Compiling endnotes in separate chapter

Hi all.
I'm using the trial of Pages 08 to see if it's a better option than Word for putting together a book manuscript – and so far so good – but I'm having trouble with endnotes.
I need to place all of my endnotes from each section (chapter 1, chapter 2, etc) in another separate section (named "Notes"), with headings for each chapter.
Is this possible in Pages?
Many thanks!
Brett.

Hi Brett
I had to grapple with a similar issue myself lately (how to put endnotes not at the end, but at some other place in one's document). No one in this knowledgeable forum came up with anything, until I found the (obvious) answer myself. There is a function for putting "section endnotes" at the end of a document section. It's actually easy to find, and documented in Pages Help.
Just insert a Section Break at the end of each of your chapters (you can see them if you turn on "Show Invisibles"), and then go to the Document Inspector, "Document" tab. There you'll find a menu that allows you to switch from Footnotes to Document Endnotes to Section Endnotes. Select Section Endnotes, and voila!
The only problem I have now is that Pages adds a little separator line in front of the endnotes, which I don't want. Whereas you could edit that separator to your taste in Word, and make it disappear completely, it seems to be fixed in Pages.

  • Include both entire feature presentation and separate chapter clips?

    Let me state up front again that I'm completely new at this. In my first project I wanted to include a "Scene Selection" menu with animated video buttons, but I could not see how to link the buttons to each chapter using just one long clip as the feature movie. So I created separate clips of each chapter and linked to those. Which worked great. I read another thread here where the guy said he always includes his feature broken up by chapter, so I linked each chapter to the next chapter and the last chapter back to the main menu. It works ok, but there is a long lag between one chapter ending and the next one starting. It doesn't really play smoothly like one long movie.
    So, my long winded question is, do you all include one Feature Presentation clip, and separate chapter clips if you want to use video buttons in a scene selection menu? That's like including the movie twice, a waste of space, isn't it? How would you guys link a video button to a chapter in a feature movie clip when it's all one clip?

    Now, I normally edit with a slightly different workflow, and have each Sequence (in PrPro) as a separate Timeline, rather than a long Timeline with Chapter Markers, but for your use, I'd link the Buttons in the Scene Selection Menu, to the various Chapters. Then, for your Play All, just do a Chapter Playlist and set the order, as required, for that.
    In my case, I link my Scene Selection Buttons to each Timeline, and then do a Playlist (not a Chapter Playlist, but similar) for my Play All.
    As for your Motion Buttons, I would think that you can choose the proper Chapter Marker and then select the Motion Thumbnail in each Button's Properties>Motion Panel. Maybe I'm wrong, but then I do not use Chapter Markers that often, so am NOT the best source of info on them.
    Good luck,

  • Endnotes restarting each chapter

    I have placed a word document into CS5 InDesign and the story endnotes are  continuous throughout the document (ie. 1 - 1100). I need them to  restart at each chapter (this is how they are displayed in the original  word document). Why are they converting to continuous endnotes and is  there a way to change them back?

    InDesign doesn't support endnotes at all. They are all "converted" to plain text. In addition, the original numbering in Word is not honoured -- InDesign is really really bad with all sorts of notes.
    So it would seem you need to manually adjust them. Check out http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/footnotes.html, perhaps there is a tool in there that can help you.

  • Songs on compilation on as separate tracks

    I have a couple of compilation albums on itunes that appear as seperate tracks not as an album????
    How do I group these into one album? Its very annoying with the same album cover appearing 50 times.......

    Steve MacGuire aka turingtest2 - iTunes & iPod Hints & Tips - Grouping Tracks Into Albums - http://www.samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp (older post on Apple Discussions http://discussions.apple.com/message/9910895)
    Quick answer:  Select all the tracks on the album, File > get info, and either give them all a single "album artist", or check the "compilation" flag (as in https://discussions.apple.com/message/17670085).
    If these are from multiple-CD sets you may also need to enter the appropriate information in the disc number fields.

  • How to remove blank pages after endnotes?

    I am formatting an academic book, and am receiving each chapter separtely, piece by piece, and each chapter is a separate file. The author wants footnote numbers in the text, but wants the references to be formatted as combined endnotes at the end of the book (not footnotes at the bottom of the page). Each chapter's footnotes begins with #1. I have inserted the footnote numbers, and then gone to the end of the chapter/document and deleted the endnote text from that chapter. However, Word still thinks that the endnotes are there and won't let me delete the extra blank pages where the endnotes text once existed. I have tried going into "Normal" and then Footnoes and removing the "endnote spearater," as well as the "endnote continuation separater": this has removed the lines, but not the pages. Any ideas? Suggestions? What if I don't insert the endnote text at all in each chapter, but simply create a new document with the end of book endnotes - woudl this work? Thanks.

