Computer Freezing.  Graphics Card?

I work extensively on FCPX  and have had no issues with this computer as to date.  I originally had to take my last 2010 model back to Best Buy because it was experiencing failures, so they gave me this new one.  I am running a mid 2012 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16GB ram and am on OSX 10.8.2  I do run my computer on two monitors, and these problems happen regardless of it being plugged in or standalone.
Toda, I was working, and the screen would start to Flicker and there were big blocky pixels that appeared on the screen, and the computer froze.  The spinning wheel started, and the mouse was able to move, but no other interaction can take place.  This worried me a bit, and it has been doing it all day.
I have been testing everything I can, and have reset the PRAM and all of that stuff. I have run memory checks and have used Tech Tool, which shows no errors.  I then started to run FCPX again, and then my computer Kernel Panicked and restarted.  I saved that information, and will paste it below this.
This made me worried and I decided to run the Apple Hardware Test.  I have run the standard and the extended test, and both end up freezing.  I have done this multiple times, and the extended test freezes at 8 min 28sec.
Im guessing that there is some type of hardware failure.  Is there anyone else that has this problem?

Try a smc reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Also try a pram reset:
Power down, hold down the keys option, command,P,R (no commas) continue to hold these keys till you here the start chime 2 times,  then release. Reboot.
You also seem to have quite abit of 3rd party software, try a safe boot, which will disable all but essentcial software.
Try going thru different applications and seee if you don't hvae the panics/crashes, if all is normal, then it would be 3rd party software.
Try a normal boot and see if it behaves abnormally, if so disable all the 3rd party software, and add one at at time to find out which is the offending application. Then trash i.
Hope this helps,
SJP
If no joy, bring it in to the Apple store. they wil disgnose it for free and give you a price for repair, most of their repairs are done on a flat rate, with the exception of liquid damage.
They will repair all the problems for the flat rate, except the screen. Video card, logic board, lcd backlighting, and other things for the flat rate, for about 13rd the price of the cheapest MBP.

  • How to check my computer's graphics card compatibility

    My computer model name is

I have purchased this desktop for 5 years and my graphics card had started to wear out.
So i did some research on what graphics card my desktop can handle but it was very challenging
some says that if the PS is high the computer can use anything but the size of the graphics card concerns me
and some says that just buy a 270x but i dont know what my PS is for the computer and i dont know if my computer can use the grapics card's full potentials.
So how I do really check what my motherboard can handle for the graphics cards?
    This question was solved.

    Welcome to the forum.
The power supply unit (PSU) in the computer is 300W.  Most mid-level video cards require a minimum of 400W to run properly.  A video card that will run with the 300W PSU will not
be much better than the integrated video.  Therefore, a PSU upgrade is necessary, also.
OCZ and Corsair make very good PSU's.  Irecommend at least 500W; 600W is even better for future upgrades.  You should measure the current PSU and compare the measurements to the one you choose.
The video card should be no more than 9" in length.  It is a PCI Express x16.   If you upgrade the PSU this card will work for you:

  • What computer component - graphic card, ram, cpu speed - are best for CS 6 Extended?

I recently purchased CS 6 Extended. I just learned it does not work with my XP Professional operating system. I need to upgrade and was hoping for some guidance in what to look for in a new system. I would like to keep my cost below $2,500 if possible. I also use my computer for 3D modeling programs (Daz 3D and Poser mostly) for both still and animation work, altho my main concern is with CS 6 Extended. Thanks in advance for any advice.

