Connect to Exchange proxy using an application

Scenario: My company's Exchange server can be accessed from the internet without vpn only by outlook. This is because of the 'outlook anywhere' functionality. From what I have understood, it connects to a proxy server which in turn accesses the mail server.
What I have: A .net application that downloads attachments from a folder on my mail, sends mails based on the downloaded information.
What I would like to do: I want to know if there is any way I can make the application that can make use of the outlook anywhere functionality.  If its possible, where should I start?

Hi,
I don't know how you would do this, you may be better off posting in developer forums but I believe you would need to look at implementing activesync into your application to achieve this.

  • Unable to connect to Exchange 2013 using Outlook 2010/2013 with latest patch

    Dear All,
I'm setting up Exchange 2013 CU2 coexist with Exchange 2010 SP3. Since we are still planning and testing, the internet is still pointing to 2010 for send/receive mails.
    The 2013 environment are:-
2 X CAS server with MS NLB configured
    2X MBX server with DA
    Internal NLB/licent access: excas2013.int.my.domain
External access (current set on 2010 as well): webmail.my.domain
Certificate with valid subject name has been import to 2013 and 2010:
    CN: webmail.mydomain
    SAN: excas2013.int.my.domain
    SAN: excas.int.my.domain (for 2010)
I am able to connect to my Exchange 2010 user thru 2013 CAS server and proxy to exhcnage 2010 by outlook. However, I cannot connect to Exchange 2013 user by outlook. During mail profile create of Exchange 2013 user by autodiscover (pointed to exchange 2013),
    the process looks good:-
    Establish network connection (checked)
Searching for [email protected] server settings (checked)
    Log on to server
The process stop at "Log on to server" and a windows prompt, saying:
The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
    Clicked OK, I can see:-
    MS Exchange Server:
    [email protected]
    Mailbox:
    =SMPT:[email protected]
WHen I click "Check Name", it said The name cannot be resolved.
I have no idea of what is going on. Just want some help~

I have checked the iis log:-

  • Connect to Exchange 2013 using IMAP/SMTP from the Internet

    Hello,
I would like to enable connectivity to my exchange server using imap and smtp. my exchange server is using the default configuration for imap and smtp which are port 143 and 25 respectively. I have two exchange servers both with CAS and MB roles
installed. I also have an edge server on my DMZ. I have also published my OWA using IIS ARR module. I wonder where I should direct my traffic from my firewall to enable IMAP connectivity taking into considerations my two servers with CAS and MB roles are inside
my network. I also wonder how I can enable redundancy for IMAP connections. Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Pooriya
    Pooriya Aghaalitari

    Hi Pooriya,
When you install Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, IMAP4 client connectivity isn't enabled. We can do the following steps to configure it:
    1. Start two IMAP services: the Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 service and the Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 Backend service.
    Set-service msExchangeIMAP4 -startuptype automatic
    Start-service msExchangeIMAP4
    Set-service msExchangeIMAP4BE -startuptype automatic
    Start-service msExchangeIMAP4BE
    2. Make sure there is an valid certificate which is assigned with IMAP service. Also confirm the Published Exchange server name (For example: mail.domain.com) has been included in this certificate:
    Get-ExchangeCertificate | FL
    3. Configure the external IMAP connection settings:
    Set-ImapSettings -ExternalConnectionSetting {mail.domain.com:993:SSL}
    4. Configure SMTP settings:
    Get-ReceiveConnector "*\client Frontend*" | Set-ReceiveConnector -AdvertiseClientSettings $true -Fqdn mail.domain.com
    5. You must restart IIS service (running IISReset /noforce from the Command Prompt window) after applying all settings.
For more information about IMAP in Exchange 2013, please refer to:

