Comparing lookup columns in conditional formatting

I have a column of type number in one table, and in that same table a lookup column of type number. Do I have to do any special formatting or manipulation to be sure they properly compare so I can do conditional formatting?
First part of clause is in the main table; second part is the lookup
This is the clause in question clause:
$thisNode/@Due_x0020_Cycles <= @Registration_x003a_Cycles_x0020_
(This of course, doesn't work as I expect it to)

This might be because the Lookup is actually returning the index value rather than the actual value that displays. You may have to take the Index value from the lookup and use that to get the value from the original list.

• Trying to compare date columns with differing formats...

I have an app that created a series of tables via ODBC using ANSI standard datatypes. For most, this isn't a problem, but one in particular is driving me crazy: TIMESTAMP. In Oracle, it shows up as a TIMESTAMP(6). I don't want to mess with the app's tables, so every time there is an insert to their tables, I have a trigger which creates records in corresponding tables I build using standard Oracle datatypes (DATE).
I have one function that gets called by several of the triggers that retrieves me a specific row to update, and it uses the value from this TIMESTAMP field in the WHERE clause like this (the value is passed into the function as a parmeter):
SELECT TIMECARD_ID INTO tc_id FROM TS_TIMECARD_MAIN
WHERE EMP_ID = e_id AND VEHICLE_ID = v_id
AND IN_TIME <= logout AND OUT_TIME IS NULL; <----
I seem to have a formatting issue, because unless the "logout" date is a full day later than IN_TIME, it doesn't pull the record (my code does a check to verify there is only one record matching the criteria but I haven't posted it all here for simplicity). I need it to be able to select the correct record with a one second difference.
I have NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT set to 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24.MI.SS.FF' and NLS_DATE_FORMAT set to 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'. The relevant describes are included below. Can anyone suggest how to format my query (I expect to use the TO_DATE and TO_CHAR to compensate, but haven't found the right set) so that it resolves properly? Date math is a pain, but it is critical to my purposes.
Vendor's table
FIELD3_DATETIME TIMESTAMP(6)
My table
TIMECARD_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
EMP_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
IN_TIME DATE
OUT_TIME DATE
VEHICLE_ID NUMBER(10)
Also, some sample default output from each table - not sure why formatting is wierd on my table.
Vendor's table
UNIQKEY STATUS FORM_ID VEHICLE_NUMBER CREATED_DATETIME
11515780978071234994451 0 21423 24005 28-JUN-06 05.10.14.000000 PM
CHECK_DVIR NEW_DVIR SERVICEABLE DETAILS
1 1 1 everything ok
INSPECTION_TIME ODOMETER LATITUDE LONGITUDE
28-JUN-06 05.12.12.000000 PM 119885.1 44.7889490425587 -95.2167677879333
My table
TIMECARD_ID EMP_ID IN_TIME OUT_TIME VEHICLE_ID
5 20044 28-JUN-06 24005

That sounds a bit complicated. If you post your query I'm sure there will be a simpler approach, perhaps something like
where date_timestamp between cast(sysdate -30 as timestamp) and systimestampor if you prefer
where date_timestamp between systimestamp - interval '30' day and systimestampas discussed on Re: convert timestamp to date.

• OBIEE 11g : Conditional formatting in Chart view based on different column

Hi ,
I would like to add formatting to the bars based on another column.
Ex: I just want to highlight bars(metric) when it is less than target value.
We have conditional formatting option in charts but , its working on the same column but not comparing with other columns.
Thank you..

Hi, If you have column A and column B , and for example you want the values of column A to get formatted if the the correspoding value of column B less than a specific value. You just go to Criteria -> Get to Column A -> Column Properties -> Conditional Format -> Add Condition -> Choose your Column B , and then make sure the condition is " Less than the value you want"
Now, In case you want the values of your column A to be formatted if they are less to the corresponding value of colum B, Well, I don't think it is natively integrated, but still, here is an idea :
You drag again your column B , so that in Criteria -> Selected Columns , you'll have the columns A - B - B , then, you go to the newely added B Column -> Edit Formula and modify the formula to be ColumnA Minus ColumnB.
Then go back in selected columns to your A Column -> Column Properties -> Conditional Format -> Add Condition -> Choose now the new column ( ColumnA Minus ColumnB ), and then make sure the condition is " Less than the value *0* "
You can later, go and hide the colum A Minus B from Edit View in Results.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

