Component output A/V settings

I am attempting to capture footage from a Sony DSR 80 using component inputs. I had the A/V settings in FCP a few weeks ago but forgot to create an Easy Setup for it and now I can't remember the settings I made. Could someone please provide me with the settings for such a setup. Many thanks.

As David implies, do you have a capture card in your machine? Why not use the easy setup for that?

  • PAL NTSC Switching of Component Output

    Hi,
I just purchased a ATV in the US an brought it back to Europe where I am hocking it up to an older TV using the component otput. The cabeling is correct and I am not using a composite entry nore cable.
The problem however is that the picture only apears in Black and White. I assume this is because the ATV is set to NTSC on its component output. Does anyone know how to switch the component output to PAL 50HZ ?
    Regards

Your symptoms are consistent with plugging into an RGB connector (as you have pointed out).
I'm a little confused though as to exactly what you tried. What I meant when I said swap the cables over was to use (for example) the green cable in place of the blue, ie plug it into the blue connectors at both ends rather than just one.
On a component system the green is used for brightness (luma), the blue for the difference between luma and blue and red the difference between luma and red. On an RGB system the three connectors are used for each colour and the signal to each is a similar signal to the luma in component. This explains why an RGB system understands the signal over the green cable and not the others and results in a green picture.
If you plug the green cable into the red connector on an RGB system (keeping it plugged into the green at the other end) what you might get is a red picture, but this isn't certain since on a 3 connection RGB system (there are 4 and 5 connection systems) the green cable also carries the sync signal and you might get a rolling red picture or no picture at all.
With this in mind you should be able to detrmine if you have A) RGB connectors on your TV or B) damaged red and blue cables or C) a defective tv.

  • How do I get a component output cable for my X1300 Pro?

    Hi,
I just purchased a shiny new X1300 Pro for connecting to my home theater, but unfortunately although it lists HDTV out, it didn't ship with the cables. The New Zealand supplier was unable to assist - is there anywhere I can purchase this cable from that will ship overseas to (New Zealand), or failing that, is there a pin-out so I can make my own cable?
Any help would be greatly appreciated - I specifically bought this card for its component output capabilities.
    Cheers,
    Josh

I suggest you refer to  MSI directly. They should know where you could buy the cables or maybe they could provide the pin-out for you.

Make sure you have both intel firmware updates off of apple. Also please make sure that you have the latest Bmagic too http://www.blackmagic-design.com/downloads/software/MultibridgeMacintosh5.8.zip
I had TONS of crashes on my macpro prior to the firmware updates, afterwards rock solid performance. I still get the jumpiness between FCP and the desktop etc but that is to be expected.

  • Component output/conversion?

I'm strongly considering getting an Apple TV for use as an HTPC, and the biggest problem I've run into is that my TV only supports component as the highest resolution input.
What is the best/least expensive way to convert it from HDMI/mini display to component, or is it even possible at all?
    Thanks!

You may try the program called iFunia Video Converter Pro which, I think, perfect suits you. It has a category specifically designed for the output formats compatible with Apple TV. You may try it out and see whether it works for you. Good luck...

  • Trouble with Component output

I have had my Apple TV for about a year and have been using the HDMI connection without any trouble. I am now switching to the component cable since I need the HDMI port on the TV for my Blue Ray player.
My problem is there does not appear to be a signal coming through the component cables. My TV's component input accepts 480p/720p/1080i signals and I assume the apple TV must provide a signal that would be compatible with one of those.
I plugged the component cables into the TV and Apple TV, and then unplugged the power to reset the Apple TV, hoping it would recognize the component cables, but still no luck. My TV is a Samsung rear projection LCD if that helps.
Any advice on what might be causing the problems?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
When the tv detects a display connected by HDMI it only shows you the resolutions that the display supports. However when connected by component it shows all the output resolutions, you will have to select one that suits your display.
It may be that your tv is still trying to output at the resolution it was when you had the HDMI cable plugged it and you simply get a blank screen. In which case hold down the menu and '+' buttons together for 6 seconds and cycle through the resolutions using the '+' or '-' buttons ,allow a little time at each resolution for it to establish itself.

  • HT3209 Component Output Quality?

What is the video quality for a iPod touch (4th Gen.) if you connect it to a TV using a Component Cable? The Digital AV Adapter can output 720 at its highest...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4108
    Here is a little info
"Video mirroring and video out support: Up to 1080p with Apple Digital AV Adapter or Apple VGA Adapter (cables sold separately)"
In any case, all of the A4/A5-based iOS devices can (unofficially) decode 1080p video but for quality results you do need the iPad 2 (the iPhone 4, 4th generation iPod touch, and the original iPad can decode some 1080p sources but you may see dropped frames or stuttering on those "lesser" devices).
As for creating 1080p content you can use whatever tools you want (just select 1920x1080 as the dimensions, use an H.264 codec, and restrict the bitrate to something between 4 to 10Mbps -- you may need to experiment with the latter to find the best results). However, you MIGHT need a third-party app to actually transfer and play that content on your iPad since iTunes MAY not allow you to directly sync that file to your iPad (because it exceeds the "official" spec).

I did the following to solve ALL problems I had with crashes, file reading errors, AJA video preview, switching to other software etc.
(@Todd: refering to the other blog, all these problems are solved as well! I work with QT movies and MXF.)
    – Deleted all DVCpro components
    – Reset PRAM
    – Repaired Permissions in Safe Mode
    – Deleted AE prefs when starting AE
Now I can switch and play around like I always did.
And even my AJA output stays there when getting back to AE.

