Connect to sql server from 10g webforms using exec sql

Hi
We are embarking on a project to upgrade our 6i client server forms to 10g web
based. One of our forms uses the exec_sql package to open a connection to an MS
SQL Server database and execute queries on that database.
Oracle open client adapter and an odbc driver for SQL Server is installed on
every client to achieve this. I have read that open client adapter is no longer
available on 10g.
I also read that there a feature of the Oracle database called Generic
Connectivity which would allow us to install an odbc driver on the database
server and allow us to connect to sql server. However I discovered that this
feature is not supported on TRU64 - the operating system our database runs on.
I have read about Oracle Transparent gateways but I have been informed that they are not supported from forms.
Is there any alternative? How can our webform connect to sql server and execute
queries against it? The sql we need to execute is already sql server compliant so no translation is required - just a simple pass through
thanks
paul schweiger

I used in the past Forms 6i against DB2 on a mainframe through Transparent Gateway for DB2. So I'm wondering who did you tell such a configuration does not work. And the migration guide states:
/* Open Client Adapters (OCA)
In order to provide platform-independent access to a wider range of non-Oracle data sources, use the Oracle Transparent Gateway and Generic Connectivity solutions in place of OCA. */
At least gateway is mentioned.

  • Unable to connect to Admin Server from second machine using WLST

    Hello,
    PROBLEM
    Can't get WLST to connect to admin server from 2nd host to register the domain.
    SETUP
    I have 2 Centos VMs running on Oracle Virtual box in a single laptop. Both the VMs use "Bridged Networking".
    VM-1 CONFIG
    cat /etc/hosts
    192.168.1.17
    dom1 dom1.my mac1
    192.168.1.51
    centos2 mac2
    VM-1 hosts admin server & one managed server
    VM-2 CONFIG
    192.168.1.51
    mac2
    192.168.1.17
    centos1 mac1
    VM-2 hosts just one managed server
    I can start up admin on VM-1 fine. The node manager is reachable too. Both the VMs are can be pinged from each other. I can also telnet to the admin server's port ( telnet 192.168.1.17 7001) from the second server.
    My HOST OS is Windows 7. I can ping from windows to both the VM IPs too. The reverse is working fine as well.
    I've tried both mechanisms of copying the whole domain from machine 1 over to machine2 & also using the pack.sh/unpack.sh combinations to transfer the domains.
    When I invoke WLST, this is what happens
    ./wlst.sh

    Kind Regards

    Hi Raj,
    Issue is with NM registry with domain home. Please follow the below steps and let us know the status.
    1 . Check whether the node manager port ( default 5556 ) is opened for communication on both Admin and Managed server.
    2 . After opening the port - We would need to enroll the node manager home with domain home to establish the communication between Admin and Managed server.
       a .  Start the Administration Server.
       b .  Using the Administration Console update the Node Manager credentials from the Advanced options under domain_nameArrow symbolSecurityArrow symbolGeneral.
       c .  Invoke WLST and connect to an Administration Server using the connect command. See Using the WebLogic Scripting Tool in WebLogic Scripting Tool.
       d .  Run nmEnroll using the following syntax:
            nmEnroll([domainDir], [nmHome])
    Running nmEnroll() ensures that the correct Node Manager user and password token are supplied to each Managed Server. Once these are available for each Managed Server, you can use nmConnect() in a production environment.
    Note:     You must run nmEnroll() on each machine that is running a Managed Server. Additionally, you should run nmEnroll() for each domain directory on each machine.

  • Problems connecting to iChat 4 on the server from a computer using iChat 3.

    Is this possible? I am an intern at my school and I am facing this problem. What is happening is we are testing the Leopard server on new iMac 20" and we set up an iChat server. We can log onto the iChat server from the server iMac. But when we attempt to access the 10.5 server from our computers using Tiger (10.4.10), it says that we can not connect to the server. We are using the same user name and config as on the 10.5 server Any ideas?
    This is the error message I receive when I attempt to connect to the iChat 4 10.5 server from a computer using Tiger (10.4.10):
    Could not connect to host "server name here"
    We currently have another iChat server set up on a server using Tiger and set up the 10.5 iChat server in the same way, yet it still will not work.

