Compass Search Engine .. Category

Hi,
I have a compass search engine installed over iplanet web server 4.
I also have an instance of web server 6 installed on the host machine.
The compass search engine is used for searching the contents of the iws6. There is a requirement for creating another search engine, which is search only the documents under a particular sub directory.
I am using spider technique to generate the search index database. My concern here is even if i am able to index below a particular sub directory, would it not index the pages above it.
To clarify this suppose there is a page in docroot/dep/finance and if it has URL reference to a page in docroot/dep. And if i run the spider on docroot/dep/finance would it not index also docroot/dep.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Thanks in advance
Giriraj

More details regarding the search engine changing would be helpful.

  • Address bar & search engine bar not working

    On a Windows XP (Version 5.1) laptop with FireFox version 31, the following occurs:
    Typing and pressing enter in the address bar does nothing; neither does clicking the "go" arrow at the end of the address bar. FireFox doesn't auto-complete entries, nor will it navigate to any websites including searching via Google. Also, you cannot type "about:home" or any other variation of an "about:" entry. Additionally, you cannot "Paste & Go." The address bar is populated with the clipboard text, but it doesn't perform the "Go" action.
    The Search Engine Bar has no option for Google, Bing, etc. When clicking "Manage Search Engines" no other options are present. When clicking the "Get more search engines..." link on the window, no action is performed - no tab opens to search add-ons - just nothing.
    I am able to open the FireFox menu and I can press Alt and view/use the File/Edit/View menus.
    I've already performed the following steps and NOTHING changed in any attempts:
    - uninstalled/reinstalled FireFox
    - started FireFox in Safe Mode
    - Reset FireFox
    The TS info is listed below, but as the software has been cleanly installed today, there are no logs or detailed data.

    Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
    *Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
    *Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
    Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

    Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
    If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • How to make my site top in the search engines for a high ranking?

    I am new at this, and I am planning to build a big site on iweb, but my question is where can I get information on how to make my site with high rankings? Would I have to post my site in lots of search engines, or have the hosting company help out? how do i do this?

    As SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is important to you, you may want to consider alternatives to iWeb as "iWeb websites are not made to be search engine friendly" — read more here:
    SEO For iWeb: How to get your iWeb Websites into Google & Other Major Search Engines
    ...iWeb is designed for personal sites and, as such, Apple apparently thinks there's no need for Google — you tell grandma the URL of your personal iWeb site, she painstakingly types it in and then gazes admiringly at the photos of her grandchildren.
    Apple hasn't changed this approach in three iterations of iWeb but perhaps, with all the feedback it receives on this issue, there's still hope. Meanwhile, web-design apps for business sites tend to integrate search engine optimization — Sandvox Pro is an example:
    http://www.karelia.com/sandvox/getyour_site_noticed_andb.html
    Another advantage of Sandvox is that, when viewing your site in Safari, the text increase & decrease commands will work — they don't work for an iWeb-created site. ...For business use, it's important that customers don't turn away from your site because they consider your text too small to read.
    However, if you still really want to use iWeb, this article may help:

  • Defining Search Engine Default on Stratosphere

    My new Samsung Stratosphere came with Google Search as the default when the Search Icon on the phone was touched.  Today I added Bing as an available application.  Touching the Search Icon now unexpectedly starts Bing instead of Google.  I was shocked that the Bing install caused this to happen and have not been able to locate where I can re-define Google as my Default Browser (touching the Browser Icon on the Home page still brings up Google).
    Does anyone know where the Default Browser is defined and how to change it back to Google?

    OldJim wrote:
    Thank you for the responses but no success with any attempts to re-set the defaults.
    Bing, Google Search, and Search Applications Provider all indicate that there are no defaults set when I go to Manage Applications.
    I have not tried the idea of removing Bing yet.  I was hoping to learn where this default setting could be accessed.
    I consider this item still open at this time and would appreciate hearing from someone that knows how this function works.
    Hello OldJim!
    I would like to offer some assistance.
    I tested, and this is what I found:  I had to remove the Bing application (uninstall updates) in the Settings/Manage applications menu, under "All" category.  I then opened the "browser", pressed the "Menu" key, selected "More/Settings", then under "Advanced settings" touched "Select search engine" and changed to "Google".  Now when I use the "Search" icon/key it automatically takes me to a Google search page.
    I hope I have answered your questions, and have addressed your concerns.  Please let me know how this works out for you.

