Complicated preloader problem (movie within a movie)
I am using Flash 8 with AS 2.0
I have a 2 scene movie
scene 1 is preloader
scene 2 is main movie
scene 2 has a MC on the mains stage in frame 1. This MC loads
another .swf in frame 40 using hte loadmovie command
I want my preloader to determine when the loadmovie mc in
sceen 2 is loaded or perhaps just load it in scene 1 but into the
MC that holds it in sceen 2.
I can't figure out how to reference the MC that holds my
loaded movie in sceen 2 from scene 1 or how to detect when the
loadmovie in frame 40 of my MC is loaded.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Understood. I actually found a post from someone saying
scenes are not the way to go. I moved the bulk of my movie to frame
5 and put my preloader on frame 1. I am also loading my .swf into
my MC on frame 1. What I guess I need to do is set up a listener on
my MovieCliLoader to tell when that is done (since it is larger
than my movie I can wait until t is loaded to move on.).

Interactive movies within interactive movies
I have been creating a gallery for a client that changes preview images in response to thumbnail images being clicked, I have the basics working but now my client wants further interaction in some of the previews that include using buttons on the preview images that either open a web page in a new window or switch between more preview images. The problem is the new buttons that appear are embedded on the initial preview images (which are set as movies), and for some reason the interaction that has been added to these movies is stopped when run in another movie. Sorry if that sounds complicated!

If you look at the gallery here and click on the item titled VIACOM, a window will open On the bottom left hand side of the window you will see 4 thumbnail boxes that switch between the preview images on the right. The second preview image has the numbers 1 to 4 on the bottom of it. These numbers are buttons and are set to switch to more preview images, but sadly it's not working.

Loading a movie within a movie
Hello! I am trying to figure out the proper code for my
button which should unload a movie and then call an external swf to
load within a specific frame of yet another movie clip. Hope that
made sense. In other words... I want the new clip to load at a
specific frame and play the movie that is on that frame.
CODE I HAVE SO FAR:
on (release) {
removeMovieClip(design.swf);
on (release) {
loadMovie("index.swf",0);
gotoAndPlay('shop');
I know this isn't right, however it's the best I could come
up with on my own.

Controlling a Movie within a Movie
Hi everyone,
I have a captivate movie (movie A) into which I would like to
insert another animation (movie B) with the Insert > Animation
command. This works fine. However, I would like the playback
control of movie A to also control the playback of movie B. Is this
possible? Othewise, I would have to have two playback controls
which is very confusing for the user. I have seen a Captivate
example where this seems to function correctly, but I cannot figure
out how it was done.

Can you tell us where you saw the movie you did? To my
knowledge, there is no way to do this. At least, not using
Captivate without bringing Flash or Swish into the picture.

Stopping Audio in movie within movie..?
hello,
If I create a captivate movie called XYZ, (series of slides,
and/or full motion capture) add narration to it, publish it to swf
format, and then create a new captivate movie called ABC which uses
that swf on one of it's slides (i.e. a movie within a movie), how
do I create buttons in ABC which will stop the audio of XYZ in case
the learner wants to go to the next slide before XYZ finishes???
Also, why does a wav file created in Audacity, and
normalized, sound distorted in captivate? Is there a way around it,
besides lowering the volume of my Audacity wav file?

It doesn't - at least on all machines. Perhaps
you are seeing the problem because of the file-format you are
saving to (in Audacity). Can you describe what you mean by "sound
distorted"? Your reference to lowering the volume indicates it is
not necessarily being distorted, but being amplified excessively
after import to Captivate . . .
If that is the case, it seems to me that the simplest
solution is exactly what you already suggested - lower the
amplitude in Audacity . . . -

I have Weblogic 6.1 cluster running on Solaris. When I start the Admin
server some times I'm getting this following error. This is not
happening all time. I have noticed this problem during these following
cases:
1. When I forcefully stop the server by kill the service
2. If I try to start the server immediately after shutdown.
I would appreciate If some can tell me why does this happen?

