Migrating from CiscoWorks LMS 3.1 to Cisco Prime LMS 4.2
Hi Everyone
My client was formerly having CiscoWorks LMS 3.1. Recently, they purchased Cisco Prime Infrastructure v1.2, which comes with Cisco Prime LMS 4.2. Can I migrate the database (equipment list, usernames etc.) of the CiscoWorks LMS 3.1 to Cisco Prime LMS 4.2? If yes, how do I do this? Please kindly advice.
Shown below, were the Part Numbers quoted to the end client.

RamThanks Marvin for your advice. Just one last question, there's a statement in the URL that you've provided
"Ensure that the passwords, HTTPS port and SMTP server details are same in both LMS 3.2 SP1, LMS 4.0.1 or LMS 4.1 server and LMS 4.2 server with Symantec Veritas implementation, while migrating data from non-HA to HA environment."
Does this mean my client need to purchase Symantec Veritas, as well? -
DHCP and voice vlan on Cisco 3560 switch
Greetings,
I'm setting up a Cisco 3560 switch for voice and data comms. I'm looking for documentation with best practice guidelines for the following requirements.
1. Using the Cisco 3560 as a DHCP server - Config examples. Do I need to use different subnets for the voice and data vlans?
2. Layer 2 CoS QoS - I'm connecting Aastra phones as well as notebooks - I've been told that Aastra also makes use of the voice vlan config through LLDP and that Aastra phones supports CDP.
Your assistance will be appreciated.Hi ,
Cisco recommends that you have a separate vlan for voice and data with different ip subnets for voice and data. You will need to configure the dhcp pool accordingly.
Here is the config guide for setting up IOS DHCP server:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_0t/12_0t1/feature/guide/Easyip2.html
Here is the LAN qos recommendations:

AAA and Cisco MDS switches.........
have configured Cisco ACS 4.0 (TACACS) with Windows AD for all Cisco MDS switches and it is working fine. But local "admin" access to the Cisco MDS switches via telnet is not working. At the same time , if I create a user with "network-admin" role locally, that works but not the default admin user.
Could anyone help me in this regard.local. Below is the script I used to configure TACACS (Cisco ACS 4.0) on Cisco MDS switches.

Emergency Responder and Cisco 3850 Switches
I'm running Cisco ER V8.5, and recently installed new Cisco 3850 Switches. All the phones connected to the 3850 switches show a "unlocated" status. I've check the hardware compatibility Matrix for ER V8.5 and the 3850 is not on it.
What are my options for locating these phones in ER and assigning them to an ERL. Manually defining the phones? Is there a patch or update to ER V8.5 that would make a 3850 compatible?I haven't used the 3850's with ER yet so can't speak to that specifically, but generally speaking you have more flexibility using location by subnets vs switches. Scalability-wise, you can add way more subnets than switches. There's more going on under the hood if you're locating by switches so the process overhead is greater.
The only downside with using subnets is if you need to get more granular with your locations than your deployed subnets allow (ie a single voice subnet for an entire building but you need to define and assign locations at the floor level). As long as you've been a little forward thinking on the route/switch side, you'll be fine.
hope that helps,

