Hi There,
I am a beginner with LabView and I want to use LabView to collect data from a Pump using RS-232.
Could anybody help me where I need to start from?

Hello moizadi,
the best place to start is definitely the excellent Example Finder built in LabVIEW (Help menu -> Find Examples...). Switch to the Search tab and enter the keyword RS-232. This way you will find nicely documented examples for other common tasks as well. You will find further tutorials and more specific examples by searching for RS-232 or serial communication keywords on NI.com search.
If you have further questions, please feel free to ask!

Large Schema file registered and using folders to load the data (WebDAV)

I have a very large schema file that I have registered using binary (Schema file > 30000 lines).
My data has been in MarkLogic and it is organized in a folder structure providing reuse of pieces of the xml.
It seemed the most logical way to load the data was to create the folder structure in XDB and move the files via WebDAV. We also have extensive XQueries written.
My question is how do I query the data back our when it is loaded this way. I have read and experimented with resource_view but that is not going to get me what I need. I would like to make use of my xqueries that I have.
Can i do this, and if so, HOW??

Sure. Let me lay out a with some more specific information.
My schema has an overall root level of "Machine Makeup".
All of these items are defined under it with a lot of element reuse and tons of attribute groups that are used throughout the xml schema. I can do a lot of things but what I cannot do is change the structure of the schema.
The data is currently in a "folder structure" that more closely resembles the following. I have tried to annotate number of files and keep in mind all of these are working documents and additional "record" (xml files) can be added.
Composite - contains 12 folders and each of these folders contain xml documents
compfolder 1
- compfolder 12
Most of these folders contain < 200 .xml files (each with id.xml) as the name of the file however one of these directories currently contains 1546 files. They all belong... no real way to split them up further.
At the same level as composite
About half of these folders at this level contain > 1000 but less than 3000.
Like
PartsUse > 1000 but less than 3000
transfer of parts 8000 and can continue to grow
people > 3000 and these would be used in the transfer of parts like "who sold it" Everytime someone new a new one is added etc.
There are about 12 folders at this level.
Now, the way the system works is a new person that is not in our list is involved the users get a "new" empty xml document to fill in and we assign it an id and place it in the folder.
So it would something like this
Composite
folder1 - 1000 xml file
folder 2 - 200 xml files
folder 12 - < 2000
Locations
contains < 2000 xml files
Activities < 3000 xml files
PartsTransfer 8000 xml files and growing
materials < 1000 xml files
setup < 1000 xml files
people 3000 xml files and growing
groupUse < 1000
and so forth.
All of the folders contain the links I had previously layed out
So Activities would have materialLink id = "333" peopleLink ="666"
And so of and so forth.
So because my file numbers are > than the optimum about half the time, how would I have 3 separate xmltype tables (I understand mine would be more than 3...)the one schema file that is intertwined with others. Can you show me an example. Would I annotate it in the schema at just those levels. This schema file is so huge I would not want to have to annotate all elements with a table. Can I pick and choose to mimic the folder structure?
THANKS SO MUCH for your help. I really want to show that Oracle is the way. I can implement it with a simpler structure but not the size of complexity that I need. I haven't been able to find a lot of examples with the new binary registration.

I use LabVIEW to read the data from serial communication then, i open the example (.vi) from Serial Communication - Advanced Serial Write and Read from LabVIEW Example. BUT it have some error message that : Error - 1073807202 occured at property node in visa configure serial port (instr).vi -> advance serial write and read .vi
this error code is undefined. no one has provide a description for this code, or you might have wired a number that is not an error code to the error code input.
I don't know why? please help me. thank you.

When I copy that code into "Explain Error" I get: "VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF009E) A code library required by VISA could not be located or loaded."
You may have a bad install of VISA or the wrong version of VISA loaded. Try re-installing VISA. You can get the latest version from the NI support site: http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/webcategories/85256410006C055586256BBB002C0E91?opendocument&node=1....
Also ensure that you are not pointing the example towards a serial port that does not exist.
Please let us know what you find and what gets this working for you.

Calling and using LabVIEW VI's in a C# application : user manual ?

Hi everyone,
I am working on a project (actually a proof of concept) where I need to call and use LabVIEW VI's in a C# application.
I downloaded the example available on this page : Calling LabVIEW VIs from Other Programming Languages.
This example (joined) is working fine, but I would like to know if there is an associated documentation concerning the .NET classes that I can use in C# when I use the namespace "LabVIEW" (using LabVIEW; in C#).
I need to know a little more about the properties and methods that are available (what it does and how to use it).
I looked for it on NI's website and the LabVIEW help but could not manage to find anything interesting.
Is there an official documentation released ? How can I get those informations ?

Hi,
The class browser is usefull (ctrl + shift + b), but I am not developing the C# application on the same computer than the LabVIEW application.
The *.chm file has all the informations in it but I am not finding it well organized. I am drowning in all the informations. I supposed there was a specific help file / manual for the ActiveX methods and properties (a kind of hierarchical view like in the class browser).
Also I supposed that there were different methods and properties that the one available in LabVIEW.
For example when I browse the class in C# I get those weird methods :

Your first task should be to just be able to send commands to the instrument. Do as Dennis suggested and download the drivers for the instrument and get familiar with them. Build up small VIs that do little tasks with those drivers so you can get used to them. Then worry about your main interface.

I am gettting the data from rs232 interms of 0 or 1. and i have to print it only if thereis a change in data from 0 to 1. if i use if-loop , each as much time there is 0 or 1 is there that much time the data gets printed. i dont know how to do this program please help me if anybody knows the answer

I have attatched the vi. Here in this it receives the data from rs232 as string and converted into binery. and indicated in led also normally if the data 1 comes then the led's will be off. suppose if 0 comes the corresponding data status is wrtten into the text file. But here the problem is the same data will be printed many number of times. so i have to make it like if there is a transition from 1 to o then only print it once. how to do it. I am doing this from few weeks please reply if you know the answer immediatly

yes i am sure. This are the exact words... "The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to use is full. (Removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space". i tried some options, hard reset, redsnow, tinyumbrella but still it's stuck.

If i understand what you are saying then you are seeing the WiFi indicator after connecting but Apps are saying that they are not connected to the internet?
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be to restart your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

A Java AWT, X11 problem posted in the weblogic ejb newsgroup. I haven't been in here for long, but
that has to be a first.
If you have the DISPLAY env variable set to :0.0, you have to be at the console on a Solaris box
running the XServer. 'xdm' I think is the code that has to be running. Also, I think the format is
<hostname:0.0> or better <hostname:0> unless you are on a multi-headed workstation. Something like:
export DISPLAY=hostname:0
where hostname is the name of the host running an XServer and the .xhosts file allows access to the
XServer from the display client.
Apparently, you are not at the console?
Anyway, I don't think there is a newsgroup here that I could even recommend to cross-post this to as
it is not a WebLogic question. I think I would try the Discussion Forums at http://java.sun.com.

i got the tip of passing -Djava.awt.headless=true to vm to disable system graphic calls but after restart weblogic i still get the same error
i am wondering if this case has something to do with jdk 1.3.1, and perhaps newer versions of jdk can take the parameter and operate correctly

I'm using labview to collect AE streaming data from pacpci2.I have the dll from PAC,and I have written some VIs for streaming data. Now I don't know how to read data to my program from the pci.Can the "getMessage" function do this?

What PAC are you using?
What "Get Message" function are you talking about?