  • Connecting to Exchange Online using module vs. manually : module wont work

I'm nearly at my wits' end.
I have installed MSOnline, and Active Directory modules for PS 3.0.
I've created a PS module which contains a function, "connect-exchange" which simply gets my credentials, creates a new session for Microsoft Exchange online, then connects to MSonline and imports the PSsession for exchange. I run PS as administrator
(windows 7), set-executionpolicy unsigned, open $profile and add in the modules I'll use most (Active Directory, MS Online, and my custom module). I run PS as my normal user, and get-module reports all three modules are loaded, including my custom one. I run
the function "connect-exchange" and it goes as expected. I am redirected to two URI's and a Module name is listed with exported commands pertinent to managing Exchange Online. Great. The problem is that
none of the cmdlets work, and the Exchange Online tmp module does not show up in get-module.
The kicker is that If I open my custom module with the connect-exchange function, highlight the actual commands in the function and run them manually, everything works properly.
Letting PS do the module makes it appear to work, except nothing related to my exchange session shows up in get-module, and none of the cmdlets are available. Manually running the exact same code that is in the module makes it work.
This is my custom module, which loads when I start powershell:
    Function Connect-Exchange()
    $cred = Get-Credential
    $Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://ps.outlook.com/powershell/ -Credential $cred -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection
    Connect-MsolService -Credential $cred
    Import-PSSession $Session
Running "connect-exchange" does connect, and this is the output (it is identical to the output as when I run the commands in the function manually, as would normally be expected):
    PS H:\> Connect-Exchange
cmdlet Get-Credential at command pipeline position 1
Supply values for the following parameters:
WARNING: Your connection has been redirected to the following URI: "https://pod51009psh.outlook.com/powershell-liveid?PSVersion=3.0 "
WARNING: Your connection has been redirected to the following URI: "https://by2prd0412psh.outlook.com/powershell-liveid?PSVersion=3.0 "
    ModuleType Name ExportedCommands
    Script tmp_j1a0we4q.sad {Add-AvailabilityAddressSpace, Add-DistributionGroupMember, Add-MailboxFolderPermiss...
Get-module doesn't give me this module, tmp_j1a0we4q.sad. No Script modules are listed that give me any exchange exported commands. Get-PSsession shows 1 session, opened with Microsoft.Exchange . No exchange online cmdlets are available to me at this point
(including any of the ExportedCommands listed above).
If I remove the session, open the custom module (listed at the top of this message), highlight the code in the connect-exchange function, then F8, I get the exact same output as the 2nd box listed above, but my exchange cmdlets are available and usable.
Any ideas why the function which is part of a module which is imported at the start of each PS session does not seem to work the same as running the commands in the function independently?

    Hey Ben,
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd878284%28v=vs.85%29.aspx will probably give you a hint.
"When a module is imported, a new session state is created for the module, and a
PSModuleInfo object is created in memory. A session-state is created for each module that is imported (this includes the root module and any nested modules). The members that are exported from the root module, including any members that were exported to
the root module by any nested modules, are then imported into the caller’s session state."
Perhaps, because that module has it's own session, it's modules are being missed or are precluded from being imported into subsequent sessions. I do something very similar to you, except I just include the Connect-Exchange function in my profile.ps1 directly
instead of creating a custom module.
    Good luck!
    Shane

  • Outlook 2013 randomly loses connection to Exchange 2007 server

    Hello everyone,
I have received complaints from some of our users over the past couple of months about them not receiving mails or about sending mails which do not get delivered. A little bit of investigation into the matter showed me that Outlook 2013 had lost its connection
to the Exchange server. (Which is Exchange 2007 SP3 running on Windows Server 2008 / SBS2008, in case it matters.)
Which is bad enough in itself - none of our users running Outlook 2007 and 2010 had that problem - but it also does so in a rather inconspicuous manner, so the users did not notice. Closing and restarting Outlook helped every single time, but the users did
not notice when this happened, and telling them to just restart Outlook every hour or so does not seem like an overloy practical idea.
All of the clients encountering the problem are running Outlook 2013 on Windows 8/8.1 Pro. We do not have any clients running older versions of Outlook on Windows 8, so I cannot tell for sure if this problem originates in the OS or if it is an Outlook problem.
The first couple of times I encountered the problem, it was on laptops, so I suspected some power management issue initially. I made sure Outlook connected to the server via HTTPS, which it already did. Then I did not hear of the problem for about two months,
but recently, two of our users have run into the problem again, and while these were still Windows 8.1 machines, running, of course, Outlook 2013, they are plain desktop computers, not laptops, and I already toned down their power management settings, so I
do not think that it has to do with the problem.
Has anybody encountered a similar problem or even - more importantly - a solution? This problem is really frustrating, because our users are very sensitive to problems with their email, and the fact that this problem only occurs randomly and - all in all
    - rather rarely, makes it very hard to track down.
Thank you all very, very much for any insights you might be able to share with me!

