Computer Crashed After Leopard Installation...Help, Please!

So, I installed Leopard to my G5 and everything ran smoothly...But then when I restarted my computer and then it got to the blue screen before the computer loads and now it just stays there...All blue and nothing else...Nothing will happen and I have NO idea what went wrong...I need help, PLEASE!...Just, how do I re-install Tiger or get it to run again?...Thanks, Peace and Love!

As the article stated
Start up in single-user mode by holding Command-S after restarting the computer.
Execute these commands, each on a single line:
/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
Execute this command on a single line. Important: Type the command carefully, misuse of rm may damage other files.
rm -rf /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ApplicationEnhancer.bundle
Restart normally.
If the issue persists, use solution 1 above instead.

  • ...big trouble after leopard installation. Please help!

I have recently upgraded to Leopard from 10.4. After the installation everything seems normal, the computer boots as usual, I am able to log in and everything seems fine. The first thing I do is to connect my external hard drive [Formac disk 800 XTR] - 800 GB via firewire, because that's the place where my files are.
Then the following message comes up:
"The hard drive "xxx" could not be repaired by the computer. You only get limited access to it. You have to backup your data and reformat the hard drive as soon as possible."
What I notice now is that finder is not working. I can open most other programs and the dashboard but not do anything in them.. I pull out the hard drive and restart the computer, but it's still the same, finder is not working, you can open some programs, the dock and the dashboard are usable. I can't access any disks, which means that i can't reinstall leopard or revert to tiger.
Also, I have never had any trouble with that hard drive before, and just over five seconds it has to be repaired.. It was my secure backup...
I can't open it with my macbook either.
Any suggestions on what to do?
    My specs are
iMac G5 (Power PC) 2,0 GHz 2GB ram

Yep, meeting the minimum requirements will get you minimum performance. A machine that runs Tiger great may not be able to keep up with all the new code in Leopard.
CockTail is just another utility program that I keep around. I leave my computers running 24/7 so I don't need to worry about the daily/weekly/monthly maintenance scripts. They used to be called cron tasks, but are are being handled by launchd. They run very early in the morning and if the computer is not running, they may not run very often.
Cocktail can run them manually without you having to resort to terminal commands. It can also give you access to several other utility type settings like enabling journaling, deleting DS Store files, tweaking network transmission settings, showing hidden files, and many other settings that you can work with in Terminal if you want.
    Use it sparingly.

  • Need After Effects installation help please..

Hello. I am a student and I am taking a class on After Effects. I am trying to install the free trial version, but when I click "run" or "save", a box pops up that says that it is installing followed by another box that says "We've encountered the following issues: Please connect to the internet, then try again." My internet is up and running fast and the computer is plugged directly into the modem. I also tried using a different browser, but nothing has worked. Is there something else I could try??

  • Crashes after Leopard Installation

After upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5.1 several applications are crashing or freezing. One of them is Firefox 3.0, other is Grab utility, that quits on launch, everytime. I applied the 10.5.4 update and still the problem persists. Any help direction is much appreciated.
    Thank you

I tried both sets of Suggestions. I used Validate fonts to identify corrupted fonts and deleted them. Then uninstalled Microsoft 2008 (source of newer fonts). Installed the combo update. Reinstalled Microsoft 2008 (and got the fonts back). Updated Microsoft 2008 to its latest patch. But still the Grab utility crashes upon launch.
    Thank you for your help

  • Desktop computer crashes after sleep mode since upgrade to Snow Leopard

Since I upgraded my power Mac to Snow Leopard in December, I've had nothing but problems, all of which appear to stem from when it comes out of sleep mode. This computer and all applications were rock solid in Leopard! I also have a mac book running identical programs and that IS rock solid on Snow Leopard. I have a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon processor with 10 GB ram.
I did a complete re-install of SL and all programs as per the Apple instructions.
Basically, the computer crashes after sleep mode. I've tried all the fixes I've read on the net. Here is the report thread from the last crash. Does it mean anything or throw any light on the problem to anyone?
    Thanks,
    David Wright

