Color Profiles Not Showing Up in Aperture 3

So, I use WHCC for my lab. They supply printer profiles. So far so good. I have put these profiles in both the system and user ColorSync Profiles folder. These profiles show up in my Color Sync Utility but they don't show up in Aperture??
Now what?
Thanks
PS- upgrading computers is a real PIA

Keep fishing
I am using 10.6.7 and A3. The profiles are in both the ~/.../Profiles and Macintosh HD/Library/ etc... Permissions have been repaired along with running Disk Warrior. Here is where is gets really interesting, the same profiles are visible to Aperture (version 2) on my "old" G5 running Leopard. The profiles in that version of Aperture are also nicely sorted. On the new system (Mac Pro/Snow Leopard/ Aperture 3) they are NOT visible. AND, according to a WHCC representative (I talked to someone different this time), it is a "known" but undocumented issue.
Say what you will, so far I am not thrilled with this switch to Intel. It is very "un-Mac" like.
So now I just wait and see if WHCC updates their profiles or if I switch labs or if it even matters… once I get a calibrater that will work with Snow Leopard!

  • Custom color profiles not showing as available in InDesign CC

This is a college graphic design lab environment with iMacs running 10.9.4 and the CC versions of Adobe programs
We have a variety of custom color profiles for our specific printers and media.  They're located in a special folder and an alias of that folder is located in /Library/Colorsync/profiles.  The profiles in that folder do not show up  as available for selection in InDesign CC.  They did before the upgrade to the CC version.  They do show up in Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5 and Illustrator CC.  Is this a known InDesign flaw?  Any ideas for a fix... preferably one that doesn't involve moving the profiles?
    Thanks

I had the same issue when playing with my Xerox Phaser 6110 profiled with colormunki. All software except Aperture (3.0.3) recognized the profile (Color Sync, Print dialog, Preview soft-proffing, even LR 3b2). I too tried all possible locations and none worked.
Then I opened the profile in ColorSync, and edited (Profiles -> Xerox... -> Open ->'desc' tag) Ascii and unicode descriptions to read aaa.icc and did a Save As aaa.icc and there it was, available in Aperture, too.
To my great disappointment the soft-proof feature in Aperture seems to be broken for some monitor/printer profile combinations, and is compatibly broken for printing from Aperture. What happens is the resulting image is way too degraded, even beyond the (admittedly crappy) photo printing capabilities of this printer.
IOW printing the same JPG via Preview and/or soft-proofing with the printer's profile yields way more consistent results. Totally unacceptable for a €200 piece of software.

  • New Color Profiles not showing up in Aperture3

I've spent hours trying to get Aperture3 to see a new proofing profile with no luck.
We use WHCC (White House Custom Color) for prints and discovered we were using an out of date icc profile for their printer. No big deal, just download the new icc profile and drop it in the ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder and... Nothing.
Here are the location's I've tried putting it with no luck:
    ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
    /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
/System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ +(yes I know you're not supposed to put anything in here, but it usually works and is a good place to put things you don't want users to tamper with)+
Putting the profile in any of these locations, the ColorSync Utility sees it just fine, but Aperture doesn't list it at all. I've rebooted, restarted, rebuilt my Library and fixed permissions with no change. Is there a specific .plist file I can destroy that will let Aperture re-discover the profiles on the system?
As a side effect of this process, I moved the old proofing profile to my Desktop. After the now one didn't work, I tried moving it back to see if Aperture would see it... It doesn't anymore. Oddly enough, Aperture does see the display profiles we created for the laptop with our Monaco.

I'd appreciate knowing if anyone has run into this, or has any advice.

  • Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive but many are not showing up in Aperture.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • Cell background colors are not showing in preview - help? - DW4

    Hi,
I created a horizontal table for my menu bar, and gave each cell a different color by creating a separate class for each with background image - image is a block of color created in Photoshop. In design mode they look they way I want, but in preview (Safari) the colors don't show up at all - the whole area is gray, and all I see is the text for each cell. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Alternatively, is there a better way I can set this up to have different colors for each button?
    Thank you!

