Connecting To Internet On A Mac Laptop

Hello,
I have a BEFW11S4 Ver. 4 Router, On a Windows XP desktop. I am trying to get internet connection on my MAC laptop. Ive put
the network and WEP password into my laptop but it doesnt connect. No matter what. I called linkseys and they told me that
i needed to change some settings but they couldnt help me because my warranty was expired. Please can somebody help me with my issue.
Thank you,
Andrea

As the Wireless Security on your Router is set to WEP. So whenever you Connect to the MAC computer with WEP security you need to Input the "$" before the security key (Eg: $1234567890), when prompted for the WEP Password... and then you need to click on Join... This will make your MAC Computer Connect to your Wireless Network...

Firefox no longer connects to internet on my mac, and windows machines, after v18. I've tried several solutions from Mozilla support and nothing works. Firefox can't even connect to Mozilla for updates. Firefox just sits on the default search page and attempts to connect to websites by typing URLs, or by clicking on the links on the default search page don't work.

    You could try the following:
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version)
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs, then add it back. For detailed instructions, see Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.

  • How to connect to internet on E72 through Laptop

On all the posts that i have seen, it is possible to connect to the net on the laptop/pc through E72, but i need to do it the other way round. using GPRS all the time to update and/or browse the net/view maps/download app, etc, turns out to be time consuming and expensive.
    Thanking you in advance.....

    Hey MikeHurrell49524952495,
    Welcome to the forums.
Did you purchase this device from your current service provider? Have you contacted your service provider to have them send you the correct service books for browsing?
If you did not purchase this device from your current service provider and they do not sell this device then it is possible that they do not have the correct service books in their system. You are going to need to contact them for more information regarding this.

  • Using my 8330 to connect to internet with a MAC & PC

I have two laptops, one is a Mac Pro - newest computer to the family. And the other is a PC running Windows XP.
I have the software loaded on PC to use my 8330 as a modem to connect to the internet.
My question is can I load the same software onto the MAC pro notebook and use as a modem with the mac as well. I started to do this from the Net, but decided since it appeared different, I would ask you guys first. Do not know if anything gets sent to the phone when it is connected to the PC that would be different on a MAC ?
    anyone know ?

    Hi,
    Late edit. Led you wrong.
You can't use the BB as a tethered modem straight up on the MAC, it might be possible with paralells to Windows XP as you suggested.
I remembered a KB that I read concerning MAC's and tethered modems.
    Thanks,

  • Cannot connect to Internet on my 2nd Laptop... ;-(

    Hello!
I got the internet going on my G4, so that's good, BUT, my second laptop cannot connect to the internet on the Airport. Well at least it seems not to. It simply says "Connection Status: Disabled" on my laptop. ;-(. My laptop is able to locate my Airport but it won't connect...
Once I failed connecting, it gives me the option to get HELP which says:
    Error code: 195
    Issue: Association failed
    Connection Status: Disabled
    Recommendations:
1- Check that the encryption settings (WEP/TKIP/AES) in the profile is the same as of the wireless network setting requirements.
2- Check that the wireless network card in the computer is not blocked to access the network.
I have the wireless netword card (with antenna) ON when accessing, so that's not an issue.
The strange thing as well is that I can locate many other wireless networks in the area where I live, and I even tried to access one of them, which I did successfully. That confirms that my network card is working fine.
I called my ISP (Speakeasy) and they tell me that I don't require to configure the router with any MAC or PPPoE numbers.
If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it!!! I feel like an idiot to able to get this going.
    Thanks!
    Carolin

I got internet from the Airport to my Powerbook G4, through a DSL cable. However, the 2nd laptop (an IBM Thinkpad) cannot get access on the wireless network to the Airport.
I do not know how to check the WEP, WPA, or MAC address on my base station. I tried accessing the "AirPort Admin Utility" in Applications/Utilities but I am not able to access it as well.
    Any suggestions are welcomed!

  • Multiple use of internet cable (Pro Mac – Laptop)

    Hello,
I'm working from home with a Pro Mac (Early 2008) and have a broadband internet connection with a Motorola SB100 SURFboard cable modem.
My wife who works with a Macbook Pro laptop (3 years old) would like to have internet access at home as well. So we both need to be able to share the cable.
The cable companies web site requires:
    (1) 10Base - T multiport Ethernet Hub
Category 5 Cable and RJ45 Jacks
    10 Base-T Ethernet card
But when I called the company I got told I don't need a hub, but a router.
Now I'm a bit confused what to buy. Any suggestions which models would work for both (tower and laptop) Macs. Do we need both, a hub and a router?
Also, I don't think I would need a new Ethernet card, but to be honest I don't know what a 10 base-T card is. My wife doesn't have a Ethernet card on her Laptop. Which model would work for her?
Thanks so much for your help!

