Color on a MBpro

Even though my mac meets minimal hardware requirements declared by FCP, I cannont run Color properly; I can start the app, but cannot import any clips, or anything else... I'm running it on a MB Pro 2,4ghz i5, 4gb ram, 500 gb hdd. When starting the app, it reports an display resolution issue?
Any comments, or experience with such of a problem?
Thanks.

Beyond the minimum display issue, Color was designed to run with an output card (eg AJA Kona, BlackMagic Decklink, Matrox MXO) feeding a standard TV signal to a calibrated broadcast monitor. What you see in the computer display is a proxy representation. It is not in the the correct color space and is there only to reference the material.
You really need an external monitor to understand what you are doing to the material as you adjust settings. If you don't have a monitor, you will be better off using the 3 way CC within FCP.
Have fun.

  • Why 262K Color display on MBPRO 15/2.33 CTO?

My last post was blocked for some reason, which I have brought to the attention of corporate level.
Again, is anyone having issues with there display?
My display is grainy and it could be due to the fact that the AUO made display model # B154PW01 V0 only can support 262K colors or it is the way the display was assembled.
Also, when I switch my display color to thousands my active windows leaves something like trails when I move them around. The “trails” stay until I go back over them.
    What can this mean?
My display is having real problems. All of my colleagues that I am traveling with notice my display issues as well. They all have PC laptops but my MBP sure isn’t convincing them to switch to Mac with a display like the one I have.
In addition, why is it I can connect this MBP to an external display I get no grain?

It's not due to the type of display used; I have no trails on my MBP.
You should demonstrate your issue to the staff of the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or other servicing Apple dealer, or contact AppleCare.

  • Which MBPro setup w/ext. display do I want?

I recently purchased a 15" early 2008 MBPro (glossy) at a great price but my sister just asked me to pick out a new Mac for her. I therefore get a second chance at deciding what my own optimum system is as she will take my several week old MBPro if I choose to go with another system for myself.
My use is primarily digital photography. Also light video conversion and editing, general productivity, web development/maintenance, personal stuff like web surfing, e-mail, flight sim, i-chat, i-tunes, and so forth.
I just had a real look at the new aluminum MBP 15" and was impressed with it. I find the ability to use the new Apple LED display particularly attractive, as this monitor has been well reviewed and is attractively priced. Is this a good choice for calibration for color accuracy, or should I go for something like the NEC 2690 WUXI, which features high bit lookup table and calibration solution (for about $400 more)? If the NEC is better, I might as well stick to the early 2008 MBPro, possibly changing it for the matte screen version (available now at big discount). If the new Apple LED display will give as good or better performance for digital photography, then it might behoove me to go for the new MBPro as this monitor offers some nice features and would be seamlessly all-Apple. The total cost for either choice works out about the same.
To summarize, my choices are either spend more money on the NEC monitor and less on the blowout early 08 MBPro, or spend less money on the Apple LED display and more on the late 08 MBPro. The older MBPro also has an additional slight advantage over the new one in that it comes in a matte screen version. Any insights appreciated as I need to move on a purchase decision. Thanks in advance for comments!

I've never seen a way to do that for a Mac that shipped with ML. The very first thing I'd do with such a new Mac is clone the hard drive to an external drive and then never touch that partition for anything but to boot to in order to clone it back to the main drive as a "fresh" install.
You can use Disk Utility to create a clone, or either of two excellent third party choices; SuperDuper! and Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • Why do thumbnails in Adobe Bridge CC display in desaturated color?

Running Adobe CC on MBPro 15" Retina with attached Eizo CX271 monitor, Yosemite 10.10.3, MBPro and Eizo monitor are calibrated with Color Munki Photo and running under their own color calibrated profiles. My photo files have always appeared quite similar in Bridge, PS, and LR. Now Bridge thumbnails display as desaturated and color shifted when viewed on the Eizo monitor (my primary workspace for color correction).

