Code Editor, Invisible Cursor

I'm using JDeveloper9i (902) and the code editor cursor keeps disappearing. It's still there, you can edit code, you just can't see it. If you close the editor window and open it again the cursor is displayed. Is this a known bug? Is it fixed in 903?

It turns out that this is a Swing bug - see Sun bugs #4519058 and 4672816. When you minimize a Java app, it receives a focusLost( temporary ) event. The bug is that when you restore the Java app, it does not receive a focusGained() event. This occurs in JDK 1.3.1_01 through JDK 1.3.1_03, and does not reproduce in JDK 1.4. From the bug text, it seems that Sun does not intend to fix this in JDK 1.3 unless it is escalated.
This reproduces when you minimize a Java app using the task bar, or the minimize icon in the app's title bar. Incidentally, you can see the bug with JDeveloper's system navigator also - the system navigator uses a darken selection color in the tree when it has focus, and a lighter selection color when it does not have focus. When you follow the reproduce steps you indicated with the navigator, the navigator stays with the lighter selection color when JDeveloper is restored.
As I mentioned, currently JDeveloper itself runs under JDK 1.3.1 - we are trying to move to running under JDK 1.4 in the 9.0.4 timeframe, but are working through some painting irregularities currently. I've filed Oracle bug #2562479 with the information from this thread for tracking purposes. I'm still looking into a workaround for this, but I'm not sure at this point whether it is possible without a lot of overhead.

Is there a way to restrict the cursor at the end of a line in the source code editor??

In the source code editor, the cursor will always follow where I click. But I wanna restrict it at the end of a line, just like other text editors do. Is there a option or sth? I can't put up with it any longer.

The source editor in the LabWindows/CVI environment is constructed under the concept of virtual space.
At the moment, in the current version of LabWindows/CVI, this is the default behavior, which cannot be changed from the editor preferences dialogs.

File not visible in Layout Editor, but okay in Source Code Editor & Preview

I just finished editing this page, and uploaded. It is visible on www, but when I go to edit it in Layout Editor, the cursor is blinking on a white background. Nothing appears to be there. However if I change to Source Code Editor or Preview, all my data is there. Here is the link to it - www.engraversnetwork.com/uls_lasers.html.

Wow! I figured it out. I was cleaning up my meta tags and left the ">" bracket off of the end of the line. Maybe that will help someone later on

Using TLF as basis for code editor?

I want to develop a editor, which can be used as code editor(not fullscreen, embedded in HTML view) - that means it shall support syntax highlighting, code completion (simulated with other Flex controls) during the maintenance of the code(tokens), you name it. It would also be important to have the possibilty to add (invisible) metadata (like IDs) to the tokens, since there shall be an automatic mapping (user enters tokens and on the fly they are mapped to internal IDs).
Performance, accessiblity and other related issues (RightToLeft) are also quite important. Undo/Redo of course also .
Do you think TLF would be of help here or was it designed for another purpose? Another alternative would be the use of the TextArea control (supports HTML).

I've forgotten to describe one further requirement. For some usecases, the user shall only enter coding/tokens in a template.
Example:
IF <userInput>
THEN <userInput>
ELSE <userinput>
So, the user shall not be able to delete the template structure (IF clause in this example, "ReadOnly Area").
I guess also you get low level events (for example, the user hovers the mouse over a token, so that you can provide a tooltip, etc.)?
There is the need for prototyping, no question. But from your gutfeeling, would you prefer TLF instead of using the standard TextArea control to implement such a code editor?
I know the TextArea control a little...I think its strength are the (memory) footprint, using of full(?) HTML...but I think using this control results not in a clean architecture because there would be the need to rely hevily on html/javascript (eg. using <A> tag to mask ID ) etc.
In contradiction, TLF can directly interpret XML if I've understood the concept correctly.

Code Editor - Navigation through Ctrl + , Ctrl +

Open Code Editor or SQL Worksheet and paste the following example line:
"piRBDKBTabKnt piRBDKBTabKnt piRBDKBTabKnt"
In SQL Developer version 3.2.2 when I'm moving cursor in the line by pressing Ctrl+ > (right arrow) or Ctrl + < (left arrow) then cursor jumps over entire words - and that is OK.
(Pressing Ctrl + > three times is enough to move from the beginning of the example line to the end)
But in latest SQLDeveloper version 4 this works different - cursor does not jump over entire words.
Is there any option to change this behaviour?

My SQLDeveloper version is 4.0.0.13, OS: Windows XP.
Keyboard shortcuts are set properly.
In the example below I've used "|" character to show where cursor jumps after pressing Ctrl+ >.

Problem scrolling right in code editor...

Hi,
I have a package body in the code editor and I have problems scrolling all the way to the right on some lines that exceeds a certain number of characters. The cursor continues moving to the right (as the number in the status bar keeps increasing) but the window doesn't scroll. I tried modifying the right margin size to 200 in the preferences but no change was observed. If I select all and copy, I am missing thoses caracters that don't show in the window. This is rather inconvenient...Is there another option to modify???

I created a freeze frame still from the current video I am editing
If you used the | Shift n | command to make the freeze frame, it isn't recognized as a still image in any program other then FCP. To make an actual still image file that will be recognized and usable in other programs, you have to export as a still image. Set the Timeline playhead on the frame you want, then go to File->Export->Using QuickTime Conversion. In the FORMAT menu, choose "Still Image" and in the OPTIONS menu, choose the file type (JPG, TIFF, PNG, etc). Import the resulting image file into your project and the "Open in External Editor" command will work.

