Communicate with FireWire ieee1394 port

Hi all
Let me briefly explain my current situation. I'm trying to use an Audio Interface as a Micrphone arrays. In my case, Audio interface is a device which has 8 microphones input on it and is connected to the computer by FireWire port (ieee1394 6pin). So by connecting 8 microphone to it, it works as an A to D and the signals of these 8 microphones will be transmitted to my computer via firewire. Now the problem is how to read from firewire port by means of a java program to record these signals?
The more I searched the less I found in this topic.
PS1: I work in linux.
Thanks in advance for all your helps :D

You may want to ask t his in the JNI forum: I'm pretty sure you're going to have to do some C/C++ programming.

  • Communicate with a USB port, DLL in Visual Basic, program in LabVIEW

    Hello !
I have to write a program in LabVIEW (I'm a novice in this language) to communicate with an interferometer via an USB port. The drivers and DLL for the USB port are written in Visual Basic.
-I don't know if it's possible to use them just so, or if I need to adapt them to LabVIEW.
-And how to do to call a particular function of my DLL ?
    Thank you for your answer...

  • Firewire 800 conflict with Firewire 400 port

    hi everyone,
i've been having an issue with the firewire ports where they can't be used simultaneously. when my camcorder is attached via FW400 and an external harddrive is attached via FW800, i can not simultaneously capture footage from the camcorder and save to the external harddrive. i went to the genius bar and the geniuses say that it is because both ports run through the same bus.
i was wondering whether other people have this problem but also more importantly, whether anyone has gotten apple to correct this problem. i read on one discussion board somewhere that someone sent their computer back to apple and had it fixed but i want to figure out whether this is hearsay. i know it is possible to just buy a PCI card with additional ports (and/or daisy chain the peripheries together which i don't want to do) but i find this rather difficult to accept after dropping $2K on a system that i assumed would meet my video editing needs.
    please let me know!
    thanks so much!

Apple have cut corners and stuck both firewire inputs on the same bus. I actually think this is true for the mac pro too. To be honest not everyone has bandwidth issues, but I am having a nightmare at the moment with a F/W400 audio device and F/W800 HD.
If it is a bandwidth issue then the only solution is to get an express card. I would recommend trying this set-up first to see if it helps. Mac -> F/W 800 HD -> Cam

  • Trouble with Firewire 400 ports

My firewire ports seem to be working intermittently. Sometimes my external drive will hang when I am trying to back up data to it, and nothing works except to unplug the drive (ouch!). I have tried Force Quit and even tried to shut down the computer. When the drive is hung, I can't get the computer to shut down. The drive light is on, like data is being written, but nothing is going on.
I suspected the drive and tried to use Disk Warrior, but Disk Warrior crashed before it finished rebuilding the directory.
The drive works fine on my other computer, a PowerBook G4, 17 inch running OS X 10.4.
I repaired Disk Permissions, but that doesn't help.
I have several other FireWire drives and they have the same sort of problems when connected to my iMac.
Is there some program I can run to check the FireWire ports?

    Try this:
    First:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Disconnect all FireWire devices and all other cables, except the keyboard and mouse cable(s).
    3. Disconnect the computer from the power outlet and wait for 3 to 5 minutes.
    4. Plug the computer back in and turn it on.
    5. Reconnect the FireWire device(s) (one at a time if there is more than one) and test. Test with each FireWire port if you have more than one.
    Zapping the PRAM:
After the startup tone, hold down <commandd><option><r> until 3 additional startup tones are heard, then release the 4 keys.
Or you can try resetting the NVRAM
After the startup tone, hold down <command><option><o><f> until the text screen is visible. When text can be entered, type the following commands, followed by the <return> key (there are no space characters in each command):
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
reset-all (the Mac will boot up after this command is entered)
Letr me know how you make out,
    Miriam

I'm planning to reinstall Vista soon, and am trying to sort out whether I can beat a USB flash drive for installation time.

Yes I do it all the time. I have a copy of Tiger on my external but leopard would work as well.

  • How to communicate two PC's with the serial port with Netbeans

Do you know how to do it?
Do you know how to communicate with the parallel port too?
    Could you give some ideas?
What commands or instructions I have to use?

What does NetBeans have to do with it?
All these "people" today that start out in Java using all these "nifty" IDE's. All it does is produce exactly this. They think their IDE is Java. Once they no longer have their one specific IDE in front of them, they can no longer function. They have no idea what the classpath, what the compiler actually does, how to package a jarfile, hell, most of the time, they don't even know how to execute a simple application.
As far as your question. Did you even try to Google for some Serial port API package? Assuming you did, did you download it and read the documentation that comes with it? Did you search for a few examples on the web? Did you read them? Did you try them? I can almost guarantee that the answer to everyone of those questions is "no". So, my question for you is, "Why should we help you?" You obviously have no desire to help yourself, so I think we should reciprocate in kind. Don't you?

Dont tell me to do it in java because I need to this on client side not on server side.
such as when client pressed the button, a javascript function will be called and in that function I need to communicate with the serial port of that client... That action will not go to server side.

Is there any way to send a string of bytes to the serial port from the client side ?
Just a button on the web page that sends out stuff to the comport.
I was hoping to do this using java script also ..