  • HT2946 Photoshop edits not showing up in Aperture full size image view

I see that my issue has actually been somewhat addressed in #9 of this article, however no matter how long I wait, the edits I make in PS simply do not show up in Aperture.  The edits are visible in the thumbnail view, but disappear in full size view. The really strange thing is that this is a completely brand new issue. Literally just started about a week ago. So I'm guessing possibly I have inadvertantly changed a setting or something, but for the life of me, I cannot find anywhere to adjust it. Would greatly appreciate any advice! Thanks!!

Aperture 3.2.3 has a bug at this time.
If you are running that version of Aperture, you may be experiencing the issue outlined here:

  • Changes made in iphoto library are not showing up in aperture

I currently have Aperture referencing my photos off of my iphoto library. I have made changes (consolidated a couple of events) and imported more photos from my camera and both are not showing up in Aperture.
The new photos I imported were placed into an existing event (in both iphoto and aperture).
How do I get aperture to recognize the changes I made in organizing my library?
    Thanks
    Michael

Aperture won't know that you've made changes to your iPhoto library, and therefore won't redraw the thumbnail or update the main image. The way iPhoto works that if you make a change, it'll create another JPG and store it within the iPhoto Library folder or package (depending on which version you're on). If Aperture is still referencing the original image (quite likely), its not going to know iPhoto has created another one, and even more so, where that file is. You can do it the other way around and up date the to, for example, have images in your Aperture library, referenced to your iPhoto library. If you change the image in Aperture, it will update in iPhoto using the JPEG previews. The only thing that might not change is the iPhoto thumbnail, but the image itself will bring through the changes from Aperture as technically, its the same file is looking at.

  • Monitor color profile - not converting sRGB to local color profile.

I used Color Eyes Pro to color calibrate my monitor.
When I view sRGB images in FF4, they don't display properly (not converting to my local color profile). Images I save as my local profile as imgs, appear fine in FF4. This applies to both JPGs and PNGs.
IE and Chrome have no issues with view sRGB. Local color profile imgs of course appear correct.

    See https://developer.mozilla.org/En/ICC_color_correction_in_Firefox
Caveats: The new QCMS color management system introduced in Firefox 3.5 currently only supports ICC version 2 color profiles, not version 4.

  • The colors are not showing up correctly on my site like they do in photoshop and explorer.

Why don't the colors show up correctly in Firefox? They are exactly the same color yet firefox shows them as slightly different. I checked them in Photoshop. Same hexadecimal, same RGB. It looks correct in Internet Explorer but does not in firefox. The color is: hexadecimal: #0FCFF3, RGB: 15,207,243.

This can be caused by a problem with the color profile for your display monitor or color profiles embedded in images.<br />
Try to disable color management to test if it is caused by a problem with color management.<br />
You can set the gfx.color_management.mode pref to 0 on the about:config page to disable Color Management.<br />
You need to close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.

  • Icc profile not showing up in Photoshop

hi- I downloaded an ICC profile from an online printer that I want to use in Photoshop CS3 so my images appear properly for their output. I placed it in Library/Adobe /Color/Profiles and restarted Photoshop but it does not show. What am I doing wrong?

Ramon look, if it says the downloaded ICC profile is shortrunposters.icc and you place it in the folder listed as such and it appears like that when you look at it in the folder and then when you go to the actual profile list (which happens to be over 100 profiles) and you don't see shortrunposters.icc where the heck are you supposed to look and what are you supposed to look for?
It turns out it is Xentilcle version3.icc now how would I or anyone else know that? The creator of the profile originally said "you need to go to an Adobe site to find out the problem because it isn't us", well excuse me I think it was their lack of identification of how the profile shows up.

