Concurrent Usage (Werid Question)

Good morning,
I have been tasked with trying to find out how we can restrict usage to multiple pools in VMware Horizon View. Here is the situation
Pool A has 3 machines
Pool B has 3 machines
Pool C has 3 machines
We can technically only have 3 of these machines in use at the same time (Licensing of the product we are using) so we need to restrict usage in a way that allows only 3 connections to these 3 specific pools, right?
We have written a program to take advantage of the direct connection feature in View. This works pretty well albeit when we designed it we did not envision it taking on this task so we would need to rewrite it some.
Is there something easy that I'm missing?

If you are using structural authorisations, then check the profile which is assigned to the role of the administrator in compnay B.
The structural profile assigned to the role should ideally call the functional module where the authorisations have been coded.
Tweaking this function module will help you to resolve the issue if you are using FM.
check with security team and ABAP guys to debug whiich profile its calling and inturn which FM its calling when user of company B is trying to do that.

I have a DW database partitioned by date. It is 9.2.0.6 on AIX. The report queries run great when executed at low concurrent usage. When we do a load test with high # of concurrent users, the same queries start taking a long time.
What could be the issue or resolution ?
The DB is about 64GB in size.

Hi,
the wait "db file sequential read" is a single block reading, typically an index access, having the index very selective, like a PK. I think You won't have real benefits changing the DB_FILE_MULTIBLOCK_READ_COUNT, to solve that problem, 'cause is it relevant only for "db file scattered read", typical on index FFS, index range scans or Tables FS, that is a multiblock read and benefit from it.
I suggest to change it anyway, to have a single read that is equal or a multiple of the stripe size or the size read at a time on the array (see HW docs).
Returnig to Your problem, You say that queries are hinted to use index and to acces a specific partition. The acces to a specific parttion should be solved by the oprtimizer, if there are valid statistics, and You should avoid it.
About indexes, are You sure that index access ar optimal for the Your access plan? Have You tryed to change the access plan using table access full (obviously pruned by the optimizer) instead? Or leave the optimizer decide the access path?
May be that this access will be better for an heavy load.
Can You test this way?

Problem in Concurrent usage

Hello friends
I have a group of 25 users in SAP BW 3.5 and I want them to create their own InfoArea. However the problem here is that when one starts creating his InfoArea, all the other users are denied access or locked i.e only one user can create a InfoArea at a time. How can I enable concurrent access so that all of them can create their InfoAreas at the same time.
As of now the roles assigned to the users are:
IDES_BW_ACRM_DEMO, IDES_BW_ALL, IDES_BW_CO_MANAGER, IDES_BW_RETAIL.

I am using std component HRASR00_EMPLOYEE_SEARCH in my custom comp. i craated view container ui element, and i done embed view. in view i created controller usage in used controllers of view. same part i done in component controller and window controller as well. but when i am trying to execute i am not getting component usage view?? i have to done any initialization for this component? anyone have any idea in this component?? please help me...

OBIEE usage tracking questions

Hi,
I am using OBIEE 11g and we enabled usage tracking.
Recently, i have observed that some inserts to S_NQ_ACCT table is failing due to "String literal too long" error.
We have configured VARCHAR(4000) for QUERY_TEXT column in physical layer which is causing issues since the executing query has more than 4k characters, I would like to configure in such a way that the insert should not fail and it should exceed with first 4k chars inserted.
The one way i can think of is, in physical layer importing as a view(with subtr() applied on query_text) in lieu of physical table.
Is there any other way i can achieve this?

Java Usage Concept Questions

I have a java Command line running program. Which allow input/edit data of clients and store them into a Flat file. The problem is that i have to make a GUI, ( a thin web based client ) and using only HTML and Javascript.
The next step is the db should be frontended by servlet or JSP that interact with thin client to perform the database retrievals.
Now my concept Questions:
1. Is it possible to communicate to a Java Program using HTML and Javascript? If so, any exampler, pointers?
2. I was thinking of using HTML and Javascript to directly modify the Database. ( Since it is a flat file therefore nothing more than a txt file ) But isn't this side stepping the problem?
3. If i could modify the Flat file using HTML and Javascript only. Why would i need JSP and Servlets? And if i could do it with JSP and Servlets only why would i need the think client ( HTML bit )?
If all of above 3 are correct ( conceptialy ), what is the orginal command line java program for?
The last question is why i think i have the concept wrong. Please i am new to web programming so feel free to point out any error.

