Command to be executed in solaris machine to know the existing heap size

Hi,
I want to know the command to get the existing heap size of JVM. Java version is 1.5 and runs in solaris machine.
Thanks
Regards,
Nanda

Hi,
one way to do this would be to run "jstat -gc <pid>" where <pid> is the PID of your JVM. jstat is part of the JDK >= 1.5, located in the bin directory. This will give you several columns with the current sizes of all generations of the JVM. The last character "U" always indicates the current usage, "C" the capacity. The current "heap capacity" (which can be adjusted with -Xms and -Xmx) is the sum of S0C, S1C, EC and OC.

  • Any way to increase the default Heap size for all Java VMs in Solaris 8

    Hello,
I have a java product that deals with large databases under Solaris 8. It is a jar file, started by a cron job every night. Some nights it will fail because it runs out of Heap memory depending on the amount of records it has to deal with. I know that I could increase the java VM heap size with "java -jar -mx YY JARFILE" command but I have other java products that are showing the same behavior, and I would like to correct them all in one shot if possible.
What I would like to do is find a system or configuration parameter that forces all Java VMs to use a larger MAX Heap size than the default 16M specified in the Man page for Java. Is there a way to accomplish that?
    TIA
    Maizo

You could always download the source and modify it.

  • Knowing the Total Swap size in solaris

    Dear all
can anyone help me finding out Total Swap size(constant) value in solaris 10
I tried swap -s and used (Used+available as TOTAL swap)
its keep changing, as its is a current swap size at that time.
actually My intention is to used this forumula in the script,as I found that solaris uses memory as physical+SWAP
    (Physcial Memory +swap size)
    Total physical+Total swap
what is the best way to find out Actual Total Swap size in solaris ??

I tried swap -s and used (Used+available as TOTAL swap)
its keep changing, as its is a current swap size at that time.
That's to be expected. See "How does Solaris Operating System calculate available swap? (Doc ID 1010585.1)"

If you want to know the size of the swap device, then look at the device(s) being used for swap and check the size of the slice or zvol. That'll tell you the starting value. The available will fluctuate with system usage. See Doc ID 1010585.1

  • "Could not create the Java virtual machine." when max-heap-size is 926Mb

We received "Could not create the Java virtual machine." when the max-heap-size provided exceeded 926 Mb in XP PC. We found the below mentioned link which confirms that this is a bug
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6945136
But the problem is that the issue does not get recreated in all the XP PCs. Increasing the max heap size to greater than 926 works fine in some XP PCs.
Could there be any configuration related issues for this problem...

If you can't find any difference in your java versions or overall runtime configurations, it's quite possible that the bug doesn't have the complete picture--it might be more subtle than the conditions described. Maybe it works with certain versions of certain lower level DLLs. Maybe it has some dependency on which services are running. Maybe the order in which certain components got installed put one version of something vs. another further ahead in a CLASSPATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, etc. variable.
Or maybe it's as simple as you're not running the version of Java you think you are on all those boxes, as jschell suggests.
Regardless of the reason why it happens to work on some configurations, you found that it fails on some, and that failure is in fact a known bug. So it shouldn't surprise you that it fails at least sometimes, and the fact that it works sometimes has been rendered irrelevant. Unless you're doing research into the specific cause of this issue.

  • Error: Couldn't open solaris/machines/conf003.rc

    Hi:
Installing Solaris 8 Intel is a total nighmare. What a great difference with Red Hat 6.1 (which is practically plug&play)
After following all the installation steps over a complatible hardware intel platform (AMD k6, Samsung Ultra Ata 10gb, no network card), the configuration assistant stops in the first boot showing the following:
    Running Configuration Assistant
    error: Couldn't open solaris/machines/conf003.rc
The root filesystem is not mounted and the configuration assistant has exited prematurely. Booting is unlikely to succeed. CTL-ALT-DEL may be used to reset the machine.
Well, can anyone tell me what is going on? I can see the blue screen at the begining and i have 2 partitions (boot and solaris). I boot from the boot partition of course. AARRRGHHHHHH I NEED SOME HELP GUYS, i know i am a newby :-)

The missing file solaris/machines/conf003.rc seems to hint at a
corrupted saved configuration on the diskette. (You should find
three files conf003.{nam,rc,rf} in the solaris/machines subdirectory
on the DCA diskette). Using a fresh DCA
    diskette might indeed help.
Another option is to try to install directly from cdrom - ignoring the
    DCA floppy. If your
system can boot from the cdrom drive, try to boot using the
"Software 1 of 2" CD (or the "Installation" CD).

