Clustering Admin Server(Weblogic) 10.1.3 with OBIEE

I was reading through this document - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e15722.pdf, and it says weblogic cannot be available active - active and there is no automatic fail over available, did anyone tried weblogic clustering? can you recommend any other documents/links for more info :)
Appreciate your help

The message "This Connection Pool can not be tested" means that the ManagedConnectionFactory class of adapter does not implement ValidatingManagedConnectionFactory therefore it is impossible to do test.
You may need to post to DBAdapter's forum to get the answer. This forum is about WebLogic Container itself.
Thanks

  • Howto Programatically discover clusters, admin server, managed servers

    Hi,
I'm want to programatically discover what clusters, admins servers, and managed servers exist in my domain.
I've tried using get MBeanHome, but in order to get that I must know the location of the admin server.
I'd like to be able to discover from within my program the host name and port of the admin server, and then from there to be able to discover the managed servers and clusters that are running and on what machines/ ports they are running on.
              Is this possible.
              Cheers,

Its possible, but there are no public APIs for directly doing this. I
guess you could try looking up the local server's MBean and navigating
to the admin server's MBean from there.
You could probably also deduce it from the system property
weblogic.management.host that you would have set to boot the managed
              server.

  • Clustering Admin server

              Hi,
              Here is my question!
I have a setup like this, 4 solaris unix machines, 1 Multi-Host Clustered Domain
for all 4 boxes. 1 Admin server & 16 Managed servers (4 managed servers on each
              solaris box)so 4X4 = 16. i.e.
              Machine A
              Admin
              server 1, server 2, server 3, server 4
              Machine B
              server 5, server 6, server 7, server 8
              Machine C
              server 9, server 10, server 11, server 12
              Machine D
              server 13, server 14, server 15, server 16.
Now All the 16 servers are in cluster. Everything is running and perfectly fine.
All load balancing, replication etc. are fine. Now for some reason, My Machine
A is down and not going to be up for a day. All the other running instances in
the boxes B,C & D are running and fine. Now I have to deploy an application to
that cluster and also to see the console for monitoring. Whatz the way??
Is this possible for a domain to have a backup Admin server. Any clustering for
Admin server and backup admin servers. ?????
              Please let me know
              thanks

              Hi,
I actually have a question..rather than an answer. It might be quite trivial.
What situation makes it necessary to have 4 managed servers on one machine. Does
it not put a lot more overheads on the machine.
              Thanks in Advance.

  • Change Port for OID 11.1.1.6 Admin server weblogic 10.3.6

    Hello,
Want to know if there is any documentation about how to change OID Weblogic Admin Server Port (7001) to different value (weblogic 10.3.6), ina way that OID , OVD , ODSM could continue to start.
    Regards

When I searched for String 7001 across Middleware folder, it was being used at more than 50-60 files like
    Middleware\wlserver_10.3\common\templates\scripts\wlst\replicatedDomain.py
    Middleware\wlserver_10.3\common\templates\scripts\wlst\basicWLSSDomain.py
and across 70 more such files... Both important and not so important files...
So, manually updating the port is probably quite time consuming...
However UNIX script may be used to update it in one go...

  • Conver weblogic Admin server to a windows service

I used the following scripts to conver weblogic Admin server to a windows service :
    SETLOCAL
    set DOMAIN_NAME=Sayesaman
    set USERDOMAIN_HOME=C:\jdev11.1.1.6\user_projects\domains\Sayesaman
    set SERVER_NAME=Sayesaman
    set WL_HOME=C:\jdev11.1.1.6\wlserver_10.3
    set WLS_USER=weblogic
    set WLS_PW=weblogic110
    set PRODUCTION_MODE=false
    set MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m –Xmx512m
    call "C:\jdev11.1.1.6\wlserver_10.3\server\bin\installSvc.cmd"
    ENDLOCAL
after running these scripts the windows service created successfully and running properly .
but the state of all web application is failed and even I can't deploy any web application and I get the following error :
    Class Not Found : oracle.dms.wls.DMSServletFilterr
Please help me to conver weblogic Admin server to a windows service correctly .
    Edited by: 950222 on Aug 1, 2012 2:46 AM

