Completely Frozen iTouch after 3.1.2 Upgrade

Yeah, I'm not too happy about this. Besides the fact that it wiped everything clean off my iTouch in order to upgrade, it's now frozen.
All the screen simply shows is the Apple Symbol and then a loading bar underneath, which is frozen as well.
When connected to the iTunes store, it will say that it is syncing my iTouch and after that, it says that it is complete and I can now disconnect my iTouch.
Even when I do that, it still shows up frozen. I don't want to reset it, just in case I would have to buy the upgrade again, which would really **** me off.
Anyone else have this problem?

laaaaaaame! I've never had this problem, but sounds like there was just an error in transferring the firmware or bootloader... EITHER WAY you're gonna have to do a restore. You will NOT have to buy it again as the purchase credit is attached to your iTunes account. Just restore in iTunes and if you know where the 3.1.2 upgrade ipsw is (or can obtain from elsewhere) plug into your computer and open iTunes, select your iPod and (on windows SHIFT+CLICK and Mac OS OPT+CLICK) click on restore and it will ask you to locate a file. This just eliminates the need for iTunes to redownload it, which may have caused an intermittent 'stutter' (happens to everyone on any internet connection) and your computer happened to save it wrong... ANYWAY.. good luck , hope this helps!

  • Problems with iTouch after the most recent upgrade

I have been having issues like my iTouch running slower, all my apps open up and then close or if they open up will work for about a minute and then freeze, or some of my wifi apps will say there is not connection to the internet. I have wireless internet at my home and it is on all the time. I am so mad I updated my iTouch. Any one know of a fix to these issues?

I too upgraded my 16GB iPod Touch with IOS 4.0 and have noticed slower response times and Apps crashing back to the main screen. Looking at other postings on this site, the general consensus is that we should not upgrade until Apple resolve the issue. However, this does not help those of us that have already upgraded!
I was considering using the iTunes option of restoring a previous IOS version. So, can anyone else help our friend and confirm whether a IOS downgrade or other solution is advisable?
    Cheers...
P.S. I upgraded my iPhone 3GS and have had no visible issues with IOS 4.0

Music on my iPhone has become very difficult to edit since upgrading to 5.0.1.  If I simply want to delete some songs, it insists on a complete sync cycle after EACH one I delete.  This is so annoying… (I have over 400 Christmas songs I won't need until next year) I have also noticed it randomly keeps updating album artwork…adding more time to each sync.  Is there some way I can turn off the syncing until I have picked and deleted all the songs I want?

The cause was probably a USB glitch during a sync or when copying. The music resides on the phone in separate files. A master file contains a database with an index to the music, an entry for each track and a "pointer" to the file containing the track. Somehow the index got corrupted with duplicate entries. It's likely that the music itself wasn't duplicated, but some tracks had more than one entry in the database. I've seen this happen when syncing (rather than manually managing) also. In my case deleting the track from the Music tab in iTunes, syncing, then adding it back fixed it.
A related problem I've seen is an album may be split, with some tracks in each of 2 or more album entries in the listing. Fixed the same way.

