Confusion about ipod 4th gen screens

I am a bit confused, because I keep reading conflicting accounts about the ipod touch 4th gen's screen shattering easily.  Some people claim their screen broke without even being dropped , falling off a lap onto a bed, or shattering when dropped froma short height, even with a strong case that was supposed to protect the screen.  Others claim to have dropped theirs from a great height, onto cement or other hard surface and with no protection or just a silicone sleeve and the screen was just fine.  I don't get the inconsistancy.  Does it have to do with when the ipod was produced (I know some were produced in 2010 and some in 2012)?  Or is it just one of those weird things that has never been resolved?  On that note, what case would protect the screen the best.  One store recommended Otter cases, but I've seen many poor reviews for the ones produced for ipod touch 4th gen.  I've also had stores recommend Griffen Survivor cases (which actually look like they would protect better than the Otter cases).  Anybody have experiences with either case, or can recommend one even better?

A bad USB hub will cause the problem ... are you using it ??

  • My ipod 4th gen screen kept jumping this morning. Had to do a restore on it and it is working fine now. However, when I did the restore it did not load the Nike   app that was factory installed on my ipod. I use this app daily. Any idea how to get it back

My ipod 4th gen screen kept jumping this morning. Had to do a restore to factory conditions and it is working fine now. However, it originally had a factory installed Nike+ app on it and it did not install with the restore. I use this app daily with the running chip to log my workouts. Anyone know how to get this app back from Apple? Loading the Nike app from the app store is not the same thing as you need gps running continually for it to work (as with an iphone). Can't have that with my ipod unless I'm connected to wifi. Help?? Thanks.

If you go to Settings do you see an entry for the Nike app? There is no way to delete or hide that app?
Have you tired using the Spotlight search? Maybe you just can't find it.
Next would be to restore a gain. First from backup then next to factory settings/new iPod.
The Nike app you can download/install
Nike+ Running for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad on the iTunes App Store
Does work on the iPOd. You just do not get all the information that GPS/cellular connection can get. You will still be able to get distance/footstrikes like the installed app an you do not need the shoe sensor.. It uses the built-in sensors on the iPod

  • IPod 4th gen screen lifting and black spot, what do I do?

Ok so like 2 months ago my iPod 4th gen screen started lifting. I was like woah I have to get that fixed but the weird part was that I had never dropped it. Also after a while it started getting a black spot right next to where it was lifting. I ignored it at first because it was small but then it started getting bigger. My case has kept it together but to clean it I have to take it off and when I snapped it back on the corner where it was lifting cracked. I don't know if this was something like they didn't put on the screen right but I don't wanna have to pay so much to fix something that they did if it was their fault. Help please what do I do
    Would the warranty cover this?

If the iPod was not abused it is covered by the warranty.

  • IPod 4th Gen Screen Popping Off

Recently, my little brother noticed his screen popping off, we ignored it thinking it wouldn't move up any farther. About a month later, the screen is popped up so much, he can't use the home button anymore. Can we get it repaired? Also, can we exchange the iPod for a new one at Target or any other nearby store?

If within warranty you can try go to eithr the place you purchaded it (If not Apple) or to an Apple store.  Make asn Appointment at the Genkus Bar of an Apple store.

If the iPod was abused, 9e.g., dropped) that voids the Apple warranty.
Apple will replace it with a refurbished iPod. If not underwarranty the exchange price is $99, $149 or $199 depending upon the capacity.

  • My Ipod 4th Gen screen got viciously cracked an the screen is unresponsive. Can I get it fixed?

Okay, so, I just found my Ipod today after it has been lost for two months. It was under my recliner in my living room. Both buttons are functional and work and it charges just fine. However, there's one big vicious crack near the bottom left corner. It looks as if someone dug their heel into it. Then, near the button, the glass is tore up. It doesn't look like much damage happened other than that in that area. But, when I turn on the ipod, the screen has vertical blue and red lines on the side and one horizontal green line in the middle. And there's horizontal white lines that are on the bottom of the screen. Also, in the bottom left hand corner of the screen (which is near the bad crack I mentioned) it's got a white cloud with grey in the middle. It covers where the begining of where you would swipe to unlock the ipod. Which, I cannot do. But once I charged it and it flashed to put in the code, whenever I put my finger near the button, it would press that button even though I didn't touch it. The upper half of the touch screen works perfectly, just not the bottom half.
Now, I really need to get to my notes on it. None of my notes are on my email, so that's not an option. I need to know if I can just get this repaired, so I can use it, or if it is past the point of repair and I have to replace it.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • Ipod 4th gen. screen too dark, adjusting brightness does not help

lost ipod for a few weeks. When found screen is too dark.  If you hold it in the light just right you can see everything and it works, you just cant see it.

