Connection problems to Analysis Services (local)

Hi everybody,
I can not access to "Analysis Services" in local way with SQL Server Management Studio. I get the following error:
"Unable to establish a connection. Make sure the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)"
"You can not establish a connection because the target machine expressly rejected that connection 127.0.0.1:2383 (System)"
I have checked the related services and they are running:
SQL Analysis Services (InstanciaName) - En ejecución - LocalSystem
SQL Server  (InstanciaName) - En ejecución - LocalSystem
SQL Server Reporting Services  (InstanciaName) - En ejecución - LocalSystem
SQL Server Agent  (InstanciaName) - En ejecución - LocalSystem
SQL Server Browser   (InstanciaName) - En ejecución - LocalSystem
I have checked that the only port whitch is listening is the 2382, and not the 2383:
C:\Windows\system32>netstat /abo | findstr 238
  TCP    0.0.0.0:2382           ServerName:0             LISTENING       2016
  TCP    [::]:2382                 ServerName:0             LISTENING       2016
Any idea about what is causing the problem?
Thank you.
Best regards,

Thanks for your reply,
The list of services running is the following, before it was an example:
SQL Analysis Services (ALTIRIS) - En ejecución - LocalSystem
SQL Server  (ALTIRIS)
- En ejecución - LocalSystem
SQL Server Reporting Services  (ALTIRIS)
- En ejecución - LocalSystem
SQL Server Agent  (ALTIRIS)
- En ejecución - LocalSystem
SQL Server Browser   (ALTIRIS)
- En ejecución - LocalSystem
ALTIRIS is my instancename.
When I try to connect, I put "(local)" in the SQL Server Management Studio, but I get the error.

  • "The PowerPivot service application could not connect to the Analysis Services instance"

    Hi
I am baffled by this one.  I have a PowerShell script I have built up to install PowerPivot, which I have put together by reading various blogs and by picking apart the scripts that come with the PowerPivot installer.
However, once I have built the service app and installed/activated the solutions and features, I get the error "The PowerPivot service application could not connect to the Analysis Services instance" when trying to use it.  I can't find any
more detailed messages, even with verbose logging turned on.  SSAS\PowerPivot is of course installed and connected to Excel as it should be.
I have tried running the PowerPivot for SharePoint validation tool and it doesn't find anything.
If I install PowerPivot using the PowerPivot for SharePoint installer, then delete the service app and rerun my scripts, everything then works fine.
So there is something the installer is doing that I am not, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is.  I though it might be permission related, but the official installer installs the service under the farm account, not my BI service account.
Ahaa, I thought, but when I then reinstall the service myself with my scripts, using my BI service account, the service app then works, so I don't think it can be permission related.
Doing a Google search on that message pulls up only one old post (repeated a few times), which talks about using a domain account for the SSAS instance instead of a Local System account - I am using the same domain service account for SSAS, Excel and
PowerPivot already, so that doesn't help me much.
Does anyone have any ideas for me or suggestions on how I might proceed?

Did you run the "Run PowerPivot for SharePoint Configuration Tool" after installing PowerPivot and did that work okay?

    Hi all,

    Thanks!

    Thanks for your reply.
The error I got in the OC4J window is : WARNING java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect
However, I have now been able to login to BI Publisher as Administrator. What I did was uninstall the full OBIEE (Basic) installation, and instead installed the BI Publisher component only, (along with OC4J).
Works fine now, although I don't know why it didn't work with the full install. Any ideas?

The username needs to be fully qualified, ie DOMAIN\Username.
So if the username is "Anne" and this is a local account on the MSAS server then you enter ".\Anne" (without the quotes).

Hi, I setup connection to SASS from dashboard designer using Unattended Account, and everything was fine. Then I started to configure connection with Kerberos using Per-user Identity authentication, and after long customization it started to work. But in

    Hi Adrian,
Sorry for misunderstanding and thanks for the additional information.
As I searched, there are tips for your situation:
    1. of the great new features of PerformancePoint Services is that you can now select different authentication options for each data source you create rather than having to decide on one authentication model to use for each web application.
2.If SharePoint is configured in standalone mode Per-user Identity authentication is only supported if the data source and the application server are located on the same machine.  Kerberos constrained delegation is required to connect to a data source
located on a separate machine from the application server in a farm deployment.
3.Per-user Identity is only supported with Windows credentials, neither anonymous or forms login are supported.