I tried with - server option also. But same error. Can any one tell me what is the limit of heap size allowed in Solaris 9? Plz tell me work around for this.

  • SAPInst could not be executed on Solaris 9

    Hi,
I have a problem running SAPInst tool on Solaris 9 and would like to get some suggestions from you.
When run SAPInst -v either from the cdrom or from a local mount point, I am not getting any response back.  The cursor is blinking but nothing registered on the host after SAPInst executed.
    Any suggestions?
We have checked the followings without success:
    1. Environment settings
    2. Shared Memories
    3. File Systems
    4. Patch level for the OS
    5. Tried running it with a different version of SAPInst without success
    6. working with the Unix team to figure this out and yet find a solution for it.
    7. when ran the command>find / . -name <file>
Nothing came back.  The cursor keeps on blinking away….
    8. when tried to run ./sapinst, same thing happened.
    9. while both of the above commands running. We could not see any registered on the host when ran another session and do command >prstat |more
    10. we tried to run it both from the CDROM mount point and from the local mount, no success there either.
Any idea is greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Steve,
Are you installing NW04SR1 on Solaris x86 64 or 32 bit? if so, consider checking the hardware compatibility Matrix.
I have tried installing NW04SR1 on solaris x86 and sapinst fails.

  • Wrong output when executed in UNIX machine

    Hi All,
We have created a java class which takes a file name as command line arguments and trying to test whether that file which has taken from command-line is accessible if it is already in use (like copying from/to other path). For this we are passing filename as argument to FileInputStream Class .
This java class when executed in windows machine is giving expected output i.e. throwing Exception if the file is already in use. But the same code when ran from UNIX machine, there it is not giving expected result as mentioned above. Can anyone please help us in resolving this problem?
    Thanks in Advance

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but did ftp the text file up to the UNIX machine? If you did, were you using ascii mode?

  • "error: command failed to execute correctly" on several packages

Last night, when I updated before shutting down, I got a few errors, as in the subject. As it was very late, I thought I'd pick it up today.
Unfortunately, the pacman log only lists one of the ones that failed as libgpg-error. The other one that I remember erroring was gawk. There were a few others, maybe four or five, but I couln't reliably recall them all, so won't guess.
Here's a new attempt to reinstall gawk with --debug. I did the same with libgpg-error and the error occurred at the same place, with very similar output, so I think the issue is the same for all failures.

pacman thinks the upgrade/reinstall was successful in that the latest version is installed.
I did a search on the forums and the only other issue that I thought was connected might be microcode not up to date, but I had followed the update instructions some time back and as far as I can tell, the microcode  is up to date.
    I have two main questions:
    1) How do I work out what's causing the error, from above?
    2) Is there a way I can work out which packages gave the error, so I can make sure they're installed properly?
    Thanks.

The following packages also had problems
    ( 2/17) upgrading glibc
error: command failed to execute correctly
    ( 3/17) upgrading binutils
error: command failed to execute correctly
    ( 4/17) upgrading coreutils
error: command failed to execute correctly
    ( 8/17) upgrading gcc
error: command failed to execute correctly
    ( 9/17) upgrading gcc-fortran
error: command failed to execute correctly
    (10/17) upgrading gcc-libs
error: command failed to execute correctly
    Does anybody have a clue?
    Thanks,

  • How can i copy a dbx executable to other machine to run without installion

How can i copy a dbx executable to other machine to run without installion whole workshop
packet??? how to generate a configuration for dbx alone???
    thanks