All are important.  Photoshop stresses every part of your computer.
Whenever trying to figure out what combinations of hardware give good performance I start by looking at the Passmark benchmark results.
    http://www.passmark.com/
Their web-aware Performance Test application, which you can download and use for a while for free, facilitates people around the world testing their systems and uploading the results, then you can use it to download baselines from different systems and compare graphically.
Notably systems built around the i7-3930K Sandy Bridge processor are topping their all-around score performance chart at the moment.
Some general guidelines for use with Photoshop I'd suggest:
Get at least 16GB of RAM, more if future-proofing is important to you and you can afford it (I have 48GB).  I strongly recommend ECC.
Get a video card that scores at least 1000 on the Passmark G3D test (pretty much any card at $100 and above does that nowadays).  You don't need God's own high-end card for Photoshop, but don't skimp either.
Consider SSD storage, as SSDs have arrived in the mainstream and no longer need a lot of special care (though they're still expensive but dropping).
Only a few months ago I embarked on the same search you're doing.  I kind of normally follow a kind of off-beat track myself...  I watch for off-cutting-edge workstations to become available (e.g., off lease) on eBay, then outfit them with great hardware components, such as an array of SSDs and a mid- to high-end gamer video card.  I like these kinds of systems because they're optimized for high throughput and reliability overall vs. raw speed at specific things.  There's nothing like having dual Xeons with tons of cores and hyperthreading for 3D rendering.    Right now I have a Dell Precision T5500 system that has top-of-the-line parts in it.  This config cost over $10K at Dell just before they released their T5600 line, then dropped WAY down after.  Per the Passmark benchmark it's still the most powerful Dell as yet benchmarked based on overall score.

  • Macbook pro retina shutting down after computer changes graphic card

My 15 inch (Mid 2012) Retina MacBook Pro has recently started to shut down. I realized it was because of the change from using the Intel HD Graphics 4000 to the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M. This would happen if I were to play around with the energy savings buttons or run something that requires a lot of power. After shutting down, it would restart with a black screen and will proceed to do nothing. The computer is still on though as I can still hear error noises when pressing the keyboard. It would normally require me to wait 15 minutes and turn it on after resetting RAM and SMC. I know that it isn't related to updating to the latest version of Mavericks as I was still able to run some heavy duty apps after installing it.
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
    Storage  250GB

I just ran a few tests to confirm my suspicion that this is a sleep problem for me and found that my rMBP will restart as soon as it has entered the sleep cycle.  Set it to auto sleep after 10 minutes and it will restart at 10 minutes, set it to sleep at 3 minutes and it will restart at 3 minutes.  Command it to sleep and it will restart.
So for me at least there is a workaround and that is to set sleep to "never".  The display still sleeps but my mac keeps running.  So that's not a solution but it is a workaround, and if I want it to shutdown and not restart I either hold the powerbutton or take off the power cable and choose shut down from the dropdown menu (it won't restart on battery power, it'll just shut down).
I hope that helps someone else!  And I hope it helps the engineers to diagnose and actually solve the very long running problem for us all..

  • Itunes crashing my graphics card? Laptop?

    Hi All,
Hoping that someone can help me out here - I'm rapidly loosing my faith in Apple..
When the IO7 software came out, I tried to upgrade my Itunes to Version 11.0, downloaded the update, and got 95% of the way through installing it, and it came up with an error message and wouldn't install, deleted all the installation files and i had to start again.
After trying this three times, I eventually deleted itunes all together and did a complete reinstall.
Upgraded to IO7, and have regretted it ever since. My phone bluetooth doesn't sync in my car, my music won't play automatically, the control panel doesn't work, and I buy music on my phone, only to have my phone delete it not only from the library, but the cloud, my purchased playlists, indeed, the only evidence that I ever bought the song, is the invoice in my inbox!
Anyway - Just on a fortnight ago, I bought the first two season of "Person of Interest" through Itunes, and got busy downloading. Thanks to apples security, I then had to go out and buy an HDMI cable to hook up the computer to the TV.
All is going along really well, until two nights ago, when I get this strange error message come up on the TV saying "Scene Selection has been changed". My laptop is completely frozen, the monitor is flicking, and the machine is completely unresponsive. I have to hold the power button for 10 seconds and shut it down, befoer restarting and trying again, only to get 20 minutes into the next episode and having the same problem.
Yesterday, the system crashed practically every 15 minutes.
At first I thought it must be the HDMI cable, as the machine was operating fine without it - but, the cable is brand new, and as the computer has been pretty well doing nothing but downloading episodes and sitting on the TV unit while we watch them, I haven't really been using my laptop much, until today.
I've been doing basic facebok, email, internet browsing, and playing itunes in the background, and my laptop has crashed five times today.
At least three out of the five times it crashed, I was either maximising the itunes screen, or using itunes. (I wasn't really paying attention the other two times, could well have had something to do with itunes, but i'm not 100%)
I'm running windows 7 on an HP Pavillion dv6 notebook.
    2.30GH AMD Turion processor
    4GB Ram
    32 bit operating sytsem
I'm using Itunes 11.01, tried to upgrade to .2 but same error message as previously mentioned - will have to delete itunes and do a complete reinstall.
Basically, has anyone come across this problem? Could Itunes be crashing my computer or graphics card, I've tried changing resolution settings, I've tried not watching the movies in full screen, etc, doesn't matter, still crashes.
    Thoughts?