You a little off on a few things. let me explain what each is used for to give you a better idea what each i used for.
HTML - Used to format data. Is static and can't do any File I/O and such
Javascript - Is usaually used for client side validation and some cool effects.
JSP - Is a scripting language that allows you to execute code on the server to create dynamic content and server side stuff like saving to a DB or a file
Servlets - Kinda like JSP but gives you more control over a few things. Usaually used for form processing and Servlet/Applet communication
for you application i would probably embed HTML/JavaScript for layout and validation into a JSP page for your display pages.. then build JSP pages to handle all you business logic and processing.

Concurrent user license question

I currently have the 10-client license for OS X Server 10.4.7
I have 3 users in the office and another 9 sales reps not in this office who only need occasional FTP access.
Does a user connected via FTP count as 1 of the client licenses? In other words, if the 3 of us in the office are connected via AFP to a share, does that mean we can have at most 7 FTP users at one time? There's a screen on the FTP service that says 'Allow a maximum of [50] concurrent users' by default... but I don't want to assume.

The 10-client limitation is for concurrent file-sharing users. It doesn't apply to web, ftp or other services. The screen you reference is for your own use in allocating server and bandwidth resources.

Concurrent employment authorization question

Hi people,
did anyone have experience with concurrent employment and structural authorization.
We have Holding company with 5 company codes and personal administrators can only see employees in their company.
But when employee is changing the company administrator from company B where employee is hiring cannot write the employees personnel number in IT 0000 field RFPNR (reference personnel number) from the company A where he worked before because structural authorization don't allow that.
All companies are in the same client.

Usage Meter Question

Ok, so I took the plunge on Tuesday and after a whole night of use I needed to recharge the battery on Wednesday morning. I was reading that the usage meter will turn on after the first complete charge cycle, so I was anxious to see this feature.
Charging went fine, and after it completed the phone did display usage and stand by time for a number of hours, until at some point late last night it suddenly went blank.
I haven't tried a new full charge since I haven't run the battery down that much at this point.
That being said I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue?? I searched the forums and saw some posts regarding the usage meter, but nothing like this.
The only thing that I did yesterday was turn the power off and back on, but I asked a friend to check this and the usage meter on the test phone kept clocking away.
Thoughts???

I actually posted a message like this but got no replies because no one had the same problem, but i guess there are a few people out there, I actually had the same problem when it randomly just started showing a few dashes, and after that I started having more problems. I got it to work by resetting it through iTunes and also by doing the whole reset through the phone, but days later the same problem occured, and i could never tell, eventually i started having battery problems and all that.
I actually just took it into the Apple store for the second time today, because the first time i took it in they did a instore reset, but what happened was that it showed i had 8 hours of usage time, with a full battery, right when i took it off the charger when i had fully charged it...
...the guys at the at Apple store ran some tests and found that it was a problem from the manufacturers, so they did the simple three day shipping of a new one, and I don't know if you're okay with that, but it worked out pretty well for me because they're sending me a whole new phone, thats my suggestion for you because it sounds like we had the same problem, and mine just progressively got worse.

Concurrent File Read Question

Hi:
I am writing a multi-thread program to read from one large file. Different thread will read different part of the file so they do not interfere.
I am considering using the java.nio's memory-mapped I/O since the file is pretty large. But I cannot find any document regarding
the thread-safeness of the API.
Suppose the file is mapped to a MappedByteBuffer, and two threads issue two gets() operations concurrently, can the two gets() run concurrently or the second one has to be blocked until the first one returns, or even worse, incorrect result may be returned?