We are all just incompetent users here.  As pointed out before this is just a user to user forum, Adobe rarely checks in.
I was hoping by now you would have gotten to the bottom of this problem and were offering a solution.

  • Colors different in full screen view

I could as well post this under "Mac OS X", but I think here in the Aperture forum it is more likely to get help.
I have the following problem: when viewing images in full screen mode, their colors are different than in the normal windows mode. The difference is not subtle, but severe. For example blue skies have a lot more red and appear much more saturated.
While trying to narrow down this problem I found out the following (and here it starts to get really strange): I exported one image as a JPEG to the desktop to see what the colors would be. The thumbnail then had the oversaturated colors of the full screen view in Aperture. When clicking on it, Preview showed the correct colors with a normal blue sky. When switching to slideshow mode in Preview, again the oversaturated colors from Aperture full screen came up.
When I disconnect my 23" Cinema Display, the full screen view of Preview shows the same colors on my PB like in window mode. So I believe it has something to do with my 23" CD.
Can anybody come up with a good explanation for this behaviour? Could this be some kind of a profile problem?
    Any help appreciated
    PB G4/1.5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Aperture 1.1.1

I read Zausel's post that referred to the Colorsync Utility. Under the Devices tab I was able to see both my monitors and confirm they were both assigned the proper profile (they were). There is an option to "Make Default Display" in this utility. I noticed it was defaulting to the Color LCD of the MacBook Pro. I had already set my 23" to my main screen in the display control panel by dragging the menu bar to the big screen in the layout tab. I selected the 23" screen in Colorsync Utility and selected it as the "Make Default Display". Now my full screen previews are accurate. Aperture must use the display profile for normal view screens, thumbnails, light table, but change to the default display profile when it does full screen. (previously, it was using the profile for the 15" MBPro screen for full screen views; thus the inaccurate color) Now everything is in sync and my color looks good on the big display in both normal view and in full screen. Hope this helps someone else.

  • Color with 3 monitors because of MXO...

Is it possible to fake three monitors with Apple Color? I've read that multiple video cards causes color not fo function.
I just got an MXO and want to be able to use the 2 monitor setup in color + the MXO. I know you can't use another video card, but can i get a DualHead2Go from Matrox and fake it?

I have a MacBook Pro with a 23" cinema Display. I got the Matrox DualHead2Go in order to add my flat screen Sony 15" (SDM-S73). I have not been able to successfully get all three displays to work. At best I got output on the MBPro LCD screen and the cinema display but the Sony either says out of range or resolution not supported and stays black.... Anybody out there manage to successfully connect a 3rd screen to an MBPro and 23" Cinema Display... thought I'd ask before returning the Matrox box.

  • Bad versions also for different color and contrast!!!!! Help

    hi,
the master sharper than version is an issue for me also knowing that is due to antialiasing in monitor scaling (I print 200+ sport shoots in 1 hour at the end of ski races after racers seen them on monitor and give me ok for print - and need a fast but good software).
But further to this my AP2 on MBPro show the message "Proofing Profile: Apple RGB" at the bottom of the viewer for each image. If I press P key for Quick preview the message disappear but the master images is much more contrasted, darker, and of a different color (and sharper) but much more good than version!!!??? How can i work on a so bad version and also in full screen mode!
Speed is now good, but if no more good suggestion will arrive Ill'be compelled to swich back immediately to 1.5.6 or try again Adobe LR.

You've turned on on-screen proofing. Go to View>Onscreen Proofing to turn it off.

  • Weird Color Issue in Safari.

If I use a second monitor attached to my MBPro (its a Viewsonic 2230) I see these strange artifacts in Safari. A band of the safari window turns a little dark. If I scroll up or down I can 'wipe' it away but it'll come back.
It ONLY happens in the safari window (ie it doesnt cover the entire screen)
It ONLY happens when the second monitor is attached
It happens in both the laptop screen and the second monitor when attached.
If I detach the monitor the color disappears. Anyone got any ideas what's causing this?
I'm looking at http://www.surfline.com in case its site related.

