Combination of Stacked & Overlaid Waveform Chart

Hey everyone,
I've got a challenge for you that would really help me out.  I'd like to use - specifically - a waveform chart to display four parameters overlaid on two divisions (in stacked mode) i.e. two parameters plotted on the first division and two parameters plotted on the second division with no additional divisions possible.  I have an example attached that gets me halfway there (written in version 8.2), but I can't seem to figure out how to make the waveform chart display only two divisions instead of the four dictated by the bundle tool.  I suspect this isn't possible as I can't seem to find a property that allows me to control the number of divisions displayed but hoped that someone else might know a trick or two to disable those pesky additional (and blank) plot fields.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Andrew

  • Combine waveform chart and waveform graph

    I would like to combine the properties of waveform charts and waveform graphs, i.e. I'd like both continuously changing and fixed graphs at the same time.  Specifically, I would like to display one waveform as a fixed, unchanging background, then display another waveform on top of this background while my code is running, as data arrives from a DAQ, point by point.  Is this possible?  Thanks!

    The answer is to use XYGraph.  See attached example.

  • Waveform Chart NOT allowed inside array of clusters; Dynamic plot stacking?

    The NI Developer Zone has a VI that does something I want - dynamically
    stack plots in a useful way. Unfortunately, I would like those plots
    to actually be Waveform Charts and NOT Waveform Graphs (as the
    documentation specifies but LIES!)
    A little further experimentation shows you that it is seemingly not
    possible to make an array of clusters that contain Waveform Charts!
    Why?
    Alternatively, are there any other ways to smartly show many signals at
    once? I have found multiplots to be frustrating as it is difficult to
    assign the number of plots once you start the VI (hence the existence
    of Dynamic Stack Plots).

  • Waveform Chart only shows one channel or combines both channels?

    Hi,
    I have 2 analog input channels and data was obtained by sampling at 500Hz and saved into a text file.
    Can any one take a look at my VI and tell me why I am either only getting one curve plotted in the Waveform Chart or it's simply a combination of both of my inputs?
    Thanks.

    Hey hellolv!
    The issue you are seeing is actually a pretty common one.  For a chart to update two plots the input to that chart must be a 2D array.  Basically this means that all you need to do is insert a Build Array function right before the chart.  I coded a quick example that does this for two random numbers in a while loop.
    If you have questions I might suggest that you implement this in LabVIEW.  You could also check the Context Help (Ctrl+H) and the Charts.VI in the Example Finder (Help » Find Examples).
    Hope this helps!

  • How do you combine a stacked column chart with a clustered column chart

    Hello,
    I am trying to combine a stacked column chart with a clustered column chart. I know that in Excel there is a way to trick that described on the next site: http://people.stfx.ca/bliengme/ExcelTips/Columns.htm
    Is that possible with BI Publisher?
    Thank you very much!
    Codruta Crisan

    Finally I get it myself:
    You need to use graph type as BAR_VERT_STACK2Y and the declare the series that you want to see on the first Y vertical bar as assignedToY2="false" and the ones that you wanr to see on the second Y vertical bar as assignedToY2="true".
    In my case I use 4 Series, 2 stack on the first clustured column and 2 stacked on the second (2Y) clustured colum....see below
    graphType="BAR_VERT_STACK2Y">
    <SeriesItems>
    <Series id="0" assignedToY2="false" color="#BBD6E7"/>
    <Series id="1" assignedToY2="false"/>
    <Series id="2" assignedToY2="true" color="#004A96"/>
    <Series id="3" assignedToY2="true"/>
    </SeriesItems>

  • Combining 2 readings into a waveform chart/graph displaying continuous readings of data from different sources

    Hi,
    In the file
    (Serial Read and Write to .tdms & Compare on Graph – test.vi) I am trying
    to integrate the following two waveforms into a single waveform: Realtime
    reading and Waveform chart (open vi to see). Both of them display speed vs time
    but from different outputs. One comes from an excel file (Teraterm – Results.xlsx
    – sheet 4, (column 3:row 4) to (column 3:row 1878)) and the other comes from
    the Serial input which is in Hex format and is split to get the various readings
    of speed, voltage etc. I have already wired speed to a variety of waveform
    outputs, but all result in broken wires.
    The readings are taken in by the program
    and but I am unable to wire the two readings together into one graph.
    Please do let me know as to how can I make this work.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Dear GerdW,
    I'm sorry again about the misspelling your nick.
    I tried connecting a waveform chart to the two terminals (speed from the DAQ and speed from the excel file) but I was unable to get the connection right. I understand that charts are used for readings which are equally spaced out, whereas XY graphs are used when the readings are not be spaced out uniformly. But I am unable to wire the connections correctly.
    Actually the DAQ device continuously sends out data through the serial port. So I would not run out of data . Are you referring to the data coming from the DAQ device or the excel file? I actually have not thought of what would happen when the excel file would run out of values I am just hoping for the software to run till then for now
    I have cleared up the wires as well Thanks for your help.

