Configuring FP-20xx without MAX

Think about a FP-20xx which may be unreachable by ethernet network, so unreachable by MAX. It can be contacted via GSM modem connected to serial port. I'd like to remotely change its configuration (connected I/O modules, channel ranges... possibly anything i'd normally configure with MAX), or tell somehow the RT application to self-configure.
What's the way to do this? Can i send optomux commands thru the modem? Can i send a new IAK or fpbank.ini file and tell the RT to use it? Can i tell the RT to programmatically apply some settings?
As for last question, i saw some interesting VIs (LV7.1) under NI Measurements -> FP -> Advanced -> Ethernet Config, they can be run in RT and work for self-configuring most channel parameters. But the settings are temporary and are lost if power goes down. And you can't redefine modules.

Hi,
there are different points in your message that need to be addressed:
1) What you can do programatically is described in this Knowledgbase . It basically deals with the creation of Items in the IAK file that are then configurable through software.
2) As far as the fpbank.ini file goes, remember the following: The IAK file is used on host computers and contains channel name, communication parameters and channel settings. The full IAK file is never downloaded into FieldPoint controllers. With FP-20XX controllers, a subset containing the channel names is downloaded into the module. With all controllers, the channel configuration information is saved into non-volatile memory (this does not include channel naming information which is only relevant for the FP-20XX series). The fpbank.ini is essentially the .iak configuration information, but without the Resource Names.
3) Changing the item names that are downloaded on to the controller is not supported, but here is an untested and unsupported solution could be:
1. Download the item names to your controller.
2. FTP to the controller and then change the name of the following file: ftp:///NI-RT/SYSTEM/fpbank.ini. This is the file that holds the I/O modules names.
3. Repeat the previous two steps until you download several different sets of item names to the controller.
4. When you want to switch which configuration you are using just use the file I/O VIs to ch
ange the name of the item name file to fpbank.ini.
5. You may have to restart the controller before the new item names are valid.
4) To me it sounds quite hard to change the modules that are attached to a bank if you only have access to it via GSM Modem. You would need to physically move modules around, wouldn't you?

  • Configure stepper motor with MAX

    Hi,
After wiring VI, I don't know what must I do to control my stepper motor?
Can anyone give general information what must to do.
How to configure stepper motor with MAX? I'm using PCI6036E.
    Thank you

The answer to your question is dependent on your motor/motor controller and the inputs that it needs. Are you using a stepper motor controller? The PCI-6036E probably won't be able to supply enough current to power your motor (max 5mA) by itself, so you will probably need a stepper motor controller. With the 6036E, you do have 2 analog outputs, 8 digital I/O, and 2 counters (can be used for pulse train generation). Have you considered an NI Motion Control Board? ni.com/motion

Is there any way I can configure LDAP adaptor without ODSM?
    Regards.

You can modify the Adapters xml which would create the adapter after the OVD Instance bounce but for the password you would have to login via ODSM. That is the tool provided for such operations.
There are ldap commands but I don't think it would be able to create a new adapter. It can add/delete LDAP entries from the browser view that too for a localstore adapter but not create adpater

  • Custom scaling of data without MAX?

Okay here's my problem. Hopefully you can help me or offer some helpful advice.
I am creating a user interface for data acquisition (only analog inputs are used). Thermocouples (Type J and Type K) will be used, as well as factory calibrated strain gauges. Some other sensors that can be linearized on a 0-5Volt scale might be used too.
I originally had my program set up where the user had to set up their channels in MAX and then come to the program I made. There will probably be a lot of scale/offset changes made by the users so channel configuration needs to be flexible. I changed the program to custom scaling. Instead of virtual channels the user just enters scale and offset values. These values are saved to a text configuratio
n file and later used on raw voltage.
Then I realized I would have to have the user input what type of sensor they are using because I'd have to compensate for CJC in thermocouples. AND, I dont think the SCC-TC02 is linear.
*Am I right in thinking I will have to use case structures when I finally scale data for LINEAR versus J THERMOCOUPLE versus K THERMOCOUPLE?
*How innacurate would my readings be to use the Labview's Thermocouple scaler VI and set the CJC to 1.25 volts (25 degC) rather than reading from Channel X+8.
*Is there an easier way to do what I'm trying to do? I know people do custom scaling, how is it done?
    THANKS.
    I have:
    SC-2345 Module Box
    SCC-TC02
    SCC-SG24
    LabVIEW 6.1

I'm not sure I see where your difficulty is.
I have always used custom scaling, MAX never did quite enough.
I have a cluster for each channel. The cluster contains a scaler (EU/Volt), an offset (EU@0V) and a channel type enum, among other stuff (channel name, units, filters, etc.)
When processing the data, look at the cluster for that channel. Use a CASE statement on the CHANNEL TYPE value. If linear, multiply the volts by the scaler and add the offset - you get EU (Engineering Units) out. If the channel type specifies some other type, use the appropriate linearization routine.
How innacurate would my readings be to use the Labview's Thermocouple scaler VI and set the CJC to 1.25 volts (25 degC) rather than reading from Channel X+8.
    <
    p>
Depends on which type TC, and where you are on it's range. You might expect 20 degrees or more error at the high end of some ranges, without proper CJC.
There's no easy answer to that question.

