Compatiblity between Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2.3 and 10.1.2.1

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to access the same EUL using the Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2.3 and the Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2.1?

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close

    Hi Everyone,
    Hope all is well,
    For Oracle Desktop users:
    a) do you ever get this msg when you exit Discov?
    b) this pc uses: Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3 - does your pc have same?
I am trying to run Discov. through command line in a .bat file form Microsoft Access VB/A and:
    1) the bat file works if i run it directly from Windows Explorer
    2) the bat file DOES EVOKE Discoverer when executing from VBA, but it fails right before the parameter screen
comes up with a Windows error
    3) bat file evokes the query WITHOUT parms, so that user can enter parms themselves
Rod West gave me an idea, yet trying to see if it's a more basic problem related to pc, Windows, etc.
    tx for your ideas, sandra

    Hi Patrick.
    Thx for writing...
I must step out for lunch, and detach from this for a little while ....
    a) i can try your idea, and if the idea works, it does not really help me, bec. most of my reports use parms
    b) if i run .bat file directly from Windows explorer by clicking .bat file and then pressing enter , discov. opens fine
    c) if i run .bat file from with Access VB/A using shell(full pathname of .bat), discov. fails right before parm screen comes up
this happens when i am signing in as myself, and executing a query from another sign on called SREG
    as explained below:
this statement works BEAUTIFULLY: (divided into 4 lines for readablity)
    C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\bin\dis51usr.exe
    /connect XXX_SignOn/XXX_Password@odsp8
    /opendb XXX_queryName
    /sheet all
From within VBA, i replace the xxx fields with valid signon and password.
    Let's focus on xxx_queryName:
When i save a query in Discoverer, query is save to an INTERNAL database repository
with the user's signin as a preceding qualifier.
so if i sign in as mytfein, the query's name is MYTFEIN.queryname
To create a library of reports, our admin created a general id called SREG and we sign in using
SREG to save a report so that it is public.
    to recap:
If i save query to database using my signin, mytfein
the query's name really is: MYTFEIN.queryName
if i log as SREG and save query to database
the query's name really is: SREG.queryname
now, the shell(.bat) DOES work when the command line uses:
MYTFEIN as the signin AND MYTFEIN as qualifier for query name
    C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\bin\dis51usr.exe
    /connect mytfein/mytfein123@odsp
    /opendb mytfein.Advisor_CAD_M3
    /sheet all
the shell(.bat) DOES NOT work when the command line uses:
MYTFEIN as the signin AND SREG as qualifier for query name
I want MYTFEIN-->SREG to work, bec. I want to create an Access form that will allow
the user to evoke queries from our public SREG library.
    C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\bin\dis51usr.exe
    /connect mytfein/mytfein123@odsp
    /opendb SREG.Advisor_CAD_M3
    /sheet all

  • Discoverer Desktop (4)- Receiving error Attempt to Open Workbook Failed

    Hi,
The reason for this error is multiple people are opening same workbook. This has never been a problem before as the user would receive message: "Open Workbook as Read Only..."
Now they only get the message: "Attempt to Open Workbook Failed."
We have tested here and have determined it is not a generell issue because we have the problem only on two workstations.
I check the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER for diffenerence between the workstations but without any success.
There is no file access problem
    Any idea?
    Thx
    Arnd

    Hi all,
We are having exactly the same problem. I've come to the point that there's a problem between Discoverer Desktop 4i and XP SP3.
    The scenario we have is:
    a) If an user with SP2 creates a workbook and saves it into the network shared folder,
a.1) It can be opened by users with SP2 as many times as the want. They just receive the "Open Workbook as Read Only" warning message.
a.2) Users with SP3 can open it only if the workbook is not open by any other user. After that all users receive the "Attempt to Open..." error message.
a.3) If a user with SP3 makes any change to the workbook and saves it, it doesn't matter which SP version you have, the file becomes "corrupt" and only one user can open it at the same time.
    b) If an user with SP3 creates a workbook and saves it into the network shared folder it can only be opened by one user at the same time
I've also made tests and the same error occurs if the .dis file is located in a local directory (c:\My Documents for example). I can not open it twice in my computer in two different discoverer desktop instances, and I have SP3, while another user with SP2 can.
Any ideas? Our Discoverer Desktop version is 4.1.48.06.00

  • Discoverer Desktop Issues 10.1.2

    Hi,
I am using Discoverer Admin and Desktop both of Verions 10.1.2
I have no issue with Admin; I could do successfully all the work here.
In Desktop i have login successfully as Application user; and created simple Order Report workbook (Order_Report.DIS) and saved it.
Again when i login as application user in desktop; When i try to open my existing workbook (Order_Report.DIS); It will prompt me
Do you want to run the query for the sheet Ord_report; Yes/No; If i select option as Yes i am getting error mesg as Failed to connect to database; If i choose No I will get empty sheet; In either case I will see empty sheet appears; From the Tool Bar if i select Sheet --> Refersh Sheet; I am able to see records in my sheet.
When i continue working on this sheet; All of sudden i get error screen as Oracle Discoverer Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close
Basically i have two problems in desktop
    1. When I open workbook i get error as Failed to connect to database
    2. All of sudden i get vague error as Oracle Discoverer Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close
I would appreicate if some one can help on this.
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
I have the same issue with Discoverer Plus 10g Rel 1 (10.2.0.2 )
Desktop and Administrator are working good. So, I cannot resolve it by re-installation.
Also, this is not reproducible. Sometimes it works very smoothly, but sometimes it gives error for the same report.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks!