Following Troubleshooting security software will frequently resolve this issue. This issue can be caused by the default packet size being set incorrectly. There may be third-party software installed that modifies the default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize or MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entry into the Registry. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance in adjusting this TcpWindowSize values. Typically the default packet size is modified by 3G cellular network card software, ISP communication software, or Internet speed download optimization software. There are legitimate reasons to change the TCP/IP packet size and not use the Windows default settings (for example, network traffic optimization, home/broadband optimization, enterprise app optimization such as database apps, Exchange, and more). Deleting the "TcpWindowSize" or "GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize" entries in Windows Registry could affect the system's performance with other apps or on their network connections. Deleting the customized TCP/IP settings may require the reinstallation of any third-party applications that had modified the TCP/IP settings from the Windows default settings.
There are two ways to resolve this:
You can follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) , or follow the steps below to manually find and remove TcpWindowSize and MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entries from the Registry.
For Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7: Go to the C:\Windows folder and launch regedit.
    Go to Edit > Find.
Search for "TcpWindowSize" entries. There are typically multiple entries of TcpWindowSize/GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize spread throughout the entire Registry. If "TcpWindowSize" exists, one or more third-party applications have changed the user's default Windows settings for TCP/IP.
Go to File and select Export. This step will export a copy of the Registry that can be used as a backup of the original settings.
    Delete the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
Search for the next "TcpWindowSize" entry and delete each one until the Registry no longer has any "TcpWindowSize" entries.
Close Regedit, restart the PC, and test.
If you are uncertain as to why these registry entries exist and the PC is a business computer, contact your network administrator and determine what values TCP/IP can be set in their Windows Registry setting so that the PC can update or restore an iOS device rather than deleting the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
If editing the registry does not resolve the issue, restoring on a different computer that did not install the communication software is the step most likely to resolve this issue.

  • Error messages after new MobileMe Calendar upgrade. Solved?

Quick rundown of what I've been through and how I have solved my problem.
I have a MacBook running 10.5.6 and I also have Bento 3. Recently Bento (Filemaker) told me that I would have to complete a few steps before upgrading to the new MobileMe calendar. So I followed the steps exactly. (URL: http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7846/~/setting-up-bento-for-th e-new-mobileme-calendar)
After completing the steps. I proceeded to upgrade to the new calendar. Upgraded in less than a minute and then after opening up iCal on my mac & importing my calendars, thats when things started to go wrong. I kept getting error messages on almost every even I have ever created. I could barely even quit iCal due to all the error messages. Also, many of my events werent there after importing and the progress wheel kept spinning. Complete DISASTER! (*Luckily, I made plenty of backups before doing any of this so I was safe*) But Still I had NO iCal!
I searched and searched and could not find a complete solution. So what I did was the following and so far I believe it could be the solution to all of you guys's problems.
I followed these instructions on this website (URL: http://answers.makeitwork.com/how-to-reset-ical-on-your-mac-or-how-to-clean-up-y our-ical/) **I followed these exactly**
    They are below:
+Export any Calendars you wish to retain after you reset by clicking on the Calendar you wish to retain and go to File > Export… > Export…+
+Repeat the above process for every Calendar you wish to keep. (Make sure you remember where you saved them)+
    +Quit out of iCal+
+Go to Finder and click on your Home icon to display the Library folder.+
    +Open that folder+
+Open the Calendars folder in the subsequent window+
+Delete all the contents within that folder+
+NOTE: If you open iCal at this point, it will initially appear that you cleared everything. Within minutes, however, everything will come back.+
+Go to your Utilities folder and open the Terminal application+
+Enter the following command: rm -rf ~/Library/{Caches,Caches/Metadata,Preferences,Application\ Support}/iCal+
    +Exit out of Terminal+
    +Open iCal and…Voila! Brand new iCal!+
But that did not completely work. So before doing this again, I went to my iPhone and quit syncing calendars on my mobile me account. And chose to ERASE every calendar on my iPhone.
After doing that and repeating the process above, I opened up iCal and boom, it worked. Then after I had the calendars setup the way I wanted on my MacBook, I proceeded to go to Preferences>MobileMe>Sync> and then chose to sync
I then went to Me.com and checked to see if the calendar was operable and it was 100%. I could do everything like before. Then I went back to my iPhone and just turned Calendar syncing back on in my mobileme preferences.
This has solved all my problems 100%. Hope this helps someone. Just remember that as long as you created a backup of your Calendar you should be safe.
    -Cody-