The problem has been identified as the RME fireface400 audio driver. I've spent some considerable time experimenting to identify the culprit. It's clear that this is what is causing all my problems since Snow Leopard. Whether it's exclusively the drivers fault or partly also due to a conflict with apple SL, I don't know, but I have crash reports if apple want to see them.
From your first post, it appears you are using Fireface audio driver version 2.64. RME released a new Snow Leopard compatible driver (version 2.65) last December. It is available at RME: Downloads. (There is also a firmware updater for the Fireface 400 there, which you might want to check out.)
It isn't at all unusual for a new OS version to require new drivers for third party hardware. References to this can be found all over the web, in "read me" files & other documentation, etc. -- it doesn't just apply to OS X but to Windows & other OS's as well. (One of the biggest problems with Vista was poor third party driver support.) In fact, the X-Lab "Resolving Kernel Panics" article specifically cautions users to make sure all such drivers are current. See section 6.1 of that article for more details.
I don't know if you missed all this somehow, but if you haven't already downloaded & installed the new RME driver (& possibly the firmware update as well), then do so now. While you are at it, check for other similar updates for any other third party hardware devices you use, using the info in section 6.1 of the X-Lab article as a guide.
Hopefully, this will resolve your issue, which (as already mentioned) is kernel panics, not crashes. If you still have problems, post more about them, being mindful of the difference between application crashes & kernel panics. Because they are fundamentally different, they have different cures, so we will need to know which type they are to offer effective help.

  • My computer crashed after an attempt to upgrade to Yosemite. I can't quit the installer and my MacBook keeps on restarting

My computer crashed after an attempt to upgrade to Yosemite. I can't quit the installer and my MacBook keeps on restarting

I Have a 2008 Macbook Pro 15". It was running issue free until I upgraded to Yosemite. Now my logic board is fried and apple will not fix it. It started with mail accounts unable to send mail, just had to delete accounts and re- install to fix that. But, at the same time as the download, I started intermittently getting a green tint over the screen along with a snowy static like an old TV set. Fearing that my download was corrupt, I re- installed Yosemite over-writing the previous version .  The green haze kept coming and going, but I also started getting strobe style white flashes in boxes in the 4 corners of my monitor. I had to do power button forced shutdowns because of pointer and keyboard function failure. Apple Genius desk told me it appeared to be a logic board failure but my computer was too old for them to work onand referred me to a Mac Specialist Center. I was told by both places that Apple installed defective logic boards back then due to changing solder formula. They extended product warranty by adding 1 yr but that still expired in 2012. I tried to post a warning on Mac Forums twice about Yosemite being a poison pill to certain platforms and my posts were pulled. The second attempt was responded to in my personal email account stating that if I don't stop posting derogatory comments, I will be blocked from forum. I am just trying to insert warnings in posts where I can. They haven't discovered that yet. Spread the word!

  • Everything keeps freezing/crashing after Mavericks installation on MacBook Pro

Everything keeps freezing/crashing after Mavericks installation on MacBook Pro.
It started with Photoshop, then Safari, and now the Kinect sensor.
Mavericks is the worse thing that happened to me I have a thesis project to work on!
    What can I do?
How can I remove Mavericks and go back to Mountain Lion?
    Thanks

    Hey StephSassine,
First, I would run through these steps:
Your computer’s startup disk may not have enough free disk space. To make disk space available, you can move files to another disk and then delete files you no longer need on the startup disk:
    Increase disk space
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10677
If that doesn't work, you may need to repair your computer’s disk in Disk Utility:
Choose Apple menu > Software Update to make sure you have the latest version of Mac OS X.
Software updates sometimes change a file’s permissions to improve security, so updating your software can solve some permissions problems.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in Launchpad.
Select the disk you want to check.
    Click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions.
via: Disk Utility 12.x: Repair disk permissions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5821
If that doesn't help resolve the issue, you can revert to a previous OS X version:
OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14176
    Sincerely,
    Delgadoh

