New packages added: compiz 0.3.6 & friends.
Add this to to /etc/pacman.conf

News January 28th
compiz:
    * Added a bunch of patches from gandalfn's ubuntu packages. Please notify me if anything turned out for the worse.
compiz-git
    * Updated packages to latest git.
Other things:
    * Added screenlets 0.0.3
    * latest libgl-dri now works fine (actually it has been working fine for a while, but I just removed the note)
News January 6th
compiz-core:
    * Added note about LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 for AIGLX users
    * Added patch for ati-on-AIGLX users
compiz-core-git
    * Added note about LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 for AIGLX users
    * Added patch for ati-on-AIGLX users
    * added an updated resize plugin
Other things:
* Changed conflicts and provides arrays. The only conflicts and provides are now between my own packages, so if you have packages installed from elsewhere you should remove them first.
* All git packages conflict with & provide their respective non-git versions. All non-git versions of packges conflict with their respective git-versions but do not provide them. All other packages depend on the non-git versions of required packages, since the git versions "provide" them. There are no groups. Post here if there are still any problems.
* ATI-on-AIGLX users: please test the new packages and post here if you still have problems!
Included packages:
compiz-core-git
compiz-core
compiz-gnome-git
compiz-gnome
compiz-kde-git
compiz-kde
compiz-extra-plugins
compiz-settings
gnome-compiz-manager
gnome-compiz-manager-extra

The window manager can no longer handle windows - unable to change focus, or use any button, icon, etc. I installed compiz for gnome as it was told above. When starting compiz settings, I am told about dbus would not have been started - rubbish, it has been started.Hints?
I had the same problem initially, but nightfrost's suggestion worked here: try starting Compiz with
LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 compiz --replace gconf
and then

Try starting gtk-window-decorator (which is part of compiz-gnome-git).
gtk-window-decorator --replace
...or kde-window-decorator (which is part of compiz-kde-git) if you're using KDE.
If it works, I believe you can add 'gtk-window-decorator' in the settings of the decorator plugin using compiz-settings, and then it will be started automatically.

  • PKGBUILDs: Compiz-0.9 (compiz++)

    Compiz 0.9 is the first release of compiz after the C++ rewrite, so don't expect it to be very stable.
    Since this is a development release, don't expect it to be in [extra].
    Here are PKGBUILDs for compiz-0.9 that don't affect you current installation.

    compiz-plugins-main-09
    compiz-plugins-extra-09
    compiz-plugins-unsupported-09

    Configure compiz using ccsm-09 (a wrapper script for ccsm)
    Run compiz using 'compiz-09 --replace ccp'
    Start a decorator with '(gtk/kde4)-window-decorator-09 --replace'
    If you have a problem, try running 'compiz-09 --replace move decor composite resize place opengl'
    Ask about any bugs or regressions on #compiz-dev on irc.freenode.net
    Here are compiz-git PKGBUILDs. For the running compiz, ccsm, and the window decorators, add a -git suffix to the command. (eg. compiz-git --replace ccp)

    NOTE: Emerald has been discontinued since compiz 0.5 so I am no longer packaging it.

    Any idea what this 'compiz-fusion/compiz' is?

    Downloaded latest update 7-27 and all I can say is it is the most pitiful piece of feces I have ever seen. Letters are blue with black background and you can't read **** because of the contrast . What was wrong with the white letters and black background, nothing except some idiot has to justify his miserable existence by making changes on a system that was just fine. Contacts are another issue now that it takes anywhere from 3 to 5 steps to get there. Unlocking the phone is another one , why should I have to unlock it just to have another screen to ask me where to go. I have been on the phone with Verizon as well as going to the store for help in deciphering this new pitiful update. The answers from the help at the stores is to email Google or Verizon about these issues .I purchased the original droid in dec. of 2009 and was happy with it. then upgraded to the razr jan 2012 and have been pleased with it till this latest update and now If I could get anything else  I would, another thing is I would NOT recommend the droid to anyone for purchase.I have even tought about getting the iphone at this point because I am so dissatisfied . when I decided to post this I tried the user name of irked , it was taken as well as ******, so apparently I'm not the only disgusted user.