  • VISA unable to communicate with or see RS232 serial com port

I have a Dell Optiplex GX260 which has recently had Windows XP (Service Pack 2) re-installed on it.  National Instruments VISA is unable to communicate with the single RS232 serial com port on the computer.  Neither the "VISA Resource Name" control in LabVIEW 8.5 nor the "Measurement and Automation Explorer" can see the serial port.  Refreshing the list does not help.  "HyperTerminal"is able to both see and communicate with instruments connected to the serial port.  In Windows "Device Manager, the serialport appear in the list of hardware without any warnings.
Can anyone please help with suggestions as to how I may be able to get VISA in LabVIEW to 8.5 to see and communicate with the serial port?

Go ahead and put me on your ignore list please!
First, there is a plethora of messages on this forum and a plethora of information in the NI KnowledgeBase. If someone doesn't make the simple effort to take 5 minutes to perform a search what does that say? The issue being raised has come up, literally, dozens of times. Do you like answering the same question over and over and over and over and over again?
Second, my feelings are not unique. You will find that the irritation of people not bothering to do a simple search is shared by most of the regulars here. Why do you think search engines are available? Just so that ads can be sold?
Third, posting the SAME question in multiple threads is self-defeating. People who try to answer don't know what's already been suggested, and end up wasting their time as well as the poster's time in providing the SAME answer and/or suggestions that were provided in the other thread.
Fourth, simple forum netiquette. In both threads the poster essentially hijacked someone else's thread. This is frowned upon in just about every forum that I've ever seen.

  • Does Target Disk Mode work between FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 ports?

Can I mount one as an external volume for the other Mac and vice versa? The one with FireWire 400 port runs on OS X 10.5, and FireWire 800 one has OS X 10.6 installed. If it works, I am thinking of buying an 800-400 adapter.

Can I mount one as an external volume for the other Mac and vice versa?
    Yes.

I've seen one other post about this and I've tried the responses to it: trash prefs, rebuild permissions, reboot the computer (let it rest and uplug), trash quicktime receipts and reinstall, uninstall AJA software and reinstall.
The only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling my OS.
    I'm on FCP HD.
I can capture and print to tape as an uncontrollable device. But I need to edit to tape tomorrow using the RS-422 to my digibeta deck via the AJA IO. It has worked in the recent past (last month), but in the past two weeks I can't control my deck.
Also, I get the message "This computer does not have any serial ports required by this protocol" when I try to set up a new RS-422 AV device control setting.
    Help!

Jerry, I can't thank you enough. I still have a few hairs left on my head thanks to you.
I downgraded my AJA firmware and that did the trick.
I had been on the phone with AJA last week tryingto fix this problem and we had tried everything except that. You know, the trash quicktime receipts, trash prefs, hard re-boot, etc.
They were stumped and finally decided it was a Mac problem not an AJA problem. Ha! (Very nice folks though.)
Your's was an answer I didn't find anywhere else in all my searching of forums.
    Thanks again!

  • How can I configure one of the gateway NI9792 Ethernet port to communicate with a cRIO PAC ?

    Hi NI Engineers,
I intend to use my gateway NI9792 the following way:
    1. One Ethernet port for network connection. That's how I'll develop it, download software and monitor my application through my PC at my desk.
    2. Can the other port be used to communicate with a cRIO device? If so, how can I do it?
It seems to be a stupid question, but I truly could not work this out!
    Thanks in advance,

  • DMZ Ports to Communicate with SCCM Primary Server

    Hello,
I have searched and came to know that on firewall, following ports should be open for DMZ to communicate with SCCM primary server
    HTTP 80 and 443
    8530
    TCP 10123
    TCP 135TCP 445
We are planning to implement a software on DMZ server which should communicate with SCCM primary server.
Do the above ports work for communication from DMZ to Primary or if there are more ports required for it?
Is it possible to achieve this without the SCCM client installed on the DMZ server as i would like the software to communicate via its own methods but the required ports should be open.

Could you please provide the WMI and SQL ports which would be required.
If we talk about generically, Are below ports enough for a DMZ server to communicate with the primary site server ?
    HTTP 80 and 443
    8530
    TCP 10123
    TCP 135TCP

  • Can i communicate by the USB port, if my application is set up to communicate with the serial RS232 port???

Hi to all labview users... Please help me with my deadly problem. Last Deadline is on monday next week!.
I got a complete program now, written and tested OK. It communicates with a slave to control a motor. I've set up the program to communicate with the slave by the VISA RS232 Serial Port commuication.  and all works fine...
Now the problem is.. that The communication should have been by the USB port instead. So what I have done now, is that i used a USB to RS232 converter.  So that the USB Plug is plugged to the PC, and the RS232 end to my SLAVE,
When I send a command to my SLAVE,  the SLAVE seems to understand it and it executes the command. But I must read some data at the port after sending my command to the SLAVE, coz, this command ask the SLAVE to start streaming data to me.
All communication to me from the Slave  crashes so that i get ( sometimes if I get data ) wrong unknown data i cant understand.
So the big question is: Can i use USB communication although my Application is set up with serial communication if I use a USB to RS232 converter???  ( the Driver for the USB - SERIAL conv. is installed well.)
    Baudrate :115200.. parity : none,  Data bits: 8, stop bit : 1.
    Please help me.....

    Hi ZamZam,
Thanks for your detalied description of the problem. However I think the problem is how your USB-RS232 converter is converting the incoming serial command to the USB port. All Labview can see is a "normal" serial port. Do you have some information on the converter? You might also want to contact them to see if they are aware of this issue.
