Configure Network (Ethernet Cards) interfaces doubts.

Hi All,
I m beginner in Solaris/Unix, and I have same problems in configure my network.
I have one machine with 2 Ethernet Cards, this machine has multiboot, than it have Solaris 10 and Windows XP.
I will show the configuration that I have on Window,I need the same configuration in Solaris:
In eth0:
IP: 192.168.0.117 (In Solaris the name of this is in ifconfig is IP, OK?)
Mask: 255.255.255.0 (In Solaris the name of this is in ifconfig is
netmaks , OK?)
Gatway: 192.168.0.254 (In Solaris the name of this is in ifconfig broadcast, OK?)
Primary DNS: 192.168.0.254 (In Solaris I dont know how configure this)
Secondary DNS: void (In Solaris I dont know how configure this)
I Have an DHCP Server in 192.168.0.254, than I can use dhcp.
The problems, When I try use DHCP:
Ifconfg eth0 DHCP
This command delay and return an Error.
If Itry configure manually, like
Ifconfg eth0 192.168.0.117 (this OK)
Ifconfg eth0 netmask 255.255.255.0 (this OK)
Ifconfg eth0 broadcast 192.168.0.254 (here the 254 is changed to 255 that is broadcast default, but in my net broad cast or router is in 254)
Other thing how I save this configuration. When I restart I lost all changes
Well in second interface the problem is same, but I didnt have DHCP:
IP: 200.44.136.145 (In Solaris the name of this is in ifconfig is IP, OK?)
Mask: 255.255.255.192 (In Solaris the name of this is in ifconfig is netmaks , OK?)
Gatway: 200.44.136.129 (In Solaris the name of this is in ifconfig broadcast, OK?)
Primary DNS: 4.2.2.2 (In Solaris I dont know how configure this)
Secondary DNS: void (In Solaris I dont know how configure this)
fconfg eth1 200.44.136.145 (here .44 is changed to 36)
Any one can help-me please?
Thanks

yes. you got it .... eg..
/etc/hostname.le0
/etc/hostname.le1
in here put the hostname ... so at the shell prompt:
# hostname <cr>
should give your hostname.
now, in the hosts file: eg:
# Internet host table
127.0.0.1     localhost
<your ip address> <your hostname>     loghost
129.156.89.252 host2
you need to reboot after this.
if you get a 'bad address' error on boot,
you probably have a mismatch of hostnames/ip addresses somewhere in their respective files.
also, see:
# man hosts
# man ifconfig

  • Configuring RTL8019 Ethernet Card

I'm installing Solaris 8 for PC and would like to use my RTL8019 Chip based Ethernet Card. However it seems that solaris do not support it. I can config thet ethernet card as NE2000 Compatible, but this model is also not supported.
Is it possibkle that solaris for intel doesn't support these ethernet card ? is there someone that has a driver for it ?
    Thanks

    Hi Karim,
You check the intel solaris 8 hardware compatibility list with your NIC card.

  • Ethernet card - work in install, not after

    Hello guys,
I'm trying to set up a server on a Compaq Deskpro EN Series SSF (PII 400). I've install ArchLinux the FTP way and it have worked well. But afer the second reboot, total network blackout. I tried to load the module of my ethernet card by rc.conf, no changes. I think it may be a matter of module option. But I don't know what option might be good.
If there is a way to see how the install script of ArchLinux configures the ethernet card (by the automatic way) this problem might be solved quickly.
The key question here is : Why does it work during the installation, but not after the second reboot.
P.S. : I had the same problem with Mandrake with the same computer.

