Compression / UnCompression of Files

I am using Java Swing as Front end and Visual FoxPro as Database.
In an application, i need to back up the database files. I need the compressed back up ie the files to be compressed as Winzip by the Java itself and can be stored in Floppy. Later during Restore, the application should automatically UnZip that and copy files into the Respective folder in HardDisc.
I had tried with java.util.ZipInputStream and
ZipOutputStream
GZIPInputStream
GZIPOutputStream
It is compressing but How to Extract the files from that.
Please give me some elaborate Clues.
Please give me a solution asap.

At
coldatags Suite

there is a tag which is helpful in
making GZIP and then uncompress it .
U can see it.
i m sure that it will help u.

  • Poor image quality for uncompressed .jpg files

    Hello,
I am importing in uncompressed .jpg files that I have made
smaller in Photoshop, but didn't modify compression. This is the
original format at they are stock photos. My project preferences
for jpg files are set to 100. When I import them and publish my
project, the image quality is sub- standard where areas of the
    picture are blurry and fadded.
Since the images started as jpg files, recompressing them or
saving them as bmp files which Captivate likes, is not an option.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Rick,
I didn't notice the slide property dialog that is set to
default to Standard. This should help. thanks.
By the way, I am still having major problems with the issue I
emailed you directly last week with all the attachment files. I
know you are busy, but if you have time to revisit, I'd appreciate
it. I don' t have a solution and need to deliver next week.

  • Add option for lossless uncompressed RAW files for A7r

I'd like to see the option for lossless, uncompressed RAW files for those of us who want it vs. the current situation of only having the option of lossy compressed RAW files (which in some instances, can exhibit posterization). I think this is a logical option for a camera of the A7r's calibre. If this option can be incorporated via firmware update, all the better. If it's a hardware issue, hopefully this is addressed in the next iteration of the camera.

Honestly, this is pretty deceitful marketting on both the Sony A7 and A7R literature. both promote the use of 14 bit RAW encoding as a feature of the two sony cameras, however, they are really 11 bit + 7 bit compressed lossly RAW formats, delivering no where close to the same tonality of 14 bit true RAW. in no sony literature that i could find, is it mentioned that it's lossly. this is accurate?  Not even close.  14-bit RAW output for rich tonal gradation 14-bit RAW image data of extremely high quality is outputted by the a7. This data fully preserves the rich detail generated by the image sensor during the 14-bit A/D conversion process. When developed with Sony's Image Data Converter RAW development software, these images deliver the superb photographic expression and rich gradation that only 14-bit data can offer.  I was going to purchase two A7R bodies and move my canon gear over to Sony ..until really all this came out.  I'm hoping as well as the OP that a firmware upgrade comes out.

  • Uncompressing .Z files

Has anyone had any luck uncompressing .Z files (Old UNIX compression format)?  Here is what I've tried:
http://www.ni.com/example/28662/en/  - which is LV5... I wasn't sure this was the right solution anyway.
OpenG ZLib - Can't get it to open a .Z file.  Returns "Not Found" which makes me think it doesn't support .Z files.  Documentation on that library is sparse.
Base zlib DLL (http://www.zlib.net/) - Looks like it might work, but "Import -> DLL" seems to crash LabVIEW every time. I'd have to go through the .h files manually and figure out what parameters need to be fed in to the function calls.  I could do this, but...  I'm hoping somoene has done this before and has a canned solution before I spend 3 hours rummaging through header files
    Thanks!

That was the other program I have done the sytem exec with.  7Zip is so much better.
One possible way around your issue is to just include the 7zip executable with your program.  It can just sit right there inside your support directory and IT needs to know nothing about it.  No installing it.  Just copying the latest executable into your project.  I have not tried that myself (my IT loves 7zip), but I have been told that it works.

  • Could someone uncompress a file for me?

I need the firmware update for version 1.1 for a wrt54g wireless router. Could someone uncompress it for me and email to it me if the file isn't too large. Say under 10mg. I will post my email if someone can do that. I have Stuffit and apparently that won't work. Thanks for your help

Why dont you download winzip, or winrar, or any other compress/uncompress software and extract firmware. It would save much time.

  • Converting uncompressed AVI files for FCP?

I recently had 30 reels of old 8mm film footage from the 50's and 60's converted to digital and I now have a hard drive with all of the footage converted to uncompressed AVI files.  These are extremley large files as one 2 minute and 38 second clip is 4.45 gigs.
I want to bring them into Final Cut Pro to edit them but retain as much quality and picture as I can.  I am going to use Mpeg Streamclip to convert the AVI files to quicktime Mov. files but what compression setting and frame size should I use when converting them to Mov. files for best results?  As far as frame size, should I use 648 X 486 4:3 aspect ratio or 720 X 486 unscaled?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Given the material, standard ProRes or even ProRes LT (if you have FCP v7) is fine.
ProRes HQ is intended for 35mm film out and/or 2k video. It is a waste of file space and processing overhead for your purposes.

  • Zip/Compress a folder/file

    Hi
    recently i've try to Zip/Compress a folder...but funny...the folder is 15GB after compress...it still 15GB...haaa...
    Any problem?need helps..