    Hi All,
Hoping that someone can help me out here - I'm rapidly loosing my faith in Apple..

  • Upgrade graphics card available?

    Hello,
My iMac has an ATI RadeonHD 2600 card with 256G. Is it possible to upgrade this computer's graphics card? If so, what are the options for upgrade?
    thanks.

    Short answer: No.
Graphics cards cannot be upgraded - the only choices there are if you buy from the online store and choose a special configuration.

  • How do I put a new graphics card in my hp p6310y?

Hello. I'd like to upgrade my computer's graphics card for a better gaming experience with games such as Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. I am buying a EVGA Nvidia GeForce GT 430 Graphics Card with 1024MB DDR3 Memory and was wondering how to install it. Or if it was even compatible.
Thanks. (Sorry if it's the wrong section. I'm new here)

    Hi Bzar,
The NVIDIA GTS 450 needs a 6 pin PCI-E power connector and a 400 watt power supply.  The HP p6310y only has a 300 watt power supply.
A decent video card for a PC with a 300 watt power supply is the NVIDIA GT 240 512mb or 1GB with DDR5 memory.  This card will not support DirectX 11 which is used in the newer games to provide improved detail.

  • Graphics Card - Amnesia: The dark descent

Ok so the deal is, I am planning on buying Amnesia, but I can't if the demo can't even run without a proper graphics card (It shows the title screen and ingame the crosshair but behind it is just plain black and no light whatsoever).
    (Long Story Short on bottom)
There is many videos on youtube about this problem and it can be resolved by updating your Intel(R) HD Graphics Card.  So I tried going to intel to manually download an update. When I was done going through the video and finally getting ready to update it said "Windows could not verify if this update is compatible with your graphics card, updating now could lead to major problems or making your computer not work at all. Are you sure you want to update it?" and I said no to it and I looked on Intel for them to look at my computer's graphics card and find an update and it said this
Product detected: Intel(R) Processor Graphics 3000
    Current Driver installed: 8.15.10.2523
A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.
So I clicked computer manufacturer and I ended up here, could someone tell me how and what i should do?
    Please
    Long Story short:
Please can someone tell me an update for my graphics card so I can run Amnesia: The Dark Descent without it ruining my computer (I want a sure answer where my computer will not break no matter what if you could please)

What's the full model number of your computer? It should be on a label on the bottom.
As an aside, it's a very interesting game. I started playing it recently, and I suspect I'm about half way through.

  • Photoshop CC - Graphic cards for smooth performance?

I am running PSCC on my main desktop computer. I find that it lags significantly enough to impair my workflow especially when using brushes (default ones).
I have also tested PSCC on a Win 8 gaming laptop and it runs smoothly there.
I am currently using an Nvidia GFX 465. The rest of the system, in brief, is a Win 7 Pro 64 bit system with 12G ram, with 75% dedicated to PS. I have tried setting the memory prefs to 'Tall and Thin' and 'Big and Flat'; the larger cache tile size seems to help a little, although it was working better with 'Tall and Thin' in CS6. Open GL is enabled; Open CL is enabled, draw mode set to Basic (Advanced slows things).
i am interested in hearing what graphic cards folks who claim they have no performance issues in PS CC are using. I am wondering if upgrading my main computer's graphic card will help, and perhaps there is a clue if I knew what cards were working fine with the program.