  • Waveform chart, plot and Dynamics Data and double data

    Hello everyone !
    I would like to get separate plots on the same waveform chart.
    Actually, I am simulating 4 signals (but in reality, it would be signal from sensors) and I would like to get 4 plots.
    In the end, I get 3 plots and no 4 plots.
    It is very strange... Yet, I have selected 'Stack plots' and '4 plots shown'.
    Actually, I can see the last data has been merged with the first one.
    How can I fix that ?
    Thank you !

    I'm not sure how you got into this state but try going into the chart properties (right click front panel chart and click Properties from menu) and under the appearance tab, unclick "stack plots", unclick "Show digital displays(s), hit "OK", then go into properties again and reselect those two boxes and hit okay. It should correct the problem.

  • Plotting multiple graphs on one waveform chart with dynamic data types

    I'm trying to put multiple graphs on one waveform chart and having data agreement errors. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that dynamic data is being used (I've had no problems with other datatypes in the past). Does anyone know how to correct this problem? I've attached the following .VI. There will be plenty of .VIs on the bottom that won't load, but they are not consequential for this problem.
    Thanks!

    you could use stacked plots by right clicking on the chart and clicking on the stacked plots and than on the front panek you can put a bundle function on the FP and hook your signals up

  • How to achieve this in waveform-chart?

    I do use waveform chart in which 3 waveforms are stacked. My x-axis represent current time and y axis is a some quantity...Please look at the picture attached....is it possible to do this in waveform chart? Whenever mouse/cursor is on waveform it should display y-axis value corresponding to that point.......

    Hi HS,
    do you use 2 different logins?
    If you would enable/show the cursor palette of the graph you would actually see those values instantly...
    When you want to calc with them you can use the properties of the cursor to get the x- and y-value! No calculation of graph size and so on needed...

  • Horizontal scrollbar of waveform chart in tab page resets to end when tab page switched

    I've got a VI in LV 2012 with a chart in one of two pages of a tab control.  Whether compiled to an executable or not, when the waveform chart contains data that is no longer being updated and the x-axis range doesn't show the last point of data, the horizontal scroll bar auto-adjusts to show that last point if you switch pages (back to the chart) on the tab control.  I've tried turning off Autoscaling but that doesn't stop the effect.
    Additional issues:
    On some of these attempts at reproducing this, the X-Axis will even change scaling, zooming in on the data.
    When data is pushed left by this bug to allow displaying the furthest data point, if the leftmost area of the chart was blank before the data was pushed left, the data pushed left into the formerly blank area will not be displayed.  This happened only when the X-Axis was manually autoscaled prior to pushing the data off the right edge of the chart, and only if the x-axis scale was not changed.  If the tab pages are again switched at this point away and back to the chart, the data re-appears.
    The chart is a stacked plot if that makes a difference,  Also, the tab control is not linked to any event handlers.
    Also, the scrollbar works fine if you scroll such that the rightmost data points are on the chart along with blank area to the right, whether there is more data off the left edge of the chart or not.
    Last, the Y-Axis of each stacked plot is unaffected by any of this.
    I hope this isn't a duplicate - I didn't find it in the forums.
    Thanks,
    Erik

