Compile flags disturbe building of package [solved]

Hi.
I have my compile flags set in makepkg.conf, and every package was building ok till now. Yesterday I tryed to build Sphinx with yaourt, but the build stoped when building libsphinxclient. I think it has something to do with the compiler flags set in makepkg.conf. When it builds with yaourt:
/bin/sh ./libtool --mode=compile --tag=CC gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I. -march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe -c -o sphinxclient.lo sphinxclient.c
and the build stops after that (this does not give the error, but it doesn't build some libraries needed afterwards).
When I build it manually, the command differs:
/bin/sh ./libtool --mode=compile --tag=CC gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.     -g -O2 -c -o sphinxclient.lo sphinxclient.c
The ./configure for the manuall build is the same as from the PKGBUILD
This is the whole build process for libsphinxclient from yaourt:

/bin/sh ./libtool --mode=link --tag=CC gcc -g -O2 -o test test.o .libs/libsphinxclient.a
gcc -g -O2 -o test test.o .libs/libsphinxclient.a
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/krt/Desktop/sphinx-0.9.8.1/api/libsphinxclient'
In yaourt a whole block of output is skipped after the second line, and it continues with the compiling of test.c:
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I. -march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe -c test.c
Since test.c need's libsphinxclient.a and it doesn't exist (it would have been compiled in the skiped part (like in the manually compiled section)), the build isn't successful.
NOTE: I don't know much about compiling, it's just my observation.
Why doesn't it work with the compile flags set?

Well, it appears that the package doesn't build with multiple concurrent build jobs.
Try adding the following above the line beginning with "./configure" and see if it then builds correctly:
export MAKEFLAGS="-j1"
On a side note, I've found -j2 to work perfectly for dual core systems. I've definitely seen -j(number of cores)+1 being suggested elsewhere, but I can't see why -j(number of cores) isn't equally suitable or even more correct.

  • [solved] building a package with bjam

    Hello all,
I'm trying to figure out how to create a package that builds with bjam. When I build the package manually, I only need to run
    ./bjam --prefix=/usr --with-feature1 --with-feature2 ...etc
and the binaries are created correctly. I need to use "./bjam" because the project supplies its own version of bjam to reassure compatibility with its code.
When I use the same command inside the PKGBUILD, compilation starts fine and in the end I get an error in the build() function, without further explanations.
Since I'm not at all familiar with bjam, can anyone point me to some sample PKGBUILDs or give me some tips how to create the PKGBUILD?
    TIA
EDIT: It seems no special procedure is needed. The problem occurs due to a failure in the bjam build which forces makepkg to abort.

The pkgtools package will do this for you.
See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pkgtools for instructions on how to set it up.

  • [Solved] Would someone mind building this package for me?

Because I'm having a problem with on of it's build dependencies I'm unable to build this package:
    awn-extras-applets-bzr
Would someone mind building it for me?  It's for x86_64 and from the AUR.  I would definitely appreciate it.

Do you also need the dependencies from the AUR compiled?
No, I'm good up to then.  Installed and it works.  Very much appreciate the help.

You sir should be up there with the Gods, thank you - it now compiles.
I still have a problem as it now crashes and not many clues as to why.

  • What are the benefits of compiling in a fakeroot environment? [SOLVED]

Out of curiosity, what exactly are the benefits of compiling packages in a fakeroot environment?  There are a couple packages I've had to compile manually before running makepkg because they wouldn't compile in a fakeroot environment, and was just wondering what the benefits are as to why all packages are compiled in such a way (without an option to disable it).

I only know of downsside and problems doing so. Only installing needs to be done within fakeroot. Next version of pacman will support separate build and package function to solve this issue.

  • Yaourt wont build any packages..../configure: /bin/sh: bad interpreter

im tying to build a package with yaourt and it isnt working.