Ciscoworks LMS 3.0 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2
In order to complete the upgrade the LMS 3.x runs over a physical server that ends with the upgrade(server its gona be retired), the think is that the Cisco Prime comes with an UCS and its gona run over a VM. The question here is the "Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.1 - Maj Upg from LMS 2.x/3.x" media could be runs as clean install, I mean with no LMS 3.x intalled before? an the "Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 1.5K Device Maj Upg Lic" could be registered with no license installed of LMS 3.x?
There are a couple of things to distinguish:
1. The product SKU you need to order to migrate from LMS 3 to LMS 4.2.
2. The license file that is installed on that new LMS server.
#1 is based on Cisco agreeing, usually through the partner or reseller you are working with, that you are entitled to order the upgrade SKU (vs. buy a complete new product). The upgrade SKUs are all listed in the ordering guide here.
L-PI12-1.5K-UP (note - NOT the 1.1 product description you noted in the original post) would be the SKU for a major upgrade from LMS 2.x/3.x to the current Prime Infrastructure 1.2 release at the 1500 device license level. That upgrade includes licenses for both PI 1.2 and Prime LMS 4.2. You may choose which to install - most LMS customers stick with LMS for now as PI 1.2 does not yet have full feature parity. Your managed devices should not exceed 1500 combined (in this case) but that combined number is not enforced technically by the product's license daemon.
Once you have purchased the product and have the media you can install it on any host that meets the installation prerequisites as far as OS, memory, disk etc. A clean installation of LMS does not check for or require a previous installation as far as technical checks.
#2 - Once you have installed the new LMS server (and optionally a step near the end of installation, you need to add in the license file (*.lic file). That is obtained through the Cisco licensing portal (or via the TAC if you prefer) using the Product Activation Key (PAK) received with your product. -
LMS 3.2 and Cisco Small Business Switches
Hi there,
I'm currently using LMS 3.2 to monitor my network. We've recently purchsed a few of the Cisco Small Business Switches, the SF 300-24 model to be exact. They're considered 'managed switches' (tho thier CLI is terrible) and I would like to monitor them in CWLMS. My problem is that once I add it to CS, it doesn't resolve to anything, just sits there as a blue box with a question mark. I'm assuming this means that these devices are not (currently) supported by LMS 3.2 - do you know if that will change, or how I can go about managing this device with LMS 3.2?
ThanksUnfortunately that series of products is not supported in any version of LMS (or even Cisco Network Assistant - CNA).
Cisco provides the FindIt utility to manage them:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps10660/tsd_products_support_series_home.html
Hope this helps. -
Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 does not display switch.
After running the program does not display one of the switch on LAN TOPOLOGY while it is displayed in the tab menu ALL DEVICE (DEVICE SUMMARY). At the same time that they all have the same SNMP configuration.
1. Device discovery
2. Device view on Topology services (172.16.100.1 not display on map)
All IOS evenly, FILTER not apply. -
Having a problem with PEAP and Cisco 2960 Switch
Hi All,
I am attempting to use PEAP with a LDAP backend on FreeRadius witht he MS Supplicant. I have it all working, in debug on the Radius server I see it sending all the information, the tunnel, medium etc. but with PEAP the Cisco switch is not changing VLANS. If I install the Cisco or Juniper client it works just fine if I use eap-mschapv2 but peap-mschapv2 does not switch the port to the right vlan. Is there something extra on the switch I need to do to allows PEAP or is there something on the FreeRadius?
The only difference between the PEAP and EAP versions that I can tell is that the PEAP authenticates ands the information is sent once(according to the debug on the Radius server) where as with the EAP the connection information is sent several times, that is I will see the Tunnell and medium info sent more then once in the Radius log for just one login.
Any ideas?Thought I mentioned the client in the first post, I am using the 3 different types of clients with a goal of getting the MS client to work. I am using the Juniper Odyssey client, Cisco CSSC client and the MS built-in client. I mentioned the EAP-MSChanpV2 because I tested that login so I could compare the Radius output with that of PEAP-MSChapV2. I did not release logs from the Radius server because it seems to be centered with something on the switch changing Vlans but if you want output I can give that..
CSSC Client pops out:

SBR and cisco routers/switches
HI all,
i have a juniper SBR and large no of cisco devices as RAS/NAS.
i would like to have level 1 team to have just read only profile .
and level 2 team to have read and write access . i guess to accomplish this on a non cisco aaa product ,
1) DO i need to downlaod cisco radius attribute dictonary file . if yes where is the downlaod link ?
2) As user profiles are basic one ., their should be a standard attribute which has this feature . in case this is true which ietf attribute i can use ?
3) what aer vsa ? does cisco vsa help me in accomplishing my goals with SBR?
4) if i get above answers i can move in right direction accompleshing the same with firewall vendor a , ssl vpn vendor b , wifi controller vendor c , dslamp vendor e ....
Any response will be much appreciated .I have a 3750X and an SG300 trunked together and they are both running RSTP.
I set my 3750X to rapid-pvst
I set my SG300 to rstp
A "show spanning" on both devices yields: "Spanning tree enabled protocol rstp".
Both seem to be communicating STP fine. -

