Compromised Skype Account

Someone has stolen my Skype account. They comprimised my email and changed the password of my Skype account. I got my email back but now it wont let me reset my Skype for some reason. Can someone please help me. I need the skype for buisness and personal reasons and im leaving for vacation soon so I need it before then.

No suggestions then? Been trying to look for a way to contact Skype, but no joy. - Seems like I will most likely lose my business Skype account and all contacts. Bloody typical.
I can't understand how I created an account with my business email, and then when I entered the email address in can't access area box, receive the email and click link to get the error:
"Sorry, we couldn't find an existing Skype account for you. Please contact customer support for more help."
Pissed off and frustrated. Bit rubbish really for a big company.

  • Skype Account contact list and skype name changed

    Hi!
I have been actively using my skype account again lately and one time last week when I signed in, I just cannot. My username and password are correct. And so what I did was to reset my password. I was able to reset my password through my email and when I signed in to Skype, I found out that my skype account was "hacked", I think. My skype name, profile photo and contact list changed into somebody else's account.
I just want to ask what has happened to my account? Why did that happened? The username and contact list that appears to my account, I think, was leggit and not an act  of hacking. Could it be possibly that our accounts switched?

Hi, DaisyrieDumali, and welcome to the Community,
Your report reads to me like your account was compromised (hacked).  If you still have control of it, sign on to the account dashboard and change your account's registered e-mail address to something else, and then change the password.
Also, as a proactive measure, ensure your computer's software and patches are updated, and run your preferred anti-virus/malware/spyware program using the most recent virus signature files available.
If you have lost access to your account, you may need to create a new account to use so you can contact Skype Customer Service in order to recover the first account.  Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
Skype is aware of lingering problems with the website when contacting their customer service agents. If you experience difficulty reaching Skype Customer Service or find yourself redirected back to the Community, please try again using a different web browser and choosing a different path through the various drop-down menu options presented. Also, look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also block reaching an agent.
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • Skype Account HACKED

I have had someone gain unauthorized access to my Skype account.  This is insane, because I knew I was being targeted by a hacker, and went to ehosts Live Support to tell them.  I also told them NEVER TO CHANGE THE REGISTERED EMAIL ON MY ACCOUNT.  They said they made a note on my account and that they would not change the email, no matter who came into their live support.
Here I am today, and what did Skype support do?  They CHANGED THE REGISTERED EMAIL FOR THE HACKER.  He did NOT HAVE ACCESS TO MY EMAIL ACCOUNT.  YET, YOU STILL CHANGED IT FOR HIM??  Skype is an absolute JOKE.  This service is absolutely garbage.  You should be ashamed of the horrible security.
    My account =---
    My registration email = ---
This email was completely secret.  This means that the hacker had no way of knowing my email address (unless one of your retarded agents told him the address).  My passwords are secure, my email is secure.  The only thing that is compromised is my Skype account, because Skype allowed someone to change the email on my account WITH MINIMAL INFORMATION ABOUT MY ACCOUNT.
He is now costing my business hundreds (possibly thousands) of dollars by SCAMMING my CONTACT LIST.
First things, first: for your safety and protection, please never, ever include any personally identifiable information such as your real name, Skype account name, e-mail address, or a telephone number in a post on a public Community or forum such as this.

afaik, users can only change their registered email address (1) if they supply the current password of the account in question (2) or contacting support and answering verification questions to prove that they are the owner of the account [in cases if the user don't remember their password or no longer have access to the account/registered email address].  Such verification questions are quite difficult to answer even for the account owner themselves at certain times (as what can be seen in other threads in this forum).
You may need to contact customer support again, and perhaps can ask for a senior rep/supervisor to handle your concern.

  • Skype account Hijacked

I had my Skype account compromised, had this suspended and then received an email from "customer service" that they had suspended the account and I had to tell them by email that the password had been changed. Since when does the Skype server not know when a password has been changed. So a bunch of scammers in Australia are trying to get a heap of contact details.

afaik, skype at the moment only offers email support, and live chat option for premium/selected members.  their support team usually respond within a 24 hour timeframe.