You may well find that a newer video card will be helpful.  However, it may not solve everything for you...
Painting with large brushes also relies heavily on CPU speed, and thus your system's responsiveness will be somewhat dependent on how fast your CPU's individual core speed is.
Does the "gaming laptop" have much newer / faster CPU technology than your desktop system?  CPUs have been getting much faster in the past few years, even though clock speeds haven't been changing much (basically new the new CPUs do more per clock cycle).
To run Photoshop best, especially when painting with large brushes (e.g., hundreds to thousands of pixels in size), you really need both modern CPU technology and a good graphics card (as well as very good disk speed).
Personally, for the past few years I've been more fond of ATI cards than nVidia, and I presently have a moderately powerful Visiontek ATI Radeon HD 7850 card, which (with ATI's latest driver release) works very well with Photoshop CC.

  • Can I add a better graphic card to Equium A100-306?

As the title suggests is it possible to add a graphics card to an A100 - 306 Equium in order to better handle games?
    Any thoughts/comments much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Honestly no its not possible. Every model has a set list of parts that can be ordered, and if your model has a graphics card of 128MB the only video card an ASP can order is the one listed for your model. The equium A100-306 is different for instance then the Equium A100-307. From looking at the parts list for your computer, your Graphics card is integrated on the MB, meaning you can not even upgrade it if you wanted. Sorry, no chance for an upgrade on your Notebook.

  • Computer not responding to Graphics Card/Freezes up in Games

    Hello All.
Recently I've updated my Drivers, and almost everygame I've played has just been freezing after 10 Mins of gameplay. It stay's on the screen for about 2 Mins, then closes off along with the app it was running on (Steam). Before i had updated my drivers, everything was fine. I've tried to downgrade the Catayst and I've tried to roll back the driver's for the Video Card, but it wont work no matter what. After 3 days, I once again uninstall AMD Catalyst, and now my graphic card won't work. I would reset the computer many times just for the Monitor to get signal, but once more, it was a failure. I'm begging for help here, and if anybody can help me, I commend you! So please, please, please, please, help me, thank you, and have a wonderful day!

  • Computer freezes when switching to discrete Graphics Card.

Hi! I have a W530 with the K1000M graphics card, along with the Nvidea Optimus program. Whenever I run a program that uses my discrete graphics card, I get the error "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered." I've used my discrete graphics card before with no problems, although my computer has had two major changes since the last time I've used it (see notes below).
Solutions I've tried: Updating with the correct drivers through Windows Update (update failed), updating driver through Lenovo website (broke display), updating drivers through Nvidea website (driver installed, didn't fix problem). Nothing works, and the Lenovo driver basically disabled my display. It took me hours to fix just that-- for some reason, whenever I crash, my computer looks at drive X instead of C. Had to screw around for a while just to let me do a system restore.
I'm rather upset about the whole thing because I really like my laptop. Right now, I've just set Optimus to never use the discrete graphics card...
    Thanks for reading!
*Note 1: I have some aftermarket parts: Crucial RAM and a mSATA SSD. I've had these parts in for over a year with no problems.
*Note 2: The motherboard in my laptop blew a transistor or something a few weeks ago. My university's computer shop replaced it under warranty.
*Note 2.1: I'm not sure if the new motherboard is causing the problems or Windows 8.1, or something else entirely. I haven't used my discrete graphics card since before both the 8.1 update and my motherboard being fixed.

This happened to me whenever I was trying to run 3dsMax Design 2013 in Optimus mode, everytime I attempted to open that program it would simply refuse and say the nvidia driver had just crashed.
It was solved with nvidia 305.93 I think (I currently run 331.82 which is the latest) look for the most up to date driver at the nvidia drivers download page.
That is really an nvidia driver related problem but you should also update your Intel video card driver too as previously suggested. (and if the program that is crashing is an Autodesk product be sure to be up to date too (with all the nuances that it implies), I'm currently running 3dsmax 13 PU6 and it works)
So what you need to do is to uninstall your nvidia driver completely, reboot, install the most up to date from nvidia. reboot, via windows update install the lates Intel video driver (if something appears) (don't install it from the intel web site). In device manager my intel driver appears to be 9.17.10.2843
(Maybe it didn't work the last time for you because maybe you didn't perform a clean installation)