    Phrodo,
It doesn't work for me either, it just crashes even with libindicator.

    don't use now (0.2.0-1)
it doesn't work and install file directly onto the system overwriting a gdm package file (no real package creation and no real remove/clean)
trying to do better. hold on.
    Comment by: max.bra on Mon, 16 Nov 2009 21:08:35 +0000
    The situation is slightly better.
now indicator-applet-session work as expected. tested with empathy and pidgin.
indicator-applet (the icon with the letter envelope) even that seems to work (tested with /usr/libexec/im-client) but nothing on arch trigger compatible events. as usual applications are patched upstream. standard compiling of available sources, also lacks of initial menu applet found in Ubuntu to launch applications.
no localization at the moment, only English.
I added a dbus rule which may represent a security lack. I ask those who have more knowledge of dbus to give advice on.
    suggestions are appreciated

However I do not think it's worth to be used on arch.

    What are your /tmp permissions?
Also, is your /tmp on a separate partition?  If so, what is the fstab entry for it?

  • Build error :package com.sun.javadoc does not exist

Question from a Turing machine expert who is new to Java.
Trying to run a sample program from Richardson's book "Java JDK 5 Edition" Chapter 1.
In Netbeans 5.5 receive build error :package com.sun.javadoc does not exist
    for "import com.sun.javadoc.*;"
Believe missing classes are in tools.jar in C:\Sun\SDKee5SDK\jdk\lib
How do I define this to Netbeans and/or JDK?
    Using java_ee_sdk-5_01
    and netbeans-5_5-windows downloads.
    Platform is XP.
Netbeans has been updated to date.
    Appreciate.

Are you editing this job in SQL 2012? Is it wrapping your paths in \"? Like for example does the command line tab on the step look like this:
    /FILE "\"D:\yourPathGoesHere.dtsx\""  /CONFIGFILE "\"D:\yourPathGoesHere.dtsConfig\"" /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E
That's the problem I had, and I resolved it by recreating the whole thing via SQL Script and getting rid of all those \" things. I think that is preventing SSIS from looking up the precompiled binaries for your Script Task. So you should edit the command
    line manually:
    /FILE "D:\yourPathGoesHere.dtsx"  /CONFIGFILE "D:\yourPathGoesHere.dtsConfig" /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E
Please write back whether that helps you. David Dye's answer didn't help me at all.

  • Getconf returns compiler flags that the compiler warns about

I have Workshop 12u1 installed on my Solaris 10u8 machine (x86_64). I'm up to date with patches as of a couple weeks ago.
I'm well aware that the Workshop suite has deprecated flags like -xarch=generic64, -xarch=amd64a, etc.
However, when I run "getconf" on my Solaris 10 system, some of the conf settings still return those older flags that the compiler now warns about. That causes a lot of warning chatter when building certain applications (e.g. perl 5.10.1) that are smart enough to use "getconf" to try determine what flags to use in certain situations. Using getconf to find the right flags is even mentioned in the standards(5) page, but following its advice results in deprecation warnings from the compiler. Not good.
If you run the following code you'll see what I mean:
for f in `man getconf | egrep 'XBS'`; do echo "Checking $f"; getconf "$f"; doneIs this something that I (as a sysadmin for the system) should be able to configure, or is it something that would need to be patched to fix? The man pages for getconf, sysconf, and confstr aren't clear where the values are actually coming from.
So, how should this be fixed?
    Thanks,
    Tim