Request you to share the entire stack of error.
Meanwhile,I would recommend that you deleet the existing service created and re-create the service by following the below steps:-
    1. Create a text file
    %MIDDLEWARE_HOME%\user_projects\domains\servers\AdminServer\security\boot.properties
    Add the following lines
    username=weblogic
    password=
    Important to Note:
    a. If this step is not performed you will see the following generic error when the Admin Server is started in " background mode " via an MS Windows Service.
BEA-090403 Authentication for user weblogic denied
This error occurs because, by default, startup of Admin Server interactively prompts for the weblogic username and password. If the password is not supplied the error is thrown.
    b. As soon as you start the Admin Server the username and password values in this file will be encrypted. Be sure to stop / start the Admin Server as soon as possible to ensure the credentials are not exposed for longer than necessary.
    2. Create a command script called installAdmServer_Service.cmd which has lines like
    SETLOCAL
    set DOMAIN_NAME=ClassicDomain
    set USERDOMAIN_HOME=C:\middleware\FMW11g\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain
    set SERVER_NAME=AdminServer
    set PRODUCTION_MODE=true
    cd %USERDOMAIN_HOME%
    call %USERDOMAIN_HOME%\bin\setDomainEnv.cmd
    call "C:\middleware\FMW11g\wlserver_10.3\server\bin\installSvc.cmd"
    ENDLOCAL
    3. For troubleshooting / debugging purposes it is helpful to redirect standard out and error to a text file. Although most information is captured in the AdminServer server log files, you will not see all standard out and error when the server is started via a MS Windows Service (unlike when you start an AdminServer from the command prompt using startWebLogic.cmd). To redirect standard out to a text file, backup and edit installSvc.cmd and change the line at the bottom of the file so it include the -log parameter e.g
    "%WL_HOME%\server\bin\beasvc" -install
    -svcname:"%DOMAIN_NAME%_%SERVER_NAME%"
    -javahome:"%JAVA_HOME%" -execdir:"%USERDOMAIN_HOME%"
    -extrapath:"%WL_HOME%\server\bin" -password:"%WLS_PW%"
    -cmdline:%CMDLINE%
    -log:"C:\Middleware\FMW11g\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain\%SERVER_NAME%-stdout.txt"
    4. Now run "installAdmServer_Service.cmd". The Service should be installed, it will have a name like ""beasvc %DOMAIN_NAME%_%SERVER_NAME%" e.g
    beasvc ClassicDomain_AdminServer
The Service "Startup Type" will be 'Automatic'. Just like any other MS Windows Service you can change the 'Startup Type' to 'Manual'.
Start the Service. The Service will come back fairly quickly to say it is started. The actual time taken for AdminServer to start and reach a state of 'RUNNING' will be longer - perhaps two or three minutes. The state of the server can be monitored by reviewing the stdout txt file.
    Notes:
An alternative to the boot.properties approach to specifying the Admin Server weblogic username / password is to add the following environment variables to your wrapper cmd script - installAdmServer_Service.cmd
    set WLS_USER=weblogic
    set WLS_PW=manager11g
The beasvc utility encrypts the login credentials and stores them in the Windows registry.
This is one of two possible methods for avoiding the username/password prompt when a server instance starts. The disadvantage to this method is that changing the username or password for the server instance requires you to delete the Windows service and set up a new one with the new username and password. Instead of this method, you can use a boot identity file. With a boot identity file, you can change the login credentials without needing to modify the Windows service.
Create a MS Windows Service for a Managed Server e.g WLS_FORMS
    Important to Note:
    1. The ADMIN_URL value should reference the AdminServer hostname and listen port.
    2. The SERVER_NAME value is case sensitive. For example, if you are creating a MS Windows service for a different managed server such as 'wls_ods1' then the value needs to match the case of the server name otherwise the startup of the server via the MS Windows service will fail.
    3. Be careful that there are no trailing spaces after each line in the command file - trailing spaces will cause the managed server to fail at startup. For example a trailing space in the ADMIN_URL value will result in the error
<Error> <EmbeddedLDAP> <BEA-171524> <Cannot determine the Listen address for the Admin server
    3. Now run "installAdmServer_Service.cmd". The Service should be installed, it will have a name like ""beasvc %DOMAIN_NAME%_%SERVER_NAME%" e.g
    beasvc ClassicDomain_AdmServer
The Service "Startup Type" will be 'Automatic'. Just like any other MS Windows Service you can change the 'Startup Type' to 'Manual'.
Start the Service. The Service will come back fairly quickly to say it is started. The actual time taken for the managed server to start and reach a state of 'RUNNING' will be longer - perhaps two or three minutes. The state of the server can be monitored by reviewing the stdout txt file.
    Hope this helps!

