Configuring Port Channel on Cisco 2960S-48LPS-L

When I try to move port channel connections to two of the SFP ports on our Cisco 2960S switch, one of the connections fail.
I am using two GBics, both are the same, GLC-T-A 1000Base-T.
The port channel work fine when I use g1/0/47 and 48.
The port channel work fine when using g1/0/48 and SFP 1/0/49
Port channel does not work when using SFP 1/0/49 and SFP 1/0/50.

Cisco C2960S software version:  12.2(55)SE7.  Using C2960S-UNIVERSALK9-M.
Port configurations for g1/0/48 - 51:

  • Configure port channel between IO Module and FI

                       Hi,
    I have the current setup
    UCS chassis (4 uplinks) --> FI --> (Port channel) --> N5K --> (port channel) --> VSS 6500
I configure port channel between IO Module and the FI by changing to policy to "Port Channel" and set the link to 4
FI has created a portchannel under "Internal" containing all the FI interfaces that are connected to the IO module.
I have installed ESXI on a blade but i was unable to reach it, even the esx was unable to ping the gateway.
VLAN tagging is enabled from the ESX server.
I have issued the command "show mac address-table | inc <mac address of the vnic assigned from thre service profile> on both the N5K and thr 6500 and the mac is there.
I have allowed all the vlans on the vNIC from the service profile.
    am I missing anything?
    thanks

    Hello,
Can you please check whether your ESXi vmkernel interface ip address learned on right VLAN on FI / upstream switch or not.
    connect nxos

  • Configuring port-channel on N7K

    Hi there,
    I am trying to build a port-channel from N7K-01 to N7K-02 using a breakout cables (40G interface from N7K-01 to 4x10G interfaces on N7K-02). it didn't work
is this require a special configuration??? because I have done port-channel configuration between two 40G interfaces and it works.
appreciate your valuable support if possible to share the needed configuration to accomplish this.
    thanks,
    regards,
    Haitham.

    Hi,
when I do it directly between cisco ASR9k, the 10g interfaces are up with lights but 40G side is red not up.
between cisco N7Ks, no lights from both sides. between N7Ks cable is going to patch-panel and then to other nexus.
    thanks,

  • About n1000v with port channel

there is a n1000v connected to multiple upstream switches in the customer's production environment.
the following is from the Cisco Nexus 1000V Interface Configuration Guide, Release4.2(1)SV2(2.1).
You use vPC-HM mode to create a port channel when the switch is connected to multiple upstream switches
    that are not clustered.
    my question is,
can I use LACP with multiple upstream switches that are not clustered?
can I use LACP with multiple upstream switches that are stacked?
if I stack multiple upstream switches, does it mean clustered?
    thanks.

    Hi,
    See some of the guidelines:
    Guidelines and Limitations
Port channeling has the following guidelines and restrictions:
•All ports in the port channel must be in the same Cisco Nexus 1000V module; you cannot configure port channels across Cisco Nexus 1000V modules.
•Port channels can be formed with multiple upstream links only when they satisfy the compatibility requirements and under the following conditions:
–The uplinks from the host are going to the same upstream switch.
–The uplinks from the host going to multiple upstream switches are configured with vPC-HM.
•You can configure multiple port channels on a device.
•After you configure a port channel, the configuration that you apply to the port channel interface affects the port channel member ports. The configuration that you apply to the member ports affects only the member port where you apply the configuration.
•You must remove the port security information from a port before you can add that port to a port channel. Similarly, you cannot apply the port security configuration to a port that is a member of a channel group.
•You can configure ports that belong to a port channel group as PVLAN ports.
•Any configuration changes that you apply to the port channel is applied to every member interface of that port channel.
•Channel member ports cannot be a source or destination SPAN port.
That said LACP should work on switches that are not clustered and meet the conditions above.
A stack is treated as one unit which means that would be like you have just one big chassis.
Stacking does not the same as clustering it works different. so if you stack them that would be a stack not a cluster

    Hi Marvin,
Thank you for your answer.  I did everything but it did not work. Turn out it is a bug ver 8.45 will let you created the sub logical interface but actually it did not work right.  Verson 9.x  doesn't let you create more than 2 port channel (limitation of ASA5550 hardware).
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCtq62715/?reffering_site=dumpcr
Also, you can see the 8.4 release notes were you can see that it is not supported:

    Interface Features
EtherChannel support (ASA 5510 and higher)
You can configure up to 48 802.3ad EtherChannels of eight active interfaces each.
Note You cannot use interfaces on the 4GE SSM, including the integrated 4GE SSM in slot 1 on the ASA 5550, as part of an EtherChannel.
    We introduced the following commands: channel-group , lacp port-priority , interface port-channel , lacp max-bundle , port-channel min-bundle , port-channel load-balance , lacp system-priority , clear lacp counters , show lacp , show port-channel .