  • Software Update Issue-After Leopard Installation

I installed Leopard yesterday and ran the first software update; everything worked OK; the first software updated included three updates: Remote Desktop Client update; iDVD update and Garageband update.
Today I tried to run another update and had this issue: while the Software Update is displaying a message saying "New software is available for your computer" there is nothing listed below and the install button is disabled! Then I went to the Software Update Preference and saw a message there saying Last Attempt Failed; error occurred while checking
Does anyone have the same issue while trying a new software update after Leopard installation?
I do understand there is another new update issued yesterday by Apple regarding login key
Grateful for any insight re this problem

Hi. I had the same problem after doing an erase and install of Leopard yesterday. When I go into Terminal (actually iTerm) and type "softwareupdate -l" (to list all updates), I see:
    XML parser error:

    Old-style plist parser error:

This appears to be a problem with com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist, the property list for Software Update, but I'm not sure. If I type "find ~/Library/ -name '*plist' -exec plutil {} \;" to check all the plists, however, the Software Update plist checks out as OK. Furthermore, deleting that property list and rebooting to force the OS to create a new plist does not fix the problem. Weird. Now, if I type "sudo softwareupdate -i -a" to install all updates (change "-a" to "-r" to only install recommended updates), it works fine. I still get that same error when I try to run Software Update normally afterwards, but if I go to the preferences, all of the updates are listed under Installed Updates. So, I can get the OS to update automatically, but only through the Terminal. This is very weird, and I hope someone can shed more light on this situation.

  • Keynote disappeared after leopard installation

I AM HAVING SOME SERIOUS DATA LOSS AND PROGRAM LOCATION PROBLEMS AFTER LEOPARD INSTALLATION.
I can not find my previous keynote application program , which was part of ilife08, where did go?
same thing with adobe files , every program is trial version after LEOPARD INSTALLATION.

Ahh, welcome to the wonderful world of wifi under Leopard. Maybe you weren't aware that tens of thousands of people have been having endless problems with wifi whilst using Leopard .... I just got back from holiday - full signal yet no internet. Connect using ethernet and there it is - working perfectly. The culprit? Apple's very own Airport extreme base station, the new one which I bought thinking my old one was on the blink - nope.
Meanwhile Apple have not said a word about this in the last 8-10 weeks of utter misery for countless people - not a sausage. Many people are counting on 10.5.2 fixing this. I say don't count on it. Remember to complain to Apple as it is their own software/hardware that is at fault here. Meanwhile, they introduce a ... wifi laptop.... ooh the irony.

Mouse buttons no longer work for iTunes playback (play/pause, next, previous) after update! Help please!

When you say "mouse button", do you mean clicking on the controls in the upper left of the iTunes window or do you mean that you have special media keys on your mouse?

  • Computer Crashes after 1.1.1 update??

Has anyones computer crashed after update???
    heres wat happen to me!
First i got errors -48. Called Apple had to create new user account to on my computer to work around it. then logged back in to my user account and got error -50 that said unable to sync!
I go to restart my computer hoping that would fix it. It wont restart!!! I push the power button and it makes the little sound and u hear the disc drive then the screen turns gray and stays gray and doesnt do anything else!!!
    Whats going on!!!

Well the first thing I thought of was device driver problems, and there is a lot of that being reported here, although I've never seen it reported on a MAC system. I would still say though that it has something to do with your system setup, exactly what unknown, you'd have to troubleshoot that yourself, sorry, but it could be lots of things and you would know your system better than anyone else. I can tell you one thing though, I use my iPhone on my MAC, Vista 32b, and XP PRO with no problems at all. So it's got to be something inherent in your system. USB ports can be flakey on MAC's as well as windows systems, so the first thing I would do is unplug all existing USB devices, accept keyboard/mouse, and try to proceed from there.
I would also try to ignore the idiots that only want to post things like OOOooopppsss.

  • Please help! - My computer crashed and I need help reinstalling my CS3 software

Please help!  My computer crashed and now I am trying to reistall my CS3 software.  I'm receiving Unable to Install errors for all of the programs in the Suite except the Acrobat 8 Professional.  Can someone please help me?  I cannot afford to upgrade, but need this software to do freelance work.  I own the software and serial number but Adobe will not support me as it is an older version.