    Hi, thanks for you help.
actually, I have once copied dbx to other machine. certainlly, it needs a license. But when I copied
a license file from the directory /opt/SUNWspro/license-dir/ of machine that installed Workshop
to another machine that i want to run dbx. dbx starts correctly. but when i type
    $ dbx ipCentrex
    it prints following message:
dbx: warning: cannot find global initialization file: dbxrc
    /opt/wacos/./.dbxrc[1]: syntax error
dbx: installation problem, can't find help file: ./SUNW_SPRO_Dbx_help.info
    _find_executable: not found
To suppress this message, add the following line to your .dbxrc file:
    dbxenv suppress_startup_message 6.2
    Reading ipCentrex
dbx: warning: setuid program exec()ed. Reattaching
There might be too many LWP's in this process.
    See `help dbxenv' under mt_scalable.
    dbx: Cannot open lwpstatus.
    dbx: warning: process initialization failed
dbx: warning: can't find file "/opt/wacos/server/feature_server/bin/obj/ipCentre
    x/ipcentrex_main.o"
    dbx: warning: see `help finding-files'
when it says that has errors in .dbxrc file, I can remove this file. But the critical error is why it says
too mamy LWP's in this process? when I debug it at a machine that installed workshop, this error not occurs.
    anyone have answer?

  • Problem with Linux executable in solaris

    Hello
I have a problem. We have sunblade workstation with OS solaris 2.8 version. I have downloaded a program which is developed under RedHat 5.1 and complied with Egcs-1.0.2. when i execute this program i am getting the message like bash: ./Al: cannot execute binary file
I would be thankfull if someone tell me how to solve the problem.
    Thanks Raji

You need lxrun do be able to run Linux binaries on Solaris x86. You can get it at
    http://soldc.sun.com/freeware/details/detail_lxrun_0.9.6.1_8_Intel.html
I've never used it, so please post your results here.

  • How to start Oracle database in solaris Machine

I installed Oracle database in my solaris machine. Everything went fine .. I was able to install it and test the database if it's working or not.
Something happened that made me shut down and restart the solaris machine, the problem is that Oracle is not running, so I have to start it manually, and I'm not sure how to do that ... Is there a way to start Oracle automatically once the solaris machine is started ...
I'm using the SSH Secure Shell Client to configure and install everything into the solaris machine ..

Here is the work around for starting oracle instance automatically.
    1) logon the system as root user.
    2) under /etc/init.d/ directory, create a file name oraclestart(name the file to what you feel comfortable). eg: /etc/init.d/oraclestart.
    with the following content:
    #!/bin/sh
    # Created by Henry Nguyen
    # Date 10/11/2005
    # Script to automatic start and stop oracle instances on server
    ORACLE_HOME=/export/home/oracle/product/9.2.0.1.0 (diffrent on your system)
    if [ ! -f $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart || ! -f $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut ]; then
    echo missing oracle start/stop script
    exit 1
    fi
    case "$1" in
    'start')
    su - oracle -c '$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart'
    su - oracle -c '$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl start'
    'stop')
    su - oracle -c '$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl stop'
    su - oracle -c '$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut'
    esac
    3) create 2 soft link as following:
    ln -s /etc/init.d/oraclestart /etc/rc2.d/S99oraclestart
    ln -s /etc/init.d/oraclestart /etc/rc0.d/K10oraclestart
Note the S99 and K10: that are Solaris priorities to when start and stop an oracle instance and those letter must be capitalized.
    Hope this will help you

  • Taking Backup of OIM/Solaris machines

    hi,
I would be working on Solaris machines and need to take regular backups of OIM. What approach should i follow for the same?
    i) can we just take the backups of the database and export all the configurations(this seems a bit tricky, as might get some problems or human error importing the configurations again.
ii)Or is there a way to take backup/image of the Solaris , so that we can restore it later, if something goes wrong.
    Kindly guide me on this.
    Thanks,
    AJ.

    Hi,
In my sight, it should be a combination of both approach.
    (1) is sufficient. However, there is a possibility of corruption of the installation itself. In that case (2) restoration of image would help.
The frequency of (2) could be low. You could take image backups on major milestones of changes. However, regular changes could be managed using OIM & DB backups.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