Since I'm running regular old Solaris 10, rather than OpenSolaris, I'm skeptical how much help the OpenSolaris developers are truly going to be. I can certainly give it a go, but even if they fix it in OpenSolaris, it might be a very long time before that fix filters into Solaris.Actually, it goes the other way. New features and modification go into the internal Solaris development workspace before they migrate to Open Solaris. The Solaris Express and final releases and Open Solaris releases come from the same source base. Whether a feature or update goes into a Solaris 10 patch depends partly on demand, especially demand from customers with service contracts.
I'm also a little puzzled about the "backwards compatibility" thinking of the compiler developers. In some areas (e.g. C++ and the standard library), what's shipped with the compiler is years and years behind what's current, apparently in the name of "backward compatibility". Yet where compiler flags are concerned, the developers seem to be much more cavalier about deprecating things and making changes that break backward compatibility. We try very hard not to break code or makefiles. Sun (and now Oracle) makes its money from enterprise users. Their code bases last for a long time, and changes are expensive. Changing a line in a makefile or source code file can mean having to re-certify the application.
The change from -xarch to -m specifying the memory model was more abrupt than we would have liked, and in hindsight, was probably not handled very well. We were running into combinatorial explosion of -xarch sub-options due to the increasing number of architectures that the compiler supports. Some option combinations quietly resulted in behavior that you didn't expect. (For example, the combination "*-fast -xarch=v9*"did not give the same result as "*-xarch=v9 -fast*".) Separating memory model from the other considerations made the options easier and more reliable to use.
Don't get me wrong -- I'm all for forward progress with the tool-chain -- I think that the C++ standard library and the defaults should all be brought up to what's current in the industry. Sun Studio 12 update 1 has direct support for Apache stdcxx (if installed in a standard location) in addition to libCstd and STLport. The Apache library will be in the next Open Solaris. When it will be available in a Solaris 10 update has not yet been decided.
I also think adding support for -m32/-m64 was a good move. It just seems to me that if the developers are going to deprecate a large number of flags that the compiler accepts, they should also make certain that the rest of the operating system can handle that change. To me, that means that they need to work with the developers of getconf/confstr() to make certain it knows how to check the compiler version before it emits a particular flag.Only a few options have been deprecated. It's just that they are probably the ones you used most. :-(
More than one compiler version can be installed on a system, and compilers can be installed anywhere. Programmers in medium to large shops typically run compilers installed on a remote server, although they might have other compilers installed locally. If getconf had to guess what compiler you were using, it would often guess wrong. If you have suggestions on how to match up getconf behavior with the compiler you want to use, please post them in an Open Solaris forum.

there is a similar error reported in the comments of the package in the AUR but it should be solved.
I'm using a fresh installed archlinux with all the packages up-to-date
    any idea?

That's the danger of using patches with vcs pkgbuilds. The code has changed so the patch is no longer valid. The maintainer will need to update the patch.

  • Compile flag for the endian neutral conversion on x86_x64 systems

I am struggling to work on the endianess issue porting the driver and application codes from Sparc to x64 system. The device driver just copies the data in and out the structure from the kernel space to user space or from the user space to kernel space calling ddi_copyin and ddi_copyout in most time. The application ported from Sparc has to be handle the endianess issue.
For instance, the driver returns the data in the structure
    typedef struct {
ushort robot_address; /* medium transport element address */
ushort robot_count; /* number medium transport elements */
ushort cell_address; /* medium storage element address */
ushort cell_count; /* number medium storage elements */
    ushort port_address; /* import-export element address */
    ushort port_count; /* number import-export elements */
ushort drive_address; /* data transfer element address */
ushort drive_count; /* number data transfer elements */
    } element_info_t;
    Byte _0 _1 _2 _3 _4 _5 _6 _7 _8 _9 A B C D E F
    00 01 00 01 10 00 00 17 00 10 00 01 01 00 00 02
    First Robot Address ........... 256
    Number of Robots .............. 256
    First Cell Address ............ 16
Number of Storage Cells ....... 5888
    First Import/Export Address ... 4096
    Number of Import/Exports ...... 256
    First Drive Address ........... 1
    Number of Drives .............. 512
The correct value for First Robot Address should be 1 in Byte[0]->Byte[1], but the value is read to 256 in Byte[1]->Byte[0] since of the little endian. To get the correct value, I have to create a micro to convert the data, but it will take a lot of time to add the micro in the codes with 20k lines.
Is any compile flag applied to convert the little endian to big endian to save my life for the porting?
    I am using Sun Studio 11 with Sun C 5.8 Patch 121016-02 2006/03/31.
    Thanks for your help!

There is no compiler option to control endianness of programs. I don't offhand see how such an option could work, because some data will always be in the machine's native endianness.
But there is a standard Unix toolset "xdr" that allows you to send data across an interface between different architectures, while preserving the data values. Each system knows its native data format. The sender marshalls the data stream into the interface format, and the receiver unmarshalls the stream into its own format.
("Every problem in computer science can be solved by adding a level of indirection.")
Run "man xdr" as a place to start.

  • Library Projects compiled using Flash Builder and ANT have different outputs

    Hi Guys.,
I am really having hard time to get something work right with RSL projects in Flex 3.2 SDK. Here is my weird problem.