Nobody ever reads the "about" page, eh?
ArchLinux does nothing automatically - it hides details... it's also for the experienced linux user.
    You need to know
    a) the correct module for your network card
    b) how to configure a network
after that, a quick glance at /etc/rc.conf should make it apparent how to do it.
    again: arch does nothing automatically

  • ?? configure network-cards under Sol. 8 ?? please heeellpplp

    Hi,
I'm a stand alone Solaris's user (at home). Since about 2 months I've installed Solaris 8 on my PC, and wont be able to configure my Internet-Connection and my privat Home-Network.
I'd already read about 500 different publication's pages, but wont be able to go any further. My main PC contain Solaris 8 and has two RTL-Network-Cards. One for the Internet Connection(LAN), and the other (interne hub) for my small privat network at home. I've read there should be two files named: /etc/hostname.XXX0, XXX1. But there arent such files to see by me. The only file I have is "/dev/hostname.". I've tried to create them and lunch some commands I've seen in some manual's page.
Result ===> some error messages by the boot sequence.
Please can anyone help? Without having these cards working, I can't have any Internet connection.
The OS (Solaris) is already working on my PC, and I love it. But the only problem is how to set up these damned hardware, Network-Cards, Sound-Card and. I don't really know how to start with.
Please help!! Dont want to give up and I will not! Please help me to enjoy that hard work.
    Thanks for helping.
PS: I'm connected to the internet trought Network (LAN), i.e I'm using a RTL 8029 PCI Ethernet network-card, and the interne Hub is also a RTL 8029 PCI Ethernet card.

  • Smf / sometimes does not configure network interfaces in single-user mode?

    From http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/14785
When booting into single user mode, I often get a message
    on the console
t_optmgmt: System error: Cannot assign requested addressand only the loopback interface is configured (lo0 inet, and lo0 inet6).
The system's dnet0 interface is not plumbed any more. Configuration
for the dnet0 network interface is via a static ip address; hostname
in /etc/hostname.dnet0, and and ip v4 address for that hostname in
/etc/hosts. This was a Solaris 10 x86 system, but the same problem
has also been observed on Solaris 10 sparc, and the hme0
    interface.
svcs -x in single-user mode reports no problems.
Changing to multi-user mode by typing Ctrl-D still does not
    configure the real network interface.
One thing that I've noticed is that smf's log file
    /etc/svc/volatile/network-physical:default.log
is missing, when the nic interface was not configured.
It seems that the problem with unconfigured network interfaces
does not happen when I boot directly into multi-user mode.
Why isn't the physical interface plumbed and configured when
booting into single user mode on S10 b69?

actually during installation i selected DNS type for network giving a wrong nameserver and domain got skipped later
    #getent ipnodes dns (no response)
so all these things i did and found by seeing the forum guidelines. I can see the network connection has receivinh and sent packets seems to be working but can't browse internet, also can't ping a website.
if anyone had the same problem but found the answer than kindly let me know. I am new to solaris but i am trying my best.

  • In Order to Configure TCP/IP, You Must Install and Enable a Network Adapter Card

I get this message when I try to TCP/IP settings in any network card.
"In Order to Configure TCP/IP, You Must Install and Enable a Network Adapter Card"
    What I have tried:
    1. Removed card, did not click on "Remove driver". Then re-scanned in device manager. This usually leads to the network card showing up with a yellow exclamation mark, and I can not get it work again (have to use system restore).
    2. Removed card, deinstalled driver, re-installed driver.
    3. Rebooted a thousand times.
    4. Used the Lenovo drivers.
    5. Used the Intel drivers.
Doesn't matter what I do, I'm stuck with yellow exclamation marks in the end for the LAN and WLAN card, with not hope to repair them.
Driver version for the Intel 82579LM is 12.9.15.0
Driver version for the centrino advanced-n 6205 is 15.10.4.2
I'd really like some help on how to fix this so I'm able to configure my network manually.

For clarity, as your machine MTM number lists it with another type of WLAN adapter, and apparently, therein lies your problem.