Code editor: need spaces instead of tab characters for indentation

I need to have spaces inserted into my code for indentation instead of tabs. "Use tab character" is unchecked under tools|preferences|code editor|code style|edit but to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks, M C

But would this cause a tab to be translated as one space or would it still be a tab character? I think it will still be a tab character, which is a problem. I know MS Dev Studio can be set to translate tabs to spaces on the fly so if you hit a tab the cursor jumps 4 spaces and those spaces are spaces, not a tab. Thanks for the reply.

Statechart code editor is giving me the finger (LabVIEW 2012, Win 7 32-bit)

Is anyone else seeing this? In my statechart code editor (for actions, reactions and guards), the Position/Size/Select cursor and the Connect Wire cursor have both been replaced with the Operate Value cursor (a.k.a. the Finger cursor). It makes it hard to tell what LabVIEW will do when I click my mouse, and it looks weird to place wires with a finger.
Also, the little blue "resize squares" sometimes don't show up, when I hover over an Input/State node

How to add a font for use by the code editor

Version 3.0.04 windows
found Preferences -> Code Editor -> Fonts
Did not see the font I would like to use in the list. The font is terminal. The font can be displayed in Control Panel -> fonts in windows.
In the help I found Edit Font Location but could not find the dialog box described in the help
Is there a procedure to add the font so SQL Dev can use it?

How to change background color in code editor?

Hi. Some of the pre-selectable Schemes under Tools->Preferences->Code Editor->PL/SQL Syntax Color (e. g. Ocean) have a "global" default background color that applies to all styles. How can I edit this color for my own color scheme?

if you try to change all the plsql keywords to the same background color (that is not either white or black or blue) via the options panel in SQL Developer (Code Editor > PLSQL syntax colors), you will get the new background color in the worksheet only for the areas with plsql text, while the areas without any text will have the same background color as the base color scheme you started with. This means that there is no way to change the "general background" color via the options panel, but you have to use the same background color of one of the predefined color schemes.
This seems to me a bug, but probably it's not considered high priority, so it will not be fixed for the time being.
I would like to stress the fact that being able to change the color scheme of the development environment that you use every day about 8 hours a day can make quite a difference on your eyes at the end of the day.

EA1 - Right gutter scroll bar in the Code Editor doesn't work?

SQL Developer version 4.0.0.12, Windows XP
I'm opening package body in Code Editor. In previous version of SQL Dev after pressing CTRL and moving mouse over the right gutter I could see a few lines of the code from mouse pointed position in the source.
Now it doesn't work.

It is true the right gutter's general scrolling window view capability no longer exists in 4.0. However, if code errors exist, then small blue squares (uncompiled code) or slightly larger red rectangles (compiled code) appear in the gutter representing the relative positions of the bad code. Hovering the mouse over those produces a pop-up display of the offending code and, in fact, the pop-up will not display if the Ctrl key is pressed at the same time. Of course, clicking on the rectangles or squares moves the editor's current line to that code as in earlier releases.
So it is not clear whether this is merely the new, intended behavior, or if more of the prior behavior remains to be implemented in 4.0. As far as I can tell, nothing important has been lost here, but that is just my opinion.

BUG: EA 2.1 code editor: completion insight doesn't work in opened files

I just migrated from SQLDEV 1.5.5 to EA 2.1. It's nice that I colud find so many of my suggestions implemented in this new version. THANKX :-)

When I'm working in SQL Worksheet the "completion insight" feature is working well, but when I try to use it in an opened file, it doesn't work.
Is there a special preference to turn on for use with files?

Correct it did work in 1.5. on .sql files, when connected, so I have updated the ER to bug. We also need to expand this to support PL/SQL files.

Preferences: Code Editor: Printing: Add File Path and Date to Print Header?

Is there a way to add file full path and date to the print file header for a SQL Worksheet when printing from the Code Editor? So, for example, if my SQL worksheet is called MySQL.sql and is saved to C:\Myfiles\SQL_Code\, I'd like to print the full path 'C:\Myfiles\SQL_Code\MySQL.sql' and today's date as part of the print header along with the page numbers at the top of the code. I see a Java preview in the Preferences: Code Editor: Printing window that mentions a "Today" date but I don't know Java and that is an uneditable preview. I have checked the "Print File Header" check box. Is the file header definition stored somewhere in a configuration file and/or is there a way to modify/customize the default file header?
I am a new user to SQL Nav. version 3.2.20.09 Build-MAIN 09.87. I could do this in SQL Navigator but can't figure it out in SQLDeveloper. Thank you.

First of all,
Unless otherwise you selected some option like page break after/before - both body and header/footer will print on same page in report, so in pdf as well.
If you have difference on report and PDF that you should look into your setup.
If you want more help, please be particular on your issue

Help selecting non-continuous text in code editor, please?

I'm editing a list... I want to make a lot of selections at once and edit them at the same time. You know how you can go through files in windows and ctrl+click/select files to move around? I could do this in Notepad++ so I guess I could switch back and forth but that would be a big pain. Any ideas?

Depending on what the edit is, you could use the Find & Replace (CRTL+F) to just click your way through the list items. If the list is all different items, you'll probably have to do it in a word processor. I don't know any way to do it in the code editor.