Well... seems I didn't have any answer on this. I fiddled a bit more but I have to say that I really came to wits' end at this stage. A couple of observations though:
    * I don't really understand this notion of a keyboard issue. My keyboard and its layout work properly but I will not be able to login regardless of login through GDM, KDM or Slim. Yet it's worth noting that in the case of GDM and SLIM the X server starts; I see the graphical interface, I click, etc. but when I type the trouble starts.
    * I tried to check my xsessions-errors file. The file is really big under a frame buffer, and it wasn't clear to me, but I found strange that the log was reporting all sorts of attempts to start KDE. I don't exactly know what's going on.
If anybody has any clue, let me know... It's becoming very frustrating.
    Thanks!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod Nano, power will come off and on but otherwise is completely frozen,

    Please help!!
I have an ipod nano that is only 3 months old. It has been acting strange. When it first started the clicker wheel wouldn't work and I could reset the nano and it would be good for a single use only. After 2 weeks of that now the only thing it will do is cut on and off. Otherwise, it is completely frozen. I have done all of the things that apple support suggests short of having this chat. Reset doesn't help, I also downloaded all the updates, restarted computer and restored the nano. Still nothing.
    Thanks

If none of those troubleshooting steps helped, it needs service.
You can arrange online service here.

I have a 2009 Macbook Pro with 1T hdd 8GB Ram and ran Maverick without problem...Yosemite installation has me completely frozen, nothing works but the spinning ball...I had to force shutdown last night, and haven't turned it on again...what do you advise?  During installation emptied cache, etc. Backed up using time machine, fortunately.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

You're not alone. I am having similar problems with my Ipod 5th gen 30gb.
When I connect it to my laptop (Vista - basic) it is not recognised by itunes. Itunes simply locks up.
So far I have tried the following to no avail:
Checked my pc's device manager - it recognises the device and says it is functioning properly.
Checked the drivers to make sure they are upt to date.
Uninstalled & reinstalled a previous version of itunes (as it worked fine before the latest release).
    Reinstalled the latest itunes.
    Reset the ipod.
Put the ipod into disk mode and reconnected to itunes.
Have tried to use the windows tool to scan and fix any bad sectors but it fails to complete a scan without locking that up as well.
Placed into disk mode when fully charged and then allowed the battery to drain completely. Then reconnected ipod (in disk mode)and it still is not recognised and locks up itunes.
At this point I dont really want to part with another $300 odd dollars for a new one.

  • Issues after Tiger to SL Upgrade

About 5 months ago I upgraded from Tiger to SL... although Tiger never gave me any issues I wanted to be on the latest version. I have an older MAC so needed to upgrade via the (expensive) Box Set. I did the change via the "upgrade" and not the complete install (erase disk). Since then upgrade my MAC has given me issues... it freezes at times requiring a hard shutdown... other times the graphics do not refresh.. the desktop icons tun into horizontal lines... again requiring a hard shutdown. I ran the Apple hardware test and no errors were identified.
I can not find the common cause... there does not appear to be any common events before the problems. The only key change in the use of the MAC is my wife's use of FACEBOOK games... especially the farming ones... I've installed FireFox for her just for those games as she say's the games don;t work right in Safari (and of course not on the iPad)...
Do I need to do a complete install of SL? Any other suggestions ? Thanks in advance...

DaddyPaycheck, could you please explain why you ask what external peripherals he has attached. I'm not being snarky — I am just curious because I also had random freezing of programs after upgrading to Snow Leopard from Tiger. After a month of trying various fixes, including more than one clean install and taking my computer into a shop (they could not replicate my problem, and my computer passed their diagnostic tests with no issues), I gave up on Snow Leopard and reinstalled Tiger, which runs just fine on my computer.
Anyway, the fact that my computer seemed to run fine on Snow Leopard in the shop made me wonder if my peripherals were the culprit, since they weren't attached when the computer was in the shop. All I have hooked up to my computer is an HP Deskjet F4180 printer and a Lacie external hard drive. BUT, while they are plugged into the USB ports on my iMac, both are ALWAYS turned off unless I'm actually using them. Could simply having these external peripherals plugged into my computer — and not actually being "on" — cause the problem I was having?
I've been monitoring Apple Discussions for a couple of months now, and plenty of people are experiencing graphics-related problems and freezing using Snow Leopard, so it seems the problem goes deeper than just the peripherals. In my own case, I'm guessing my mid-2007 iMac just isn't up to running Snow Leopard despite Apple's insistence it is. I don't know what I would do if it turned out the problem actually is caused by my peripherals. After having already spent a couple of hundred dollars on Snow Leopard and iLife 11 and the computer repair shop, I don't feel like buying a new printer and/or external hard drive just so I can use Snow Leopard. Still, as I said, I'm curious to know what you know about whether peripherals could be causing our problems.
    Thanks.