  • Mac Gigabit Ethernet Cards Network Performance

I now have a 1.8ghz CoreDuo MacMini and 2.0ghz MacBook and both have gigabit Ethernet cards in them, based on the Marvell Yukon chipset i believe.
I was wondering upto what speeds people have driven these ethernet cards?
I'm doing some testing using iperf version 2.0.4 but I can't seem to get any more than around 30MB/sec out of the cards.
Is this their limit? Have you managed to get better out of them? If so, how?
Synology have just brought out a NAS box (DS209), that reads and writes at around 60MB/sec, but pretty pointless unless your ethernet card is upto the same speeds.

If your notation is technically correct, you are saying you are getting 30 megabytes per second as your tested speed. That would translate to 240 megabits per second, which is above the old 100 megabits per second limitation. If this is all accurate, then the next question is what cabling and other equipment are you using to connect the two? If the cabling is not Cat6 (category 6) you may not be able to achieve optimal transfer speeds. If you are using a hub, switch, or router which is not gigabit rated, you would have limitations there.

  • Time Machine not working after ethernet card failed

A couple of weeks back my iMac Core Duo's ethernet failed. As a logic board replacement for a 3.5 year old iMac would be expensive I instead bought an Apple USB Ethernet adapter (which works great). However, now Time Machine will not work, it says it cannot find the built in network interface. It does not matter whether I connect the external drive directly via firewire or over the network to my Mac Mini (which will backup with either connection).
    Here is the console error:
+Time Machine: Error setting backup path: Error Domain=com.apple.TimeMachine.Preferences Code=-1 UserInfo=0x1864bdf0 "Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found."+
+_CSBackupGetMachineMACAddress - IOServiceGetMatchingServices did not find an ethernet service with kIOPrimaryInterface true+
I tried the instructions on the Apple Support page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3275#5, but that did not work. Can anyone help?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
It's a long shot, but try a "Full Reset" of Time Machine, per item #B3 of the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
TM uses your Mac's Ethernet Address, which is embedded in the hardware of, guess what, your logic board, to identify your computer. This is how it keeps the backups for each Mac separate, so you can back-up more than one Mac to the same place without conflicts.
To find this address, use the System Profiler app (click the Apple icon at the left of your Menubar, then +About this Mac,+ then +More Info.+
Select Network in the sidebar, then Ethernet then find a line like this: +*MAC Address: 0a:1b:2c:3d:4e:5f+* That code, omitting the colons, is what TM puts in a hidden file on your TM volume to identify it as your Mac's backups.
Since your internal Ethernet card failed, you may not see that at all. If not, neither, apparently, can Time Machine. Other than getting a new logic board, I don't think there's a workaround.

  • Ethernet card stopped working after a bad blackout.

    Hi everybody,
we had a bad blackout yesterday night, with a terrible peak of electricity before that. When I turned my mac mini on again, it would not see any more the ethernet card.
In the system preferences it did not appear any more, and when asking for "Network Port Configurations" the Integrated Ethernet appeared grayed out. From the command line i then tried "ifconfig en0" and the answer is: "ifconfig: interface en0 does not exist".
I removed the interface, with the intention of adding it back again, and the only possibility that comes up in the menu (besides bluetooth and airport) is a "6 to 4" interface (which I have no idea what it is). Tried that, but it didn't seem the right thing to do...
I then switched off the computer and started it with the self test disk. The disk did not report any problem at all, however the ethernet address that seems to be there makes no sense to me (it contained characters like ")" and "!"). I restarted, and gave a look at the log files in /var/log/system.log and the only suspicious thing I see is:
    "Jul 29 18:38:18 my-computer /System/Library/CoreServices/mcxd.app/Contents/MacOS/mcxd: MCXD.initializeDirectoryServices: Unable to get the ethernet address "
Is there anything else I can try to see if the ethernet card is still there and functioning?
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Luca

Hi Luca, and a warm welcome to the Forums!
It does sound like it is a goner, but just to be certain it's not some damaged Software...
Boot from your Tiger Install Disk, put in your language, then look up top for the Menubar, use System Profiler from there, if Ethernet still doesn't give an addy, well, that's about it.

  • Ethernet card: eth0 or eth1?