  • Web service connection problem via web service data control (SOAP/REST)

    Hi
I developed a simple "hello word" web service that I deployed on Integrated WLS.
Web service works fine - I tested it from SoapUI.
I created another application to call "hello word" using  "web service data control (SOAP/REST)" in JDeveloper.
When I test it via "Oracle ADF Model Tester" application works as I'm expecting, but when I create JSPX page,
drag and drop webservice method as ADF parameter form and run it receive notification (screenshot):
"WSM-07620 : Agent cannot enforce policies due to either failure in retrieving polices or error in validations, detail= "WSM-02557 The documents required to configure the Oracle Web Services Manager runtime have not been retrieved from the Policy Manager application (wsm-pm), possibly because the application is not running or has not been deployed in the environment. The query "&(@appliesTo~="WS-CONNECTION()")(policysets:global/%)" is queued for later retrieval. "."
    What I'm doing wrong?
Why I'm able to access web service from any other application but not from jdeveloper?
    Regards

    Hi,
I am not sure which JDev you are using, but looks like you have some policies setup for WSDC using GPA (global policy attachment) and your policy manager(wsm-pm) is not running. Can you check if the wsm-pm application is properly deployed in your Integrated WLS. You can see this from the list of deployed apps in WLS console.

  • Dynamically set Analysis Services Connection Manager in a Fooreach loop [SSIS 2008]

I am storing connection strings for "Analysis Services Connection Manager" in a database table and on run time i am fetching them all, storing in an object and iterating through them inside a Foreach loop. Variable gets updated with a new connection

Is there any way we can set set Analysis Services Connection Manager Dynamically. I can done this with OLEDB connections and that works. But somehow it's not working for Analysis Services Connection manager. Can anyone please share his/her experience ?

  • How to get data from MySQL into Analysis Services Tabular Model

    Hi,
I have a problem with Analysis Services Tabular Model and MySQL ... I have to use several MySQL databases as a source of Tabuar Model ..
Is there any way to get connection working from Tabular Model to retrieve data from MySQL database. I have a situation that in MySQL server there is several databases with same schema, one for each customer. I have planned to join these customer databases
to one Tabular Model, create roles and users for each customer to query their data.
What do I have to do to get this working ?
    Pasi

    Hi ,
In Tabular model out of the box there is no direct connectors available for MySQL. Please see the list of supported Data Sources
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492165.aspx
But i think if you can establish a ODBC connectivity with data source to MYSQL , you can use the ODBC connection to retrieve the data from MySQL. Please try this and post the results here if it is possible or not.

  • Problem connecting to SQL Server Analysis Services

Could you please help me?. When i try to import data from analysis services in the administration tool i don't know the URL i must write. Could you describe the steps for the import process for this case?.

  • Can't connect to analysis services

    Hi,
After looking through the forum, I haven't seen the problem I encounter.
I am able to connect to the Database Engine, Integration services, Reporting Services but I can't connect to Analysis Services from SQL Server Management Studio although the service is running.
I am using SQL Server 2012.
I have the following error :
Internal error: An unexpected error occurred (file 'pfshcollation.cpp', line 323, function 'PFCollation::Init'). (Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services)

What can I do to connect?

    Hi Thush,
According to your description, you get the above error when connecting SSAS in SSMS. Right?
In Analysis Services, this error turns out to be a the data provider issue. I suggest you re-install the OLE DB Provider for SQL Server 2012.
On the Installation page, choose New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.
On the Installation Type page, choose Perform a new installation of SQL Server 2012.
On the Setup Role page, choose SQL Server Feature Installation.
On the Feature Selection page, click Client Tools Connectivity. This option installs
    Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Xmla.dll
Do not select any other features.
Click Next to finish the wizard, and then click Install to run Setup.