    Hi,
Please ensure that Outlook 2013 clients retain their connection with the Exchange server using HTTP:
Have the Outlook 2013 user check the settings under FILE -> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> E-mail tab -> Select the account and click Change -> More Settings -> Connection tab -> Exchange Proxy Settings -> Make sure both
"On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" and "On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" are selected -> OK.

  • Problem in connecting to exchange server

I have generated a certificate as specified in the link http://www.dylanbeattie.net/docs/openssl_iis_ssl_howto.html. It generates an X.509 certificate. I installed this certificate on pop3 server on Microsoft exchange server. I also installed the certificate on client m/c. On client m/c, a Java application is running, which tries to read mails from exchange server using SSL. But this exception occurs when I run my java application:
    javax.mail.MessagingException: Connect failed;
    nested exception is:
javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target

It seems I am unable to connect to exchange server using this certificate. While I also tried a free trial certificate from thawte, that worked fine. Could u help resolving my problem?
    Thanks

Peddard, you will have to be more specific on your settings. It's important to note that the iPhone's host name entry must resolve both internally and externally if it's going to work correctly. So, on your internal DNS server, you must make a mail entry with the same name as what you are publishing externally. In my case, mail.domainname.com is registered on our external DNS server with a public IP address. On the internal DNS server, mail.domainname.com registers to a 192.168.x.x address.
However, you can find in another post that in my situation, the iPhone would not work correctly on our LAN. It worked everywhere else but the issue seems to be that when on the Edge network and the LAN, there is conflicting DNS resolution. This was intermittent and unreliable at best.
Our workaround was to create a second network, simply wirelessly with a couple of Airport Extreme Base stations on a separate external IP address. Now, DNS resolved to the external address and it works like a charm. Not a fix, but a workaround.

  • Cannot connect to Office 365 using Powershell on Windows 7 SP1

    Hi,
I was trying to connect to Office 365 using windows azure active directory module for Windows Powershell.
    $Cred = Get-Credential
    Connect-MsolService -Credential $cred
It failed on my windows 7 machine with the error
Connect-MsolService : Unable to authenticate your credentials. Make sure that your user name is
in the format: <username>@<domain>. If this issue persists, contact support.
This issue happened in Windows 7 SP1 OS.
But, when I tried the same thing on a Windows 2008 R2 VM, it connected successfully.
This means that the account I was trying to login does have the permissions.
Both the machines ( windows 7 and windows server 2008 R2) have the following pre-requisites installed:
Install Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39267
Windows Azure Active Directory Module for Windows PowerShell (64-bit version)
I checked for other settings needed for this to work at :
(Though these settings are for Windows 8, I have all these settings in Windows 7 as well)

Can someone please tell what is going wrong on my Windows 7 SP1 environment.

  • Strange behaviour when using connection pooling with proxy authentication

    All
I have developed an ASP.NET 1.1 Web application that uses ODP.NET 9.2.0.4 accessing Oracle Database 8i (which is to be upgraded to 10g in the coming months). I have enabled connection pooling and implemented proxy authentication.
I am observing a strange behaviour in the live environment. If two users (User 1 and User 2) are executing SQL statements at the same time (concurrent threads in IIS), the following is occurring:
    * User 1 opens a new connection, executes a SELECT statement, and closes this connection. The audit log, which uses the USER function, shows User 1 executed this statement.
    * User 2 opens the same connection (before it is released to the connection pool?), excutes an INSERT statement, and closes this connection. The audit log shows User 1, not User 2, executed this statement.
Is this a known issue when using connection pooling with proxy authentication? I appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
I tried to reproduce your complaint, but was unable to. I didnt use auditting however, just a series of "select user from dual" with proxy authentication. You might want to see if you can put together a small complete testcase for this and open a sr with support.
    Cheers

    var socket:XMLSocket = new XMLSocket();
    socket.connect( server, 5000 );

    directly connected to internet.
My browser is able to connect to internet means all
    configurations are fine.