Adding Device support/definitions in Ciscoworks LMS 3.2
Hi All
I am having some issues adding updated definitions for Cisco C3750X-48PS switches.
We have ciscoworks LMS 3.2 and I need to update the definition/device support for these switches. We are conducting a network refresh and are having some issues with ciscoworks polling these devices correctly.
I have looked through the various user guides and searched on google with not much luck as to how to actually do this, the links I have found breifly go into it, but not indepth, and the cisco links I have found, of course have redirects to new pages which bear to resemblance to what is in the original document. Is there a clear guide out there on how to update the switch definiton in ciscoworks? So I can i can try and do this correctly?
I am new in my current role and I want to ensure I am doing this correctly. Apologies if this has been asked before.
thanksFirst thing to check is the supported device table for LSM3.2. According to it, the 3750X-48P-S is supported pretty much across the board by the LMS tools.
So you then need to just make sure you update the RME, CM, DFM and CiscoView device packages to integrate the updates into your server. While you can manually download and install the various packages, this task is more easily accomplished via the application GUI itself.
In LMS 3.2, updates can be done via the Common Services Software Center. The User Guide (here) tells how to use that area in great details. I usually just select "everything" for updating so as to be fully updated for whatever gets installed (as opposed to trying to pick and choose the minimal set of packages). -
Extract Devices from Ciscoworks LMS 4.2 to Nagios database
Hello everyone,
I'm working on ciscoworks LMS 4.2 and as part of a project I need to extract all of my devices to a Nagios Database.
Is it possible to do ?
If yes, can you explain me how can I do that ?
Perhaps with snmp traps, I don't know.
Thank for your consideration and your help.
Cordially.I am not an expert in Nagios, so no idea on what options does it have to import devices.
In LMS, you have an option to export devices and its credentials list in .csv and xml format. Please check if you can use any one of those to get imported on Nagios.
Check details on how to export from user guide here :
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/user/guide/inventory/mng_device.html#wp1132486
Also, you can try to fetch database details from LMS using Open Database Connect. Use the following document for more details :
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/database_schema/dbviews_42.html#wp23144
You should check the possible option on Nagios to import devices and than ask if that is available on LMS.
-Thanks

Installing Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 on Windows domain member server.
Hello.
I'm looking for some suggestions about installing CiscoWorks LMS 4.0, and upgrade, on a domain member server running Windows 2008 R2 SE 64 bit.
Thanks.
AndreaHere are the basic install best practices:
1) Install as a local administrator (this means create a local account and add it
the "Administrators" group).
2) My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables
Set the USER TMP and TEMP to a shorten path like
C:\Windows\temp
3) Make sure you have FIXED pagefile size like 8182
My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Options -> Advanced
4) May need to reboot, certainly log out an back in to make sure step 2 applies.
5) Stop all anti-virus and firewall during the installation. Disable them in services and reboot if necessary.
* NOTES: Anti-virus can be re-enabled after installation, but you should EXCLUDE
the NMSROOT directory as long as LMS is installed on the server. DEP should
remain off (that is, set to only protect critical Windows system files) as long as LMS
is installed on the server.
* If Internet Information Services (IIS) is detected on your system and if you have
continued the installation with IIS services, you cannot use the port number 443 for
HTTPS. Instead, you must use the port numbers ranging from 1026 to 65535 for
HTTPS to avoid this conflict.
When performing the installation, make sure these two steps are followed:
* Install from original, locally attached media
* NEVER abort the installation after the installer says not to
It may not always be possible to install from original, locally attached media
(especially on VMs). But you should avoid from installing over the network as hiccups
can cause bad installations. If you are installing on a virtual machine, convert the DVD
to an ISO image, then mount that within the VM.
Here is the document detailing all ports needed to be allowed (excluded from policy)
for LMS 4.0
LMS 4.0 Port Usage
General Notes:
If you want to upgrade the operating system from Windows 2003 or Windows
2008 to Windows 2008 R2, you must first complete upgrading the operating
system, and then install the LMS 4.0.x Windows 2008 R2 patch.
* You can install the LMS 4.0.x Windows 2008 R2 patch only on LMS 4.0.x
and not on the lower version of LMS.
* You cannot install Integration Utility and HP Open View 7.x or 8.x on
Windows 2008 or Windows 2008 R2 servers.

Internetwork performance Monitor (IPM) issue of CiscoWork LMS 2.5
Im implementing IPM 2.6 module on Ciscoworks. To analysis ICMP traffic from Source to Destination, I have made 1 IP Echo entery of source & target, where source is RouterA serial IP & Target is RouterB Serial IP. Now if Normal Ping happens from Router A to B. Traffic analysis & delay displays at IPM. Now I move one another entry where Source Router A & Destination Router C Serial IP. Now Problem begins. Due to some policies, Router A cant make normal Ping to C but extended ping happens for same but IPM cant capture extended ping traffic & delay. It always show Request timed out. Now Im stuck. Its very necessary to resolve. Waiting..
Dan,
IPM and LMS 3.2 are EOS/EOL. But the features are still available in the latest version of LMS, aka, Cisco prime LMS 4.2.
Cisco Prime LMS 4.x onwards the module specific approach was re-structured to feature centric menu, and hence Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 has all the required + enhanced IPM features.
You can upgrade to LMS 4.2, however, we encourage everyone to move to Cisco Prime Infrastructure, which is more future proof, as Marvin recommended.
IPM feature in Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 is known as Performance Management.