    I too ran into the problem of iChat on 10.4.x, along with Adium, not succeeding at connecting to the Jabber process on MOSXS v.10.5.1, but simply editing the /etc/jabberd/c2s.xml file to comment out the "gssapi" authentication fixed it up swell. In our case, Active Directory isn't an issue since we're an all-Mac shop.
    Here's the relevant section excerpted from the file:

  • New install issue-unable to connect to DB server from a remote client.

    Hi experts,
    I am new to setting up oracle server so pls bear with me...
    I setup a db server (11g on top of 64bit Oracle Linux) at home (static 192.168.1.90). I verified that db, listener are up and running. However, I tried to connect to the server from a different client machine (192.168.1.108) within my home network but the server cannot be reached. I was able to ping both client and server using the IP addresses and hostnames. I followed the following steps to perform troubleshooting but was unable to move on beyond step 3, telnet-ing the server on port 1521. Can someone help me out what I should do make the port # (1521) is reachable by the client?
    1. Check with "ping" using the IP address ("ping 198.11.34.43"
    2. Check with "ping" using DNS name (e.g. "tnsping uranus")
    3. Try telnet to the IP on port 1521 (telnet 1.2.3.4 1521)
    4. Check with "tnsping" using TNS service name
    5. Invoke SQL*Plus from the OS command line "sqlplus fred@flintstone". If this fails, check to ensure that your listener is the flintstone service defined.
    6. Sign-on to SQL*Plus and connect with the TNS name ("connect fred/flintstome@service_name"
    7. Within SQL*Plus, try a select from table@remote_db_link
    thanks a lot in advance.

  • Connect to Oracle 7 from 10g

    Hello,
    I am trying to build a data transfer interface between two servers.
    Server 1: Oracle 7.x running on Unix server
    Server 2: Oracle 10g running on Windows 2003 server.
    Gateway Server: ???? on Windows XP(resides in the same network as Server 1).
    I want to create a DB link from Server 2 (10g) to Gateway server which in turn connects to Server 1 (7x).
    Using the DB links, I would like to process the data transfer between the two servers using multiple programs.
    Could you please advise on the best Oracle version to use in the Gateway server so that Client connectivity is not an issue between (Server 2 & Gateway) & (Gateway & Server 1)?
    Please note that connection will only be made in one direction as mentioned below.
    Server 2 (10g) -> Gateway (??) -> Server 1 (7x).

    The only option youhave is 8.1.7.4, i know this will work as the "man in the middle" between 10g an 7.3.4 i think it works with 7.2.2 (can't remember that far back), earlier versions of 7 Im not sure about

  • Connecting oracle 8.x from 10g

    Dear sir,
    i am accessing oracle 8.1.5 database from oracle 10g sql plus. I am getting ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported.
    Is their any solution?
    Thanks.

    if you have no option to upgrade the 8.1.5 database you can set up an 8.1.7.4 database as a man in the middle, effectivly you link from 10g->8.1.7.4->8.1.5 create views in the 8.1.7.4 database for all the objects you want to acces in the 8.1.5 database.
    the best solution is to upgrade to a supported version, although I know this isn't always a viable option in the short term.

    We are monitoring a specific windows service on a server using Sitescope remote monitoring. The sitescope system uses a WMI method to Check if the service on a specific server is up or not. Initially it works like a charm but over time the WMI connections from
    sitescope time out and we have been told that Sitescope is not closing the WMI connection it opens gracefully and the open connections pile up.
    I am looking for a way to list open WMI connections to a specific service and/or server from a remote system and a way to kill those connections via a scheduled PowerShell (or batch/perl) script. I was able to list specific classes by -list parameter
    of the Get-WmiObject cmdlet
    but am unable to determine which class will give me the information that I require and the method to kill those connections.