• Compare two columns and formate based on condition

I know this dead horse has been beaten and I've read my fair share of threads and manuals to no avail.. I have two list that consist of movie titles, holiday movies to be exact. I'm creating a holiday movie schedule which consist of three(3) columns...A,B and C. Column A is the Date, Sat, November 17 2012 thru Monday, Dec 24, 2012. Column C consist of a movie list divided into 2 sections with three subsections each. Section 1 is animated movies and Section 2 is live action, each subsection, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 are lists based on popularity with the kids...low, medium and high respectively. And finally column B is the movie list relative the column A...the schedule.
As I write a movie title in column B, I'd like the cell fill to be light red and the corresponding title in column C change to strike through font type. This way I know I've added the movie title to the schedule...this comes in handy when I ask the kids to help so we have no duplicates in the schedule. I'm assuming this would take a combination of; Conditional Formatting, cell formulas and perhaps an additional blank column for trigger results.
I'm including the table, which include an experimental column I was working on. As an FYI, this has been completed in Excel already, just hoping to get it done in Numbers.
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Hi Stephen,
Both of these are solvable, and the Date solution cold be similar to that used for the 'stock list' in column C. The Movie Title solution is a different case, though.
The stock list is edited only occasionally, so requiring the user to unhide column C, add a title, then rehide the column is workable.
The same is true of the date list, so this too would work with the dates entered into a column that will be hidden, then copied into a visible column with a formula that introduced a detectable difference into the copied version, dependent on the weekday of each date. That difference would be used to trigger the conditional formatting of the cell containing the calculated date as text value. See the example below.
But the (scheduled) Movie Title column doesn't fit nicely into that mode of operation, as it is edited quite often. As editing, usng the model described, requires making the data column visible, editing the entry (or entries) in that column, then rehiding the column, the hassle factor soon becomes insufferable, if nothing else.
The first solution I considered (see earlier reply) is workable only if the the formatted table starts and remains the same size in all details (ie. individual row height) as the main table.Any change in row height in the main table not reflected in the auxiliary table immediately destroys the impression of formatting applying to the correct cells. With cells set to wrap text and varying lengths of movie titles, wrapped lines changing the height of individual rows is pretty much unavoidable.
Best practice here would seem to be to use a separate column to flag the titles already in the "Class" list with a "√" (or flag those not in the list with an "X"), and use conditional formatting to change the background colour of the flagging cell.
Here's a sample, using "W" to flag the weekend dates in the new column B, and "√" to flag the titles that are on the list already in the new column D.
I've added two titles to the weekend date, November 18. One is non-existent (as far as I know), so it doesn't appear in the list and doesn't get flagged; the other is chosen from a visible part of the list to show the highlighting of the title in that list. Column "C" (now column "F" due to the insertion of two new columns) is hidden. G, labelled .Class, is the calculated column (D) from the previous message.

Barry

• Is it possible to apply conditional formatting to a cell (or range) based upon a LOOKUP query to cell values in another sheet.? I want to alter the formatting (i.e., text and/or cell background color), but not cell content.

Is it possible to apply conditional formatting to a cell (or range) based upon a LOOKUP query to cell values in another sheet.?
I want to alter the formatting (i.e., text and/or cell background color), but not the content, of the target cell(s).

Hi Tom,
Your LOOKUP formula will return a value that it finds in the "other" table. That value can be used in conditional highlighting rules. (Numbers 3 calls it conditional highlighting, not conditional formatting. Just to keep us awake, I guess, but it works the same).
Please explain what you are trying to do.

Ian.

• Conditionally Formatting One Column Based On The Value of Another Column

I have the following requirement:
I have 2 columns in a report showing Actual Sales & Budget Sales each year. I am using a bar chart to show the different values for these 2 columns.
I need to conditionally format the column "Actual Sales" so that if it is less than the "Budget Sales" it will appear in red, and green if "Actual Sales" is greater than "Budget Sales." So in a nutshell,
CASE WHEN "Actual Sales" < "Budget Sales" THEN
RED
ELSE
GREEN
END
Thoughts anyone?