I downloaded and ran the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool.  It showed no files to remove, but still said it was successful.  I then tried reinstalling the entire suite.  Acrobat 8 Professional was the only program that installed.  All other programs gave me a componant failed error.  Any other advice would be greatly appreciated?!
    Thanks

  • Laptop crashed after Redirect Virus/Trojan - please help!

I have HP G72-B66US laptop purchased 10/2010.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  I have McAfee Antivirus with current virus definitions and nothing was found but a month or so ago my McAfee firewall started turning off.  I would turn it back on and sometimes it would turn right back off again.  I’ve been concerned that I had some problem undetected by McAfee so I downloaded MalwareBytes.  I actually disconnected my laptop from our wireless internet connection and downloaded the MalwareBytes setup file onto a flash drive using our desktop PC and then installed MalwareBytes on my laptop without taking it back online.  MalwareBytes went all the way through a full scan and at the very end detected the Redirect Trojan.  When I attempted to remove this Trojan with Malwarebytes, my computer crashed.  When I rebooted, it was back connected to the wireless router and McAfee’s firewall was off again.  Now the laptop won’t even boot up.
[A] When I reboot it I get the “Starting Windows” message followed by the HP logo.  Then I get a Windows Error Recovery screen with the following message: “Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.  If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem.  If power was interrupted during startup, chose Start Windows Normally.”  When I chose Startup Repair, it says “Windows is loading files” and then displays a blue screen with something that looks like rays of light beaming from the top center.  Then it says “Startup Repair”.  Then it shows the Recovery Manager screen in the background with Startup Repair window on top.  This window displays the message “Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically”.  Closing that window brings me to the Recovery Manager screen with 3 sections: “I need help immediately”, “I’d like to identify any problems”, and “I’d like to take precautions”.  The first section contained 3 options: Microsoft System Restore, System Recovery, and Minimized Image Recovery. The second section had 1 option: Run Computer Checkup.  And the third section had 1 option: File Backup Program.
[B] First I chose to back up my files.  I then tried to read the DVDs on my desktop PC and saw the whole thing is compressed, so I have not verified the integrity of the backup.  The Computer Checkup utility provides 3 options: Launch Check Disk for the Windows Partition, Launch Check Disk for the Recovery Partition, or Open a Command Prompt.
Running Check Disk for the Windows Partition, it went through the process of verifying files and then indexes and security descriptors.  I did not see anything that looked bad, though at the end the data flew rapidly up the screen so I couldn’t read it all.
[C] At this point, I clicked the X to close Recovery Manager.  It prompted: “Do you want to exit Recovery Manager and reboot?” and I clicked OK.  This brought me back to the stage described in [A] above.  This time I chose “Start Windows Normally.”  I got the “Starting Windows” message followed by the HP logo.  Then it went right back to the Windows Error Recovery screen with my two choices of “Startup Repair” or “Start Windows Normally”.
[D] I then went back into Recovery Manager and tried System Recovery.  Since I’d been having problems for a few weeks I chose to recover a few stages back, using 4/6/13.  That recover processed for a while but eventually failed.  The problem was identified as StartupRepairOffline.  I don’t know if I can even get my laptop back online since I can’t cleanly boot up, so if I need to be online to run the repair utility I’m stuck.
Please advise how I should proceed from this point…

I am running Kaspersky antivirus and the same problem is coming up like antivirus is turned off..
sysem recovery is not working as well as the recovery discs..what to do??

    hey there,
There have been some updates recently. iTunes, and iDVD were both updated and i did use the Auto-Update Utility to update to 10.4.10.
Im just using the built in audio and a Novation SL 37 Controller keyboard.
If it helps, it crashes after loading all of the AU settings, Loops Library, Core Audio and MIDI Drivers. Just after the arrange window opens up.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks
    Hi,
You need to download and re-install 10.4.9, but using the COMBO update, the large size one. The version that Auto-Update uses is broken, and does not install properly, as you now see.
Also, try to download and install the "Pro Application Support" version 4.0.1 or 4.0.2, after doing the 10.4.10 update again.
    Cheers
