Concurrent Editing Excel Workbook Sharepoint Online

I am having an issue that hopefully someone out there has some experience with.
We have a deployment of Sharepoint online working right now and we are running into an issue where Excel documents can only be edited by 1 person at a time. I need for those workbooks be be able to allow multiple people to get in to edit concurrently.
I have went through the options to share workbook but that doesn't seem to work.
What am I missing? It seems like Sharepoint should allow for this type of behavior.

Hi,
For your issue, there are some things you can try:
If you have Excel installed on your device, you can download the workbook and then open it in Excel.
If you have edit permissions to the workbook, you can try to
reduce the workbook's file size.
If you do have Power BI for Office 365 and the workbook contains a Data Model, you can check to see if the workbook is visible in
Power BI sites on Power BI for Office 365 and
enabled for web viewing.
If you don’t already have
Power BI for Office 365, you can sign up for it. Ask your administrator for help with this.

  • Reporting and exporting to Excel in SharePoint Online

    Hi
I've developed a SharePoint site to replace a legacy Access database that dealt with consumer complaints and queries. In the Access database I'd developed a feature that allowed users to filter the complaints by a number of criteria and export them to Excel
and I'm trying to do the same in SharePoint.
If it were on-premises SharePoint I'd just create a parameterised SSRS report which would solve all my problems. However being SharePoint online, this is not an option. I'd like the users to be able to select complaints from any date range, for any category
of complaint and for any product supplier (plus a few other criteria). The idea is that they want to be able to then send the filtered data to individual suppliers. Doing this out of the box with views throws up several problems. The main one is that any export
to Excel of a view exports the entire set of data, meaning that users themselves would need to create a new view for every export they wished to perform, which is not practical.
My question is: what is the best way in SharePoint online to export a filtered subset of a list to Excel?
I can use SharePoint designer, but not C# in order to achieve the goal. We also have SharePoint Online Plan 2 if that makes it easier.
    Thanks in advance,
    Duncan

  • Edit Excel in Sharepoint

I have documents saved in a document library in Sharepoint 2010.  I want to be able to have multiple users edit a Microsoft Excel document in Excel by opening a document from this Sharepoint document library.  I am able to change my settings to
allow multiple users to view and edit Excel documents in the browser.  But I am not able to have multiple users edit the same document at the same time in Excel itself.  Users are required to either wait until the current user finishes using the
document and/or check out the document in order to make changes.  Is there a solution to enable multiple users to edit an Excel document at the same time from a Sharepoint library?  Thanks.

Unfortunately, co-authoring is not supported for the Excel 2010 client application in SharePoint Server 2010.
    Check the following article.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff718249%28v=office.14%29.aspx
"The Excel 2010 client application does not support co-authoring workbooks in SharePoint Server 2010. Co-authoring workbooks in SharePoint
is supported by using the Microsoft Excel Web App, included with Office Web Apps. "

  • Collaborate on Excel workbooks with Sharepoint Foundation

My company recently implemented SharePoint Foundation 2013 and our shared Excel workbooks are no longer allowing multiple users to collaborate at the same time. We have verified that all the settings and permissions are correct and that checking in and
checking out is not required. Is this something that is not available with SharePoint Foundation? We are using Office 2013 installed on the clients, not Office online. Thank you.

Co-authoring of Excel workbooks is only supported when all the editors are using the Excel web application, not the Excel client application.
    From
    Microsoft's overview of co-authoring in SharePoint 2013:
    >"Co-authoring is easy to use from the end user’s point of view. When a user wants to work on a document in Word 2013, PowerPoint 2013, OneNote 2013, Visio 2013 or one of the Office Web Apps, he or she merely opens it from SharePoint 2013 or SharePoint
Online, as usual. If another user already has the document open, both users can edit the document at the same time.
One exception to this is that users can co-author in Excel Web App only if everyone uses the Excel Web App to access the workbook. If anyone uses Excel 2013 or Excel 2010 (the client application)
to access the workbook, co-authoring in Excel Web App will be disabled for that workbook while it is open in the client application."
    >"The Excel 2013 client application does not support co-authoring workbooks in SharePoint 2013 or SharePoint Online. But, the Excel client application uses the Shared Workbook feature to support non-real-time co-authoring workbooks that are stored
locally or on network (UNC) paths."

  • OData Feed Link Format for an Excel Workbook Stored in SharePoint

I've heard it is possible to use an OData Feed Link to get data from an Excel Workbook that is stored on SharePoint 2013 online. Does anyone know the format for the link? I've been searching high and low and cannot get any specific format that works. Thanks!

I received this from someone on our team:
In PQ, click From File -> From Excel.
In the file dialog that appears, paste in your site url (e.g. https://mycompany.sharepoint.com/teams/myteam).
The file dialog will display the files stored in your sharepoint site. Navigate until you reach the desired excel file.
    Select it and click done.
On the credential prompt, use Organizational.
Let me know if it works for you.

  • Data Connection to PowerPivot Workbook on Sharepoint Online

  • Update Excel to sharepoint and edit the data.