    HI Julie,
    Are you asking about doing this in Microsoft Word? If so, a better place to ask would be the MS Word (Mac) forum at Microsoft's site. Click the link to get there directly.

  • Endnotes for multiple  files in book

    I have  reviewed  several of the  posts about endnotes and now  am not sure which method to follow. I have  a book file with more than 70  files. Each of these files [a chapter] has endnotes which are to appear all at the end in one chapter called endnotes. they restart numbering  for every chapter [i.e. chapter 1 has  endnotes 1-5, chapter 2 has endotes 1-9, etc]
    The problem is that the text  has already been carefully formatted  and I don't want ot lose the formattign - so I cannot  simply reimport the word file- which  has the endnotes  manually  with numbers like 3, 4, 4.1, 4.2, etc.] I'd liek to make the endnotes dynamic as I must  prepare teh document for  Kindle and epub as well.
    i mus t now insert the  endnotes manually in each chapter - i know  of the script to convert footnotes ot endnotes. But it is my understanding that  teh  script will place teh endnotes at teh end of each chapter/file. If I then try to copy  these all into one file at teh end - I'm pretty sure I will lose the  dynamic links.
    I could try  to  do this using cross-reference but from what i've read it's pretty flaky across multiple  documents and prone to crashing.
    I could also  combine all my  separate chapters into one humongous file - using the  "move" pages command.
    This will be  very tedious and seems to defeat teh whole purpose of the  book but will enable me to use the  footnotes to endnotes  script.
    Which is the lesser of 2 evils -or is there something else I can do?

    Hmmm... if you're not using a script to do this conversion, you might need to do this by hand. Have a look at this tip I just wrote-up for a previous question. It might give you an idea. See: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5923811#5923811
    In your case you'd only continue the numbering across stories, not documents in a book.

  • Need a Button behavior: go to next chapter

    I have a book with about 20 files in it. Each file is a separate chapter. On my master pages, I need two buttons: one that jumps to the next chapter and one that jumps to the previous chapter. But, those destinations are different for each document in the book.
    Is there a way to be able to set up a couple of master buttons that do this, or do I need to set this up manually and never resynchronize my master pages again? I suppose I could set up 20 different master pages, and then apply the appropriate master page to the body pages of each document, but that seems excessive. I don't want 400 master pages. I just want a couple of buttons that jump to the next chapter.
    Any ideas?

    Hi, Kelly:
    You can probably do this with either a dedicated TOC, index, hyperlinks, or cross-references. i haven't tested these beyond a quick experiment, so no guarantees one or more will suit your need.
    * For the TOC method, you could apply a dedicated paragraph style, named for the chapter, to a paragraph in each file, then create a mini-TOC in each file that looks for the dedicated paragraph style in the next and previous files.
    * For the index method, you'd need to create a dummy first-level topic in each file with a sub-level topic named for the chapter (for convenience). In each file, create an index for the book on a master page that's applied to all pages - you might need to create a based-on master page that's used by all master pages for this. When you generate the index, place it on the based-on master page, delete all entries except the chapter-named sub-entries, and synchronize it across all files in the book. This will create clickable PDF links to all chapters. In the index on each chapter's based-on master page, delete the all the entries except the two that point to the next and previous files. When you update the indexes, you'll have to delete the unwanted entries.
    * For the hyperlink method, create links in each file to the next and previous file.
    * For the cross-references method, create a cross-reference to the next and previous files. IDCS4 has built-in cross-references. For CS3 and CS2, you can use the free cross-reference script by Teus de Jong (search Google), or the commercial InDesign cross-references plug-in from dtptools.com, or virginiasystems.com.
    * You'll need create a button-like graphic for the links you create with any of these methods..
    * I'm not near my IDCS4 machine, so I can't check if it can export book chapter files separately. IDCS3 only exports a book as a single PDF. Also, in IDCS3, the links in the single PDF point to the destination chapters in the same document. If your goal is to create separate PDF chapters, you'll need to modify the links to point to the correct files.
    i think the TOC would be simplest to maintain, especially if you capture and include all the chapter links in every file, like a thumb-tab.
    Let us know if any of these off-the-top-of-the=head approaches work for you.