Problems coding a button within a movie clip to navigate scenes
Hello there! I've got another probably noobish question to ask about CS6.
My goal is very similar to the one mentioned in this previously discussed forum question: http://forums.adobe.com/message/837995#837995 and also in this question http://forums.adobe.com/message/4172919#4172919
I am attempting to make a button inside a movie clip in my first scene go when clicked to the first frame of my second scene. I named the button's instance menu_button_1 and I believe Scene 1 and Scene 2 are the names of the scenes. (If they should have special names or instance names, I did not see where to type them.) Because of the similarities, I attempted to follow the suggestions on those pages. However I probably did some small thing wrong, (Or heck, maybe a huge thing.) which I what I'd like help with to find.

This seemed to be what was suggested to enter. I attempted to modify it to work for me as well. This is what I typed for the button's action.

I tried variations, including "2" instead of "scene 2" and whatnot. I also tried linking it to differnet places just to see if that would work. It seems like it could link if I only asked for a frame within the movie clip itself, but it couldn't go to any other frames in scene 1 or scene 2. When I attempt, this message is displayed in the output:

It seems it cannot find my Scene 2. (It also cannot seem to find Scene 1 when I prompt it to do that.) Making Button links within a movie clip
I am attempting to learn more Flash in general and
actionscript in particular. I have created a flash piece that
consists of 4 buttons within a movie clip that is being masked by
another movie clip. One movie is the set of 4 buttons. The other
movie is a "spotlight" that moves with the cursor. As the spotlight
shines on each button, the button's text changes color and is "lit
up".The Over state of each button is set to cause the button to
change color. When I put a keyframe in the Down state of each
button in order to add actionscript to create the action that makes
the button clickable to take the viewer to a web page, it tells me
that no actions can be given to this Down state. If I try using
Behaviors to accomplish the same thing, it tells me that Behaviors
are not supported. If I put actionscript into the actions layer of
the timeline, it does not do the required action, i.e. clicking on
the buttons leads nowhere. I have tried moving the actionscript
before, between, and after the setInterval and setMasker
actionscript that controls the interaction between the two movie
clips (which work perfectly). I have tried inserting an actions
layer into the button movie clip--same result--nothing. I have
tried putting the actionscript in the second frame of the actions
layer (both in the main timeline and in the movie clip), all to no
avail. I did give each button an instance name and used them in the
actionscript.
Here is the actionscript I am using for one of the buttons:

I do not get an error message with this actionscript. I just
don't get sent to the web page. I am using Flash 8.
What else I should be doing? Is this a problem because the

mc identified as ( book ). one more thing: you must target your mc

Why do I get "not connected to Internet " when I try to move within a website?
I am using Verizon hotspot to connect my laptop with internet. Never had problems until IOS 8 came out. My laptop is XP but I don't want a new computer yet! Since I downloaded 8 on my phone my laptop does not work properly! I can get on various websites, but when I try to move within the website I receive on a large screen "no internet connection" but I am still connected to the internet. When I use my computer on a free wifi service I don't have this problem. What is going on? Help Me Please!!!

Preloader based on a single movie clip
Is there a way to have a pre-loader based on a single movie clip, instead of on the entire SWF size? This movie clip may have a single graphic, but the entire movie has a slideshow with more images to display...but rather than making my visitor wait for the entire site to download before they see anything, I'd like to have it so when that graphic is loaded, it displays while the rest of the movie finishes loading. And there would be a preloader that shows the progression of the single movie clip.

I have an FLA file that contains everything within it. The background image for the resulting SWF is a single JPG, contained within a movie clip with an instance name of "bg_mc". However, there are a lot of other images that also need to be loaded. So, I want the loader to show progress ONLY on the background JPG image, and when it's downloaded, the image is shown, the rest of the SWF continues to download, and when the SWF is completely loaded, the images appear. So the user is only waiting on the background image to load before they see something instead of having to wait for all images to load. Does that make sense?

Green screen when playing any Quicktime movie within a browser
With all the latest Apple updates installed, I now see only a blank green screen when playing any Quicktime movie within any browser, Safari or Firefox. Audio is fine, but the video shows just a key frame initially then goes blank green when it starts playing. If I download the movie, it will play fine in Quicktime Player. This applies to any Quicktime movie, on the Apple site or any other site. But, streaming movies that are .wmv files play fine, thru the Flip4Mac plug-in. On my older G4 Powerbook, with 10.5.7 and the latest Safari and Quicktime. there are no problems. And until recently the Intel Macbook was fine, too. But something that was installed has messed up Quicktime in some fashion so it no longer plays streaming Quicktime movies in a browser. Do I need to remove and re-install some component? Downgrade to an earlier version? I recently installed CS4 and the latest Canon digital imaging software that comes with their cameras. Might any of these have messed up how Quicktime works? -- Alan