  • CacheRefreshException: Connection to system RUNTIME using application...

    Hi experts,
I have a following problem: SXI_CACHE is not functioning with following message.
com.sap.aii.ib.server.abapcache.CacheRefreshException: Connection to system RUNTIME using application RUNTIME lost. Detailed information: Error accessing "http:<xihost>:80xx/run/hmi_service_id_fresh_swcv/int?container=any" with user "XIDIRUSER". Response code is 404, response message is "Not Found".
I have checked users, passwords and roles - everything looks ok. RFC connections too. It is about Netweaver 2004s (SP09) Java stack restart. I tried many Sap notes, but have not found nothing eficient.
It seems to me, that port shall be in range 5xx00 not 80xx. Manually, I have tried 5xx00 port in broser and it works.
Integration Engine (ICM) port was in range 5xx00 which I have changed to 80xx (in TC SMICM, Exchange profiles and SLD) according to recomendations. All this started to happen after J2EE Stack restart.
Why is it pooling wrong port ?
    Regards
    Jurica

    FYI
In mean time we found the problem:
On of exchange Profile parameters (com.sap.aii.connect.integrationserver.httpport) was set to wrong port - to 80xx instead of 5xx00. After Java Stack restart from SMICM, everything was ok again.
So, this is actually Java Stack port parameter,  com.sap.aii.connect.integrationserver.r3.httpport is ABAP Stack port.

     Hi,
One of my ex-colleagues has installed a NI-DAQ 6.5 in our system. [And I do not see any other naitional instruments card in the CPU of the computer, may be he removed it] I deleted the account and all his files in the system. When I am trying to install version8.0, its not getting installed and giving me a message that I should uninstall the previous version by going to Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
I tried doing that, but the "Change/Remove" button does not seem to work...[There is no response and so unable to install the new version...]
Any idea how can this problem be solved?
It is a windowsXP operating system with SP2 installed on a machine with P4 processor.
    Thanks

  • Why can't I connect to Exchange Server 2003? I'm using OS Lion. My iphone connects, what am I doing wrong?

Why can't I connect to Exchange Server 2003? I'm using OS Lion. My iphone connects, what am I doing wrong?

the iPhone uses active sync. Desktop clients do not. Desktop clients use another exchange protocol (which i can't remember as i'm not a microsofty).
Just because you can access via active sync doesn't mean you can access it by other methods, and vice versa.

  • Using Outlook (2010 & 2013) to connect to Exchange using EWS

    First things first.
I know that Outlook on the PC platform uses MAPI to connect to Excahnge while the Mac flavor of Outlook uses EWS, however, i was cycling through some available EX and ExO PowerShell cmdlets and found a parameter for set-casmailbox named EWSAllowOutlook Which
leads me to believe that configuring this setting should allow Outlook to use EWS to connect to Exchange. (This is a separate parameter from EWSAllowMacOutlook).
I tried a manual configuration (entering in the EWS url and setting the correct Outlook Anywhere settings) with no success.
I also tried manual configuration of an outlook.com and activesync account and entering the EWS URL as well with no success.
Has anyone successfully configured Outlook for PC to connect to Exchange using EWS and how did you configure the client?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Sorry for the late reply.
About the EWSAllowOutlook parameter, I have something to clarify.
This parameter allow or disallow Outlook 2007 to access EWS for the user.
Outlook uses EWS for free/buzy, OOF settings, and calendar sharing.
Outlook connect to Exchange server by using MAPI is a by design behavior.
    We cannot change this.
    Hope it is helpful