    Hello out here,
    the Sun Workshop[tm] 6 update 2 C++ Compiler Readme says
    in Chapter E. Problems and Workarounds
    and
    Topic 4. Reference From Template to Non-Global File-Scope object is Not Supported:
    A program using templates and static objects causes link-time errors of undefined

    objects from templates.
    So my problem is:
    I have static tyname objects in Templates and get that link-time errors of undefined
    symbols.
    And I do not know how to get rid of that static typename objects.
    Is there a Workaround?
    Which?
    P l e a s e h e l p.

    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your detailed answer!
    Unfortunately there has arosen another problem while
    migrating from 4.2 to SunWorkshop[tm] 6 update 2 C++ Compiler.
    Here comes the original(4.2) code:
    template <class PersistObject>
    class DIDDatabaseInterface : public DIDPersistenceInterface<PersistObject>
    private:
         DIDTableObject<PersistObject>     m_tableObject;
    public:
    It does not compile under Version 6.
    Now the new version:
    template <class PersistObject>
    class DIDDatabaseInterface : public DIDPersistenceInterface<PersistObject>
    private:
    typedef     DIDTableObject<PersistObject> PersistTable;
    static typename DIDDatabaseInterface::PersistTable m_tableObject;
    public:
    That compiles until...
    "did_factory.cc", line 73: Information: Instantiating DIDDatabaseInterface<Devx003>::DIDDatabaseInterface(const RWDBConnection&)
    "did_persist.cc", line 81: DIDDatabaseInterface<Devx003>::m_tableObject cannot be initialized in a constructor.
    Here comes line 81 and surroundings(compiles under 4.2):
    template <class PersistObject>
    DIDDatabaseInterface<PersistObject>::DIDDatabaseInterface(const RWDBConnection &c)
         :     DIDPersistenceInterface<PersistObject>(),
              m_tableObject(c)
    Any idea?
    I would be grateful if you could help.
    Thank you so much.
    Sincerely yours
    Karsten J. Martin

  • Chapter Marker Not Recognized Error Message

    I'm about to export a 15-minute Final Cut Sequence
    with 23 separate Chapter Markers to Compressor for
    use in DVD Studio Pro, but when I try, it gives me the error
    message that
    "1 of your Chapter Markers is less than 1 second from your selection.
    If you Continue, this Chapter Marker will be ignored."
    How do I
    a) Identify which of the 23 markers it is
    b) make the change (as I don't understand the error, all my markers are separated
    by minutes if not many seconds)
    Thanks

    You know, I actually had markers right on top of each other
    in middle of sequence
    It's ready to export, i'm just not sure if
    I need to enable Markers to export anywhere
    in Compressor or Final Cut

  • How to Ignore chapter markers and play track without interruption to end

    I have imported an FCP track with half a dozen markers in it.
    In the main menu I link to this track and want to play it through in its entirety without stopping
    In a separate Chapter Menu button, I link to a bunch of submenus so you can play each chapter separately.
    Ever since putting in the submenus, the track won't play in its entirety and stops and goes back to the main menu when the play head hits the first chapter marker.
    How can I make it do what I want?
    Also, what is the accepted practice with chapters...does one set them to go right to the end of the track or just to come back to the submenu where they were first started?
    TB

    Yes, I did,, but in desperation, I removed all the menus except the main menu...so now I have
    just a DVD with Two tracks in it. When I play the first track, it plays to the first chapter marker then suddenly jumps to the end and plays the last few secs....Do I need to start all over again with a fresh import?

  • Chapter Markers and relationship to buttons in Encore

    OK...this has to be a basic question BUT: When I go from Premiere CS 3 and send my time line that has chapter markers (and each of these chapter markers has descriptive text)...when I send hit Export to Encore, how do I get a menu that would have a separate "Chapter" menu with these exact Chapter Markers automatically set to a button: If I have 16 chapter markers, how do I automatically get 16 buttons on the "Select Chapter" or Select Scene menu. It seems I have to take a template from Encore add additional buttons to equal 16 buttons that I would need then edit it in PhotoShop and correct the text from the button template...and so much WORK!!!!!
    Wont Encore read the chapter markers and their text from the time line and automatically create the buttons on a separate menu page called "Scene Select" or something like that?
    Please SAVE my life with any support or help. I cannot seem to find the Adobe video that would help me with this
    Cheers