You don't know what flock() and flock16() function are in Platform OS's.Your guesswork about the extent of my knowledge is just as uninformed and irrelevant as everything else you've posted here. You're certainly in no position to lecture me about flock() when you don't know what it does yourself.
So a very good clue about java thread-safeness implicitly is java.nio.channels.FileChannel methods for locking and locking zones of a file.In other words you haven't even read the Javadoc for the solution you're recommending. The quotation in Roy's post above shows that FileLock cannot possibly be the solution to any threading problem.
The rest of your posting is equally irrelevant and erroneous. I wrote a paper criticising the semantics of lockf(), now flock(), in 1984. Whatever flock16() may be, Google doesn't know what it is either. Both are irrelevant. Every OS I have ever used allows concurrent reads to a file, unless you lock it. Neither Unix nor Windows has a 'VM level'. The 'JVM base drivers' are a figment of your imagination. There are no drivers in the JVM. What you're talking about is just the JVM.
The OP's 'main worries' are precisely this: whether it is thread-safe to read a file via multiple threads via a MappedByteBuffer. He has no need to lock the file and it wouldn't solve this problem even if he did. It wouldn't solve any problem unless there were simultaneous writers to the file, which he hasn't mentioned.
He may need to synchronize the threads against each other because MappedByteBuffer isn't documented to be thread-safe (although I suspect that the methods that take an offset argument actually are).
Most of this has already been stated above, before you appeared in the discussion. You're just wasting time and space with your erroneous and irrelevant contributions. You've been warned about this before and you've been blocked before on account of it. Moderators are watching this thread and your other postings.

Concurrent job executable question

Hi,
I need to modify a report run under the concurrent job called Planning Detail Report. Normally, when the executable is an Oracle report I can find it on the server, but this report executable method is setup at "Spawned" and I am not sure how to find the code behind this report. Can someone please tell me where to find this?

Spwaned program are found in the bin directory.
Since planning detail report is under MRP, you will find it under $MRP_TOP/bin
Oracle gives only executable for spawned programs; you do not get the source code. And it is almost impossible to modify these programs.
However, you can make some attempt to gleam at the logic. In the past, I have run strings command on spawned executable to sneak some peeks into Oracle's logic. I was lucky enough to find what I needed but that is not guaranteed.

Thread concurrency - spin lock question

Hi everyone,
I want to enforce some concurrency in my code so that only 5 threads are running at a time. This is quite easy to do, but I just want to know if it would be more efficent to have a spin lock like this:
while( nActiveThreads >= 5 ){ }
or have some kind of sleep method in the loop so that it's not continually spinning in the loop and only checks every 50 milliseconds.

I recommend looking at the java.util.concurrent package, specifically at Executors and ExecutorService classes. You can choose from several different types of thread scheduler, telling them how many threads you with them to use.

Email usage settings question

I'm trying to upgrade to iOS8 but my mail is showing usage of 4.7GB despite only about 30 emails in my account? Any idea why it shows that it's taking up so much space?

In Address Book, when you created the "Other Group" did you add to it by dragging and dropping from the Contacts column onto the new group?
When setting up new contacts select the new group before adding the contact. It will appear in All Contacts automatically.
Open Address Book
Select Help and enter Groups and it will show all the information you need

HP 3800Dn color usage log question

We're trying to track usage on our HP 3800Dn, using the color usage log for information. However, many of the jobs are shown with no username, thus providing no information as to the source of the printing.
Does anyone know why no user would appear (other users do appear, so it sometimes works) in the log?

SQL Developer usage (newbie) question - using for script development

I'm new to Oracle, but not to SQL (used MS SQL Server off and on for 3 years prior). SQLDeveloper (v1.5.1) was recommended as a dev tool for the work that I'm doing in in Oracle 10.2.0.4. I'm looking to write some scripts to eventually become stored procedures. The problem I'm having is it seems i can only execute one line even though there are multiple statements in the "Enter SQL Statement" window pane.
ie.
select id, Full_Name, unique_name, user_id from srm_resources;
select id, user_name, last_name, first_name from cmn_sec_users;
when i highlight those two lines and click the "Excecute Statement" button, only the top line generates results.
I'm used to using MS SQL's Query Analyzer where I could select one statement or multiple statements to execute, even non-SELECT statements (variable assignments, math, control loops). It does not appear that I have this kind of functionality in SQL Developer - or an I not using the tool correctly?

I'm assuming you're meaning the SQL worksheet here. The green arrow icon is execute statement (F9) The tiny green arrow is execute script (F5). I'm currently on 1.5.4 of SQL Developer.

Is this a standard one-hour report, and does it cross the peak hour of the graph you published, and is it for the same node ?
There are several anomalies here, not the least of which is that your event percentages don't get close to 100%.
To me the thing that really stands out as a possible source of your problems is the 8,386 executions per second - if there has been a recent dramatic change in performance, it may be related to this.
I'd be taking a quick look at the SQL ordered by CPU and SQL ordered by Executions sections of the report for any clues.
I'd also be cross checking the Time model and OS statistics, and instance activity CPU details to see if they were consistent with the Event figures.