  • Itouch will not charge since upgraded to 2.0

I have had my itouch 8GB version since April have been charging it via USB port on laptop.
However since upgrading to firmware verson 2.0 the battery life seemed to drain very quickly and now doesnt charge at all.
I have done a restore via itunes , have rebooted the itouch (home and on/off button). Reset all data and settings and set up as a new ipod in itunes but the itouch still only shows as charging with only a thin line of red on the battery even after a few hours.
Wi-fi is off, brightness is minimum and there are no applications running on it.
There doesnt seem to be a way to restore to pre version 2.0? Is this a known problem to be resolved in 2.01?
Is the battery likely to be the problem?(it has previously been ok for hours watching movies and 24 hours on music etc) is usually allowed to run flat and then recharged. So dont think its battery condition and does seem to coincide with the new firmware update.
Thx in advance for any help and suggestions.

I hope someone finds an answer to this problem. I just upgraded to 2.0 a couple of days ago. It took me three full tries at the install to get it to work in the first place and once it was installed it seemed like great software. However, now my battery is in the critical zone and I have been charging it now for 10 hours and it is still in the less the 10% red zone. I have turned mail apps off in case it was constantly searching for data. Then I turned off WIFI to see if that would help. If I can't charge my iTouch then the 2.0 upgrade effectively killed it for me. This must be a bug since I have read other people having the same problem after upgrading their software.

  • IPhone 4s completely frozen

So, since I got my iPhone 4s last December, it sometimes keeps freezing after long phonecalls. It might do it once or twice a month. It wasnt too regular to worry about it as it normally sorted itself out, as I would just wipe the screen clean and lock it and unlock it a few times using the button on the top of the phone and it would unfreeze without any problems.
Tonight though after being on the phone for around 45 minutes, my phone completly freezes and I can't get it unlocked at all. I cant get into my phone to do anything as I can't swipe it to unlock or turn off.
I have tried to reboot (where you press the lock and the home button until you see the apple logo) a number of times and I have even restored my phone to factory settings but neither thing has worked.
My iPhone is completly up to date (ios 6.0.1) as is my iTunes. My phone is just over a year old too, and no other problems with it. No cracks, knicks or scrapes on it either. It's very well looked after. I have done everything as instructed on the support page and have looked through numerous threads and forums but no suggestion has seemed to help or resolve the issue.
Unfortunatly I don't live near any apple store either so genius bar is a last resort for me.
Any help or suggestions would be really appriciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Touch controls completely frozen - iPad

The touch controls of my iPad are completely frozen.
Only the very bottom part of the screen has a very limited sensitivity, and after many tries I can slide unlock the iPad.
The rest of the screen does not respond to any control.
I have already tried both turning the iPad off and on again, and rebooting it by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for a few seconds, but none seems to work.
The only solution I can see is to reset the iPad to its factory settings by following the procedure at Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings .
However, when I connect the iPad to iTunes, iTunes asks me if I trust my own computer, and I am required to answer 'Yes,Trust' by tapping on a popup notification that appears at the center of the iPad screen. Obviously I cannot tap that, since the iPad screen is frozen. This is so dumb...
As a result, I cannot move ahead with the restore procedure.
What should I do to solve this problem?
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Fede

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