  • Capture Xbox 360 component output to iMovie?

I would like to be able to capture output from component devices such as my Xbox 360 in the best possible quality on my Mac. Is this possible? What sort of hardware would I need (and how much does it cost)?
Anyone know what companies like Gamespot or IGN use for their "direct feeds"? I won't assume they use Macs, but the hardware they use might be Mac-compatible.

Hi, I am currently in the process of doing that exact same thing. However, I have some disappointing news.
It is possible to record gameplay from a 360, however it will be recorded straight into a Muxed MPEG2 file. Also you will be required to purchase two pieces of electronic equipment.
The first is Elgato EyeTv 250, which comes with EyeTV 2 software (200$ with the software included). The second piece you will need is a composite video splitter, I have the CELab AV400, which costs around 60-70 dollars but works great. Make sure that whatever video splitter you use has a true 1:1 ratio with no signal loss.
Now, plug your Xbox 360, or whatever device you are using into your splitter, and then run A/V cables to your TV and to the EyeTV 250 reciever. You can plug your 360 straight into the EyeTV but due to the time it takes to compress the streaming video into MPEG format, their is a noticable delay in the image, making real time play impossible, thus the need for the splitter.
Finally, once you have recorded your gameplay, you have to convert the Muxed MPEG2 into a .dv file. Strictly because iMovie will not recognize Muxed MPEG2 or any MPEG for that matter. Also, downloading the plug-in for Quicktime that allows it to play MPEG files WILL NOT make iMovie recognize these types of files. I personally use DropDV, but the unregistered version will place large watermarks on the video feed, the registered version costs $40.
If you need me to make a more detailed description just let me know.
    Hope I provided some help.

  • Any way to get component output from the DVI?

I know that there is the DVI-to-video connector which does composite and Svideo. I have read that the ATI DVI-to-component adaptor doesn't work with the X1600 on the MacBook Pro. Has anyone found a solution for outputting component other than an expensive transcoder?
I'll probably end up buying the regulard composite/Svideo adaptor but I'd like to see if there's anything better since I do have an HDTV.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I actually have an HDTV which does DVI, though unfortunately I have overscan issues. Though this may be a function of my graphics card as much as my HDTV. Anyway, you might want to try this adapter:

  • R3450-TD256H HD Component Output

I have the MSI ATI R3450-TD256H video card which came with an s-video to component cord.  When I connect it to my TV I get signal from the Y (green) output and the Pr (red) output.  The Pb (blue) does not have any output.  This causes the Screen to have a very green tent.
I have been able to adjust the red and green color levels in the Catalyst Control Center but the blue adjustments do not seem to cause any noticeable changes.
I have ruled out the TV and cords since they work perfectly when I connect my DVD player through the component inputs.  I also have tried every driver on the MSI and ATI websites that I could find associated with my video card.
    Any suggestions on a fix?

I never found the answer to why my video card would come with the connection shown below and not support it.  After trying MSI and ATI user support who both told me that only s-video plugs into s-video connectors.  That is correct in its statement but not in the understanding of the question "why send a connector that cannot be used".  More digging showed that the card does not support the connector at all.
My solution, switch to a nvidia 8400 GTS made by the Jaton Corporation.  It has all the outputs I needed and more.  Plus it worked without any setup at all.  Just plugged into the TV and magically everything was great.  I love when that happens.

  • Media Live - Component Output Only Working in Safe Mode

Running Vista Ultimate (64-bit), plugged in to an SDTV.
I installed the latest nforce and geforce drivers for the system (while using composite output). Then I shutdown the computer, unplugged the composite and plugged in the component. When booting up, I can see the bios post, and the Windows loading screen (black screen with green progress bar at bottom), but then it just goes blank like it's not receiving a signal from the component. If I boot in to safe mode, it works fine. So I used the composite to change the video resolution to the same one that safe mode uses (800x600), but still not luck. Also tried the Safe Mode in 640x480 option, but that doesn't work either.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
If the problem involves a hardware component that is only needed for "enhanced" performance (like fancy graphics) and which is called upon by a particular system kernel extension that does not load during a Safe Boot, then as a workaround you might be able to find that extension file and remove it. That might let you boot normally without crashing. You wouldn't have the "enhanced" functionality controlled by the bad component, but the hope would be that you would then be able to maintain other features which would be disabled by a Safe Boot.
    See this outside thread:
*Use wireless networking in safe boot mode*
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080629044753419
    It includes the following tip:
Safe Boot doesn't let some extensions load, which activate specific extended functions of various chips, including some function controlled by circuitry that's damaged in your friend's Powerbook. The "troublemaking" extension may be one of the ATI extensions at System/Library/Extensions; when it loads, it encounters an unexpected hardware fault, which prevents OS X startup from proceeding. So, if you want to start up the Powerbook without turning off all the extensions that Safe Boot mode turns off, use a process of elimination to find the specific extension that's causing the trouble, and move it out of System/Library/Extensions--first drag one of them out, restart, see if the problem still exists, and if it does, restart in Safe Boot mode, drag the next ATI extension out, restart, etc. Once you've found the troublemaker, drag the other extensions you removed, back into System/Library/Extensions, then repair permissions (since moving extensions out of, then back into, this location will mess up their permissions).