  • How to add the USER who logged in discoverer desktop to the title

i want to add the user name on the title above the page body of discoverer desktop next to the &DATE and & TIME in title

    Hi,
    When adding to the title:
The default available on the Insert menu is the full page item list &PageItems.
However the undocumented way to add a single page item is to type &PageItemName which in this case will be the calculation item for the USER function.
    For example:
    Calculation TheUser defined as USER.
    Place TheUser on pageitems area.
Add &TheUser to page title (does not require &PageItems to be present)

  • Discoverer desktop very slow

When I run some query in discoverer desktop, it take 2 minutes and more. When I take the query and run it on toad, the results appear in 93 ms.
I have tried to reduct th time take by desktop but nothing
    Help me please.
    Thank you

    Hi,
You need to establish whether the problem is with the pc, the network or the database. So the first things you need to check are:
    1. Is it a crosstab report, do you have the same issue if it is a table report?
    2. How many rows does it return, do you have the same issue if you limit the rows to just a few?
    3. Is it an Apps mode database mode EUL, if it is apps mode, you need to check the the users context in the database is not causing an issue?
    4. Is this a general problem or a problem with a specific query?

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop Report output showing unicode characters

    Hi,
Oracle Discoverer Desktop 4i version Report output showing the below unicode characters.
    kara¿ah L¿MAK HOLD¿NG A.¿
We ran the same query in sql at that time the data showing correctly.
Please let me know, is there any language settings/ NLS settings are need to set
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi
Let me give you some background. In the Windows registy, every Oracle Home has a setting called NLS_LANG. This is the variable that controls, among other things, the numeric characters and the language used. The variable is made up of 3 parts. These are:
    language_territory.characterset
Notice how there is an underscore character between the first two variables and a period between the last two. This is very important and must not be changed.
So, for example, most American settings look like this: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
The second variable, the territory, controls the default date, monetary, and numeric formats and must correspond to the name of a country. So if I wanted to use the Greek settings for numeric formatting, editing the NLS_LANG for Discoverer Desktop to this setting will do the trick:
    AMERICAN_GREECE.WE8MSWIN1252
Can you please check your settings? Here's a workflow:
    a) Open up your registry by running Regedit
    b) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
    c) Look for the Oracle Home corresponding to where Discoverer Desktop is installed. It's probably called KEY_BIToolsHome_1
    d) Clicking on the Oracle Home will display all of the variables
    e) Take a look at the variable called NLS_LANG - if it is correct Exit the registry
    f) If its not correct please right-click on it and from the pop-up select Modify
    f) Change the variable to the right setting
    g) Click the OK button to save your change
    h) Exit the registry
    Best wishes

  • Difference between Discover Desktop, Plus, Viewer

What is the Difference between Discover Desktop, Plus, Viewer,
i think these are all for Business User only,,,,and Discoverer Administrator is not for Business user..
    Suresh

    Hi Suresh
You're right, up to a point.
Administrator is certainly not a user tool, whereas Plus and Viewer and certainly not used by admistrators. However, because one Desktop license comes with every Administrator license, Desktop is not only used by end users. It can be used for administrators for testing out new functionality that has been added. Administrators do this rather than having to log into Plus to test out a new business area.
Desktop has far less functionality than Plus, although both are report creation tools, whereas Viewer is what it says it is - a report viewing tool.
A few months ago Russ Proudman, once of the main answerer of questions in the forums, went though an exercise with the members of the forum identifying the differences between the tools. You'll find the results on Russ' website here: http://www.proudman.homestead.com/files/disco_diffs.html

  • Dependent Parameters in Discoverer Desktop

    Hi All,
I am using discoverer 10g. i dont know how to filter the second parameter based on the first parameter selection in the Discoverer Desktop.
    Regards,
    Vishwanath

    Hi,
It only exists in the Plus.
There are some differences between the plus and desktop for ex sub queries that can be done in desktop and not plus.
Any way if you'll create it in plus you will be able to use it in desktop but you cannot create it using the desktop edition.

  • Any experience with the Discoverer Desktop on Vista

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone was using the Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2 on Vista.
Are there any specific patches required?
Did you encounter any bugs in the Discoverer Desktop when moving from Win XP to Vista?
    Reagards
    Maurice

So I found the answer to my question: if you want to use the discovere desktop don't migrate to Vista :-(
Subject: Information On Discoverer Certification With Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System
    Doc ID: Note:456426.1 Type: HOWTO
Last Revision Date: 19-SEP-2008 Status: PUBLISHED
Discoverer 4.1.37 to Discoverer 10.1.2.2 are not certified with Windows Vista. It is not recommended to install Discoverer Plus, Viewer, Desktop or Administrator 10.1.2.2 or previous versions on Windows Vista because of several internal bugs specific to Windows Vista dynamic link libraries (.dlls) and memory pointers.
Discoverer 10.1.2.2 and previous versions will not be certified with Windows Vista.
Discoverer 10.1.2.3 is currently certified with Windows Vista. But currently, we are not recommending Patchset 10.1.2.3 to customers for two primary reasons:
Due to the code freeze time-line of 10.1.2.3, there is a delta between the code corrections/enhancements in Discoverer 10.1.2.2+CP7 and 10.1.2.3. Discoverer Development is currently working on cumulative patch 1 over 10.1.2.3. This note will be updated once it is available.