  • Help with skype account after being hacked

    Hey,
My skype account got hacked - someone got my password, changed it, and messaged all of my contacts asking for money. I recovered my password, got my account back, and have messaged all my contacts to tell them not to send any money.
However, they also managed to message a load of my Grandmother's contacts through my account, although I'm not sure how they did this, and I'm not sure how to check to see if they've messaged any others (I only know about my Grandmother's contacts because she told me).
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi, Olyaz, and welcome to the Community,
Neither have I concluded how the perpetrator could have accessed your grandmother's contacts by using your account.  Instead, I suspect that your grandmother's account was also compromised (hacked).
Ensure your account passwords are robust (good information is in the articles referenced in my signature block, below).  I would also run an anti-virus/malware/spyware scan on your and your grandmother's computers, using the most recent virus signature files available.  For avoidance of doubt, ensure all updates and patches are also installed, and that things such as Adobe and Java are updated.
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • My Skype account was hijacked.

My Skype account was hijacked a couple of weeks ago.  I lost the Skype credit I had loaded into my account, and the hijacker charged over $100 to my credit card through the Skype auto-recharge option.  I have contacted Skype customer support about this issue, but I suspect that the replies I have gotten might also be fraudulent.  I have lost almost $200 in this incident, and the security of my Skype account and possibly my credit card account have been compromised.  How can I contact a legitimate support person at Skype to get this issue resolved?

  • Hacked skype account, multiple auto-recharges

Hi. My skype account has auto-recharged (through a linked paypal account) 13 times today (5/9/13) for 10 euros each time, even though I did not even login. I am guessing that my account has been hacked and then someone has made calls that incurred charges (see below) so that it would auto-recharge. Could you please look into the history of how this credit was used/transferred and whether any of it can be recovered? I am now down 130 euros and I did not make any of the calls, nor did I explicity authorize the payments.
    Cheers,
    Ray

    You may need to contact customer service for clarifications regarding those charges, and for further assistance;

For the meantime, it may also be advisable to run a full antivirus scan using a fully updated antivirus software, then change your account password as a safety net (just in case your account was indeed hacked/compromised).

  • Skype account information hacked or stolen?

My self and a couple of friend who have Skype accounts have recently been getting annoying text messages to our phones, emails, and to our skype accounts. The reason I'm suspecting this has begun with information from our accounts is the first messages were received by way of Skype in the form of phony members asking did we want insurance. Upon blocking them, phone calls started coming with the phone number [edited for privacy]. The caller ID would say "Skype-FL". This person also asked did I want to purchase insurance. I just hung up on them. Then I started getting text messages from another FL (Florida) phone number telling to claim a prize from Wal-Mart if I called them back. Please look into this as it is a security hazard and also cost myself and others when receiving these text and emails, especially when I'm traveling abroad. Thank you and have a nice day.

please send a report to [email protected], and include as much details as possible.  I believe that this is just a usual case of people trying to scam Skype users, and doesn't necessarily mean that your account has been hacked or compromised.
You can also run a full antivirus scan and change your password as a safety net.

  • 2nd Step Verification for Skype account login?

    Hi
I am just wondering if there is any way you can enable 2nd Step verification on Skype?
There is many websites like Facebook which enable you to have a 2nd step verification on your account when you login with your password, for example you would be asked to enter a code which is usually sent to your mobile phone or a phone call with the code for you to be able to login with your account, I can see this is possible with a Microsoft account but I can find no way to do this with just using a Skype username.
Maybe Skype should give there users the option to do this so it will make accounts more secure and will enable less chances for a person to compromise  a Skype account.
I can see you can link your Microsoft account to your Skype username
does anyone know if this will somehow enable 2nd Step Verification for a Skype username login NOT a microsoft account login.

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
Skype accounts do not offer 2 factor authentication. Also linking to a Microsoft account doesn't inherit that functionality from the Microsoft one to the Skype one.
If you are planning to create a new Skype account in the near future we strongly recommend going for a Microsoft account based on because of that.

  • Remote users of one Skype account

    Hi.
I have a Skype account and have just added 2 new members to my team who will be working from home. Can I give them access to use my buisness Skype account to make calls form their own PCs in their own home or do I need to setup a new account with calls subscription for each of them on thier own machine?
Any advice will be gratefully received.