    Hi
That cable company literature seems pretty outdated to me!
Actually, right now, if you wanted, you could connect the Macbook Pro to the second ethernet port on your Mac Pro and share the internet directly from there. But I suspect you'd prefer a more flexible solution. So yes, you need a router. What about wireless - would you appreciate being able to connect to the internet from the Macbook anywhere in your house? Check out any inexpensive 802.11g wireless router, such as a Linksys (eg WRT54G) or D-Link (eg WBR-1310) model. You'll have the Mac Pro wired from the router, and the Macbook Pro will be wireless.
Note that I recommend a "802.11g" router - there's a newer, faster wireless system called 802.11n, but if your laptop is three years old, I don't think it will be supported.
Post back if you need any more details or specific router recommendations!
    Matt

  • Re: Connecting though internet when client Macs are on office network

I have a small company with two iMacs at work which are on a network with several other PC's. I have a home office with a Power Mac G5 (not intel based) and a satellite office 1500 miles away in PHX with a MacBook (brand new). I am trying to be able to access and control my main office computers using Apple Remote Desktop.
When I am at the main office with the MacBook and connected to the internet in the office I can use the ARD to control the two iMacs. But when I go home or down to Phoenix I cannot.
I have searched the forums high and low, but I must be computer illiterate. I cannot understand how to make it work. I assume there are some firewalls in the main office? Please help!!!

To be able to connect to a workstation from outside it's network, the ports that ARD uses must be open on both ends of the connection. ARD uses ports 3293 and 5900 so those must be open.
If your workstations get their addresses from an NAT device rather than being "real", the ports also need to be forwarded in the router to the workstation's internal IP address. ARD uses port 3283 for the reporting and updating function, so if your Macs are getting their IP addresses through NAT, since you can only forward a port to a single workstation, you can only get reports, push package/files to etc. for a single workstation.
ARD uses the VNC protocol for observation and control, though, and there are a range of IP addresses for that protocol, starting with 5900. ARD uses 5900 by default, so that port would be forwarded to the first workstation. You would, I believe, need to install VNC servers on the systems (since the ARD client cannot listen on any port other than 5900 while VNC servers can be set for other ports such as 5901, 5902, etc. You would then forward 5901 to the second workstation (and on to 5902, 5903, etc.). You can then use the following information:
Remote Desktop 2: How to specify a port number for a VNC client
    to connect.
The only other options are: 1) to run the ARD administrator on a workstation on the network, and then take control of that system from outside, either via VNC or another copy of ARD, or 2) set up a virtual private network (VPN) so that when you connect from outside, your admin system is officially part of the local network.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I use my airport to connect to Internet with my Mac?

So I currently don't have internet on my iMac right now and so I tried connecting an airport express and making the airport join my current wireless network (since I don't think iMacs can join wifi by themselves), and I entered all the information about the wireless network I want to join, but when I reset my airport to these configurations my iMac can no longer connect with my airport so I'd like some assistance, and if it turns out trying to do this is impossible, I would also like to know that too, thanks.

So I currently don't have internet on my iMac right now and so I tried connecting an airport express and making the airport join my current wireless network (since I don't think iMacs can join wifi by themselves)...
There are numerous iMac models; which exact model do you have as most of the later models have built-in wireless capability? To find out, you can use System Profiler by first clicking on the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the menu bar, and then, selecting the "About this Mac" option.
If your iMac actually does not have wireless and your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n version, you could configure the AX as a wireless Ethernet bridge. Apple calls this a ProxySTA. In this configuration, you would configure it to join an existing wireless network (like you already did) but enable it to support a wired client. You would then connect the iMac directly to the AX by Ethernet.

  • I cannot get my Air to connect to internet through my Mac-Pro (2013).

I have a router in the house which provides WiFi and I can connect my MacBook air to the internet in the house, no problems.
I also have a shed at the bottom of the garden where my Mac-Pro (2013) lives.  The Mac-Pro is connected by a cable to the router in the house; this works well.  But this too far from the house for Wi-Fi to work from the router to the Air.  So I have set up the Mac_Pro to share its internet connection and given the network name and password, etc.
But the Mac Air cannot see this network and reports "No network found".
How can I establish that the Mac Pro has indeed set up its Wi-Fi network?

    Thanks for your concern.
Yes, I had found that article too.  I have repeated my actions precisely to those instructions several times and all produce the same result on the Air: "No network found".  Yet the Air can find the network in the house with no trouble.
Usually these error messages are correct and the problem then is finding how they are true.  So this was why I asked 'How can I establish that the Mac Pro has indeed set up its Wi-Fi network?'  The article provides no answer to this question.
Can anyone answer my question or assist in other ways?
    regards,
    Tim

  • PC Connecting thru Airport but Not mac

I am unable to connect to internet on my mac thru Airport Extreme. My PC is picking up my network fine. Network does not show up when scanning for available networks. When I entered my network and password it tells me airport is plugged in but not connected and when I use Asisstant to try I am told my password is invalid (which it is not.)
I have trashed preferences, restarted, run disk utility. I just turned on computer this morning and no connection. Thank you

Microsoft's WPA2 Fix for PC's fixes issues where PCs cannot connect to modern wireless routers.
To fix connection issues to Airports from PCs, just google WPA2 Fix for XP .
Now for my Rant... This is a hot fix that was released by Microsoft in 2005. Even brand new laptops being sold today, with XP, and then running the 116 updates from Microsoft will not automatically get this update! You must manually search, download and run it. How does Microsoft continue to have such garbage support?