    http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/help.html?content=WS88D71543-E7FD-4726-80E 0-7FEA376A5239.html
    3. Choose a menu template.
    Encore templates are predesigned menus that come in several styles. Buttons on the templates automatically link to DVD markers placed in the sequence. Encore creates additional submenus as necessary to accommodate all the DVD markers in a sequence.
    THIS SHOULD FUNCTION AS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND BELOW:
    BUTTONS ARE AUTOMATICALLY LINKED TO DVD MARKERS PLACED IN THE SEQUENCE. ENCORE CREATES ADDITIONAL SUBMENUS AS NECESSARY TO ACCOMMODATE ALL THE DVD MARKERS IN A SEQUENCE.
    BUT THIS IS NOT HAPPENING WHEN I EXPORT FROM ADOBE PREMIERE PRO TO ENCORE IN THE CS3 PACKAGE THAT INCLUDES ENCORE...WHAT'S WRONG ??????!!!!!!

  • Blue ray divd chapter in encore cs3 unable to navigate to next chapter

    Topic " Blue ray chapter in encore the navigation does not work in either preview or folder created or on the blue ray disc
    I had my first HD projected edited in premeire cs and exported back to tape without problem in High def. Then the projected was exported as mepg high def file and imported in encore project testing does not show any error. But when I preview and play a chapter from menu and then click on the next button it only momentarily goes to next chapter but returns back to begining of the chapater it was playing before. although end action for that has been properly set to go to the next chapter. In other words the menu chapters do not go and play the next chapter as they should even when the end points have been st properly. Any suggestions. One way suggested was that I should create short separate clips and put on individual time lien and then link the buttons on the menu to individual time lines rather than chapters on a single time line has this bug in encore being assressed if so how to go about it?/

    I found a similar problem with the chapters in a single time line not responding at all when linked to separate buttons when I used ENcore CS3 to create the BLuRay project and burn either a folder or image (both BluRay) and then to burn the folder or image to a DVD+-R disk with ImgBurn.
    I made sure there were no overrides set, and put each chapter in a separate playlist ( as had been suggested on CreativeCow's forum over a year ago and which worked nicely for me using Encore 2.0 for burning regular SD DVD's). However, this chapter to button system played ok for me in the Encore preview, but not to the burnt disk.
    When I used the separate timeline technique instead of the chapters, though, the project played perfectly in BluRay players.
    One complicating factor is that I am using Cineform to capture, and edit so I can't be sure that's not a factor.
    I also should note, that using my cineform footage, I couldn't get the chapter markers I set in PremiereCS3 to carry over to Encore for some reason so I had to set the chapter markers in Encore.
    If you wouldn't mind, would you create a short BluRay project (I assume you don't have cineform.
    1. Using the chapter points being careful about the overrides and using separate chapter playlists for each chapter.
    2. See if it previews properly
    3. Burning a BluRay folder.
    4. Burning the folder to a BD-RE disk with IMGBurn and see how that works.
    Let me know how that works. Thanks.

  • EPUB Endnote troubles in CS5

    So I have been using indesign for publishing for a little while now and now I've been startign to try and convert a  couple of them into epubs . One thing that erks me though is that most of my books have tons of footnotes/endnotes depending on the  authors preferences and sometimes indesign will automatically link these with their apropraite reference but other times they seem to not even recognized as subscript during the conversion , leaving a big fact nonlinked number where the 'note should. Now I've tried to see if an noticeable difference between the 'notes between the books but I can't seem to find any noticable difference. Am I going to have to grind this out manually or has someone encountered this problem with 'notes before when converting to epub. Some of the books have 60+ 'notes in each chapter so I would  really like to know if there is a quick fix rather than having to link them all manually. ty
    Note: I have noticed that does tend to happen more with endnotes than with footnotes but I have cases with both.

    Really? That really sucks. I have a book with 60+ endnotes in each chapter with 27 chapters. Does that mean if want to have them linked I'll to go one by one and manually link them with cross references or hyperlinks? Also doesn't CS5 have issues with keeping links when porting them over to epub format?

  • How to use different images in the Table of Contents?

    Hello everyone, I am creating an iBook about Architecture and I would like to have different images for each Chapter in the Table of Contents... But when I add an image it automatically appears on all the other chapters, too. What am i doing wrong?

    You drag the image to the screen and it replaces the placeholder image.
    When you hover over the current image, don't you get the message "this is a placeholder . . ." under your mouse pointer?
    I think the documentation states that the new image must be jpg or png, but a Photoshop image seems to work too.
    In portrait mode, only one image shows at the top of the list of chapters, and that can be changed too.
    But in landscape mode, all of the separate chapter images can be accessed by clicking the littel dots at the bottom of the screen when at the TOC page.
