Conducting Survey Assessing Satisfaction with Project Scheduling Software

Hello,
I am an MBA student at Harvard Business School. I am conducting a survey about Project Scheduling software. The purpose of the survey is to establish whether existing software is meeting the needs of Project Managers. I would greatly appreciate your help.
The survey will take about 5 minutes to complete. It is applicable to anyone who manages a schedule for more than a few hours a month.

I have a MacBook pro version 10.6.7 with snow leopard. After an scheduled software upgrade I could not open Quicken (It said it could not open the files). Now I can only open it if I have my external drive on. Can you help?
All the information that I had input on Quicken is gone. I have to have the external hard drive that I use to back up to be able to use quicken now. It is as if it was erased from the laptop hardrive

Try repairing permissions. My favorite way is with a utility called AppleJack. Info and download here. It's free. It only works when you boot in Single User Mode. When restarting or booting, hold down the Command key and S keys.
You will get a very different startup screen that looks like the Terminal app has hijacked the screen. Just let the lines of text scroll by. When that happens you will get a text entry prompt. Type in "AppleJack" without the quotation marks.
A DOS looking menu will appear. Choose 1 or d to run Disk Repair. If you get a message that Disk Repair found and corrected errors, run it again. Repeat until you get the "your disk appears to be ok" message. This rarely happens with my experience, though. This does the same thing as as booting from an external drive and running Disk Utility's repair. Only, no external drive is required!
Next, choose 2 or p to repair disk permissions. This will take a little while. AppleJack warns that it will take up to an half hour to run repair permissions. It'n never taken more than about ten minutes for my MacBook Pro.
As permissions are repaired, you will see each repair scroll on the screen. When done, the menu returns, choose q to quit. Then at the prompt, enter "exit" without the quotes. Your MacBook Pro should restart into Mac OS normally after this.
    Hope this helps.

  • Survey about open source projects

    Hello,
I'm conducting a survey about how open source projects are organized.
It's part of the www.openeo.biz community initiative which goal is to
research organizational structures of open source projects and
business models of companies related to them.
Could I kindly ask you to help us spread the word about this survey
among open source project maintainers related to Adobe.
Is there perhaps any other forum or mailing list on which it would be
appropriate to post this information ?
The survey takes about 15 min and is available at:

which project would you recommend me?I'd recommend starting a lot smaller. Work through the basic tutorials. When you have all of them working, try creating a small program of your own. Work your way up.

  • Student needing some questions answered about Manufacturing Scheduling software

    Greetings;
I am a undergraduate senior at Arizona State University majoring in Supply Chain Management. I am currently doing a project about Oracle's Manufacturing Scheduling option and have a few general questions for those of you that have used the software and/or involved with its implementation. Your help is greatly appreciated. If you are uncomfortable releasing your company's name that is fine. If you do not want to post the answers here, I can also be emailed at rmkraus"SAYNOTOSPAMBOTS"@asu.edu. Thank you!!
    The questions I have are:
What is your experience with the manufacturing scheduling software?
What is/was your role with the software?(ie buyer, consultant, user, technical support, etc)
How do you feel about the software's ease of use?
What training did you recieve or did your company offer?
How much did implementing the software approxiamately cost?
What do you feel are the advantages of the software?
What do you feel are the disadvantages of the software?
Did your company have any problems during the implementation?
Has your company experienced cost savings due to the software?
Have you or your company used any competing software in the past?
Any other insight that you would like to share?
Thank you, I greatly appreciate your help.

    Im not sure on 5
I know it's unusual, but if your project budget is
good you may have more than one constructor. At least
that's what I thoughtach.. you poor fellow, you are confused now aren't you.
i bet taht in the fifth question they are talking about 'constructor methods', not procrammers who are constructing the code (or 'contractors')
if your budget allws then you may even have three or 87 contractors, but that's not the case here.
i hope that clarifies things a bit.
and PS! i don't like when people intentionally give bad solutions to others.

  • Can Project Lite be used with "Project Online with Project Pro for O365"

    Hello MS Support,
I am aware that Project Lite does not functions as a stand alone, it either works with Project Online or Project Server. However, I wanted to check and be very sure before buying, if Project Lite will work equivalently well with "Project Online with
    Project Pro for O365".
    Project Lite:
    https://products.office.com/en-IN/project/compare-microsoft-project-management-software
Project Online with Project Pro for Office 365:
    https://products.office.com/en-us/project/project-online-with-project-pro-for-office-365
Prompt reply will be a great help.
    Regards,
    Urvashi

    Urvashi:
Project Lite grants access to update timesheets and tasks only. You cannot use Project Pro to connect to Project Online with this license. Everyone who manages schedules using Project Professional or Project Pro for Office 365 must have a full license for
Project Online and a license for Project Pro. Project Lite is not a license that applies to on-premises installations. For that you acquire a different type of license.