  • Compiz+Beryl=Compiz+CompComm

    Hi, as beryl and compiz reunited (beryl was made to compcomm, a community-collection of plugins for compiz), i'd love to see Compiz/CompComm PKGBUILDs or Packages (don't hit me if there are already one's available, my arch box' PSU died some weeks ago)

    I made a pack of compcomm pkgbuilds yesterday but there are a lot of them (one per package and plugin) and i was too lazy to upload them on AUR. You can do it if you want. And as I have no place to upload I have put them here :
    http://rapidshare.com/files/32356896/co … r.bz2.html
    enjoy !

  • Compiz or compiz-fusion on intel

    I tried to run compiz from [community] then compiz-fusion from [compiz-fusion] on Intel video card, but failed.
    Beryl works correctly, but compiz wants texture from pixmap.
    I have AIGLX and Composize correctly configured.
    Can you run compiz on intel?

    OK, it works, thanks, but how to automate it?
    This is my current .xinitrc:
    export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1
    gtk-window-decorator &
    compiz ccp &
    #unset LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT
    exec xfce4-session
    as you can see "unset" is commented out, without it it doesn't work.
    I also can't use LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT in the same line, because it doesn't work this way in .xinitrc.
    When I use such solution - each other application starts in indirect mode (i.e. without acceleration).
    Solutions:
    1) start compiz manually - unacceptable
    2) use my .xinitrc - problem with new OpenGL applications (I need to unset LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT somewhere else)
    3) ???

  • Question about programs installed from AUR by pkgbuild vs. repo

    Hi,
    Do programs that get installed from the AUR through pkgbuild's get updated on a pacman -Syu also?
    Thanks.
    EDIT: i.e. unsupported software like gnome global-menu
    Last edited by playdafunkimuzic (2009-04-10 14:53:07)

    and you don't /just/ use the PKGBUILD in AUR. You use all the files in the tarball. i.e: download *.tar.gz and then extract it.

  • Trouble With latest Compiz-Fusion. Fusion-icon doesnt show

    Ok, I've updated to the latest build in the http://arch.nesl247.org/compiz-fusion/i686 repo...
    I can't seem to get the icon to launch.
    It starts via CLI, but I can never see it.
    Addtionally, I cannot launch the Compiz-fusion manager via menu or icon.  It just times out.  If I start it via CLI though, it comes right up.
    What other information can I provide?  Im at a loss on how to fix this.  I am using KDEmod.

  • Compiz in Unstable

    Since beryl project is becaming a confuse-chaotic project, where all plugins are added without a think on usability i'd like to use compiz, which from the last cvs support directly metacity themes.
    Can it be packaged? (David reveneman >> Quinnstorm bugs)

    The liberal open community-based development model is the thing I really _LOVE_ about Beryl and this is also why I don't like Compiz (I hate "one-man-show" development). Only after Beryl came up, David Reveman (Compiz developer) really started to communicate with community more actively. He were communicative as an oyster and now he is complaining that people behind Beryl never really tried to work with him. He is serious hypocrite.
    Btw. I really like features in Beryl. And I am happy that Beryl developers doesn't like "GUI fascist" development approach like GNOME developers does. Well, I am KDE user, I generally really like a lot of features and configurability. Call me feature freak if you want, I am proud of it! ;-)
    EDIT: But of course Compiz can be also added to repos, there is nothing bad about it. To each his own.