  • Configuring the 1327 in MAX

    Hi All,
I'm having some difficulty findin the right combination of settings, hardware and software, to configure an SCXI-1327 to work with a SCXI-1126 for making frequency measurements of a speed sensor signal. The sensor's signal is a low going pulse, from 12V to 0, 4 pulses per revolution, so it is normally high when there at 0 RPM. The max RPM is about 6000, which gives us a max frequency of about 400Hz. I have not been able to find a combination of settings of threshold, hysteresis, low pass filter, etc. I'm also having difficulty with the 1327 in Max, where there are configuration settings for the attenuator. I have tried to set the attenuator to 1:1 in box the 1327 and its configuration in MAX, but everytime I go back in the configuration for the channel it is at the diffault setting of 100:1. We've tried to resolve this for a few days, without success, and need it running, so any suggestions are welcome.
    LabVIEW 7.1.1, MAX 7.2.
    Thanks,

Thanks for the response. My problem is that I am trying to set the triggering for the 1126/1327 combo and am having no luck getting it to read the signal. I wrote the code using DAQmx, partly to become more familiar with it, partly because my customer has taken the LV basic courses and that is what they would show them. I had seen the examples, but it isn't clarifying the issues that I have. The first is that when I configure the 1327 under NI-DAQ and set the attenuator to 1:1 (vs the default of 100:1) it doesn't have me save anything (like it does when creating or changing a DAQmx task for instance) and when I go back in to look at the attenuator setting it shows it at 100:1, leading me to wonder if I actually had changed it. The setting in NI-DAQ is supposed to match the actual physical attenuator setting in the 1327. I also have not been able to find any setting of the trigger or hysteresis that works, either in NI-DAQ test panels or my LabVIEW code. What I need is some guidance as to what values (filter cutoff, max frequency, level, hysteresis, etc.) are appropriate for a signal that consists of 12V going to 0V, square pulses, ranging from near 0Hz to 400Hz?

  • Using one VLAN over several WLANs without maxing out controller

    Hi,
I need to provide several WLANs that need to have different SSIDs, but can all go on the same VLAN.
An example would be if i have 40 schools and one large, flat guest LAN that I want to use for them all. I'd like to put (SSIDs of)school0001, school0002, school000n etc onto this same VLAN without breaking my limit of 16 WLANs on the controller.
Does anyone know if the cisco 4404 (or 5508) can do this? and if so, how.
    Thanks in advance,

The 16 wlan limit is hard set.
Here is a good reason why:
"... limit the number of service set identifiers (SSIDs) configured at the controller. Based on your access point model, you can have configured 8 or 16 simultaneous SSIDs, but as each WLAN/SSID needs separated probe responses, and beaconing, the RF pollution increases as more SSIDs are added. The results are that some smaller wireless stations like PDA, WiFi Phones and barcode scanners cannot cope with a high number of basic SSID (BSSID) information. This results in lockups, reloads or association failures. Also the more SSIDs, the more beaconing needed, so less RF space is available for real data transmits. "
    from
    http://supportwiki.cisco.com/ViewWiki/index.php/Wireless_LAN_Controller_%28WLC%29_Configuration_Best_Practices
You may want to consider using multiple controllers & limiting the # of wlans per controller.
You should also check into AP groups to limit what wlans are broadcast on what APs to help control the rf pollution where possible.

  • Retrieve running configuration from RV082 without username or password?

I have just started a job at a critical infrastructure plant in which the previous person in my position has several things set up with almost zero documentation. Since this plant is infrastructure-critical, I need to be careful in what I muck around with. Right now, the plant has no internet access (it is not necessary for the functioning of the plant) because the gentleman I replaced had set up an RV082 and was using it to VPN tunnel into the network. He is now on disciplinary leave, probably never to return, and we want to be sure he cannot access the plant. I don't know if we need to have access to the plant while off-site, but just in case we do, is there any way to get the running configuration off of this device while not knowing the username and/or password? I would really like to not wipe it out, but I suppose I can if there is no other way.
    Thank you for your time.

Hi Timothy, unfortunately without a user/password the device will need to be reset.

  • POF Configuration in C++ without files

  • Is it possible to use board without MAX

    Hi All,
I am develloping an Application that will use a NI USB measurement module. This Application is going to be distributed and used in the production in different industries.
I don't want that an operator can change the channel settings in the MAX, because this could make the measured results worthless. I have heard, that it is possible to controll a board without the MAX under CVI, but LabVIEW needs the MAX. Is it possible to use the dlls that are used with CVI in LabVIEW as well and controll a board without even installing the MAX.
    Best Regards

    Hi,
No, it is not possible, you must at least have the Operational Database. But please check Microsoft Monitoring Agent, is that what you are looking for?