  • Why does Brand Thunder open as a search engine when I open another tab

    I want firefox as my search engine. Ifthis is not possible google it is

    There are two ways a page can take over the "new tab" page:
    (1) Changing the new tab page setting in Firefox (e.g., by creating a user.js file that overrides your preference every time you start Firefox);
    (2) Using an extension to override your new tab page setting.
    Let's check those:
    '''Clean up Extensions'''
    Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the following page. If in doubt, disable:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
    If a link appears above a disabled extension to restart Firefox, you can do that as the last step after completing your review of the list.
    '''Update New Tab Setting'''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''(i) Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''(ii) Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''(iii) Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''(iv) Any other page'' => full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    '''Check for and remove a user.js file'''
    To prevent your change from being reverted the next time you start Firefox, check for this files in your Firefox settings folder (also known as your Firefox profile folder). This article describes how: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    That should do it!

  • Untrusted connection Error when using google search field in top line. Ok with other search engines

    When opening www.google.dk and searching from the page, everything is ok
    When using Google search engine in the address line search bar the error is present
    When changing to Yahoo, bing or another search engine in the search bar, the error is not present
    So, the error
    "www.google.com uses an invalid security certificate.
    The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided.
    (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)"
    is only present when using google search engine in the search bar
    Have tried to delete the files cert8.db and key3.db with no success
    Read about firewall settings, but Bullguard firewall was not covered

    In your "More system details" it says your address bar search provider is Babylon, not Google. Perhaps that's the problem? Or are you using a shortcut to force the address bar search to Google?
    This add-on will reset your address bar search to Google: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
    That might not stick if you have an add-on which reverts the setting. You can disable nonessential and unrecognized extensions here:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
    Also, you might need to edit or delete your user.js file to prevent your settings from being overridden at the next startup. This article has info on that: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • How does search engine actually works?

    Dear all, just wondering how does the search engine in plumtree actually works. I mean whatever the folders, files, etc we upload to the sever database, will it place under it's own categories such that it's own engine will search faster? or is it all the folders, files, etc will dump into the final category? erm... get what i trying to say?
    thanks!

    I suppose by "paging" you mean giving n results per page ?
    Consider leaving out unneccesary information, eg. store only the id's for the elements in the search result and retreive the full data from the database as needed.
    If even the id's takes up too much space, consider only storing enough for a couple of pages. Then redo the search if the user tries to access a page for which the id's are not stored. If most users only see the first page, and very few see for instance more than three pages, then this will save you a lot of storage, at a price of slightly inconveniencing the rare user who wants to see more than three pages of results.

  • Decreasing sensitivity of SunONE Portal search engine

    When calculating a relevancy score, the SunOne Portal Search Engine (formerly Compass server) calculates relevancy out to 6 significant digits. Apparently due to the floating-point rounding routines, 2 documents with identical data will have slightly different relevancy scores, given the same search parameters. This ordinarily wouldn't be a problem, but for our application of Search, the documents need to show up with an identical score. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there any way to force the search engine to ignore the last few digits of score, or round up to the nearest integer?

  • Search engine of PS6

    Hi,
    I am trying to get the browse option of the search engine of PS 6 working on some categories.
    I could not get any RD in a category despite several ways of defining the categories.
    If I only do a search, I could see that items are found that should be put in a category.
    Could the reason be a problem with purging the database ?
    I will be glad to have your help.
    Thanks,

    How it was resolved or what was the problem/misunderstanding ?

  • How do I add multiple scripts from search engines to my meta tag properties?

    I currently have copied the goolge script for website varification and analytics, etc and pasted it into my meta tag properties dialog box. There is no problem as far as Google varifying the page. However, I would like to copy Bing's search engine script into my meta tag in addition to Googles script. How do I go about doing this? Do I hit the return on my keyboard under the ending of Googles script, then paste in the Bing script?
    The the last part of the Google script ending in this:
    </script>
    (paste new script from Bing here?)
    Will this cancel out each other and cause problems?
    Can someone walk me through this process, because Bing's search engine will not varify my site through two of the three other methods.
    Ben

    Adding a script after the closure of previous script is the way to go i.e. right after the </script> tag.
    So it should look something like below:
    <script>
    Google's script
    </script>
    <script>
    Bing's script
    </script>
    Cannot comment on one interfering with the other since it really depends on what exact code is there in the scripts. Google and Bing help resources will be able to help more with this.
    Thanks,
    Vikas