  • [REQUEST] Unity's/Compiz Modal Dialog plugin

    Hello,
    Would it be possible to get Unity's/Compiz's Modal Dialogs on Arch? I'm not that much of a programmer myself, but to me it seems like you'd have to install Ubuntu's Compiz package. It still is a plugin though, so I got some hope that some of you could still write a PKGBUILD for this. Sorry for not including the dependencies and such, but that is because of the above reason.
    Thanks for your time!

    i would bet that if you wait a while smspillaz (the head developer of Compiz, who works for Canonical now) will probably push this plugin into master (git). probably once he feels that it is stable...
    One example; i first saw the 'grid' plugin's FX (the animated frames) appear in Unity, then a while later it was merged into git/master.
    I'm sure if you mentioned interest either at his blog;
    http://smspillaz.wordpress.com/
    visit his youtube channel, and message/comment about it.
    http://www.youtube.com/user/smSpillaz
    or contact compiz-devs some other way... you could put it out there more directly. i don't think posting in the Arch forums will have any impact at all, on what plugins are pulled from Unity into Compiz. sure someone might make a pkgbuild, but it probably is something that should be done upstream and like i said - this will most likely be added to the master branch, you probably won't even need to get in contact at all.
    if you look at the compiz.org cgit/gitweb logs, you'll see that compiz-devs merge into master/git from other branches all the time. they merge to master from a few branches such as the bzr branch, where this plugin currently is currently living, launchpad ~unity-team, etc.
    http://cgit.compiz.org/compiz/core/log/
    that's my 2 cents, cheerz

  • [SOLVED] Can't start compiz with gnome

    When I set up gnome initially, I used the following wiki guide:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … k_Users.29
    I had some issues after upgrading to gnome 3.8 that have now since been solved.  I wen't through quite a bit trying to fix it and now somehow compiz isn't starting with my gnome/compiz session.  It starts just fine if I run
    $ compiz ccp --replace
    after logging into the session.  I think I'm simply not understanding how this session that I've installed works (or .session files in general).
    here is my /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome-compiz.session:
    [GNOME Session]
    Name=GNOME Compiz
    RequiredComponents=compiz;cairo-dock;gnome-settings-daemon;
    RequiredProviders=notifications;
    DefaultProvider-windowmanager=compiz
    DefaultProvider-notifications=notification-daemon
    I tried removing cairo-dock from the above file just to make sure that this is the file actually being used and it did start up without the dock as I guessed.  Obviously this file is being used.  Why won't compiz start as well?  I also tried adding gnome-panel to the file and gnome-panel did not start.  Is this because it needs a .desktop file as well?  I assume so.
    Here is my /usr/share/xsessions/gnome-compiz.desktop:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Name=GNOME/Compiz
    Comment=This session logs you into the GNOME desktop environment with Compiz and Cairo-Dock
    Exec=/usr/bin/gnome-session --session=gnome-compiz
    Icon=compiz
    Type=XSession
    and here is my /usr/share/applications/compiz.desktop:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Type=Application
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Name=Compiz
    Exec=bash -c 'compiz --replace --sm-client-id $DESKTOP_AUTOSTART_ID --keep-desktop-hints ccp decoration'
    NoDisplay=true
    # name of loadable control center module
    X-GNOME-WMSettingsModule=compiz
    # autostart phase
    X-GNOME-Autostart-Phase=WindowManager
    X-GNOME-Provides=windowmanager
    # name we put on the WM spec check window
    X-GNOME-WMName=compiz
    # back compat only
    X-GnomeWMSettingsLibrary=compiz

    So I started to think that maybe compiz was actually starting up but the ccp argument wasn't taking.  I ran
    $ pgrep -l compiz
    and got no output.  So compiz really isn't starting at all.  What gives?

    Everytime I use compiz-manager, Gnome crashes.

    That's not an option, I don't want to sacrifice video performance for a few effects.
    Also, shouldn't be that way, why a distribution like ArchLinux, one of the best, has this kind of problems with Drivers.