  • SCAN configuration with 11g without DNS.

    Hi,
We need DNS for SCAN IP configuration on 11g installation/upgradation. If we are having DNS we can use DNS name and install Grid Cluster.
Without DNS we can overcome SCAN configuration by using any one ip updation with SCAN on etc/host entry.
    Please Clarify :
    1) Updating the IP on etc/host entry, should be Public/private/vip sequance ?
    2) After configuring SCAN without DNS, what are all exact steps need to do on Windows 2003 server? (by using srvctl modify command)
    3) We are having mirror on OS level, currently using External redundancy on ASM with 10g. If we need same setup on 11g, can we create single shared disk on storage? (OCR & VOTING disk will create within ASM)
    Regards,
    Raja..

    Hi,
    user12159566 wrote:
    1) Updating the IP on etc/host entry, should be Public/private/vip sequance ?Order in /etc/host is of no importance, as long as each entry has its own. Note you will only be able to use 1 IP for the SCAN.
BTW. in 11.2. there is no need to specify a private hostname or entry in /etc/host, since the "subnet" and network card(s) is/are used for identification
    2) After configuring SCAN without DNS, what are all exact steps need to do on Windows 2003 server? (by using srvctl modify command)After you created the SCAN entry in DNS and removed the /etc/host entry (with the SCAN), you can simply do a "srvctl modify scan_listener". This should update the info and create the additional 2 VIPs and SCAN Listeners.
    3) We are having mirror on OS level, currently using External redundancy on ASM with 10g. If we need same setup on 11g, can we create single shared disk on storage? (OCR & VOTING disk will create within ASM)While you could also use only one disk with external redundancy diskgroup for all (will work), I recommend using at least 4 disks for the diskgroup. There is a slight performance increase when having 4 disks/luns in a diskgroup instead of one, even if from the same storage. Has to do with I/O queses in the OS. Furthermore extending ASM is easier, since Oracle recommends to have luns with the same size in a diskgroup. So you just have to add a small lun if you run out of space, than to provision a big new one.
However you may stay with one disk/lun.

  • Configuring Airport equipment without internet?

I have some Airport N equipment that I have not used for a long time and I want to update the firmware on them, though I do not want to use them for my network yet.
    1. How do you update the firmware on Extreme, Express and Time Capsule units without them being connected to the internet? Can this be done?
    2. Is Airport Utility built into Mavericks the best way to configure Airport gear these days?
    Thanks.

Doesn't really matter which version of AirPort Utility that you use.

  • Configuring airport express without wireless computer

I've got a 2008 Mac Pro with no wireless hooked up to the square Airport Extreme by ethernet cable.  The airport extreme serves other wireless computers throughout the house.  Last year, it was complicated configuring 2011 airport expresses to extend my network using the Mac Pro as the home computer, but I finally managed it with the help of an Apple tech who said most other techs would probably not know the trick to doing it.  It worked great for over a year.
Today, out of nowhere, airport utility came up with an error message and told me I needed to change settings to a LAN bridge.  I followed directions, but the effect was to wipe out all my settings.  I managed to reset and get the extreme back working, but I'm having trouble getting the airport expresses properly configured. Instructions online are based on doing it with a computer that's also wireless.  Part of the trick in configuring involved deselecting a lower button in Airport Utility, then going to areless settings and changing WAN to extend the network.
I wish I would have gone to the trouble of doing screen grabs with each step along the way, but if anyone knows the steps for reconfiguring the airport expresses using a computer without wireless, I'll pay for your kids' college:  or at least ask God to let you win the lottery.

A cool Apple tech, realizing that I was only having problems because their software had topedoed my working set-up, actually gave me a no-charge rundown of the standard procedure using that ethernet trick, which seemed to work up until the last step, but at that point, the update and restart of the apple express failed each time I tried.  From what I remember when I initially configured the express last year, the ethernet trick is part of the right procedure.  Thanks.

  • How to build a Labview Installer without MAX

I have created a LV program, using VISA.
When I create a Installer, MAX is also included - this is not necessary, how can I avoid it?
Furthermore, how does one deinstall the NI libraries when deinstalling the product? Due to their size this may be desired.

    Yes,
this sounds very logical, and has been attempted, but:
1: In Additional Installers NI Measurement & Automation Explorer is not checked.
(Only Run time engine, Variable engine, variable manager, visa configuration support and visa runtime is installed)
2: the installation disk created by LV is 200Mb, but the NI programs that are to be deinstalled are of only 4Mb - normally an installation expands on disk instead of shrinking, is the footprint of the NI runtime engine really only 4Mb on an XP machine?