Hi, Language Angels, and welcome to the Community,
I would strongly urge a review the Terms of Use and Fair Usage policies prior to proceeding:  http://www.skype.com/en/legal/
Allowing multiple people to use one account is not only mentioned in the Terms of Use as not allowed, but could also find the account suspended as an anti-fraud measure.  Best to create new accounts and add the needed subscriptions and/or credit.   You might also research if Skype Manager would be useful:  http://www.skype.com/en/features/skype-manager/
    Best regards,
    Elaine

  • How Do I Close My Skype Account?

    Dear Readers,
This question is asked a lot here in the Community, particularly on this message board.  Perhaps this topic added here will be helpful.   This FAQ article explains the process of how to remove your Skype account (the blue type is actually a "link" to the FAQ article): https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA142/how-do-i-close-my-skype-account
First, remember to cancel all active subscriptions. If you think you might be entitled to a refund, please see this FAQ to determine this:  https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12147/when-can-i-get-a-refund?
Second, remove any saved payment methods from your account dashboard.
Third, remember to change the account status or presence setting to "offline."  For your convenience, an abridged version of the FAQ article's text - specific only to removing a Skype account - is copied and pasted below:
How do I close my Skype account?
If you want to close your Skype account, you’ll need to contact us so we can close it for you.
First, make sure you’ve cancelled any subscriptions or recurring payments, and used up any Skype Credit you have. Everything associated with your Skype account – including contacts, purchases and history – will be lost when your account is closed.
Next, contact Skype Customer Service and tell us you’d like to close your account.
It might take up to 30 days for your name to disappear from the directory, but after that, no one will be able to find you in Skype. Your name will still appear in your friends’ contact lists unless they remove it, but they won’t be able to contact you.
In the meantime, you can remove your personal information from your profile to prevent people from finding you based on those details.
    Remove your profile information
This will make it more difficult for people to find you in the Skype directory. You can remove or edit all of your details except for your Skype Name.
    To remove your profile information:
Change your profile picture and mood message.
If you have a profile picture that identifies you, you might want to change it. In Skype, click Skype > Profile > Change Your Picture… (on a Mac, click your profile picture and then Change Picture) and browse for a different picture.
You can leave a status message saying you’re no longer active on Skype, or giving your new Skype Name if you’re using a different account. Go to Skype > Profile > Edit Your Profile… and then click Enter mood message. (On a Mac, click your name or profile picture and then click Add Mood Message.)
    Sign out of Skype.
It’s a good idea to set your status to offline or invisible, and then sign out of Skype on all your devices. Type the chat command /remotelogout into the chat window to sign yourself out of Skype on any other devices you might be using, then sign out on the one you’re using now.
    Go to your account.
Sign in to your account on skype.com
Can’t sign in? Find out what to do if you’ve forgotten your username or password.
    Go to your profile.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and, under Settings and preferences, click Edit profile.
    Edit your profile details.
In the Personal Information section, click Edit.
Remove your information from the Personal Information and Contact Details sections. Some fields are mandatory - replace the info in these with random characters, because you won’t be able to save it if the fields are empty. Click Save.
Please remember this is a one-time request which cannot be reversed.
One more point to keep in mind: removing your account from the Search Directory will not "pull," "remove," "delete," or "retract" instant messages or file transfers that you have previously sent to your contacts.  Your account name will still appear on their contact lists, although they will no longer be able to contact you using the account name you have requested be removed.
The last step of the process is to file your request to remove your account with Skype Customer Service.   This final and required step in the process is often overlooked, and we here in the Community are not authorized to process service requests.  Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
Skype is aware of sporadic website issues.  Temporarily enabling scripts, disabling browser add-ins that might disable pop-up dialog boxes, and temporarily enabling pop-up dialog boxes may help get you through to Skype Customer Service.  If you still experience difficulty reaching Skype Customer Service or find yourself redirected back to the Community, please try again using a different web browser.
Look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also block reaching an agent.
Last and not least, when you reach the last step of the process, remember to click on the "Start Chat" link when you are provided the choice of visiting the Community or starting an instant message chat with a customer service agent.
    Best regards,
    Elaine