    Hi experts,
    Happy New Year to all,
I would like to know is it possible to update my excel sheet having 10 different fields (Columns) to share point, and edit them as a list. Want to know step by step procedure.
    My requirement is as below
I want to update the list of activities for each member of my team, in a excel in the first 5 columns and then upload to the share point daily, as my team members were placed in different locations, I want them to update their achivements
for the day in the next 5 respctive columns. By filtering on their names respectively. So that  I can check online and take the report back to excel whenevery i required.
    I want to know
    1) Step by step procedure I can upload the excel to share point
    2) is it possible to restrict the data on particular field, to respective users.
Request to let me know how i can achive.

Excel and SharePoint List does not allow two way sync it is only unidirectional.
You have to go by Scott's suggestions or else Office Web Apps which will allow excel Semiformal co-authoring (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/document-collaboration-and-co-authoring-HA101812148.aspx).
Here is how you can use the import Excel funcationality in SharePoint custom list.
    1. Define a table to your Excel Data and Save the excel file
    2. Go to your site, create a new list either using Site Settings or All site content menu, by selecting Import SpreedSheet
    3. select table in the import dialog box
SharePoint will create a new list with the excel data.
As per your requirement , the challenges that we have are -
"a excel in the first 5 columns and then upload to the share point daily"
You cannot reimport excel to a list as per your above requirement, there is only one way of importing to a list library and every time it will create a new list.
" I can check online and take the report back to excel whenevery i required."
You can export the list to excel file for processing offline and again there is no resync between Excel and List.
"is it possible to restrict the data on particular field, to respective users"
You can use item level permission for restricting user access to a list item or use SharePoint designer custom workflow to give item level access.

  • How to save edited data Workbook in Excel Web Access web part?

Hello All, I have one Workbook which is displayed on Excel Web Access web part in SharePoint 2013. If I edit data in workbook it is not getting saved. Am i missing anything here? please help.
    Thanks

    Hi,
We can click “OPEN IN EXCEL” to open and save the Excel file, then the edited data will be saved.
If you display a chart in Excel, we can create a InfoPath form to edit the excel Workbook, here is a blog for your reference:

  • Linked Excel files on Sharepoint Online

Has anyone found a work around to having linked excel files on SharePoint Online?
Right now in all my tests, SharePoint Online disables the links in my excel file to cells in another excel file and I cannot find anyway to change the links.
This is a pretty basic function that is used extensively in excel so I'm a little surprised that this is not available in SP Online.

    Hi,
According to your description, the links to other Excel files in the current Excel file not working if in a SharePoint Online environment.
In SharePoint, Excel files is handled by Excel Services. In SharePoint 2013, the “unsupported features continue to behave as they do in Office SharePoint Server 2007
    for Excel Services”:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff595319(v=office.15).aspx
Among the “Unsupported Features in Excel Services in SharePoint 2007”, “External references (workbooks that contain links to other workbooks)” is there:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms496823(office.12).aspx
As a workaround, I would suggest that you can transfer the data from Excel file to SharePoint list/library, it would be easier to deal with this scenario in SharePoint
with the content management related feature provided.
You can also submit a feedback to the Office Developer Platform with your expectation about the future version of SharePoint:

  • Excel Workbook with Excel Data Model stored on SharePoint - daily refresh

I'm not sure if this is exactly the right forum but I'm hoping that someone here can either answer or point me in the right direction.
I have an Excel Workbook with an Excel Data Model.
The Excel Data Model uses SQL to contact our data warehouse and pull through data into tables.
We are storing the Workbook on a SharePoint site and viewing it using Excel Services.
The data in our data warehouse is updated daily and so I would like to refresh the workbook daily and remove the option to refresh the data in the browser.
Is this possible with a workbook that has an Excel Data Model (I've seen lots of posts that relate to workbooks with connections to tabular models).
    Thanks

  • Visual Studio Community Edition - Error on creating ribbon for Excel Workbook project

Hi. I've been struggling with this for a couple of days now so I hope someone can help me.
I have installed Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition. On installation there was no option to include VSTO and, looking on various forums, I found it was necessary to install the VSTO - November 2014 update separately, which I have done. I'm working on a
brand new virtual server (Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) and no other versions of Visual Studio have been installed (although I'm surprised to see Visual Studio 2012 as an item in All Programs - but it just contains command prompts).
I have created an Excel Workbook project. When I go to create a new item - Ribbon (Designer) - I get the error:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common.Implementation, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
I've searched the Internet for anyone who might have had this same issue but have been unable to find anything to help me. I've tried uninstalling the VSTO-November Update and VS 2013 CE and reinstalling both but still the same problem.
Any help would be much appreciated!

What Office version do you have installed on the problematic machine?
Do you run Visual Studio as an administrator?

  • Reporting Services connecting to a PowerPivot Workbook hosted on Sharepoint Online

    Hi,
we developed a PowerPivot Workbook and published on our PowerBI site based on a Sharepoint Online E3 subscription.
We use it to display PowerView Dashboard and analyse sales results.
On-prem we also have a Reporting Services (stand alone installation) server where we have reports the connect directly to our datawarehouse based on a MS Sql Server DB instance.
What I would like to do is to develop a report in SSRS that connects to the PowerPivot Workbook published on our Sharepoint Online/Power BI site.
I tried following the instruction in this article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg413489(v=sql.110).aspx but using an URL like https://mycopmany.sharepoint.com/sites/BI/Documents/Workbook.xlsx and the correct Sharepoint Online credentials to access
the PowerPivot Workbook, I always get a "File Not Found" error.
I would like to know if what I would like to do is possible and how to do it.
