Computer Crashed, got new one, now touch will not sync
Our old pc crashed, got a new one, installed newest itunes, and now the ipod touch will not sync without erasing all the info on it. I just want to add new apps to it, is there anyway to do this without restoring or resetting
When your machine crashed, was it a hard drive issue? If so, were you using any kind of backup solution (external hard drive, blank DVDs etc)?
If not and you have to start from scratch, then the only way to sync with a new computer is to erase and resync. Purchased items should transfer though. I would suggest that you explore some of the third party desktop programs that allow you to get content off an iPod and into your library first.
Then when you have that sorted, you can try to sync. Who knows, you may find that the purchased stuff, apps and other song or video content may be transferred if you are logged in to that copy of iTunes with the AppleID used to purchase those items.
Moving forward though, I seriously suggest using some sort of backup system whether you manually drag files to a drive somewhere, or use some online backup service. Also it helped me to learn a bit about how iTunes works and organizes the media it contains so when something like this happens (and it did once to me) replacing the data back where it needed to be was much less of a task. This made syncing my iPods a worry free endeavor.

My old computer crashed and we purchased a new one (the old system was XP and the new is VISTA), can I install my music from my IPOD on my new computer by using a FLASH drive? I was told that I could but am not sure of the steps? Could someone please advise?

The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
One final thing, if your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever retrieval method you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -

The password is for your iTunes account. Not for your old iPod. Enter your Email and password will give you access to all the music you bought from iTunes. If you forget it then I dont know how to help you there guess your SOL.

What happens when you try to connect to the Wi-Fi? Any error messages? Have you tried a hard reset of the iPod? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Restore. Everything except the password will be restored. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. Be forewarned that it takes a long time. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. -