Sorry - please ignore - posted in wrong forum.

  • Wake from hibernation results in crazy colors/shapes/flickering on screen

    Hello,
I have a 3 week old 17" High-Res MBP and it is been working flawlessly until this morning.
I let the battery run down to 0 overnight at which time the computer went into hibernation mode (latch light was off). The next morning I plugged in the power, opened the lid and it started to wake up. I saw the small white dots that normally appear and a "wave" background image appeared. All seemed normal until the screen started to go crazy. There were a bunch of different shapes/colors/flickering all over the screen. I couldn't make out anything on the screen other than the mouse arrow. I waited for about 5 minutes before hard resetting it (held down power button).
It booted up just fine and has passed all hardware tests I have tried. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi
I returned my 15" mbpro 2.4Ghz and got a new one some funny stuff..
But this wake up effect seems a firmware thing as my former mbpro had a
strange thing with the led... [but my new not [yet, nock nock]]...
But it seems a refresh/initiate thing...
When I wake up my mpbro sometimes it shows some weird flashy effects...
But I guess firmware and 10.5.3 will fix this...

  • LR 2.5 to CS3, fine; to CS4 has color shift..?

    hi everybody-
MBpro, 2 monitors all calibrated.  my workflow with CS3 was just fine, but after a recent upgrade to CS4 my images have a distinct color shift that looks like a profile mismatch.  i'll have my CS4 image floating over the LR window and there's an obvious shift.  if i output and open the same image the same way in CS3 it matches perfectly.  perhaps i'll cross post this to photoshop forums, but there seems to be an issue with how i've set up CS4 color spaces as opposed to CS3, even though they seem to have identical settings.  any ideas?

okay, i figured it out, thought i'd post my solution here if anyone else has this issue.  in CS4 there's a new option in preferences>performance.  for my rig (MBpro17, 2.4ghz, samsung syncmaster 215) i had to turn OFF "enable openGL drawing".  now the colors from LR to CS4 match just fine, as they should.  what the #@&%!!
now, what was i doing again?

  • MBPro video controller

    Hi,
After a series of events with my MBPro's screen going weird purple/magenta color intermittently and making text all but illegible, I ran the AHT (Apple Hardware Test).
This returned an error stating there was a problem with the video controller:
    "4VDC/1/40000003:Video Controller"
Can anyone say if this a user repairable issue and if not how expensive repairs would be?
The machine's about 3 years old.
    Many thanks,
    TT

Very many thanks for the info, wjosten.
Thought this might be the case.
Considering the age of the machine this could well be a write-off
But I'll get it priced-up as you suggest.

  • Canon MP780 Color Option, Quality and Media, etc crossed out for SOME apps

    Hi,
I have a Canon MP 780 attached to an old G4 macbook (running 10.4.11) that I'm using as a print server via printer sharing. I'm sending print jobs from a MBPro 2.4 GHz Core Duo running Snow Leopard (10.6.2)
Before I updated to Snow Leopard, all the MP 780 printer functions worked perfectly. Now the Color Options, Quality and Media, Duplex Printing, Special Effects, Borderless Printing and Duplex Printing are crossed out for some application, but not for others. For example, I can print in Duplex from Microsoft Word and Pages, but not from Preview or Safari.
If I do the print job directly from the old MB that's acting as the print server, all the options are available, so this seems to be related to either Snow Leopard or printer sharing.
I have downloaded and installed all the latest drives/software I could find in the CanonUSA website.
Any thoughts on how to get these print services up and running for all my applications?
    Thanks!
    Pete

    Hello Pete,
What you are seeing is a result of using a 32bit driver when using a 64bit application. Preview and Safari are 64bit, while MS Word and Pages are 32bit.
The solution is to use a driver that is written for 64bit (or more so the plugins used with the driver, such as Quality & Media, are 64bit). However, checking the Canon web site, there does not appear to be a 64bit driver available for your model.
So, you could look at forcing the 64bit apps, like Preview and Safari, to open in 32bit mode. With the application closed, find its icon in Finder > Application. Select it and perform a Get Info (File > Get Info or Command I). The Info window that appears will have a button that shows 'Open in 32-bit mode'. Tick this checkbox, close the Info window and then open the application. Now you should find that the Canon plugins such as Quality & Media should be available without the line through them.

