Code Editor ( Source ) settings

Hi ,
I have Jdeveloper with version 11.1.1.5.0 . The source tab in my code editor displays extra syllables like ,....<< etc which i'm unable to delete. But the code which is done compiles properly though all these extra syllables are present . Can someone suggest options which i might have enabled/disabled wrongly which led to this issue? Thanks in advance.

I guess you are talking about code folding feature which allows you to fold some parts of the code which are not 'that' interesting at the moment. In the left margin you see a '+' sign which when you click on it shown the 'folded' code.
You can disable this in the menu 'tools->preferences->Code Editor->Display'. Here you uncheck the 'Show Code Folding Margin' and you always see all code.

  • File not visible in Layout Editor, but okay in Source Code Editor & Preview

I just finished editing this page, and uploaded. It is visible on www, but when I go to edit it in Layout Editor, the cursor is blinking on a white background. Nothing appears to be there. However if I change to Source Code Editor or Preview, all my data is there. Here is the link to it - www.engraversnetwork.com/uls_lasers.html.

Wow! I figured it out. I was cleaning up my meta tags and left the ">" bracket off of the end of the line. Maybe that will help someone later on

  • Is there a way to restrict the cursor at the end of a line in the source code editor??

In the source code editor, the cursor will always follow where I click. But I wanna restrict it at the end of a line, just like other text editors do. Is there a option or sth? I can't put up with it any longer.

    Hello morphe!
The source editor in the LabWindows/CVI environment is constructed under the concept of virtual space.
At the moment, in the current version of LabWindows/CVI, this is the default behavior, which cannot be changed from the editor preferences dialogs.

  • Source Code Editor Framework for Flex

    Dear Flex Forum members:
As a Flex newbie a quite important question in relation to the "Flex frameworks world" still remains to me, even after some google search sessions:
Does there exist any (preferably free) Flex framework or Flex component covering the functionality of a source code editor with syntax highlighting and syntax checking? -- Anything comparable to the Editor Framework within the Eclipse RCP (Rich Client Platform) or even to the Eclipse GEF (Graphical Editor Framework)?
The background is as follows (and as described in more detail in my first post to this forum):
An Online Shop Management Component shall offer the ShopManager to specify the products and offers in some declarative way and after a pre-defined grammar in place. The application frontend must be realized in Flex, and that's the reason why I'm now searching for:
some kind of textual or graphical editor framework for realizing the Shop Manager's editor which shall support him/her in creating shop specifications/configurations in a grammar-conforming way through syntax color highlighting and syntax checking (error feedback), and
this editor framework being intended for Flex (i.e., being a flex framework)
In some way, much of the editing/modeling functionality is identical to the one offered by Flex Builder (Eclipse application), but in my case this functionality must be exposed as web application (Flex component running on the browser).
Aps., would it also be possible to realize the Shop Management Component as AIR app, distribute it through a web page and run it locally on the Shop Managers client desktop???
Which products/frameworks do you know for accomplishing this task?
Thank you very much for any help.
    Best regards
    Alessandro

Since people complain about Flex's basic rich text editor (which is a basic building block of the kind of framework you're discussing), I doub't you'll find what you need out of the box anywhere...

  • Preferred Source Code Editor Bracket Styles

The CVI Team would like to get an idea what the most commonly used source code editor bracket styles are. These options are currently available through Options >> Editor Preferences >> Bracket Styles. Please post your comments in the Preferred Source Code Editor Bracket Styles NI Community document.

LOL! Good point. Ironic that I said that, considering how much I disliked Eclipse when I first used it.

  • The best source code editor?

    Hi,
I have just started up with Java and I am looking for a source code editor like emacs but for Windows.
Tried out NotePad++ but I think it just did not cut it.
Something a little more sophisticated, but not a large IDE...
    Any thoughts?
    /Martin

"like emacs" and "not a large IDE"? you're confusing me ...
On a more serious note: Isn't there a Windows version of Emacs? I know there is one for vim. I use EmEditor on windows, but I do use Eclipse mainly, so it's really just for very basic text-file edits.

  • EA1 - Right gutter scroll bar in the Code Editor doesn't work?

SQL Developer version 4.0.0.12, Windows XP
I'm opening package body in Code Editor. In previous version of SQL Dev after pressing CTRL and moving mouse over the right gutter I could see a few lines of the code from mouse pointed position in the source.
    Now it doesn't work.
Link below - section "Working in the Procedure Editor":
    http://www.thatjeffsmith.com/archive/2012/01/viewing-plsql-compilation-errors-in-oracle-sql-developer/

    Hi,
It is true the right gutter's general scrolling window view capability no longer exists in 4.0.  However, if code errors exist, then small blue squares (uncompiled code) or slightly larger red rectangles (compiled code) appear in the gutter representing the relative positions of the bad code.  Hovering the mouse over those produces a pop-up display of the offending code and, in fact, the pop-up will not display if the Ctrl key is pressed at the same time. Of course, clicking on the rectangles or squares moves the editor's current line to that code as in earlier releases.
So it is not clear whether this is merely the new, intended behavior, or if more of the prior behavior remains to be implemented in 4.0.  As far as I can tell, nothing important has been lost here, but that is just my opinion.

  • SQL Developer 3.0.03  Code Editor Save Actions missing from menu

I had just gotten a new notebook and installed latest version of Oracle SQL Developer 3.0.03. Seems Auto Save settings are enabled by default. I am prompted each time I switch off from SQL Dev to another app or window to Save the SQL code I am testing. I don't want to necessarily save it each time so I have to save or cancel each time I switch windows. I checked the documentation Help menu and it directed me to the Code Editor section > Save Actions menu to adjust settings. This category does not exist (or is not visible for me) to check settings and make changes. I am Admin on machine and installer of the app so not sure if it is some security setting I am not aware of. Or is this the wrong Help documentation for this version?
This version is much different from older version I was using. Any thougts on this before I remove and re-install an older version?
    Thanks,
    Joe

many thanks for your reply jim. i see the settings for 'prompt for save file on close'. this is checked by default and that is fine. if i have a sql worksheet open, as soon as i switch to another window (i.e. visual studio app), i get prompted to save the file. that is the strange behavior i've been seeing with this version.
i will try to update to 3.0.04 and see if that resolves. i appreciate your help.