    Hi,
my ArchLinux has a strange behavior regarding the interface to use to connect to the net (ethernet card, dhcp):
sometimes the right interface is eth0, sometimes it's eth1. I "solved" the problem adding both interfaces to my rc.conf:
    INTERFACES=(lo eth0 eth1)
this way one of the two interface (the "choice" seems to be "taken" randomly) fails at startup, of course.
I could live with that, but it seems a somewhat ugly solution to me. I'm wondering if I configured something wrong or if that's a bug?
Here's some info about my system:
    Kernel 2.6.22-suspend2
    Acer Aspire 1500 laptop
Network card : Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5788
There's a FireWire - it uses an eth interface too, right?
    thanks in advance
    Simon

I wondered whether someone will run into this funny problem:D
Compiling drivers for both cards into kernel may fix your problem.
Alternatively you may try adding modules for these cards in MODULES in /etc/rc.conf. It may also require adding them to MOD_BLACKLIST.

  • [solved]PCMCIA wired ethernet card issues

I have a Trendnet TE100-PCBUSR ethernet card plugged in to the PCMCIA socket on my dell laptop. I am trying to get it to connect through DHCP so that I can use pacman to install the programs I need, at the moment I only have the base packages. Google reveals to me that the ethernet card is a cardbus clone, and that it is supported by the tulip driver.
I installed arch by booting the cd and doing an ftp-based installation with the very same pcmcia ethernet card. Unfortunately after the installation I appear to not be connected to my network when my computer boots. To me, this says that I have simple configuration problems.
When I was running the installation, I got the card to work by doing these commands:
    modprobe yenta_socket
    modprobe tulip
the installer also advised that I run cardmgr, which told me there was no driver in /proc/devices, this warning didnt prevent the network from connecting to the ftp and downloading though. After running the modprobe commands I was able to establish a connection by using the menu in the installer.
My question is, how does the connection I made while running the installer translate into config files that can connect while booting? I am also wondering about that cardmgr error, is this something I should be worrying about?
I am looking forward to getting pacman working so that I can finaly have a linux that is bloat-free, containing only the stuff that I actually use. Even slackware handled configuring this card for me, so doing this by hand is new terriroty for me, when the system boots the card lights up like it did when I ran the modprobe commands, but I can't ping anything and pacman cannot download any packages.
You guys have already helped me alot at the IRC channel by helping with installing whenever I got stuck on some things. I imagine this is a simple issue that is documented somewhere, but I have not yet found this document and have been sitting on this problem for 2 days now. I would appreciate any clues you all could give me.

A little more info about my system, lshwd is detecting a built-in ethernet card that God decided to kill with a lighning bolt a couple years ago, the rest of the system still functions normally, my cable modem suffered the most from the strike and ended up getting replaced, but replacing an ethernet card built into this laptop is not possible because it is part of the main board, sigh.
I had a hell of a time transfering this data over, couldn't get the floppy to work so I installed pine and configured it to use my ISP email account, I royally messed up that config but strangely enough it still worked, the email came from [email protected], and I didnt have to login for it to work, which is lucky because I couldn't set up pine to do all that in the limited time I have with my machine.
Are you guys noticing a pattern yet? I can't configure very well, but I really hope to get better at it!
I also noticed that cardctl was telling me that my ethernet card is a cardbus fast ethernet, does that mean that I shouldnt be trying to use pcmcia-cs for this but use hotplug instead? lshwd also identified my ethernet card as something else, which I imagine is a card that my card is a clone of, since it appears to be working anyway.
I'm looking forward to your suggestions, any hints on configuring in general would be appreciated as well since I'm obviously having some bad luck with it I'll worry about floppy and email problems later.
PS: dhclient requires no parameters to connect, and I will have to give you my ifconfig info the next time I get a chance to use that computer.

