Configuration of VPN in WRVS4400N?

Hi!
I'm quite new to this remote access and VPN overall, so please give me easy enough instructions...;^)
I'm just bought the Cisco (Linksys) WRVS4400N Wireless-N Gigabit Security Router - VPN v2.0.
I'm trying to configure it to provide a remote access using VPN to a PC within LAN.
WRVS4400N is attached to a ADSL modem.
First I registered it to dyndns.org to get a "fixed" IP with success. Then I created a VPN user, again with success.
Finally I tried to create a IPSec VPN Tunnel between a laptop running Linksys (Cisco) QuickVPN client and the WRVS4400N but no success so far...;^(
Tha laptop is connected to Internet via 3G modem and doesn't have fixed IP.
I haven't figured what I should fill in the Remote Group Setup. On the Local Group Setup I filled Local Security Gateway type as "IP only + FQDN", Domain name the registered DynDNS name and got the WAN IP address, Local Security Group Type "IP Addr." and to IP Address I gave a IP address which in free within LAN.
Now I don't know what I should fill in the fields of Remote Group Setup???
Thanks!!!

  • How do I configure a VPN Site and Subnets in Lync when clients have /32 Addresses?

    Hello,
I've found a few people asking this question out in the "interwebs" but no one seems to quite answer their question (Those poor souls).
In most occasions that I've seen, my customers have configured their VPN networks with a /24 (255.255.255.0) ip address.  However, when those clients connect to the VPN they are actually getting a /32 (255.255.255.255) address.
This seems to pose an issue for Lync reporting when it comes to configuring a VPN site and VPN subnets.
(NOTE:You might ask why these customers are not going about best practice and using split-tunneling?  In this case, they absolutely CANNOT institute split-tunneling so all traffic MUST flow through the VPN tunnel.)
For example sake, here is how I would imagine to setup a VPN site with subnets in Lync Network Configuration:
    VPN (Site)
        -172.16.33.0  /24 (Subnet)
        -172.16.34.0  /24 (Subnet)
        -172.16.35.0  /24 (Subnet)
The problem is that when I run a Location Report in Lync to look at call data to/from the VPN site, it's not there. Reason being, the VPN client was given a /32 address which doesn't match up to the /24 I configured in Lync.
So, in my mind my options are:
Create a /32 subnet for each single address corresponding to a VPN client and attach them to the VPN site (What a mess).
Change the subnet mask for the 3 subnets I've defined to /32 instead of /24 and see what happens even though putting an IP address of 172.16.33.0 /32 doesn't make much sense.
Remove the subnets and site from Lync because CAC and Bandwidth control are actually useless over VPN.
    Any thoughts on this?

    Jin,
/32 addresses are a valid subnet mask, however that means that a host with a IP Address of 192.168.23.4 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255 (/32) is the ONLY host on that subnet.
The VPN configuration is correct.  The /32 mask is common with a Juniper VPN  (which is what they are using) and the DHCP server that is handing out the addresses is the Juniper VPN appliance.
They have already started working out a plan to use a different internal DHCP relay which should hand out the addresses correctly.
There has to be someone else out there with this issue or that can point out that i'm overlooking one key principal with VPN subnets.
    Anyone?

  • Possibility to configure Freedome VPN connection on unsupported devices

I have this idea, which I think would be useful in this world of many different OSes:
I suggest that you would make it possible to, for example, configure the VPN connection on Windows Phone. Windows Phone has the possibility to configure VPN profiles at the settings, and so do many other OSes that are not supported by Freedome. This would also solve the problem of having no VPN on Linux. Of cource it wouldn't be as easy as pressing a big button, but many privacy-aware users would benefit from it.

    Hi Jay,
So, when you say you need to connect your website to your Local Network, is your website a Paas instance or a IaaS instance, i.e., website hosted in a VM using IIS?
Do you have a single instance of the website or multiple instances that have been added to a VNET and need to be connected to the On-Premise Network?
What VPN device are you using to connect Azure to On-Prem?
If you have one website instance that needs to connect to an On-prem network Point-to-Site (P2S) connection would make sense. However, if you have multiple instances of your website in a VNET you would need a Site-to-Site (S2S) connection.
Please be advised that only devices that support Dynamic Routing Gateway would work when configuring P2S connections.