    Alex,
    Thanks for the quick response on this.  Again, the charts are awesome except for these minor fiddling details.  Sorry about the terminology confusion - I didn't find anything in the Help system naming the legend buttons, and unfortunately I can't edit the prior post.  When I said "AutoScale LocK" I meant "Scale Lock", and "AutoScale Once" I meant "Autoscale".
    Here are the issues, hopefully clarified:
    1.  If any chart elements have Scale Lock set, pressing the AutoScale button for any plot causes these other plots to autoscale as well.  Note these are not plots with multiple Y scales, they're stacked plots with separate y-scales for each plot.  Changing the "Advanced->Auto Adjust Scales" parameter had no effect on this issue.
    2.  If none of the chart elements have Scale Lock set in the scale legend, pressing the Autoscale button for the X-Axis has no effect if the x-axis was previously set to show all the data history but then panned such that some data falls of either side of the chart.
         This may have been confusing, so here's a breakdown of the steps to re-produce the problem using the VI I previously attached.
    a.  AutoScale all elements of the chart, and turn off Scale Lock on all elements
    b.  Move the data to the right in the chart, so the left half of the chart area has no data (e.g., set the X-Axis range to -5 to 6 seconds)
    c.  Press the X-Axis AutoScale button.  The X-Axis range will not change from where it was in (b).
    3.  The Y-Axis will also auto-scale when returning to the Chart tab if Scale Lock is enabled for the plot with the fix for the x-axis scale in place (restoring the Xscale.Range parameters from a local variable).  If the fix is not performed, this doesn't happen.
    4.  Pressing the Scale Lock button on one of the plots causes the X-Axis scale to be lost IF there is data past the maximum displayed X-Axis range.  It looks like it set the X-Axis to the same problem range as before the fix was in place.  I don't know how to build an event case for this, except for possibly "Mousedown?".
    One more:
    5.  Enabling Scale Lock on any plot auto-scales any other plot that has Scale Lock enabled (assuming the user changed the Y-Axis range from the previously auto-scalled range).  Obviously this is linked to #1 above, but worth noting.
    Thanks again, Alex!

  • Show continuously accumulating waveform chart

    I read around 1000 points per iteration that I would like to show on a waveform chart. If I just connect a numeric array to the Waveform Chart, it shows a smooth sin wave and it looks like it is just appending new data to the old one (kind of like a queue).
    However, if I use a waveform, it overwrites the previous data with the new one. I want to see 2 seconds of data at any given time, so just showing 1000 points on a corner does not help.
    I have tried appending to a waveform using shift register and it does show the result I want, but overtime the size of the waveform gets very large and it slows down the system. I could implement some size-checking and stuff, but is there
    an easier way to make the waveform input behave a numeric array input?
    I need to use waveforms because I want to stack multiple plots an it gives an "Out of memory" array if I use a 2D array.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    There is no way to add cursors to a chart. You will have to use a graph. If you need the ability to plot a point as it is acquired, you can use a shift register with a build array. Since this could lead to performance issues if the array grows with no bounds, you might want to incorporate a buffer like the chart does. There's an example called XY Chart that uses one.

  • How can I update the x-axis to match a time reading in a waveform chart?

    I am recording data in real time and displaying it in a waveform chart. However, I have yet figured out how scale the x-axis to match the actual time scale of my data. I've played with the accompanying property node but that has not produced the desired result. My guess is that there is a combination of xscale.range.maximum and xscale.multiplier values that need to get updataed in a certain way, but how is still unknown to me. If you could assist I'd appreciate it.

    Nobody has recomended using a Waveform Chart!
    A waveform chart will plot the points based on the "t0" of the waveform.
    The waveform chart will maintain the buffer so all you have to do is apply the new data.
    The "t0"'s of updates from more than one plot do not have to match-up.
    See the attached LV7.0 example and jpg.
    Ben
    Note:
    "t0" values for an individual plot must be increasing values.

  • Webi 3.1 Horizontal Stacked and Grouped Chart

    Is it possible to create a horizontal stacked and grouped chart.  I seem to be able to get one or the other using the templates.  Am I missing something?
    Thanks.

    Not really.  I need to have stacked bars grouped.  For example, assume you had survey results.  For question 1, you had a bar with 20 disagrees, 5 neutrals, and 50 agrees.  For question 2, a bar with 10 disagrees, 2 neutrals and 30 agrees, and so on for say 10 questions.  This would be your stacked bar chart.  Now, say you had information spanning a number of years, 2008, 2009, 2010.  What I want is a group of stacked bars (3 one for each year) for Q1, then 3 more stacked bars for Q2 and so on.
    This is a combination of the grouped and the stacked bar charts.

  • How can i display Waveform chart in a subpanel using Vi templates.

    Hi All
    I am new to Labview hence need  some help. I am trying to develop an application which reads some data from a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). The WSN consists of base station connected to the USB port which recieves data from other sensor nodes.  The data comes in a certain format.  Node name, temperature reading, humidity reading etc. I want to read the data from the serial port and  based on the Node name, i want to display the information for each node in s separate window or subpanel etc. So if a new node is detected then a new window is created for that node. Since all the nodes have the same sensors on board i only need a one template. I can read the data using the serial port, parse the data to detect which node it is and also what the sensor readings are. I have created a template VI for the sensor node. I am having problems in displaying the template VIs in a subpanel. I can succesfully display a Waveform graph in the subpanel but i am having problems in displaying a waveform chart in the subpanel. I can see the actual waveform chart in the subpanel, but i cannot see the plot. Would be greatful if someone could point out what i am doing wrong here.