CASE WHEN (COL1 - COL2) < 0 then Red else Green end

• Conditional Format In Pivot Table Columns

Hi All
I am wondering if it is possible to accomplish conditional formatting in each column of a pivot table.
My table looks like
Jan/12 Feb/12 Mar/12
Bill 1.00 4.00 7.00
Bob 4.00 1.00 3.00
Charlie 5.00 1.00 2.00
What I am trying to do is highlight the max(value) in each column regardless of the other columns
So for Jan I want to format 5.00 / Feb 4.00 / Mar 7.00
I have tried playing around with Rank but cannot seem to get it working properly.
Does anybody know how this is possible?
Thanks in advance

Hi clueless,
Just an idea...have you already tried to create an extra object max like max(measure by period, person)...so you will obtain the max value for each combination period, person.
Afterwards you can use this object for your conditional report : when measure = max(measure) then 'red'.
give it a try and keep us informed.

• Using conditional formating on member columns in essbase hirarchy in obiee

Hi All,
I ws analysing an existing sample PnL report in obiee 11g.
Wht I found that there is conditional formating used on 'Balance' member column based on one of the member column (net income) from 'income statement' hirarchy of essbase cube. I tried to open the 'Conditional Format' tab and tried to look into the conditional formating based on the columns above. Wht I noticed that , in the filter, some values are uses such as equal to is in 300000 and so on.. I thought of editing the value to specify another value, but could not edit the value as it is non editable.
Can anyone tell me how to specify such value.? I tried to furhter investigate and found that is is actually comming from net income member, but I am not able to edit it modify it.. I wanted to used this formatting feature in my another report which I created from scratch, but not able to understand how to do it..
Any help, please?
Thanks and Regards
Santosh

Hi Dhar,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I have added couple of screenshot to flickr to clarify my problem: http://www.flickr.com/photos/93812026@N07/
Picture 1:
Yes, your assumption is correct. We are using gen x level members in report, but these members are shared members or Dynamic calculations i.e. we have created custom account hierarchy for them.
Picture 2:
Basic situation, when I query that hierarchy. I.e. it returns account names for both members in the hierarchy. Furthermore, so far I have used only one pair of account, i.e. WOC
Picture 3:
I'm able to "merge" these two account members simply by adding "case when" statement to account dimension object. It shows values correctly in a table (picture 4)
Picture 5:
BUT, when adding other accounts to query filter, the returned values are no longer correct, but some sort of multiplication.
--> it seems, that OBIEE cannot figure the context it should do the calculation against and I don't know how to define it there.
Ps. Next step was, that we tried to use dashboard prompt to return correct values to calculations, but after being able calculate correctly values for these above mentioned accounts, we ran into problem, when trying to add entity level to dashboard prompt (OBIEE gave an error refering Essbase). I believe this is a bug in this version.

• Conditional formatting: greatest and lowest values in a column?

I have a column of data, with about 30 rows of values. Is it possible to setup conditional formatting so that Numbers highlights the top three highest values and the lowest three values in the column?
thanks!

How's this:
1. Create the second table for the large and small formulas. I did one column, you should be able to copy it to the rest of them.
2. Create the conditional format for the first data cell in the first row of your data table (go to the cell inspector and choose "show rules" to get to the conditional formatting pane).
3. Select the cell, Copy Style, select all the other data cells in the row and Paste Style to copy that conditional format to the other columns. At this point, the conditional format in the other columns will be incorrect (they will all refer to the large/small values for the first column), you'll have to modify each manually so they refer to the correct cells in the "large/small" table.
4. Copy Style and Paste Style each of those conditional formats to the rest of the cells in each column.
One caveat: You may get more than three smallest/largest values highlighted under certain conditions. For instance if you have four 1's and "1" is your smallest value, all four would get highlighted. If you have two 1's and two 2's, and they are your smallest values all four would get highlighted. If you have 1,2,3,3 and they are your smallest values you would also get four highlighted. Similar case for the largest values. It doesn't appearthat this would be a problem for your data.

• Conditional format of one cell based on contents of another cell

Preparing list of appointments for visitors with time for each. There are four possible status categories for visitors based on projected activity and whether they have shown up or not. (A Group Scheduled, A Group Showed, B Group Scheduled, B Group Showed). I've created the calendar in iCal with different calendars, then accessed that through Bento iCal Events. Bento adds the column with name of calendar from iCal. Info is now in Numbers. (iWorks 09)
It shows Title, Start Date, Location, Calendar. I'm adding more fields using Lookup in Numbers drawing on entire data base brought over from Bento. I'm trying to get what info I need, but none that I don't, so the form isn't too crowded and busy.
I would like to be able to conditionally format the Time column based on the contents of the Calendar column. If successful, the color of the Time column would tell me all I need to know about visitor status, and I could hide the Calendar column and clean up the form.
I hope I've described it adequately. Can this be done, and if so, how?
Thanks! Have a great Thanksgiving!