  • Configuring Hardware VPN with Verizon modem/router

    Hi-
I'm a Northern VA FIOS subscriber. Verizon provided the following:
    Modem: Zyxel Prestige 861
    Wireless Router: Actiontec MI424WR
This setup has been working fine.
My job recently gave me a hardware VPN: Netgear ProSafe VPN Firewall, Model FVS338
I'm having a bit of difficulty setting it up the way I'd like.
    1) In general, should I connect the HW VPN directly into a free port of the Modem (parallel with the router), or should I connect it into the Router? (Does Verizon support multiple devices connected to the Modem, or do they expect us to connect everything via the router?)
    2) I tried a number of different configurations, and the only way I was able to get the hardware VPN to function was to disconnect the router, connect the VPN box in its place, and configure the VPN box to mimic/use the MAC address of the router. This provided connectivity to the work network, but is not acceptable because I need the wireless home network provided by the router as well.
Does anyone have any recommendations for how to set this up properly?
    Many thanks.
    -Steven
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    From actiontec.com
Can I use the Actiontec Gateway or Router to connect to my employers VPN so that I can work from home?
Yes, the Actiontec Routers and Gateways support connecting to VPN servers. By default, Actiontec Routers and Gateways allow Client VPN traffic to pass-through. (the Actiontec will allow a connected PC to "pass-through" and connect to a remote VPN server).
NOTE: Unless otherwise specified, Actiontec Routers and Gateways do not function as VPN endpoints. They cannot make a VPN connection directly to a VPN server, router or client. The reverse is also true, VPN routers, servers and clients cannot make a VPN connection directly to the Actiontec Router itself. (Some of the proprietary VPN applications require specific ports be opened in the Actiontec, for a successful connection. Not all VPNs use the same ports, so determine the ports used by your VPN software before attempting to forward the ports.)
did you set up the pptp port forwarding rules ?  you should have l2tp (1701) protocol and pptp (1723) port forwarding protocol for port forwarding.
the preconfigured vpn rules should be fine.

Tools->Internet Options->Connections->LAN Settings and tick the box "do not use proxy for local/intranet addresses" When I click on the "Lan Setting"
I get three check boxes that are located in two areas called Automatic configuration and Proxy Server:
    Automatic configuration
    [] Automatically select setting
    [] use automatic configuration script
    Proxy server
[] use a proxy server for your lan these setting will not apply to dial-up or VPN connection
At present none of these are selected.
So thus there is none to say "do not use proxy for local.intranet addresses" please help.

  • WVRS4400N wireless router - What do i need to configure for VPN software to work?

    Hi,
My VPN software can't establish connection ever since i changed to the WVRS4400N router.  What do i need to configure inorder to establish a VPN connection to the outside network?
On a side note, i am not sure if i am on the right track but i read a little bit about setting IPSec Pass-Through.  If this is the case, do i really need to get all the remote connection information inorder for my VPN software to work?  And under Key Management setting, what would my pre-shared key use for (assuming this is a key i generated)?
Better yet, how can i get the vpn software to work with only having access to the internet without going through alot of hassle???
Thanks ahead for any solutions given...

    Thank you for responding.
If i am not mistaken, i believe what you are suggesting is setting up a VPN connection to my local area network and use the bundled Quick VPN client software to connect.
I currently have Sentinel VPN software on my laptop and it is configured to have access to my work's network. In most cases, i am able to connect to work without a problem as long as i have internet connection. Apparently, my vpn doesn't work when i am running it behind the WVRS4400N router. This problem didn't occur with my previous router. I believe the WVRS4400N router is blocking the connection by default. What can i do or configure to resolve this?

  • Need help about VPN and WRVS4400N and WRT350N

    Hi,
I wanted to know if I can set up a server on in my house so people can access it from the internet? and for that would i need a WRVS4400N router or is the WRT350N router enough for it?because i was reading about the VPN option in the WRVS4400N router. Thanks for looking and all the help.

Which people? VPN is a good option if you need secure access for a small group of known people to the server. For a public, general access server it is of no benefit, though. Any router would do there.
But I generally only recommend to run servers like ftp servers to people you know something about networking, computer administration, security, etc. If you run an open server in the internet it can be accessed (and will be accessed) by all kinds of people. It is your responsibility to maintain an up-to-date and well secured system that prevents other people of abusing the server. It is also your responsibility to monitor the server for indication of abuse and immediately take actions if you find that there was an intrusion. You can read the stories in the internet of people which rather naive run a server open in the internet and had to deal with the police after their computer had been used to spread illegal materials.
Most people are just happy when they manage to get it working somehow and forget that once the server is up and running the real work has just begun...

