code tag

Does the tlf support the
tag?
If not, what would you recommend doing to make that happen?
Thanks,
Lance

TLF does not support a
tag. I'd suggest setting the font to mono-spaced font such as Courier, and setting the lineBreak attribute on the TextFlow to "explicit".

• Did the code tag implementation change?

Over in the UIX forum, we have been relying on the ability to embed XML content inside of a "code" tag - and for as long as I can remember this would automatically escape HTML/XML start/end tags so that they would be displayed in the message content. For example, users have been posting uiXML samples like this:
(Note, in this sample I have added a trailing whitespace in the opening code tag so that the forum software will display the tag instead of interpret it. Also, I have explicitly escaped < and > myself so that they will be displayed.)
[code ]
<messageTextInput id="whatever"
name="neededName"
prompt="Prompt 2">
<boundMessage select="error2"/>
</messageTextInput>
Previously, the code tag would automatically handle escaping the open/close tag characters (< and >) to the appropriate character entities (< and >). This no longer seems to be happening. The end result is that embedded XML code is sent back to the browser unescaped, and ends up being interpreted by the browser as HTML - which generally makes such content unreadable. Here is what the above sample looks like now:
[code ]
<messageTextInput id="whatever"
name="neededName"
prompt="Prompt 2">
<boundMessage select="error2"/>
</messageTextInput>
This change in behavior has two really bad consequences:
1. This is making it very difficult to post uiXML samples, which means that users are having a hard time posting test cases, and the UIX team is having a hard time posting sample solutions.
2. We have a large number of code samples that have been posted to the forum over the last year or so. All of these samples are now unreadable.
Was there a change in behavior in how the code tag handles HTML/XML escaping? Can we get the old behavior back?
Andy

I really didn't mean to have smiley faces in my post - another interesting feature! What I meant to say was:
"Previously, the code tag would automatically handle escaping the open/close tag characters, < and > , to the appropriate character entities: < and >."
And actually, I forgot to take the whitespace out of my sample code tag - let me try posting the sample code one more time, this time inside of an actual code tag:
<messageTextInput id="whatever"
name="neededName"
prompt="Prompt 2">
<boundMessage select="error2"/>
</messageTextInput>Andy

• Code tags

This is my first forum.
How do you use the 'code tags' on this site?
Should i click the code button then paste my code? Should I paste my code in between "like right here"?

That's it! Well done.
But don't start new threads for everything, you should have replied to your other thread.

• Can we have Quote and Code tags?

I think a lot of people miss knowing there are "code" tags because the option is not visually represented. How about a button for it at the top of the editor next to the link and spell check icon? More people knowing about that option and using it would make the posts MUCH more legible and people more likely to get helped.
Having quote tags like other forums would be extremely useful too.
Thanks

I would love proper code highlighting support for PL/SQL and SQL source code. The current SQL highlighter only does uppercase reserved words (silly standard) and is also useless for PL/SQL code.
Also, a problem with syntax highlighting is expecting a string quote to end on the same line that it started. This is not always the case, especially when defining a string value that is used as a code template, and includes line feeds (e.g. defining a string literal for a SOAP envelope).
And if old vim can support it correctly, why not fresh new forum software? ;-)

• Please Use Code Tags

There was a time in these forums where posters were flamed mercilessly for not using code tags. Now it seems that OP's almost NEVER use them. It makes me nuts. I wonder though why the flaming has stopped.
1) Is everyone too flamed out thanks to AU_UK?
2) Have the new posters beaten down the standards?
Just ranting, sorry. Please please please use code tags.
please?

For those who miss the URL tag, try the following. It works in IE, but I don't know about any other browsers. I found this on the internet a while back.
Make a favorite (on your Links bar is a good place), with the following as the URL (all in one string, of course--get rid of any spaces that the forum might insert):
javascript:if(frames.length>0){alert('Frames!')}else{ulBV3pQy=document.selection.createRange().text;if(ulBV3pQy!=''){location.href=ulBV3pQy.replace(/\042/g,'').replace(/\047/g,'')}else{alert('Select%20text%20on%20page%20like:\n%20%20%20http://www.domain.com...')}}(Sorry for the long line--code tags should eliminate the extraneous spaces, right?)
Then, if you see a link in a page, such as any of the following links that OPs need to remember:
http://www.google.com
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/
Select (highlight) the link, click the "Favorite" that you made, and the link will be opened in the current window. No need to copy and paste--just highlight and click the favorite.
I have found this shortcut to be quite useful.

• Code tags in forum help produce white on black

Have a look: https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#smilies
On my browser, code tags in normal posts are rendered black on powder blue:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, suas lorem menandri pro at, quod quot tritani ne cum. Eu mei cetero molestiae dissentiet, eam suas case aliquando id. Cum id mazim audire quaeque. Sit no tation apeirian, an mazim minimum temporibus cum. Et libris reprimique referrentur ius, vis ea fastidii delectus senserit.
Global setting? User setting?

Yes. The default theme was made exclusively for this forum. All other themes are provided by upstream and are generic. As such, they don't have site-specific stuff.