What is the best practice to use when configuring port channel between Catalystr 3750G switch stack and WLC 4402 / 4404 Wireless Lan Controllers:
    a) Negotiate to LACP
    b) Negotiate to PAgP

Configuring Neighbor Devices to Support LAG
The controller's neighbor devices must also be properly configured to support LAG.
•Each neighbor port to which the controller is connected should be configured as follows:
    interface GigabitEthernet
    switchport
    channel-group mode on
    no shutdown
•The port channel on the neighbor switch should be configured as follows:
    interface port-channel
    switchport
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk native vlan
    switchport trunk allowed vlan
    switchport mode trunk

  • Disappointed: ASA 8.4 Redundant using Port-channels

So I finally got all our ASAs upgrade to version 8.4 and was all sorts of excited to configure port-channels to our 6500 + SUP7203B switches.  I was severally disappointed to discover that I cannot configure two port-channels and have them be members of a redundant interface pair.  It would seem like a logical topology.
    Port-channel1 = Gig0/0 & Gig0/1
    Port-channel2 = Gig0/2 & Gig0/3
    Redundant1 = Port-channel1 & Port-channel2
Port-channel1 would connect to the primary 6500
Port-channel2 would connect to the backup 6500
What would it take to make this work?  Am I going to have to wait for 8.5?  Will we finally get BGP then too? (Had to get that in there)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa84/configuration/guide/interface_start.html#wp1329357
    EtherChannel Guidelines
•You can configure up to 48 EtherChannels.
•Each channel group can have eight active interfaces. Note that you can assign up to 16 interfaces to a channel group. While only eight interfaces can be active, the remaining interfaces can act as standby links in case of interface failure.
•All interfaces in the channel group must be the same type and speed. The first interface added to the channel group determines the correct type and speed.
•The device to which you connect the ASA 5500 EtherChannel must also support 802.3ad EtherChannels; for example, you can connect to the Catalyst 6500 switch.
•All ASA configuration refers to the logical EtherChannel interface instead of the member physical interfaces.
•You cannot use a redundant interface as part of an EtherChannel, nor can you use an EtherChannel as part of a redundant interface. You cannot use the same physical interfaces in a redundant interface and an EtherChannel interface. You can, however, configure both types on the ASA if they do not use the same physical interfaces.

    Hello Yaplej,
Agree with you but unfortunetly this is not supported yet,

    Hi All,
Is there any option to span port channel of Cisco 6500 Switch. If possible What is the configuration for the same..

    Regards,
    Ajith

    Hi,
You can, but the Portchannel has to be in on mode.  You cannot use it wilt LACP or PAGP.
    Note:
From Cisco IOS Software Release  12.2(33)SXH and later, PortChannel interface can be a destination port.  Destination EtherChannels do not support the Port Aggregation Control  Protocol (PAgP) or Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) EtherChannel  protocols; only the on mode is supported, with all EtherChannel  protocol support disabled.

  • Port Channel via SCE8000

    Dear community members,
I need to increase the link capacity of 10GE to 20GE between two Cisco7609, so I feel the need to configure port channel between them, my little problem is that I have a SCE 8080 in the middle of both 7600 currently is configured inline.
The SCE has 4 modules 1X10GE-L-V2 (currently in use 2), I was investigated and the truth is that I not found anything concrete about how to configure the SCE to "pass" etherchannel through it, could help me with this ..?
What the SCE needs to support 20GE of traffic? (configuration and software)
I have two 10GE ports available on the SCE
Could you please give me a hand
    Thank you very much

    Hi there,
I do not think so you need port channel, you can have two links going to two 10G ports on one SCE. The only thinkg you need to take care of is:

  • Port Channel over L2 MPLS links

    Hello.
I was hoping that someone could over some suggestions on best practice or recommendations for configuring port channel to bundle to layer 2 MPLS links that we have.
We have racks in two geographically separated data centres, each rack has a stack of Cisco 3850 switches, and there are two 100Mbps layer 2 connections linking these stacks together.  The links are provided by our supplier and runs over their core network (I can get more info on their setup if need be).
I had initially just configured a simple port channel bundling the two ports on "Switch A", and the same on "Switch B".  However I have since noticed that one of the ports was put into error disabled state, and I have my doubts that we ever had 200Mbps throughput over the portchannel.
    The logs showed:
UDLD-4-UDLD_PORT_DISABLED: UDLD disabled interface Gix/x/x, aggressive mode failure detected
%PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: udld error detected on Gix/x/x, putting Gix/x/x in err-disable state
How I understand is that one of ports recieved an unexpected (or incorrect) BPDU packet, and shut the port down as part of spanning tree process to stop a loop forming.
For the time being I have removed the port channel config and re-opened all the ports, so I believe one of the ports is now in blocking state.
Whilst redundancy for these links is great, ideally I would like to have the links bundled so I also get the benefit of higher throughput.
    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Thank you for your reply and suggestions.  I have been reading up on layer 2 protocol tunnelling and I'm not sure if this will work for us.  According to these guidelines for the catalyst 3550 (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3550/software/release/12-1_19_ea1/configuration/guide/3550scg/swtunnel.html#wp1006657) it states:
•If you enable PAgP or LACP tunneling, we recommend that you also enable UDLD on the interface for faster link-failure detection.
•Tunneling is not supported on trunk ports. If you enter the l2protocol-tunnel interface configuration command on a trunk port, the command is accepted, but Layer 2 tunneling does not take affect unless you change the port to a tunnel port or an access port.
•EtherChannel port groups are compatible with tunnel ports when the 802.1Q configuration is consistent within an EtherChannel port group.
(maybe its a different and is supported on 3850's)
Also, I cant use layer 3 over this link as I am looking to extend VLANs over the link so devices and virtual machines in each of the datacentre are in the same subnet and broadcast domain.
I will speak with the supplier to see what they are willing to do.
    Thanks again.

  • Port-channel on ASA5520

So everything I've read on Cisco's documentation here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa84/configuration/guide/interface_start.html#wp1329030 says that I can create a port-channel on two physical interfaces that will uplink to a VSS pair.  However, the command is not recognized.  What am I missing? I've tried executing "channel-group #" on the physical interface and tried creating the port-channel 1st and neither commands exist.  I haven't seen it listed anywhere if it is only available after a specific piece of ASA software.  If it is the software would someone know what version at a minimum I need to upgrade to?  Below is an output from a show version

    Hi,
You need software 8.4(1) atleast to be able to configure Port Channel / Etherchannel
Here is the section from the command reference which states this
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa84/command/reference/i3.html#wp1932200
Naturally in your case if you were to upgrade the ASA to 8.4(x) software it would mean that NAT configuration format would be totally different compared to your software version of 8.0.

  • Port-channel issue with FI-N7k using rate-mode share

    Hi Dears,
I'm trying to using port-channel between Fabric Interconnect (FI) and N7K. in N7K use rate-mode share and LACP but the port-channel in N7K was suspended.
    I was trying :
    1. I using non dedicated port in Nexus 7010.
          - rate-mode share
          - channel-group 1 mode active
          - switchport mode trunk
when i using this option, the port-channel in Nexus 7010 was suspended
    2. I using non dedicated port in Nexus 7010
         - rate-mode share
         - channel group 1 mode on
         - switchport mode trunk
when i using this option, the port-channel in Nexus 7010 was came up, but in Fabric interconnect was failed.
    3. I using dedicated port in Nexus 7010
         - rate-mode share
         - channel group 1 mode active
         - switchport mode trunk
when i using this option, the port-channel in Nexus 7010 was suspended
    4. I using dedicated port in Nexus 7010
         - rate-mode dedicated
         - channel group 1 mode active
         - switchport mode trunk
when i using this option, the port-channel in Nexus 7010 was came up and running well.
is any other way to configure port-channel in N7K with rate-mode share and LACP ?
or it's some of limitation in port-channel when using rate-mode share at N7K ?
nb: fabric interconnect only support LACP and cannot be configurable.
    regards,
    Berwin H

    HI Mark,
    1. Can you please check your ethernet card ...where this port channel connected..on the server.
may be there are 2 different card.
    2. from cisco websites:
    Error Message
    Explanation
This port has different port attributes than other ports within the port channel.
    Recommended Action
Match the port attributes to that of the port channel.