  • Discoverer report - Output from Discoverer plus is not the same as Discoverer desktop

As a part of Upgrade project we are migrating the discoverer reports from 11i (11.5.10.2) to R12 (12.1.3) .After migrating to R12, for a custom discoverer report the output given by discoverer desktop is correct (24 rows for a scenario). But the report output from Discoverer plus does not show the credit transactions (2 rows). The output from Discoverer plus shows only 22 rows (24 - 2), which is incorrect. The query is the same in Discoverer desktop and Discoverer plus.
Please let me know why these transactions that are appearing when the report is run from discoverer desktop are not appearing in discoverer plus. Is there any setup in discoverer plus for this?
    Regards,
    Brajesh

Pretty hard to answer a question like this.  Best bet would be to copy the existing discoverer plus book and start removing conditions, fields, etc until those two rows from desktop show up and see if you can work it out.

  • Checkbox in discoverer desktop edition

    Hi,
The query we are executing created for cross tab report have plenty of views and is returning null data which needs apps intialization which cannot be done from discoverer.
I think loging into Discoverer desktop edition with oracle applications user would resolve the same.
I have checked the checkbox in desktop edition and logged in as operations/welcome. but it is showing as invalid user name /password.
please help in setup that must required to check and login to oracle applications user. Also Provide if there is any alternative.
I would be very much thankful if you could help me on this.

    Hi,
The apps initialization can be done by Discoverer provided that you are connecting to an Apps mode EUL with an applications username and password.
You must specify that you want an Apps mode EUL when the EUL is created. Then when you connect to Disco Admin as the owner of the EUL you will be able to grant access privs and security to the Application users and responsbilities.
If you have an apps mode EUL and still get an invalid username/password then this could be because the application is running in secure mode. Then you need to copy the .dbc file to a local directory. Search this forum for details on how to do this.

  • Discoverer Desktop crash

When trying to open a report created by a colleague, Discoverer immediately throws a Windows (Vista 32Bit) error that "Oracle Discoverer Desktop has stopped working". I click close program, and Discoverer closes. It's a very simple report so I recreated it yesterday, ran it fine, could change parameters for different outputs, no problems. This morning I log in and when trying to open the newly created report from yesterday, same error. No exception, no memory pointers, nothing, just the Win error that it has stopped working.
Anyone seen this before? Running Discoverer Desktop v 10.1.2.3 Client v 10.1.2.55.26.

My colleague was able to open and modify the report that I created without issue so I suspect the report is alright, perhaps my installation? Odd that I can run many other reports just fine in the same environment and that this one ran fine from development, but as soon as I closed it to reopen, no luck.

  • Discoverer Desktop Graphing Questions

I have several questions about the graphing tool in Discoverer Desktop:
    1. I'm bringing in a customer id field which I convert with a to_char in the query from a numeric field. Most of them are 5-digit, but some are 4. I notice in the x-axis the customer id's appear only for the 5 digit id's, and for the 4-digit ones the identifier appears. i.e. if the 5th record has an id of 1508, instead of displaying 1508 it displays 5. Does anyone know how to correct this?
    2. In the y-axis values, is it possible to display more than 5 decimal places? (We're dealing with very small percentages). When I try to enter 6 or higher as the decimal value in Options, it says invalid number.
    3. When I open an existing workbook, it readjusts the y-axis scale to a max of 1, when I've set it to .0001. How I can I make this retain my scale values?
    4. Is it possible to display the y-values in the graph area itself next to the plot points?
    Thanks for any help!!!!

    Hi paul,
Its a good idea to upgrade from 4i to 10g 4i is no more used by many and their are some issues or bugs with it.The latest version is 11g which has been released 1 week back.If not go with 10g version available.
    1) Do all reports have to be stored on the database to allow them to be accessed by Plus or Viewer? Can only the 10G client version open files from a local hardrive or shared network drive?Yes they have to stored in the database so any ened user can access them from plus or viewer.
Can only one report be open at any given time with Plus or Viewer? In client it is possible to have 2 reports open at the same time to facilitate easier comparisons.Yes,if the reports are registered as different reports and if the end user has access to both the reports thn he can open and compare it OR if both reports are in same workbook as different sheets than its easy to view or compare.
NULL values are still showing the word "NULL" even though in Tools Options we have set it to show blank, existing reports are still using the NULL value. It should show blank, might be some problem. In discoverer 10g i think you will not find this issues.
    Hope this helps you.
    Best Wishes,
    kranthi.