  • Printer Profiles not showing in Print Dialog

I cannot seem to see the custom Printer Profiles I have for certain papersin the Print Dialog.
I have added the Print Profiles to Library > Application Support > Adobe > Color > Profiles (and also in Recommended)
But in the Print Dialog under Colour Management > Photoshop Handles Colour > Print Profile - they are not showing. I have done things like restarting Photoshop and converting the image to CMYK from RGB.
I can see the profiles in the Proofing menu and am able to select them.
Any ideas as without using the profiles my colour management is completely off kilter.
Also, can I confirm that I am putting the printer profiles in the correct folder?

Thanks for your response JJMack. I've just found out the problem. It seems that by putting the profiles in the  > Recommended folder as well as in the > Profiles folder this seems to have disabled the profiles from displaying in the print dialog.
I'm not sure why but they are displaying fine now.
I'm new to this forum and I wonder if you know if there is a right place or method for sharing this information as I have spent the best part of two hours this afternoon wrestling with this?

  • Color profiles not shown on colorsync

    Hello...
I have been looking for a solution to this issue for the last 2 weeks without success... may be somebody knows about it ?
Using Mac Os 10.4.11 on an Intel based Mac recently formatted (with the original cd), the color profiles existing on the folder user/library/colorsync or hd/library/colorsync does not appear on the ColorSync utility, under "profiles". So, basicaly, the ColorSync utility does not show any profile by selecting  "profiles" and, of course, clicking the little triangle.
As I was not able to see the icc profiles installed with the printer driver on the print dialog on photoshop, I  get the profiles on hd/library/printers/epson/inkjet printer/icc profiles, right click on the model and "show content", and then included them in hd/library/application Support/adobe/color/profiles.
By doing this, I´m able to use that profiles printing from photoshop. But I´m not happy at all with the solution, as colorsync is still not working as it must be.
Now, I´m trying to calibrate the monitor. And after calibrating, the profile created on -system preferences---display---color----claibrate-, is not shown under "display profile" on that application.  I think this is part of the same problem.
Is there an expert able to give me a hand on this? How can fix it, in order to see the profiles on Colorsync, found them on photoshop and also create display profiles??

OK, we're making progress, it just seems to be some User setting/pref file, trouble is, while most are in the User's Library>Prefs, not all are.
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ColorSyncDeviceList.<12 digitHexNumber>.plist
(There may be more than one of the above to move)
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ColorSyncUtility.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ColorSyncCalibrator.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ColorSync.Droplet.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Lightroom export color profiles not working as expected...

I'm trying to produce an image for a commercial printing service using the colour profile they provide.  I get the image looking the way I want in Lightroom and export it to a jpg with the printing service's printer profile.  As far as I understand it, this should give me a jpg that they can print to give me something that matches what I see on my monitor.
To test what I'm doing, I brought the jpg up in photoshop, and used the view/proof setup/custom to proof the jpg with the service's colour profile.  I thought that doing this would show me the same image in photoshop that I had in Lightroom.  That doesn't seem to be the case.  The colour balance is about right, but the saturation and densities are out -- the photoshop version show less contrast.
So, is there something wrong, or am I misunderstanding the way color profiles work?
    Thanks for any info.
    Doug

To use the profile for softproof, that is viewing it on a calibrated monitor in the profile. You can either try the new softproofing plug in, or open the file from LR into PS in whatever you usual working colour space is (I would suggest ProPhoto) do not at this stage attach the profile.. In photoshop go to View, Proof setup, custom. In the Device to Simulate, select the profile, then choose either Perceptual or Saturation in rendering intent. Check black point compensation and bioth Simulate Paper color and Black ink, if these are available (this depends on the profile). You will now be viewing the image as it will be when printed as long as your screen is accurately calibrated. You can also select gamut warning under view and see which colours lay outside the gamut of the profile.
Whe you have finished just save the file. Export from the print module from LR with the profile attached and send to your printer.