  • [SOLVED] Unexpected compiz behaviors, unworking features

    Hello,
    I recently reinstalled from scratch with the latest iso and installed compiz-bzr from AUR.
    Previously I was using compiz from official repos which is no longer available.
    I tried to set it up the same way but I have a few strange behaviors :
    - Some maximized windows can't be dragged using the decoration (I'm using emerald-git from AUR)
    - As well those undraggable decoration have unworking buttons (top right buttons, minimize, maximize, close)
    To recover from this behavior I need to alt + drag the window so that it gets minimized and then everything is reworking as expected.
    - All the keybindings from General Options (altf + F4, alt + F5, alt + F10, etc) are not working despite they are configured from default
    - In the "Place Windows" plugin there is no "Centered" mode in the "Placement Mode" dropdown.
    If you wonder I'm using xfce4 launched from a tty (startxfce4) and nvidia 325.15-5

    The very first thing i am going to point out; Expect compiz-bzr (0.9.x) to NOT behave exactly the same and/or be missing things from Compiz 0.8.6... it's just a fact; some functionality has been removed and/or is broken, while in other cases you may see improvments..

    1. Emerald is a dead project. The _only_ reason compiz even still has (rough) support for it is because myself and a few others spoke up on a Launchpad/Compiz bug report and convinced them to leave support in for it (since we were using it)... But not all of emerald's features even work anymore in Compiz.... It also looks like emerald-git is pulling from the old compiz site - which is largely unmaintained... Personally, i would recommend NOT using Emerald because of these reasons. I'm pretty sure the Compiz devs would tell you the same thing.
    2. regarding buttons (not working); try using gtk-window-decorator instead and see if the problem presists. (it shouldn't).
    detestable wrote:- All the keybindings from General Options (altf + F4, alt + F5, alt + F10, etc) are not working despite they are configured from default
    ...does not work with Emerald -> But works fine with gtk-window-decorator. NOTE: you might need to change the "modifier key" to be something other than ALT - since some DEs (like Gnome, for example) are using ALT for modifiers in their own apps. (ie: it won't work)... That being said, i am not sure about XFCE, since i use Gnome.
    detestable wrote:- In the "Place Windows" plugin there is no "Centered" mode in the "Placement Mode" dropdown.
    it appears that they have removed that :\  (I'm not sure when, because it used to be there for a long time, throughout compiz-0.9.x development). You could go to lp:compiz and file a bug report on that though - maybe it was an accidental removal?
    ...anyway, i would say that your first step is to get rid of Emerald and make sure that Compiz is working okay (or rather the stuff above that isn't working with Emerald).

  • Compiz-0.9.5.0-dev[solved]

    Hey guys,
    Is anybody of you using compiz-0.9.5.0-core-dev (and all the other components) from AUR with an intel graphic card. Because it is not working for me. This behaviour is strange, because on Ubuntu Natty Narwhal Compiz 0.9.5.0 worked like a charm and compiz-0.8.8 works also. So - maybe it is a bug with intel cards or I´ve made a mistake.
    I´ve been looking forward to hearing from you soon.
    Regards,
    Chris

    rufflove wrote:Natty Narwhal includes Compiz 0.9.4 and I think it unlikely that your problem is hardware related. Are you trying to use the gconf or ini backend? The mass of spam in the comments suggests you're trying to use both simultaneously without loading the settings when calling Compiz from the command line (as explained by hobarrera and stated in the post installation message for the package). To be honest, I'd recommend you use the packages in the official repositories and read the wiki entry for Compiz.
    Hey rufflove,
    Thank you for the information. I´ve installed compiz-0.8.8 from the official repo and it works like a charm. However, I´d like to use the actual compiz (developer version) because it has a better performance on the netbook. Is there any way how I am able to give you more information, so that you can help me to find the bug and eliminate it (e.g. sharing configs,...) ?
    I´ve started compiz using compiz ccp --replace in terminal - after that the desktop was respawn about 100 times and I was able to see any desktop effects (including window borders/decoration).
    I´ve deleted everything in the cache and config folder and now my Default.ini looks like...

    and .config/compiz-1/compizconfig/config
    [general]
    backend = gconf
    profile =
    integration = true
    plugin_list_autosort = true
    As far as I can see, I'm using gconf. So - Maybe its a bug on an intel graphic adapter (Should I contact smspillaz?).
    Thank you for your quick response - I'm glad to talking to you. :-)
    Have a great day,