But why i need the compress or Zip...that's because i need to backup my projects and files into DVDR.If,i do a compression on Video such as H.264 Quality to Low and Frame Rate 15...it'll be small the file...but it can't be use for Hi Quality project anymore...do you get what i wish?haaa...
The problem is H.264 goes way beyond Zip in compression. Since you already applied H.264, there isn't anything else that Zip can do.
If you want to preserve the quality, the only solution is to have big enough disks.
I don't know whether my concept is on the track or not?!haaa...But i think it work..cause,sometimes we need to send file throught internet and we need to Zip it for email or transfering purpose..am i right?
Probably not. When you send a document like a Word file, the text is not already compressed. There are still many patterns that can be condensed and spaces that can be closed up. When you zip that document, it can take advantage of all those opportunities for compression, and the file size goes down.
But again, your H.264 files are already much smaller than uncompressed video. It's already crammed together as far as it will go unless you want to lose more quality. Therefore Zip cannot do anything more, and the file size stays the same.

  • Compressing Existing Quicktime Files

Hi. I have an 18.7 GB Quicktime movie that's about a hour and a half long, and I need to cut it down to a :30 second promo. The problem is, that big file plays wildly out of sync once it's imported into Final Cut Pro. I've been told it's my drive speed. So, is there a way to compress the huge file into something my drive speed can handle, cut the spot, then uncompress it to it's final delivery size?
By the way, I'm really new to Final Cut, so if this is basic--apologies--but, please show me the way!!
    Thanks in advance!

My questions were asked so that I could get a sense of what your setup was. If you're delivering a product for broadcast, then an external broadcast monitor is a must. Also, it is never wise to use your system drive as your scratch disk, especially in a laptop, and with files the size that you're using.
If you think about it, that disk is having to run your Operating System, any open applications, Final Cut Pro, and what ever source files and effects that you have on your timeline. That's a lot of work for one drive, which could explain why you're having sync problems once you bring that file into Final Cut Pro.
I would highly recommend getting at least a FireWire 800 external drive to use as your scratch drive. Specific discussions regarding different external drives can be found here.
Since we're talking specifics here. What specific format is this original Quicktime file?

  • What does Safari do when it uncompresses a file?

I'm using Safari 4.0.3 on a MacBook. Recently, a colleague said that a file on our public website was corrupted, so I tried downloading the file to see for myself. Safari downloaded the file, which had a .gz extension, and then quietly uncompressed the file, just as it should do.
But when I download the file and then run gunzip on it in the Terminal, I get an error message: "invalid compressed data--crc error." This is the problem that my colleague reported.
I'm puzzled. Either (a) Safari has some other way to uncompress this file, which works; or more likely (b) Safari is uncompressing the file incorrectly, and neither detecting nor reporting the problem. That would be bad.
I've been looking through the logs to try to find some evidence for what Safari is actually doing when it uncompresses the file, and I can't find anything. What's going on?
You can get the file from my company's public website and experiment for yourself. The file is at http://www.itasoftware.com/careers/puzzles/bitvectors-genes.data.gz I don't expect you to diagnose the problem with the file--we can fix that easily enough. I just want to know what Safari is hiding from me.

That's a warning from the Chrome browser. If you're sure that you downloaded the file directly from Microsoft, and not from any other website, you can ignore it.

  • Problems with large frame uncompressed AVI files in QT 7 player

I have just recently gone from QT Pro 6.5.2 to QT Pro 7, mainly because of the HD support.
I have a dual boot system with QT 7 on Windows 2000, and QT 6 on Windows 98SE.
I am having problems playing uncompressed AVI files in the QT 7 player, apparently if the frame size is large (in the example case 688 x 516).
Sometimes I just get "error 108 unknown error" pop up when I try to load the file. Sometimes the file loads but will not play except in short bursts of movement every now and again as it moves along the timeline. Sometimes the file plays, but with one or more broad black lines across the image!
All the problem files play perfectly in QT 6.5.2, but will not play in QT 7, which should surely play them better, not worse!
Can anyone make any suggestion as to what's happening?
I've uninstalled and reinstalled QT 7, which made no difference. I'm sure I don't need any extra codecs, as QT has always played RAW AVIs without anything extra before.
    Thanks in anticipation, Dave.

  • Adobe Acrobat X Pro ZIP Compression Creates Larger Files

    Hello,
I made a flyer in InDesign CS 6 which contains a fairly complicated vector image made with Illustrator. When I export to PDF, InDesign creates a file of the size of 26 MB (ish). I then run preflight in Acrobat which finds that the vector image isn't compressed.
Note that my PDF settings in InDesign are set to bicubic subsampling for colour images that are above 450 px and JPG compression.
When I tell Acrobat to apply fixes, it tries to apply ZIP compression but the file size is then 38 MB. Could anyone shed light on this for me please? There is obviously something basic about vector images and compression that I am missing.
It also finds elements that are completely off the board, although I didn't put anything there with InDesign.

Test Screen Name: After seeing your response I run a little test. I made a PDF straight from Illustrator just using that image then preflighted it and I got the same error.
I then opened that same PDF in Illustrator, a lot of that artwork was turned into images. I think it's the transparency flattener as I am converting to PDF/X-1A with compatibility for Acrobat 4 (which I should have probably mentioned in the first post but I didn't make the connection between the two). As far as I understand the transparency flattener converts an image into a mix of paths and rasters (according to Adobe's own help files.)
Preset used for preflight is sheetfed offset CMYK btw.

I need to compress an InDesign file to web-quality pdf but file size is still too big. Help!

    Hi Bill,
It sounds like your document has a lot of pages and/or images in it.
Instead of using the normal InDesign > Export command to create a PDF, you may be able to reduce the file size by printing to a PostScript file, then distilling it to PDF using Acrobat Distiller.