  • Node manager or the Admin server - which one to start first?

    Hi Experts,
Somewhere i see its this way.
    OBIEE 11.1.1.6 | OBIEE
To start the Oracle Business Intelligence system, you start:
the Node Manager(It is by default windows service in Enterprise Installation of OBIEE 11G)
the Administration Server (It is weblogic Admin Server)
the Managed Servers(Comes with Enterprise Installation of OBIEE 11G)
and then you start the system components.(All OBIEE Components : BI Server,Presentation Server,Schedular,Java Host,Cluster Services.
and at other places i see this...
OBIEE 11G - Starting Oracle Business Intelligence | GerardNico.com (BI, OBIEE, OWB, DataWarehouse)
To start the Oracle Business Intelligence system, you start:
    the Administration Server
    the Node Manager
    the Managed Servers,
and then you start the system components.
I have Linux environment and it has just single BI Server and i go like this.
    1) startWeblogic.sh script
    2) startNodeManager.sh
    3) startManagedWeblogic.sh
    4) then system components.
    Thanks
    Ashish

so the way i am starting OBIEE Services currently is basically wrong ie..
    1) startWeblogic.sh script
    2) startNodeManager.sh
    3) startManagedWeblogic.sh
    4) then system components.
( by the way everything  comes up perfect even if i start the nodemanager after the startWeblogic.sh script)
and i should do it this way..
    1)startNodeManager.sh
    2)startWeblogic.sh script
    3)startManagedWeblogic.sh
    4) then system components.
    Kindly confirm...

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. There was some problem with the input parameters to the automated activity. That error is resolved now.
I try to view the output of the automated activity, i.e, response of the web service call. I do an output mapping from the automated activity to a data object. But once I start the process and the automated activity executes, I could not see the output data in the context data in 'Operation Management --> Manage Processes'. The data object doesn't have any value.
The default trace doesn't have any error. I doubt if the web service is called at all!
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

  • Implement LDAP with OBIEE?

I'm developing an externally-accessible, somewhat-customized, site based on the OBIEE Dashboard product, running on Apache on a Linux server. To date, I've been creating user accounts within the Adminstration tool and assigning them passwords. This is cumbersome for me to maintain, however, plus it doesn't allow users to define their own passwords. Although there is an Active Directory infrastructure in-house, the users of my product are not employees; they're customers--therefore, I'd like to set up my own directory to manage users and passwords.
Can anyone suggest how I should proceed? I'm not averse to setting up an LDAP server (perhaps Open LDAP) but I'm not sure how to integrate it with my dashboard site. Or is there another, low-cost, solution?

Apache means a lot of things, generally speaking it's the software foundation behind many open source projects. If you say you are using Apache most people will think you are using Apache HTTP server which is not compatible with OBIEE as it needs a J2EE Web App server. Most likely you are using Apache Tomcat or simply Tomcat as the Apache preffix adds confussion.
Now to your question. I wouldn't suggest to use LDAP, too much overhead for what you want. You should be OK with External Table Authentication:
    http://108obiee.blogspot.com/2009/03/external-table-authentication-and-row.html
although you will still need to develop a front-end yourserlf to Admin these data. Oracle APEX could do the trick very quickly:

  • ORACLE WEBLogic 12C Clustering of Admin Server ?

    Hi ,
I have setup WebLogic Server 12c on solaris 10 u11, as cluster.
For cluster of managed servers, it works fine.
My Question is, can we run Admin Server from two nodes of cluster?
example:  Node 1, created Admin Server, Cluster (F-End1/F-End2) Managed Servers
    F-End1 on node1, and F-End2 on node2.
Now for some reason, Node1 has some hardware problem, can i run Admin Server from Node2 ?
I have followed the setup from this website<>
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/weblogic-11g-clustered-domains.php
    Followed Same, Pack/Unpack, Enroll.
Now from Node 1, i can run, Node Manager, ./startweblogic.sh   and it takes me to the Admin Server.
from there i can manage every thing.
Question is, can i run Admin Server form Node2? if yes, how?