  • Freezing Screen, Graphics Card not functioning

I'd bought my Macbook Pro 15-inch in Summer 2011. 2 days ago my screen started freezing and I took it to the Genius Bar. They checked it and concluded that the problem is with the graphics card, so it either had to be replied (around $340 incl. tax) or I've to buy a new laptop. I asked them why it could have happened, they said, there might be many reasons, and "it's an old computer anyway". What I don't understand is, if a Macbook Pro 15-inch cannot last longer than 3,5 years, what is the point of paying so much for this product? And why is a 3,5 year old macbook pro considered as an old one? Do they expect me to pay more than thousand dollars every two years? It was my first Apple product and I am very disappointed and unsatisfied. What should I do now: a)replace the graphics card with a new one OR b)buy a new laptop?

Hi. This is a known issue  with the AMD 6750m graphics card in macbook pro 2011. There are a lot of posts in here on it.Weather apple will address this I can not say. You would have to  keep checking with Apple on this. One possible temp solution in to use energy saver to limit the use of the AMD card. Check is post.  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4161572

  • Photoshop and Lightroom freezing with supported graphics card

    Good Morning,
I'm looking for some help to correct a problem. I'm sending this request to Adobe, Asus, Corsair, and Intel. I'm a professional photographer and this is my new computer to support the Nikon D800.
    Problem:
When working in both Photoshop (CS5) and Lightroom 4 my computer is freezing and I'm having to do a kill restart to unfreeze the computer. This is happening when doing simple processes like panting with the air brush in Photoshop.
I have to correct this issue it is my livelihood. Which of the components do I need to replace and with what specifically?
    Computer:
    i7 3970k CPU Intel
    Asus Sabertooth X79 motherboard
    Corsair 8- 8GB for a total of 64GB of ram (un-buffered)
    Two drives both Western Digital
Graphics card is a Adobe supported ASUS GeForce GTX570
    Windows 7 professional
    Attempted corrections:
Up dated graphics card drivers, and  Windows, check and unchecked Open GL Draw but it freeze in both setting. Follow all of Adobe's set up guide lines. Follow the recommendations from NAPP. Had some bad sticks of ram waiting on Corsair RMA replacement. Computer has 16 GB of ram in it at the current time but the freezing characteristics are the same with 64 GB and 16 GBs of ram.
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Mike Boatman

I am running Win 7 Prof on a Xeon processor with 12 GB RAM. Occasionally I experience random freezes of my system but as far as I can tell neither Lr nor Photoshop are involved.
I never found a cause since my Event Viewer does not give any error messages.
I have searched the Win 7 forum at http://www.sevenforums.com/#windows-7-help-support
    and found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2575077
They say they fixed it with a hotfix but it seems it still does occur. My last freeze was on May 3, 2012.

  • Mac Pro Graphics Card causing freezes?

    Hi there,
My 1st Gen Mac Pro keep freezing...most times requiring a restart. The freezes seem to occur when 'using' the graphics card (Nvidia 7300GT). Have completely reinstalled OSX and it still happens.
Hardware Test doesn't bring up a problem with the graphics card, but there are some weird black glitches which appear on text and also some windows acquire the ability to rub others out...? Also, on turning on, the computer sometimes shows just red, green random patches of colour. The problems seem to be getting gradually worse.
Monitor is fine (have tested with another and the same thing happens). The freezes have happened happen when doing the following...
    1. Orbiting in Sketchup
    2. Changing between windows in Finder
    3. Scrolling through the Console Window (ironically in a failed attempt to find out what was wrong...)
    4. Using the Space bar on a file on look at it quickly.
Does this sound like the GPU is shot? I have ordered a new 8800GT from the Apple Store in the meantime (we could always put it in another Mac Pro).
Has anyone encountered a similar problem before and if so, was there a fix?
    Thanks,
n.b. the Mac Pro is not covered by AppleCare and is out of warranty.