    Sitescope is not closing the WMI connection it opens gracefully and the open connections pile up.
    1. It's not clear what "not closing the WMI connection it opens gracefully" means. WMI is a management technology that uses DCOM to connect to remote computers. (Is it really a question about DCOM?)
    2. It's not clear what specifically "open connections pile up" means and what problem(s) it causes.
    3. This is really a support question for that software's developer, not a question about WMI.

  • Error while creating Connection to  BPEL Server From Jdev.

    Hi All,
    I Installed an Oracle XE database on my windows machine , and Run the IRCA tool to create Orabpel, Oraesb and Orawsm in the XE database
    Deinstalled my current SOA Suite[Basic] and Reinstall the SOA Suite using the "advanced" option.
    Started the server and could able to create a connection to AS, but when i try to create a connection to BPEL Server it's error out with below error message.
    Application Server: OK
    BPEL Process Manager Server: FAILED
    ESB Server: FAILED
    What could be the reason..
    I didn't modified any file in AS directory with Database details ,Since while installing SOA Suite it asked for the DB Details and forced me to execute all the scripts against this DB,So i assume it knows the connection string.
    Let me know how can i solve this issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Siddhardha

    HI
    In JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.0,
    1. Click on the tab for the Connections navigator.
    2. Right click on Application Server and select New Application Server Connection.
    3. Enter a descriptive name for the new connection, and select the appropriate connection type from the drop down list. Click Next.
    4. Specify oc4jadmin for User Name, then enter the oc4jadmin password. Click Next.
    5. Select Single Instance for Connect To, then provide the host name where BPEL is installed, the OPMN port number, and the OC4J instance name (the default for 10.1.3.1 is oc4j_soa). Click Next.
    6. Click Test Connection. If you have been successful, you should see "Success!"
    7. Now, right click on Integration Server and select New Integration Server Connection.
    8. Specify a connection name and click Next.
    9. In the drop down list by Application Server, select the Application Server Connection you just created. Again, specify the host name where BPEL is installed and the port number. This port number will be the same that you specified for the Integration Server Connection to the home OC4J container. Click Next.
    10. Test the connection. You should see something like:
    Application Server: OK
    BPEL Process Manager Server: OK
    ESB Server: OK
    11. Now, return to the Applications navigator, and try to redeploy your process using the Integration Server Connection just created. (It is possible that you will have to close JDeveloper and then reopen it for this to work.)
    Cheers

  • Error while connecting to MDM server from Webdynpro

    Hi ,
       I am trying to connect to MDM server (5.5 SP04 no patches) through a webdynpro application . The following is the piece of code that I am using as a test .
    CatalogData CatalogData = new CatalogData();
        int resultLogin = 0;
        try {
              resultLogin = CatalogData.Login("USNOC01AQ05",2005,"Admin","Erico1234","English [US]");
        }catch(Exception e){
              wdContext.currentContextElement().setValueattr("Not Connected");
             //System.out.println("Error while establishing connection");
        if (resultLogin != RC.RC_OK){
              wdContext.currentContextElement().setValueattr("Not Connected");
             //System.out.println("Error logging to the SDM server");
             //System.exit(-1);
         wdContext.currentContextElement().setValueattr("Connected");
        //System.out.println("MDM server connected");
    The import statements are as follows
    import a2i.common.CatalogData;
    import a2i.generated.RC;
    I have put the following jar files in the java build path
    MDM4J
    mdm-admin
    mdm-common
    mdm-core
    mdm-data
    mdm-protocol
    When I deploy my application I get the following error
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: a2i/common/CatalogData
    It can't be determined from the exception chain, which class loader failed to load the above class. But at least the class loader of the current application does not contain a resource with name 'a2i/common/CatalogData'.
    What do you guys think is the problem ?
    Regards
    DeepaK Singh

    Hi ,
       I found a document which says that MDM4J is the legacy API and is considered deprecated .The MDM Java API is the new one .I have both of them in the java build path . I am not sure if this is that cause of the problem .
    Now I had a look at the javadoc for the new API but I am not able to locate the class to obtain a connection to the MDM server from a custom application being built in Netweaver Developer Studio . Can someone help me out with the same ?What would be the code to obtain the connection to the MDM server with the new JAVA API ?