    Node1: 10.0.1.179     Admin Server :7001      F-End-1  7003  B-End1   7020
    Node2: 10.0.1.177                                       F-End-2   7003  B-End2   7020
when i try to run the Admin Server from the Node2, i get error (By 1st running the Node Manager)

  • Administrator Login & Issue with Weblogic Admin Server Console

I recently applied a PeopleTools patch to a test environment. I will be doing this to production soon, and as I was going through my screenshots of what I did in test, I ran across an area that may cause me an issue when I apply it to production.
There is a screen which prompts you for the administrator login and password for the weblogic domain. I wasn't sure of this when I did it in test, but in the PeopleTools install doc, it said the default is system/Passw0rd
This worked fine in test. However, the person who set this up in production may have used a different password. I don't want to get halfway through the patch and have to abort because I don't know the password.
I did some research and read there was a file with this info. I think it was boot.properties, but it was encrypted.
I then started the Weblogic Admin Server Console in test and was able to login with system/Passsw0rd so that verified a way of confirming the password in test.
I tried to do the same in production, but the Weblogic Admin Server Console page does not come up. The webserver is running, and if it wasn't, my phone would be ringing. Why does the console not come up?
However, the screen that comes up during the patch that prompts you for this asks you to enter your password, and re-enter it on the next line, so maybe its setting the password, not verifying that you know it. Is this true, I could make it whatever I want?
The WebLogicAdmin_weblogic.log file has not been updated in months. This may have been when we did the last upgrade.
Can you tell me how to determine/verify this password?
    Thanks,
    Roger

I'm not sure if there's an easy way to verify this. If I'm not mistaken you'll have batch file called startweblogicadmin.bat in the bin directory. You have to start this to get the administrator console running. It will be running on port :9999 by default if you haven't changed this.

  • Creating Weblogic domain with Admin Server and managed servers on different

I am trying to create Weblogic domain where Admin Server and managed servers on different machines. However I am unable to find any steps which would allow me to do so. The config.sh script always creates an Admin Server. Please help.

Whilst the method that Lawrence gives can result in a domain that is perfectly functional, it is a method that can result in errors as you are having to enter the same information twice. Also you will create two admin servers, as the second domain creation will have the console added to it on the renamed admin server and this will give issues.
The best method to create a domain spamming multiple physical machines, is to create the domain with all the components on the first machine. This means planning the domain and making sure all components are added once; so having the information about the domain written out is wise. Ensure that the WLS software is installed in the same path on each machine before starting.
Then copy the domain that you have created from one machine to the other, keeping the same paths. You can simply copy (I've used this method multiple times without issue) but the supported way would be to use the WLST PACK and UNPACK methods. These create and extract domains from templates. Some more information on these is given here -> http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13179_01/common/docs100/pack/intro.html#wp1069056

  • Weblogic Admin Server Clustering

I am pretty new to WLS and was going through the doc on Clustering. It talks abt clustering managed servers.
Is there a way to cluster WL Admin Server, for eg : I fee I will not be able to access admin console if admin server is down.
so do we need to cluster Admin server also.
    thanks

Only one admin server is possible within a particular domain.
The managed servers will continue to operate normally without the presence of the admin server process, presuming that that the machine(s) hosting the managed servers are still alive.
Run your admin server on a physically separate host than you use for your managed servers. In addition to not impacting your managed servers in the case of an admin server outage, this also makes it easier to control access to your admin server since you can restrict access to the entire host more closely than on the managed servers' hosts.

Is anyone had faced this issue.....

    Hi,
I had tried by putting the username and password in boot.properties but we are getting the same issue.
we tried by editing the config.xml file of the domain.
    i.e. by
    Before:      <credential-encrypted>{AES}b3I7UhWtRyj4DuKMIDVtW4Ln2nzH+HiYRhhQw1H2qpU0qJMOaDlK8iFZ+LvlJu+iZs6pptFJgWz8ryyudL1Zyvf00Rg11z9Iib7hoDC8covMFuig8wx7iOGK88zeKH7U</credential-encrypted>
    After: <credential-encrypted>MyCredentialInPlainText</credential-encrypted>
and restarted the admin server but shows the same error.
    kindly suggest us...