I logged out then back in a Guest User with minimal access, ran Safari and streaming movies still would NOT play in browsers.
I then logged back in as me, with Admin access, and ran Disk Utility to first: Verify the Disk -- all was OK.
Then did a Permissions repair. And these were the permissions needing repair, below: A lot of them! And many pertaining to Quicktime. Unfortunately, doing this made no effect. Still no improvement. And running the Permissions Repair again produced the identical list of repairs. It says they have been repaired but not so, apparently.
I thought this must be the issue. But then I did the same thing with my older G4 Laptop (but also has the latest OS 10.5.7, Safari 4.02 and Quicktime 7.6.2 and other Apple updates, albeit for Powermacs not Intel), and which has minimal applications on it (it serves as a media server for the stereo) and it plays movies fine. But ... doing a Permissions Repair on it produced a similar list and they also would not repair (doing a Repair again a second time produced the same list). Yet it plays movies fine. So I'm stumped.
a) why are the laptops refusing to repair their permissions?
b) and might this be the problem on the Intel machine.
Is the answer removing Safari and installing an earlier version (I have a stand-along installer for v.4) and/or doing the same with Quicktime (I have 7.6).

I am having problems downloading 2 purchased movies. Cars 2 & Toy Story. I had it on My iPad, then after a while the movies would not play. I went to the apple store and they deleted it and told me that all I need to do is download it again. I tried what they suggested at the apple store, but I am still not successful. It continues to tell me there is a download error. Please help! Need these movies for my 3 year old!User to user forum.

Could you confirm your "image Capture" settings? How did you set the "Import to" pop-up?
Make sure you import to a folder on your Desktop, and not into iPhoto.
This way you can be sure, that no problem with the iPhoto library will interfere.
Once you have the image files in a folder on the Desktop, test them by opening them and then import them to iPhoto.
Is there a problem with posting answers for you? I notice, you keep creating new discussions for follow-up questions and answers. That makes it hard see all answers in context.

Movie within Keynote, export to quicktime transition delay
I have a very strange problem I can't seem to figure out. I create a Keynote presentation every week that is used to show our announcements at our church. I create the keynote with automatic advancement, then export it to a quicktime movie (which is then put on an iPod and used to project at church). It wall works very well and I have used this for several years. Here's my problem:
I inserted a movie into a slide in Keynote, the movie is about 30 seconds long and I am playing about 10 to 15 seconds of it. I then have the slide transition to another slide. When I play the keynote it all seems to work great - however, when I export the movie via quicktime, it plays through the movie then hangs for 10 seconds or so at the end of the movie before making the transition to the next slide. It is apparently "stuck" for that time. I have played around with every setting I could find to see if I could get it to work right but nothing changed this behavior. I tried shortening the movie length under the quicktime tab in the inspector, changing the delay in the slide tab in the inspector, nothing.
To make matters worse I apparently can't just cut out the 10 seconds of offending material via quicktime pro as it somehow only registers by the slide number and I cannot get the index arrow to pick a portion of the movie to splice.
Its all very frustrating - I've spent about 3 hours on this silly thing this evening telling myself "it can't be this hard." But either I am really missing the obvious, or there is a bug in Keynote, or this just can't be done.
BTW I am using Keynote 09.
Any help would be very appreciated. For tonight I've given up on the movie and just cut that part out.
thanks.You've found one of my frustrations...here's the way it works:
In keynote, you MUST set the slide delay for a movie to stay on screen, and you can see that you're able to transition before the movie is done by cutting the delay shorter than the movie. The draw back is, if you want the whole movie to play, you MUST set the delay to at least the same length as the movie.
When exporting to QT, this doesn't work. The export forces the movie to play in its entirety. If you weren't trying to cut the movie short, you'd still have to remove your auto advance delay so that it transitions after the movie plays. This is why you're seeing that long hold, it's counting your movie length AND the delay time you added in Keynote.
The only thing I can suggest is removing that transition delay and living with the movie playing through to the end. You could always trim the movie in QT Pro and use that in Keynote I suppose.