  • Error with Loading Device Software on 8700 AT&T phone.

Hi. I would like some help with my 8700 AT&T refurb blackberry phone.  When I tried to download the device software (v4.5) to my already downloaded DTM (v4.6), it gave me an error message I did not know what to do with.
I want to synch my organizer data (calendar, contacts) from older desktop (Outlook 2002) to my new laptop (Outlook 2007, Windows 7).  I am having trouble downloading the supporting device software.  I keep getting an error message that reads "Error with the Application Loader.  Cannot update software using this system as device is currently activated on a blackberry Enterprise Server or professional software.  Contact administrator or check with service provider."  I do not use Enterprise.  I don't have an internet service plan for my phone as I use it only for calendar and contacts.  AT&T gives the software option for AT&T 8700 in English device software as v4.1.0.175 as the only option that is supported by my current platform (2.0.0.90).  Is this right?
All I really want to update my phone with the latest software that supports Outlook 2007 on my new laptop.  What do I need to make that happen?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there!
Refurbs can be problematic. If a BB was ever activated on BES, then it has an IT Policy. IT Policies are not removed by the standard WIPE actions. Rather, they take additional steps to clean off the Policy.
Just to check, please go to this screen:
Homescreen > Options > Security Options > (Information) or (General Settings) or (something similar)
On that screen will be some selection boxes plus other sections (divided by horizontal lines). If, on that screen, there is any discussion about IT Policy (even if it says "Default"), then you indeed have an IT Policy on your BB. (The screen may also have a section for "Services").
If you don't have an IT Policy, then something else is going on...in which case, stop here and report back exactly what you found on that screen.
If you do have an IT Policy, then, in my view, you have two choices.
    1) Since this refurb was provided to you by ATT, they did not deliver to you a "clean" device. You could take it back to them and have them clean the IT Policy off.
    2) You can remove the Policy yourself. The process is 100% destructive to the data on the BB, so you'll want to be sure you've already taken a good full backup. Then use Method 3 in this KB.
As for what device OS to install, you have more choices than you indicated. See this page:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/browseSoftware.do;jsessionid=0A15EC28AEC181D3F3F9C5235D9F166A.n...
Select, from the drop-down, your model (8700). The resulting screen shows that ATT is currently supporting 4.5.0.182 (MultiLanguage) for your BB model. The MultiLanguage pack will include English, so you don't have to fall all the way back to the English only version. So, you have choices. The best advice is to use the most recent version -- bug fixes, enhancements, and all of that.
What I advise, since you want to use Outlook 2007, is to use that 4.5.0.182 package for your BB and the most recent RIM desktop package (5.0.1.28). That way, you will have full compatibility for what you are looking for.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Best project management software for mac

Does anyone have any recommendations for the best project management software or strategic planning software for imac??
    Thanks

If you are willing to spend money on professional tool with free support, if the team get's large, I would ask you to look at ConceptDraw Project. If you are dead set on open source and "free" software I would say that Redmine, Bugzilla or any other that has been around a while, and looking for plugins to make it suit your needs is one of your best bets.

  • Project Management Software Options

Does anyone know of good project management software? I recently joined an advertising firm and am responsible for scheduling projects and keeping track of client info. What I need is a program or programs that will allow me to track projects, schedule due dates, etc. and enter client info and keep track of client daily interactions (phone calls, faxes, meetings).
If you're using something you like please let me know. Any suggestions are appreciated.

No, I coudn't find an appropriate forum. I wanted to post it on a general software discussion but couldn't find one. Sorry, I'll try elsewhere.

  • Pixel Aspect CS4 is no compatible with other systems/softwares

If you make a video with a circle twisting around itself in CS4 in a comp like dvpal (PAR 1,09) and export to other system like smoke, flame, avid, final cut, When import, the video is ok, but if you want twist de video around itself (IN SOME OF THIS SYSTEMS) the circle deforms like an oval or an egg. This dont occur if you do the circle in previous after effects with PAR 1,07 because the settings match with the other systems (avid, etc). The same deformations occur whit if you make a circle in a still image. Make a circle in CS4 in DVPAL (1,09) and export like still image, import and rotate in other software (avid, finalcut, smoke, etc.), it look like an egg. So what happen with this? This new Pixel aspect is no compatible with the other softwares!. This is bad!!!What's the solution? Must wait for the correction in all the other softwares? I don't think so. Sorry my english. Thank's. Diego (Argentina)

    Diego,
Can you post a screen shot of this error showing in a flame?
Please note that the presets in CS4 are just that; presets that you can easily change or ignore. If you're working with a system that dislikes the correct values; by all means use the old values when you're setting up and rendering your AE project.
The CS4 PAR values are technically correct, it's just that the industry have been ignoring the "blanking" in video for all these years.