  • Cannot connect to DI Server from IIS

    Hi,
    I have a working installation of IIS and DI server on my laptop (running XP SP1). On my laptop, I can make SOAP calls to the DI Server from .asp pages running on the IIS.
    However, I installed the DI server on a Windows 2003 Server with IIS 6 and tried to use the same configurations. Now, I cannot get any connection to the DI Server. The DI Server log only displays information about the start and stop events (on my laptop, each SOAP request is recorded in the log). I examined the IIS log file and this is what I found:

  • Error connecting to BOBJ server from Power Query

    I am getting this error when I try to connect to the BO server from Power Query;
    DataSource.Error: SapBusinessObjects: Unable to connect to the remote server
    Details:
       here it lists my URL which this posts didn't allow me to have.
    I know my server is otherwise up and running.  No problem connecting to Launchpad or CMC or IDT.
    This is the 1st time I am using Power Query.  What is missing?
    Abdul

    Hi,
    This is a generic error about not being able to reach the server.
    You should make sure that there are no typos in the hostname and to include the port number, which is 6405 by default.
    e.g: http://powerquerysap:6405/biprws

  • Impossible to connect to BPEL server from Jdeveloper

    We have installed the soa suite in the following way
    -     oracle home 1 on server 1: http server
    -     oracle home 2 on server 1: apps server with two oc4j, one for the jsso and em and another one for bpel.
    I want to deploy the bpel process from jdeveloper.
    I first do a server connection to the server 1. When I try to test the connection I get an error
    Error getting OC4J Process for: opmn-home+oc4j-oraclesoa.smartwavesa.com-6004-default:
    Error connecting to OPMN (is it running?): Connection refused: connect
    So I tried to modify the opmn.xml of oracle home 2 by adding the following line
    <ipaddr remote=”0.0.0.0” request=”0.0.0.0”/>
    After this modification I am able to connect to oracle home 2 from jdeveloper BUT the http URL of enterprise manager and bpel console are no more available.
    So my question is how can I enable the deployment of bpel process from Jdeveloper to the server 1?
    Thanks for your help

    Yes admin instance is running on home 2 and more precisely on oc4j_home.
    BPEL and ESB is also running on home 2 but on another oc4j oc4j_soa
    If I use the standard configuration (the one that has been created during the installation) I am able to reach all the consoles BPEL, ESB or Enterprise Manager.
    Here the output of opmnctl status of http server oracle home

  • Can't connect to MSSQL server from Linux

    I'm running CentOS 7. I installed the Microsoft ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server on Linux. I also installed the unixODBC package and dependencies. I can ping the SQL Server. I can telnet to the SQL server on port 1433. My config files read:
    /etc/odbcinst.ini
    [ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server]
    Description=Microsoft ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server
    Driver=/opt/microsoft/msodbcsql/lib64/libsmodbcsql-11-0.so.2270.0
    Threading=1
    UsageCount=1
    /etc/odbc.ini

    When I run "sqlcmd -U <user> -S baew-cms01,1433" (substituting user name) I get a password prompt, then I get:
    1>
    So I assume I'm connected, but I'm not sure. However, when I run "isql -v baew-cms01 <user> <password>" again substituting user and password, I get:
    [IM002][unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified
    [ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect
    Can anyone help me determine why I can't isql to the server?
    Thanks,
    Jack

    I get a password prompt, then I get:
    1>
    So I assume I'm connected, but I'm not sure. However, when I run "isql -v baew-cms01 <user> <password>" again substituting user and password, I get:
    Hello Jack,
    Yes, when you get such a "1>" prompt, then you are connected to SQL Server.
    Please note, isql is deprecated, better use SqlCmd. But if you want to use iSql, then you have to use the -S Parameter for the Server Name, not -v. See isql Utility for all
    Parameters.