  • Creating MS SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services OLAP connection

    Hello,
I am trying to add an OLAP data source in BI Publisher (which is part of the OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 suite I have installed). However, the connection never seems to create - I don't get an error or a success message when I test the connection. However, if I cancel out of the create connection screen, I get this error: "Your request was denied as you have no permission to access the data.". This is odd since the credentials I am using have admin rights to the OLAP cube I am attempting to connect to.
    SETUP
    OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 x86_64 bit Linux
MS SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services running on Windows Server Enterprise (32 bit) 2007 SP2
Windows users are able to connect to the Windows/SQL server via Excel 2007 and its built-in Analysis Services "Other Data Sources" option. Authentication is done via Windows Active Directory LDAP
    QUESTIONS
    1) In the BI Publisher connection screen, can I enter my AD username/password, or because I am connecting from a Linux Server, do I need to authenticate via a different method?
    2) In the connection string, the initial catalog I am attempting to connect to has spaces in its name. Could this be an issue?
    3) Given the "no permission to access data" message I am getting, is it possible I am reaching the SQL Server but need to set up a local database, non-AD account to access the OLAP catalog?
    4) Are there any logs in the OBIEE server that I can check for more details?
    Thanks!

With the new productivity pack for Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 (Service Pack 2) you can access SSAS 2005 through the new OLAP tool called Voyager.  The productivity pack is due out sometime in the next few weeks.

  • MS SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) OLAP Connection - Dimension descriptions

    Hello,
We are trying to create some reports on BO 4.0 on top of BPC 10 MS information.
In order to overcome some issues related to standard connector between BO and BPC (XMLA Planning and consolidation 10 for Microsoft platform), we created a new connection based on discussion MS SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) OLAP Connection - Business Intelligence (BusinessObjects) - SCN Wiki
However we have a major issue with this approach. We cannot see on BO dimension member descriptions.
Is there anything that we missed?
    Could you help?
    Regards,
    Vitor Ramalho

    Bill,
So, what you need is a model like SQL Server failover cluster instances. (before sql server 2012)
In SQL Server 2012, AlwaysOn replaces SQL Server failover cluster, and it has been seperated to
AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances (SQL Server) and
    AlwaysOn Availability Groups (SQL Server).
Since your requirement is not in database level, I think the best option is to use AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances (SQL Server).
As part of the SQL Server AlwaysOn offering, AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances leverages Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) functionality to provide local high availability through redundancy at the server-instance level—a
failover cluster instance (FCI). An FCI is a single instance of SQL Server that is installed across Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) nodes and, possibly, across multiple subnets. On the network, an FCI appears to be an instance of SQL
Server running on a single computer, but the FCI provides failover from one WSFC node to another if the current node becomes unavailable.
It is similar to SQL Server failover cluster in SQL 2008 R2 and before.

  • Cannot connect to Analysis Services instance

    Hi,
I'm new to analysis services and have been following through the tutorials here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms170208(v=sql.100) for SQL Server 2008.
I've tried to deploy in visual studio 2008 and it gives an error saying it cannot connect. I've got sql server 2008 installed and I attached the 2008 Adventure Works database to my local default SQL instance. I can connect via management studio Ok. Also,
when creating the data source in visual studio I hit the "Test Connection" button which was also OK.
In management studio when I hit the connect drop down button in the Object Explorer, I get the option to connect to Analysis Services. When I do this it comes up with the server name "(local)" and uses Windows Authentication (I'm logged on to Windows as
Administrator). However, this fails with the following message "Cannot connect to (local). A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)"
I'm really stuck on this - has anybody got any ideas what might be going on?
    Cheers

As Todd mentioned, check whether the SSAS Instance is running. Also check whether you have a default instance or named instance. In case of named instance you have to provide also the instance name, when connecting in the form (machineName\InstanceName)
or for local instance (locahost\InstanceName) or (.\instance name).
To determine instance name, launch SQL Server Cofinguration manager ans check SQL Server Services. The instance name is in the Parentheses listed.
If you have installed the instance and forgot to add yourselves as an administrator of the instance, and have UAC enabled, you have to Lanuch the SSMS as an administrator to rise the priviledges. Then connect to the instance and add your username explicitly
    as administrator of the instance.