  • Configuring MPLS VPN using static routing

    Hi,
I am managed to set up a BGP/MPLS VPN in a laboratory using CS3620 routers running IOS 12.2(3) with ISIS. I am thinking of using static routes among the PE and P routers instead of a IGP. Does anyone know if Cisco routers supports static configuration of LSP? I have tried but could not get it work.

You can very well run MPLS with static routing in the core, as in Cisco we have to meet 2 criterias to have a MPLS forwarding Table.
    1) Creating the LIB
This thing lies in having LDP neighborship netween two peers and you have Label bindings.
This is irrespective of what is the best next hop to reach the advertising peers LDP_ID.
    2) Creating the LFIB
Now after considering all the Label bindings, the LDP_ID which can be reached out an interface
as a next hop, those Label bindings get installed in the LFIB.
So considering the above two points, we have to be careful in static routes
only for interfaces like Ethernet (Multiaccess Segments).
As in CEF when you give a static route pointing to an Ethernet Interface, CEF creates a
GLean Adjacency (Meaning there could be multiple hosts as the next hop on this segement, and it will glean for the right next-hop)
Now you may observe that when you give a static route only pointing to an Ethernet interface,
you LDP adjacency may come up and you may exchange the bindings with each other. But the Label Forarding Table is not created. This is bcos of this being a Multiaccess interface. And you have
Glean For it. If its a Normal WAN interface like Serial or POS, then there is no problem of
GLean and you would have a Valid Cached Adjacency.
So to avoid probelems with Ethernet interfaces you can simply specify the next-hop-ip address.
For Eg: ip route 10.10.31.250 255.255.255.255 10.10.31.226 (Without the Interface)
ip route 10.10.31.250 255.255.255.255 fa0/0 10.10.31.226 (Or with the Interface)
Only Difference in both is in the first one it has to do a recursive lookup for the outgoing interface. Otherwise both work well. And you can have static routes in your network
    running MPLS.
And doing this CEF would would work as it should and you would have a Valid Cached Adjacency.
So this is applicable for Cisco devices which use CEF, including 6500 with SUP720.
    HTH-Cheers,
    Swaroop

  • Outgoing VPN through WRVS4400N Frustration

I have a WRVS4400N (firmware 1.00.16) as my router at home and I have several machines connected to it. One of those machines is my work laptop which connects to my company's network using the standard Windows XP VPN client. The VPN connection stays up fine but frequently, traffic will stop running over the VPN. The strange thing is if I use my *OLD* BEFSR41 router, I have absolutely no problems with the VPN connection.
Is this a known issue? Is there anything I can do about it (besides reverting to my old router)? Are any firmware upgrades planned to address this? Does the WRT350N suffer from the same problems?
Any help or advice will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Damian.

I already tried reflashing the firmware and that didn't help either. I used two official versions, and one unofficial version and none of them behave any differnetly in this regard.
In the hope that someone from Linksys is reviewing this forum, here is a little more detail:
This problem seems to occur when I use one application in particular: SourceOffSite. Now my guess is that this particular app opens and closes TCP ports frequently and this has some sort of effect opn the VPN tunnel. I don't see the tunnel locking up when I use RDP for example (which keeps the ports open).
Please help! I don't want to have to go back to my old router!

  • Configuring a VPN

I had a VPN set up for me on my iMac and a MacBook pro to connect with work. After a major problem with Time Capsule which was eventually sorted the VPN on my iMac no longer worked, showing "VPN Not Configured" This did not happen on my MacBook and I have no idea how to reconfigure the iMac VPN setup and certainly do not want to run the risk of recreating any problem with Time capsule. I have been directed towards various videos on how to set up but I cannot even read the script on them!
    Any easy suggestions anybody?

The Time Capsule (TC) is a VPN "passthrough" device. As such, the issue is most likely the VPN client configuration on your iMac. If you are using both Macs to access your work's VPN, I would suggest reviewing how the MacBook is configured, and then, mimic the configuration settings on your iMac.
OS X supports VPN (ref: System Preferences > Network), but most likely, your company provides you with a specific VPN client ... or, at least, the proper configuration settings necessary to access their VPN server. Worst case, I would also suggest that you contact your company's IT department for assistance.