That actually happened to my friend. But he literally took the screen off and then did something in the inside but I'm not sure what he did. But yeah it should be something on the inside of the screen.

  • Question about iPod 4th Gen Diagnostic Mode

I am having a problem with my iPod. 4th Generation, 40GB Model A1059.
I am interested in what should be the expected results in two of the Diagnostic modes.
    HDD R/W; and
    HDD SCAN
In the Scan test mode, I get a "Pass" message and when I press "play" I go back to the diagnostic mode menu. So I guess this means I passed the HD Scan.
In the R/W test mode, I get a message that reads
    HDD Test
    38 GB
But pressing 'play' nothing happens, and it seems (feels and sounds)like the hard drive is still spinning.
So is the test still underway, or am I finished with the test when I see the "38 GB" message on the display?
I did a search of this site and the internet and really can't figure out what the anticipated result should be. It just won't let me search under "HDD R/W" It seems that the / is some kind of boolean conector that the search engine reads as something other than a ASCII character.
For anyone who may be interested in my problem, here it is:
It used to run forever with the Apple Logo. I put it away and came back to it recently hoping the problem would have magically gone away. Well it hasn't. Now the HDD just 'clicks' It goes something like 1,2,3,"click"... 1,2,3"click" until the file folder with an exclamation pint comes up.
Interestingly enough, the 1,2,3,"click"... 1,2,3"click" happens in the HD Scan Mode Test, but when I run the HDD R/W mode test the drive seems to spin freely without the 'click'

  • If I replace my Ipod touch 4th gen screen with a local company other than Apple will the apple warrenty be void or will the warrenty be void if I replace the screen myself?

If I replace my Ipod touch 4th gen screen with a local company other then Apple will the Apple warrenty be void or will the warrenty be void if I replace the screen myself?

Regardless of what Apple may or may not say about repair work done by a third party (a non-Apple company or you yourself), the Magnuson-Moss Act precludes them from voiding your warranty simply because you had work done by a third party or used non-OEM parts.  Typically people hear of thie Act as it is applied to cars. Car manufacturers cannot require you go to a dealership for repairs or that you use OEM parts. They cannot void your warranty for doing that. The Act applies to all consumer goods. Computer manufacturers cannot require you send your computer to them for memory upgrades or that you use memory supplied by them. Apple cannot require you to go to Apple for repair work or that you use Apple parts in that repair.
With that said, though, if you have a problem in the future, Apple could make the claim that it was the result of damage from improper repair or substandard parts. Your only recourse would be the court system, not a quick or inexpensive endeavor.

  • My ipod 4th gen went onto a blank white screen and turned off. what should i do?

My iPod 4th gen was dead so I charged it, the apple sign appeared and stayed on the screen for about 10 minutes then went onto a blank white screen and turned off. Now I can't charge it and it has already happened multiple times. what should I do? I also don't know which iOS operating system it is, does that matter?

  • I have a few scratches on my iPod touch 4th gen screen and it really bothers me I need a way to get rid of them

I have a few scratches on my iPod touch 4th gen screen and it really bothers me and I need a way to fix it without replacing the screen or causing further damage

Hey Pandorafromtn, Not to rub salt in you open wounds, but prevention would have cost less than $10! Anything that will remove the scratches will most likely ruin the screen. I am aware of a product that works well for fill scratches in eyeglasses. It paints on, is kind of milky semi-transparent then drys to a haze. You then rub / polish until clear. Will it damage the coating on an iPod screen? I don't know. But may be for not, I can't remember the name of the stuff. I guess contact a eye care center, they may be able to help. Replacing the screen would be the best option you have or learn to live with it. In the future use a case and/or screen protector. Or you could start working on your incantations, "Oculus Repairus!" Don't forget the flick of the wrist to get your wand in the correct angle as you state "Repairus". All joking aside, Good luck. Cheers.