Re: Macbook Pro 10.6.8 RAM Upgarde to 8 GB
The amount of RAM is not dependant on the operating system. It is all about the model of you Mac.
10.6.8 is the version of OS X that is installed on your system. It has no real baring on the amount of RAM that CAN be installed.
Personally I have never had good luck with Corsair RAM. I have always had good luck with Crucial and Kingston.

  • Third Party Scheduling Software BPC 7.0

I'm curious if anyone out there uses anything other than Data Manager/Windows Scheduler to run and schedule jobs in their version of BPC.  As our companies design currently stands we run multiple job on a very frequent schedule and could benifit from a more robust scheduler that uses dependencies.  If anyone has any ideas or has ventured down this road please lend a helping hand.
    Thanks,
    Mark

I don't know if I'm missing something here or if we aren't on the same page....
I want to completely rid myself from using DM/Windows Scheduler because of it's simplicity and use some other form of scheduling software that's more robust.  For example, in some of our development environments we've played around with using SQL Agent (SQL Server's Scheduler) to run jobs for BPC application sets.  This works for jobs created without BPC custom controls(logic task, send mail task, Dump Load Task, etc.) but fails when we try to use them.  What we've deduced is that SQL Agent, being installed on our DB server, can't talk with the BPC custom controls that reside on the application server.  What we've tried....
    1) installing the custom controls on the DB server which entails knowing what .dll files need to accompany the controls and registering them properly.  This was a headache and even with SAP's help was a dead end.

  • InDesign Project Management Software

We are working with inDesign CS4 on a 80 page field services industry publication.  We are struggling keeping articles and advertisements managed before, during and after editing and layout.  Does anyone now of a project management software for magazine publications?

    Hi Mitch,
I've spent the last few years researching software project management solutions in another specialized field, and I think that you're missing the boat when you're thinking about software. If you don't know how to manage the information you already have with just whiteboards & manilla folders and the like, you're going to be at a severe disadvantage when trying to shop around for a prefab database that will manage your workflows on your behalf.
Check out this discussion of PM tactics; there's some good food for thought.
    http://www.edwardtufte.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=000076
Of course, if your information is already in disarray, and your workflows are already being pushed along manually, then of course the idea of managing it with software is appealing. However, you'll best be able to ask those questions ("How are y'all doing it? Because we're doing it with hand-drawn Gantt charts on whiteboards") if you already have a system. If you don't already have a system that you want to replace, then you're best off hiring someone who is not only a DB dev but who is also familiar with the ins and outs of project management. That person can spend a few days/weeks learning what you have instead of a workflow, and can then build a software-based workflow around your organization's activities.
With about 35 ads and 45 articles we are having a hard time keeping up with what has been received from contributors and writers, whats in layout, 2nd edits, 3rd edits etc.... and feel we need something to help us stay organized outside what inDesign does.
As a database-workflow-managin' pro, it's my feeling that you don't need something, you need someone. And that someone is the person to ask, "How do I shop for a software-based workflow management app?"

  • Which project management software is best, which project management software is best

Which project management software is best for my macbook pro?

In order to give you a solid recommendation, we'd need to know what needs you have.
What type of project are you planning on managing?
    What size of team?
    Timeline?
    Extent?
What are some things you need to manage (emails, phone calls, stages, tasks, phases, etc)?
Without any of this, it's hard to give you a recommendation, as EVERYTHING will work on your MacBook Pro, especially if you have Windows dualbooted.
However, I can tell you that the best project management software I've used to date (and continue using) is JobNimbus. It's both CRM and project management software, very easy to use, and the pricing is way lower than others I've seen.
Give that a try (they have a 30-day trial) and try to reply back with more info so we can help you out a little bit better.
    Cheers

  • Project management software advice

Hello - I work for a small company - half Mac users and half PC - and we need to get project management software which is compatible with MS Project - any advice please? Cheers Simon

    Try
    Merlin
    <http://projectwizards.net/en/merlin/>
    You can also try
    Open Project
    <http://sourceforge.net/projects/openproj/>
but I don't know if it's still in active development. OmniPlan can import MS Project files, but I don't know if that's practical for your needs.
In a Mac/Win environment, the only practical solution may be to run MS Project in a virtual machine like Parallels or Fusion, or perhaps virtualised with CrossOver.