jpcranch wrote:
Does it work to format two cells based on contents of one of them?
Conditional formatting of a cell depends on the contents of that individual cell, compared with another value, so no.
But you could use a two-table approach.
In general terms, the technique is to:
• make the original table's cell fill transparent,
• Add a second table to the sheet,
• Set the second table to copy the control values into a column of cells,
• Select the cells in that column of Table 2,
• Apply conditional formatting rules for each possible control value (see below)
• Set the text opacity for these cells to 0 (full transparency),
• Click on Table 2 in the sidebar, then use (shift and) the arrow keys to slide Table 2 behind Table 1 to align the highlighted cells with the cells to appear highlighted in Table 1.
• Set the colour of the cell borders on table 2 to none.
Using the information you gave regarding the calendar column, you'll need four rules for conditional formatting of this column. All are of the same format:
Text contains: A Group Scheduled
With the text changed to match each possible entry.
Regards,
Barry
BTW: by changing the width of the formatted column on table 2, you can appear to highlight as many columns as you wish on Table 1.

• Issue with conditional formatting in XML publisher report

Hi All,
I am working on a XML report where in I am required to use conditional formatting to highlight changes, if there is change in any of the column value. The condition is required to be implemented on a text column as well as a number column. I have tried to use the conditional formatting available in the BI Publisher Release 10.1.3.2, wherein I have compared the two columns, and when they are not equal to, then formatting should change to red color; but the same is not working in the excel output.
Can anybody help here?
Thanks,

Cross conditional formatting ie formatting based on some other column is not supported in pivot view.
There are some workaround.See if that helps

Hi,
That's actually easier. See: [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=267:60]
The SQL for both reports is:
SELECT EMPNO, ENAME, NVL(SAL,0) SAL, NVL(COMM,0) COMM
FROM EMP
ORDER BY EMPNOThe SAL and COMM columns have been formatted using:
999G999G999G999G990D00For the Row Template, the Row Template 1 setting contains an empty space (you have to have something in there otherwise Apex adds back in a default row containing five cells!). The condition for this is:
TO_NUMBER('#COMM#','999G999G999G999G990D00') < 100The template will see the data as a string, so we use the same number format to convert that string back into a number and compare this to 100. If we didn't use formatting on the numbers and we are sure that every row contained a number (hence the use of NVL()), then you could use:
#COMM# < 100Row Template 2 contains the format for the rows that need displaying:
<tr>
<td class="t18Data">#1#</td>
<td class="t18Data">#2#</td>
<td class="t18Data" style="text-align:right">#3#</td>
<td class="t18Data" style="text-align:right">#4#</td>
</tr>and is unconditional.
The only other settings on the Row Template are the Before Rows:
<table class="t18Standard" style="border-collapse:collapse; border:1px solid black;">
<tr>
<th class="t18ReportHeader">Empno</th>
<th class="t18ReportHeader">Ename</th>
<th class="t18ReportHeader" style="text-align:right">Sal</th>
<th class="t18ReportHeader" style="text-align:right">Comm</th>
</tr>and After Rows:
</table>Of course, you will note that the record counters at the bottom still show the number of records in both reports - as the SQL still outputs the same data, this doesn't change.

• Is it possible to conditional format more than one cell at a time?

I'd like to use conditional formatting to compare the value in cell E3 with the valve in cell D3. Then I'd like to copy the conditional formatting rule I made in cell E3 to cells E4 E5 E6 E7 ETC. I'd like the E4 to compare to D4. E5 to compare to D5 and so on. Is there an easy way to do this other than creating the rule for each cell?

Easier, yes. Instant, no.
Assuming the only thing that will change in the rule from one cell to the next is the reference to the comparison cell, do this:
Select all of the cells to be formatted.
Set the comparison rule to apply to D3.
At this point all the selected cells in column D will base their conditional formatting on a comparison with the value in E3. The next step is to edit the rules for D4, D5, etc.
Select cell D4.
In the rule statement, click on the cell reference E3 to select it, then click on the correct comparison cell for the selected cell (E4 for D4) to replace the reference.
Repeat with the next cell in column D.