    Link Type : External
    airglobal.swc
    framework.swc
    datavisualization.swc
    rpc.swc
    utilites.swc
    applicationupdater.swc
    applicationupdater_ui.swc
    Link Type: Merged into code
    airframework.swc
    servicemonitor.swc
    Compiler settings

When I compile my library projects I get a MyLibraryproject.swc. The SWC has the following files in it
    mx/controls/HTML.png
    mx/core/Windows.png
    library.swf
Note: airframework.swc and servicemonitor.swc has a many png files and properties files in it. But these properties and png files are not included when compiled in Flash builder.
But when the same project is compiled using ANT compc task, i get all the png and properties files from airframework.swc and servicemonitor.swc files into my library project SWC file.

#1, If it compiles then you have no issue. There's no reason at this point not to use 4.6. You should bundle a captive runtime to assure the users computer won't need to have AIR installed at all.
#2, Papervision is old. Use the Stage3D and/or a wrapper framework. As far as the generic "If I download lots of data will it take the user more time to load it", well, of course. Just don't make the loading experience painful. Entertain them while they way or find ways of displaying data sooner than later. If it's desirable on the web has more to do with the context of the app and the device displaying it. In other words, a phone user would find it easy but obviously not a desktop user.
#3, Definitely referring you to Google on that one.
#4, Size always matters, it's common sense. The more you process the harder it is. While I haven't done AR I've used the Microsoft Kinect SDK and ANE and tracking was extremely fast but limited. From what I've seen and your basic built in location and direction hardware on any mobile device you shouldn't have much trouble. Depends on what you're doing.
#5, This discussion would be way too large for a forum. You'd need to consult a firm experienced in AR development.
#6, "Applications using the commercial license do not have to provide source code, but must pay a licensing fee. Contact ARToolworks at [email protected] for more information." They will base your price on your product, there is no single price.
#7, The models could be huge and elaborate or tiny and simple which changes the answer. Consult the answer in #4. Ultimately most people are getting on fast networks with mobile and excessively fast on desktop/wifi. Size matters a lot less than 3 years ago.
#8, Depends on what you're doing. You have to explain it.

  • How can I compile all functions, procedures and packages with a script?

I need to compile all functions, procedures and packages of 5 schemas (users) with a script.
    How can I do it?
    Thanks!

you can create a script to select all invalid objects in those schemas Since Oracle 8 introduced NDS this approach has struck me as a trifle old fashioned. It's much simpler to loop round the query in PL/SQL and use EXECUTE IMMEDIATE to fire off the DDL statements. No scripts, no muss, no fuss.
Having said that, the problem with this approach and also with using DBMS_UTILITY.COMPILE_SCHEMA is that they do not compile all the invalid objects in dependency order. This may result in programs being invalidated by the subsequent compilation of dependencies. This is due to the introduction of Java into the database.
The UTLRP script is much better, because it (usually) avoids cyclic references. But you still may need to run it more than once.
In general it is better to avoid sledgehammer recompilations (like DBMS_UTILITY.COMPILE_SCHEMA, which starts by invalidating all the objects). If we have twenty invalid objects, nineteen of which are dependencies of the twentieth, we actually only need to recompile the master object, as recompiling it will trigger the recompilation of all the others.

  • How to build distribution package with Agilent VISA as primary

    Hi everybody,
I build a distribution package under LW 8.0 in a PC(Agilent VISA is primary), then I install the distribution package in another PC.
But I found the distribution package install NI VISA as primary in another PC. So How could I make Agilent VISA as primary when I build Distribution Package?
    Does anyone can help me?

    TaoZ,
Does your application use both NI-VISA and Agilent VISA? NI-VISA is only functional as the primary VISA, so if you need to use both NI-VISA and Agilent VISA, Agilent VISA will need to be secondary. If you are using just Agilent VISA, then you should not need to install NI-VISA. If you already have NI-VISA installed on the system, then typically Agilent VISA will overwrite NI-VISA because they use higher version numbers than us, but this is not necessarily always the case. Which version of each driver are you working with?