• Code tags broken

Are code tags suddenly broken for anyone else?

Hurray, let's celebrate the forum software. Why
can't the developers at least beta test?The same every time, isn't it? How often did I tell
them not to try and improve anything?I wish they would just learn to listen.

• Java forum code button broken.... Whats the code to write the code tags?

I cant use the code button. I click it nothing happens any idea why? I forgot the code that makes the code tags.

the "code" button was introduced for the homework kiddos in an attempt to honour their requests to "gif mi zu koduz" and teach them some English at the same time.
By general request of senior forum members that functionality has now been removed but the now disfunctional button was retained.

• Use the [code]...[/code] tage when postig code!

When you're posting source code, enclose that code in the CODE tag so it is legible to other people on the forum. There is a BUTTON, directly above the Message text area that you can push to get a code tag to use. Put your code between the [CODE] and the [/CODE] tags and it will look much, much better!! And it will prevent a slew of people telling you to "use the code tag because we can't read it!" in stead of answering your question.
For example, this does NOT have the CODE tag:
public class MyClass
MyClass()
for(int x=0; x<10; x++)
if(x == 5)
for(int k=0; k<10; k++)
System.out.println("x="+x);
System.out.println("k="+k);
for(int g=0; g<10; g++)
System.out.println("does x even exist in this scope?");
if(x == 3)
System.out.println("Will this compile?");
And to compar and contrast, the following DOES use the CODE tag:public class MyClass
MyClass()
for(int x=0; x<10; x++)
if(x == 5)
for(int k=0; k<10; k++)
System.out.println("x="+x);
System.out.println("k="+k);
for(int g=0; g<10; g++)
System.out.println("does x even exist in this scope?");
if(x == 3)
System.out.println("Will this compile?");
}Also, for your information, if your code iterates through an array using the variable "i", the forum does this really strange thing of interpreting your "[i]" as an italics tag. Everyone forgets about this sometimes, it's not huge problem. But if you do think of it, when you post that code change your variable name so there is no [i] in it.
Alternately, you could leave the "i" variable name untouched, but edit your post so the square brackets get get through to the browser by replacing [ with the HTML code [ and the ] with the code ]

Someone has to say it every now and again.
Then someone will post How To Ask Questions The Smart Way, then some kid will post "You are all evil mean horrid people, go pick on people you own size, you stinky-poo-poo-heads. It is not the poor defencless newbies fault that they can't see the code button, no, it was there mums fault for dropping them on the head a large number of times when they were babys. Mean mean stinky regs". Then someone will flame the Defender Of the Newbies, then we'll take about beastiality for a bit, while flaming the aformentioned Defender. Then Someone will quote Monty, and someone else will post the lyrics to some 80s hair-rock.

• Is there a plugin/ext for a list of code tags that you can click to insert just like in CoffeeCup?

I just recently used CoffeeCup and they have a whole list of tags you can double click on and it inserts them into your coding (HTML5, HTML, HTML4, CSS3+2, & PHP). Amazing! I need this but I want this on Dreamweaver.
Anyone know of a plugin or extension for Dreamweaver? I don't want to ditch my expensive editor but the lure of this code list makes me all giddy.
Below is a screenhot of what I'm taking about.

Tag Library or Tag Chooser.
From Dreamweaver > Insert > Tag (Cmd or Ctrl E) shortcut. Or right click in code view > Insert Tag. See screenshot below.

• PL SQL code tag between html???

Hello
Is it possible to create plsql script tags between html, for dynamic content like java, php or so on?
e.g.:

...
<?plsql
...plsql code...
?>

...

Hi,
You have a page in APEX and you want to have a region wich generates HTML with some PL/SQL to get some values. Is that it?
If so, you just need to create a region "PL/SQL Dynamic Content" and then paste your PL/SQL Procedure into it.
Again... use PL/SQL and the Oracle Web toolkit (i.e. htp/htf packages), for example "htp.p('Hello World');". Reference session state using :MY_ITEM (bind variable) syntax.
If not, please read what Arie said before.

• Asset Bar Code / Tag

Hello,
Is anyone familar with the process of bar coding / tagging assets within ByDesign ?
Is it possible to apply a bar code to the fixed assets with the ByDesign system?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin.

Hello Kevin,
I agree with Ravi; You can use additional fields and can customize it in all the documents.
We are using the same approach in our company where we have created an additional fields and have made them mandatory and have also extended it to all the delivery documents; thus at the time of doing the inbound/outbound delivery users will always fill these fields.
We have embedded the assets with a code but you can also use the scanners and integrate them with ByD system.
Thanks

• How to Color Code Tags

HI,
Usually when tagging scripts, each department is a different color. I.e. Speaking actors, red, props purple, etc.
How do I assign colors so that when a prop appears in the screenplay it will be purple? I noticed on still image in documentation where it looked like this was happening but there was no documentation as to how to achieve this.
When the script is exported to pdf, will it still show the color? In Celtx I was able to color code the break down and see it onscreen, but when the script printed in pdf format the text became black again.
Thank you,
Catherine

Hi Abu,
How did you achieve this, i have a similar requriement. could you please share the solution with me.