  • Can I show a color bar instead of a color bullet in iCal Monthly view for all my events in all calendars?

In the Monthly view of iCal the only events that show a color bar in the event is the Birthday Calendar. All other events in all my other calendars only show a color bullet next to the event (unless I click on that event which then shows as a color bar). I would like to know if it is possible for all the calendar events to have a color bar in the monthly view instead of just that tiny color bullet.

    Greetings Judith,
Before making any attempts at deleting calendar data, backup what you have just in case:
Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
iCal has an automated function located in iCal > Preferences > Advanced > Delete events "X" days after they have passed.  By typing in a value for days you can tell iCal to delete all events before that time frame.
    Example:
    Today is 4-16-2012.
If I wanted to delete all events prior to 1 year ago (4-16-2011) I would type in "365" for the number of days.
Once you type in the number of days you want kept in iCal, close the preferences and then quit iCal.
Re-open iCal and check to see if the events are gone.  If not you may want to leave it open for several minutes and then quit again.
Once the events are removed go back to  iCal > Preferences > Advanced > Delete events "X" days after they have passed and make sure the check mark is removed to prevent future deletion.
    Hope that helps.

  • Fax function of HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575

    Hi,
I am one of users of HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575.
I would like to know can I set the printer do not print my fax number and fax header on paper when I fax my document to others.
I had login as admin but I did not see where I can config it.
    Thank you.
    Regards,

There is no change to this problem after 6 months since the last post. Put simply, and as stated in the previous posts, there is no way to scan a document and receive the image on your PC. If you are working with graphics for any length of time or want to create an image for inclusion as an image in a document or web page using this piece of equipment will not allow you to do so.
Great shame as every other function works well - it cannot be beyond the wit of HP to include a Windows application that enables you to scan an image, receive it in the software you are using at the time (e.g. Outlook, Word, Photoshop...) and use it in your work.
HP Printers several years older than this £1000+ Enterprise printer were able to do this simple job and have done so for a great many years. Just being able to use Microsoft's Fax and Scan would be start.

  • HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575 - Can't scan from Windows

We recently purchased and installed an HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575 to be used as a networked all-in-one solution for a number of offices. I have been able to get it set up on our network and have installed the appropriate drivers on the requested Windows 7 x64 machines, and network printing works perfectly. However, it seems that despite the fancy scanning features available from the all-in-one itself (scan to email, scan to a network folder, etc.), I can't find any way to do an old-fashioned scan from Windows.
I have installed the full software solution available on the driver download page for the device, and while Windows lists the device as a "Multi Function Printer; Scanner" it does not recognize it as an actual scanner. The built-in Windows Fax and Scan simply reports that no scanners are installed. The software installation did not include the HP Solution Center (which I am used to seeing from my experience with various other HP all-in-one devices) or any equivalent for direct scanning. The driver download page for the device does not include any separate scanning drivers, so I can't be certain if they were included with the full installation or exist at all. Some of our staff also use Adobe Acrobat to scan, and even that fails to recognize the MFP as a scanner.
We'll eventually be setting up the device to scan directly to a network folder, but we need a fallback while IT takes their time getting it set up; I can't imagine that the simplest option is not available at all. I must be missing something here, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: To add, I also ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor. Interestingly, it reports the device as a printer and only offers to "Fix Printing" without any sort of resolution for my scanning problem.