  • Ugly fonts in code editor

I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0 with Win 7 or Win 8 and the font I choose (Consolas 12) does not display well in the code editor. The text in sample text looks good, but in the editor it's not the same. You can't distinguish the m in bold. See screenshot with anti-aliasing enabled. With and without the anti-aliasing, it's the same.
    See https://www.dropbox.com/s/g6f0pma9z92nh4r/jdev.png

I choose Consolas because it's the one I used to use in Eclipse, and it's a good programming font. I also try to use Inconsolata or Source Code Pro. The first one is installed on my Windows but does not show up in the list, and the other one displays all characters as crossed square.
I also noticed that the sample text display looks good for all fonts but in the code editor, the rendering is different. Is it just me or my eye?
What monospaced (fixed-width) font do you advise?
    Thanks

  • Basic code editor tools missing? Extensions?

Is there really no batch search-and-replace, GREP replacement, or HTML element autocompletion? Assumed this 'new' tool could perform at least at a level the code editor DW CS3 (or earlier?) could... love the idea of the in-place related file editor but without these basic features I'm back to BBEdit for now.
Also: thought maybe adding extensions would expand functionality, but there dont seem to be any??? Is there a resource somewhere, as the Code forum returns 0 results as does Google.

    Hi Aaron,
Well, there's a reason we call it a "preview release" rather than "1.0" :-)  There are plenty of features that aren't thre or aren't fully polished yet... but actually many of the things you mentioned are available already:
"GREP replacement" -- I assume you mean search-replace using a regexp?  If you open the Replace bar you can use regexps (note the label next to the input field describing the "/.../" syntax).
HTML element code hinting -- You should get code hints for tag names and attribute names.  If you're not seeing that, can you share your HTML file so we can investigate?
There's also CSS code hinting in the latest Edge Code, fwiw.  And there will be JS code hinting in the bext release.
Extensions are listed on the main open source project page, here: https://github.com/adobe/brackets/wiki/Brackets-Extensions.  We're working on building a more polished extension browse/install experience, however.
The one thing on your list that's missing is search-replace across multiple files at once.  You can track our progress on that or upvote the user story here, in our Trello backlog.
    Hope that helps,
    - Peter

  • Enhancement Suggestion - Jdeveloper Code Editor

    Hello,
I would like to make an enhancements suggestion for the JDeveloper code editor. I find the "history" tab of the source editor extremely useful when I'm trying new things and not sure if they would work. This tab helps me revert changes to a last known version. However, I see myself having to identify the previous correct version by date and time, which is kind of dicey. I do see there is also a description column, however, I'm not able to edit the description with a meaningful message that would help identify as last know good version quickly. Hence, my suggestion is that the history tab of the code editor allow the user to add tags / comments against each version for quick identification.
Hope the Oracle development is listening, and you'll have to excuse me for posting if this forum is the wrong place to make suggestion ( i didn't quite find any feedback feature on the Jdeveloper product page).
    regards,
    Rehan Yusuf

    No problem Timo.
I don't think it's worth opening an SR for this. It looks like sub-pixel anti-aliasing isn't supported in the JDeveloper Code Editor, which is a shame, because that's the place where it's most needed.
    Michael.

  • Problems with cut and paste within the code editor in JDeveloper 10.1.3 EA

Copy and pasting doesn't work as expected. If I copy some code and paste it somewhere else, i get completely different code, (it seems to paste a piece of code from somewhere else in the source).
I tried expanding + signs, this didn't help.
I'am running JDeveloper on Windows XP Professional.
Does anybody else have the same problem.
    Is this a bug?

We've tracked down this issue thanks to Tullio's supplying us with a reproducible testcase. It's related to the "Automatically Copy Paste Imports" preference (which is on by default) in the Tools->Preferences->Code Editor category of IDE preferences. It seems to also be related to having renamed a source path directory to have a name that is only different by case from the name it originally had. Disabling this preference is a workaround for EA1.
For example, if you started out by creating your workspace with a source directory named "Src", then later renamed it to "src", this seems related to the situation when this issue can occur. Renaming the directory back to match what it was before is another workaround for EA1.

  • Inconsistency in the context menu of Code Editor tabs

    Hi,
This is something I ran in to a couple of times since I migrated to jdev 9.0.4.12.80, therefore I felt the need to post it here.
Whenever I right-click on a code editor tab to close a source file, which is NOT the currently active file, the corresponding file is closed as expected. The same holds for most options. But when I select 'Run in sql*plus' (in case of a SQL file) or 'Source Control', jdev will use the currently active source file instead of the file corresponding to the tab that I clicked on. It is quite confusing when another file is processed than the file which tab I selected.
I hope this is clear enough and that it can/will be fixed in future releases.
    Regards,
    Patrick.

    Hi Patrick,
This sounds like a weirdness (read: bug) in the document bar in 9.0.3 and 9.0.4. It seems that when support for these menu items was added to the document bar, whoever implemented it forgot to pass the correct context to commands when they're invoked from the docbar. So the commands behave just as they would if you invoke them from a main menu - i.e. the file they process is based on the currently focussed dockable.
In 10g 9.0.5, the document bar is no more, so this bug is sort of fixed.
    Thanks,
    Brian
