to the new SQL Server 2012 instance each night.  What we've noticed is that the CPU usage is much higher on the SQL Server 2012 instance than on the previous
SQL Server 2008 R2 instance even though the there is only 1/2 of the databases migrated to the 2012 instance.
      Running the following script:
;with cte ([totalCPU]) as (select sum(cpu) from master.dbo.sysprocesses)
    select
    tblSysprocess.spid
    , tblSysprocess.cpu
    , CONVERT(BIGINT,(tblSysprocess.cpu * CONVERT(BIGINT,100))) / CONVERT(BIGINT, cte.totalCPU) as [percentileCPU]
    , tblSysprocess.physical_io
    , tblSysprocess.memusage
    , tblSysprocess.cmd
    , tblSysProcess.lastwaittype
    from master.dbo.sysprocesses tblSysprocess
    cross apply cte
    order by tblSysprocess.cpu desc
    Produces the following results:
In a clustered environment, is this normal and if not, does anyone know what this means or how to reduce the CPU usage?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
The following query may help us identify extended events or audit configurations running on that SQL Server server that are producing that high CPU usage scenario.
    SELECT
    s.name
    AS 'Sessions'
    FROM
    sys.server_event_sessions
    AS s
    WHERE
    s.name
    <> 'system_health'
    and s.name
    <> 'AlwaysOn_health';
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't access cluster via SQL Server Mng Studio unless node has ownership

    Hi:
We have Windows and SQL 2008 R2 in a 2 node cluster. Failover and failback work like a dream. All the 'lights' are green. But we can only access the cluster when we're on the node that has ownership. I've deleted all DNS entries and successfully recreated
them via ipconfig /registerDns from each node, shutting down, restarting the actual cluster and taking the application and service offline then back on line. All DNS records got recreated perfectly. Cluster error log doesn't show anything when we
can't connect either. We can also ping all IPs, Hostnames and Clustername.

    Hi g_machuca,
According to your description, you want to implement failover and failback in SQL Server cluster environment. We need to verify if The cluster group containing SQL Server can be configured for automatic failback to the primary node when it becomes available
again. By default, this is set to off. First you set a preferred owner for the SQL Server service in a clustered environment; To ensure the service or application automatically moves to the correct node, select “Allow Failback” under the Failover tab. .
Auto failback saves you from having to make this change manually; however it will restart the SQL Services when it automatically fails back. Or if you don’t want to configure auto failback you’ll want to make sure that you manually fail the services
back to the more powerful node after the system has come back online.
There are details about failover cluster allows automatic failback, you can review the following articles.

  • SQL Server Alwayson availability groups automation

    Hi all,
I had configured SQL Server always on availability groups on windows server 2012 and it was successful.
I’ve installed and successfully configured our SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn 2-node windows cluster servers. I've gotten AlwaysOn working great, and our
Front End servers for the Intranet will be using SharePoint 2013. The glitch is that SharePoint 2013 is configured to add databases automatically to our SQL Server 2012 back end, but NOT to AlwaysOn. As we know “we must manually find, select, back-up and then
add those new databases individually to get them into AlwaysOn."
But wait; that can be quite a task, constantly checking the SQL Server back-end servers to see what databases were created, then having to add them
    into AlwaysOn, 7/24!
Im looking for an automated script or process that will check for new databases, back those new databases up in FULL mode, (for being added to AlwaysOn, of course) then
add those databases to Always On, all automatically.
    Requirements:
Every time the newly created or added databases should be full backed up once in the shared location with automated script.
Newly created database should be added into always on group and should be added to available replica automatically with the TSQL script
    Regards,
    SQL LOVER.

    awaiting for responses.
    Kindly help the bewlo request.
Newly created database should be added into always on group and should be added to available
replica automatically with the TSQL script and perform restoration.
There is no out of the box solution for this. You may want to created a SQL Job (PowerShell) which can detect database which is newly created and perform steps to add new database to AG.
    1. take full backup.
    2. Take log backup.
    3. restore then on secondary.
    4. Add database to AG

  • SQL Server 2012 availability groups

Hi, I'm new to SQL 2012 and availability groups. We have it setup for SharePoint 2013 for an Intranet and all is well. I migrated some ASP.NET applications from SQL 2005 and created a new group for them. It all seemed fine and was sync'd up ok but lately
I'm having to manually resume the data movement via Management Studio. The databases seem to be in a paused state although the database is up as far as the applications are concerned.
Should I have completed some kind of database upgrade prior to moving over to 2012? Is there anything I can do or check? Is there a way of automating the resume data movement rather than me manually doing this?
    Thanks!

Suspending and resuming an AlwaysOn secondary database does not directly affect the availability of the primary database. However, suspending a secondary database can impact redundancy and failover capabilities for the primary database, until the suspended
secondary database is resumed. This is in contrast to database mirroring, where the mirroring state is suspended on both the mirror database and the principal database until mirroring is resumed. Suspending an AlwaysOn primary database suspends data movement
on all the corresponding secondary databases, and redundancy and failover capabilities cease for that database until the primary database is resumed.
You can obviously automate this: all you need to do is check if the status is suspended and then resume with the help of T-SQL command - how about writing a job which checks it every 5 min to 30 mins. depending upon your requirement and execute the T-SQL
    command to fix it.
    The Command would be:
ALTER DATABASE database_name SET HADR RESUME

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.
    For example:
    <configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
    And in Label it's shows:
    "Serialization operation on
    ServerGroup[@Name='DatabaseEngineServerGroup'] has failed.
Then I can Log-In into database, and do just half work.
I have installed: MS Framework 2.0, 3.5, 4.0. I am using MS Windows XP SP2.  It makes me crazy. Everything running okay but just this application have problems.

If you are using windows XP I have a solution,it worked for me :) :)
    Go to path:
    %windir%\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft_Corporation\somefolder\x.xx.xx.xx\user.conig
You will find either that file is corrupted or totally blank
paste the below content [please replace somefolder with your machine's folder name]

  • 2 Node Hyper-V failover cluster with sql server

I have 2 IBM Servers with Server 2012 installed and both machines have SQL server express. Is it possible to create HYPER-V Failover between the 2 servers including the SQL SERVER Instance meaning if the main node fails the second server will take over.
The second will act as virtualized failover of the main node with failover instace to act as active to active approach.
I hope can someone give me an advice with my question.

Sure you can do that. But it's a long story what's better SQL Server FCI or AlwaysOn. See:
    FCI Vs. AlwaysOn
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff929171.aspx
(biggest issue with AlwaysOn - it does require Enterprise license so is COSTY)
    Good idea to ask here:
SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-us/home?forum=sqldisasterrecovery
In any case you'll need either physical or virtual shared storage. For FCI to host everything and witness disk and for AlwaysOn just for witness (AlwaysOn does replication between DAS on it's own).
    Good luck :)
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.