  • Ethernet card no longer showing in ifconfig [solved]

    Hey,
Normally I don't have any problems with my networking, but this morning my wireless decided not to work. I haven't made made any changes in the past couple of days, so unsure what has caused it. Last Syu was on Thursday and every day including up until last night was fine.
So spent a while trying stuff out and stressing my tiny little brain for ideas, quick version is I did this:
    netcfg: said interface didn't exist.
ifconfig: didn't list the interface (wireless is usually eth1)
lsmod: confirmed the module (ipw2200) was loaded
lspci: confirmed the card was there
After copying the output of the above commands plus the obligatory rc.conf onto usb to move to this machine (and just before pushing <submit> on a much larger post than this :-) I decided to check the mac address listed in ifconfig with what is on the sticker under my machine. Voila! My wireless has actually moved to eth0. OK, that's that solved. (Wish I checked that first though...)
But that means that the reason that my wireless card is now eth0 instead of eth1 is because my old-skool wired ethernet card is no longer there to be numero 0. Why isn't it working? lsmod shows that the tg3 module is loading (it's an Intel card with Broadcom chipset in a Thinkpad T43) , but it no longer shows up in ifconfig. lspci is not showing it (see below), only the wireless card comes up. Does this mean the hardware is borken? What else can I do to check the card?
    $ lspci

Yeah, doesn't give me anything about the ethernet card, but does show the wireless one. No, hang on, just found it. Hmmm, didn't see it before, but I was grepping for 'net' then.
    $ dmesg | grep -i eth
    eth1: Tigon3 [partno(BCM95751M) rev 4101] (PCI Express) MAC address 00:12:34:56:78:9a
    eth1: attached PHY is 5750 (10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet) (WireSpeed[1])
    eth1: RXcsums[1] LinkChgREG[0] MIirq[0] ASF[0] TSOcap[1]
    eth1: dma_rwctrl[76180000] dma_mask[64-bit]
OK, so it is at eth1 now, that makes sense since I put ipw2200 right at the beginning and tg3 right at the end of the MODULES array in rc.conf to avoid the system getting crossed up while trying load them too close together. Thanks B, so at least we know something is happening at boot time.
Btw, my assumption is that ifconfig shows hardware once it is loaded correctly, is that right? But apart from the modules, what else do I need to do to get it showing up in ifconfig?

  • Network stream Two network adaptor cards in PC comms with crio

    Hi all,
I have two network adaptor cards in my pc which i think is causing my problems when collecting data over the tcp.
I'm seeing an error message -314340 from the create network stream write/read my address match up and i'm using a template crio vibration data logger.
I have two network cards in my pc. I think the error is a tcp one and I’m wondering if this is causing the problem. I’ve given the crio a static ip address 10.0.0.2 with mask 255.255.0.0
You can see the network adaptor below and it’s ip address 10.0.0.1 so I’m connected directly to this via ethernet cable. However from the Routes print cmd I don’t see the 10.0.0.2. Also the gateway for the crio is default at 0.0.0.0
Do I need to add the route to the list ? I found the cmd for that which I don’t think I’m using right… route ADD 10.0.0.2 MASK 255.255.0.0 10.0.0.1
    Cheers

Hi i'm using the crio data logger template from the create project list:
I'll post my code and some pretty pictures to help explain myself
I'm using a different crio, so i created a new project and configured the FPGA vi for my hardware, then added the host side. I can run the code see the waveforms after 10 seconds it outright crashes and i've been searching through all the error messages tracking it back to some unfound reason. The irony is sometimes the program creates a tdms file and makes a deposit in the crio folder/deposit (this is defined from an xml file)
I do notice within a few seconds the cpu on the waveform panel increases to 70+% before crash, so i'm also thinking the FIFO read is at fault, but it could be another red heiring (just installing the real time exection package so i can trace this better).
I've changed the number of channels from the default 4 to 2 please look in the VibConfig.xml file to see the change as the [Host] Create Config XML.vi doesn't like to changing the channel from 4 for some reason.
My set up is [SENSORS] ==> [cRIO] ==ETHERNET==> [PC] Please help
