Connection to a database hosted on line from a local desktop app
Hi there,
I have a desktop C# app with a sql server database. the application can be networked fine on a local network.
but now I need to host the database on the internet so clients in other campuses can also access the database with the desktop app installed on their machines.bug
my question is: is this possible or I have to develop an asp version of the software?
if possible what options do I have and what will it cost me because all this is running on a tight budget.
any response will be highly appreciated.
thank u so much for even reading through this.
That is quite possible to get server space from a service provider, however I have not yet requested for such space. Please google it and I am sure that you will find many options, cost variation and facilities.
Please check with experts

How do the application servers connect the new database after failing over from primary DB to standby DB?
We have setup a DR environment with a standalone Primary server and a standalone Physical Standby server on RHEL Linux 6.4. Now our application team would like to know:
When the primary DB server is crashed, the standy DB server will takeover the role of primary DB through the DataGuard fast failover. As the applications are connected by the primary DB IP before,currently the physical DB is used as a different IP or listener. If this is happened, they need to stop their application servers and re-configure their connection so the they coonect the new DB server, they cannot tolerate these workaround.
Whether does oracle have the better solution for this so that the application can automatically know the role's transition and change to the new IP without re-confige any connection and shutdown their application?
Oracle support provides us the answer as following:
==================================================================
Applications connected to a primary database can transparently failover to the new primary database upon an Oracle Data Guard role transition. Integration with Fast Application Notification (FAN) provides fast failover for integrated clients.
After a failover, the broker publishes Fast Application Notification (FAN) events. These FAN events can be used in the following ways:
Applications can use FAN without programmatic changes if they use one of these Oracle integrated database clients: Oracle Database JDBC, Oracle Database Oracle Call Interface (OCI), and Oracle Data Provider for .NET ( ODP.NET). These clients can be configured for Fast Connection Failover (FCF) to automatically connect to a new primary database after a failover.
JAVA applications can use FAN programmatically by using the JDBC FAN application programming interface to subscribe to FAN events and to execute event handling actions upon the receipt of an event.
FAN server-side callouts can be configured on the database tier.
FAN events are published using Oracle Notification Services (ONS) and Oracle Streams Advanced Queuing (AQ).
=======================================================================================
Who has the experience and the related documentation or other solutions? we don't have the concept of about FAN.
Thank very much in advance.Hi mesbeg,
Thanks alot.
For example, there is an application JBOSS server connecting the DB, we just added another datasource and put the standby IP into the configuration file except adding a service on DB side like this following:
<subsystem xmlns="urn:jboss:domain:datasources:1.0">
<datasources>
<datasource jta="false" jndi-name="java:/jdbc/idserverDatasource" pool-name="IDServerDataSource" enabled="true" use-java-context="true">
<connection-url>jdbc:oracle:thin:@<primay DB IP>:1521:testdb</connection-url>
<connection-url>jdbc:oracle:thin:@<standby DB IP>:1521:testdb</connection-url>
<driver>oracle</driver>
<pool>
<min-pool-size>2</min-pool-size>
<max-pool-size>10</max-pool-size>
<prefill>true</prefill>
</pool>
<security>
<user-name>TEST_USER</user-name>
<password>Password1</password>
</security>
<validation>
<valid-connection-checker class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleValidConnectionChecker"/>
<validate-on-match>false</validate-on-match>
<background-validation>false</background-validation>
<use-fast-fail>false</use-fast-fail>
<stale-connection-checker class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleStaleConnectionChecker"/>
<exception-sorter class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleExceptionSorter"/>
</validation>
</datasource>
<drivers>
<driver name="oracle" module="com.oracle.jdbc">
<xa-datasource-class>oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver</xa-datasource-class>
</driver>
</drivers>
</datasources>
</subsystem>
If the failover is occurred, the JBOSS will automatically be pointed to the standby DB. Additional actions are not needed. -
Can I upload a simple iPhone App that all it does is direct the User to a Filemaker Pro URL fmp://~filename.fmp?$VariableName=Value This launches Filemaker Go and directs the user to the Database Hosted online
Right now there is no app store for Filemaker Go. Filemaker Forgot about us.
So I want to create a simple native iPhone App that all it does
is launch
fmp://~/filename.fmp12?$VariableName=value
This URL will launch the Filemaker Go App
Filemaker Go is a app that the user will have to have
downloaded already on the device..
The Simple Native app will launch the Filemaker Go.
The fmp URL has the information where the Filemaker Pro database is hosted
and get the user where they need to be..
Help Me please
iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.3That would be software. And, you said "upload." That's "uploading software." Why do you question what you stated?
I don't know where you even want to upload this software. The only way it can be downloaded to a device is through the iTunes store. Do you even know what you want to do? -
I can't get my website to connect to mysql database hosted on my yahoo site
I used David Powers tutorials to build a CMS website in Dreamweaver using a testing site set up on my computer. I installed XAMPP and got it working on my computer. (I have a Windows 7 PC with Dreamweaver CS6)
Now I have installed the mysql database on my remote site following the instructions in the help section of Yahoo Small Business, where my website is hosted. I recreated the same database on the myPHPAdmin on my remote site. (If I understood what I found out when searching for a solution, Yahoo doesn't allow me to see the database from Dreamweaver. It seems that I have to make sure the connections are correct and then upload my site to the remote server. Then it should work once up)
Following the instructions I could find on Yahoo it seems that all I needed to do was make sure that the user name and password were the same as on my local computer and change the my Sql Server in the Server Connection in Dreamweaver CS6 to mysql instead of localhost, upload my website and it should connect. When I go to my webpage online I get "No database selected".
I know html, css, some php, and mysql.
I have been using Dreamweaver for approximatley 2 years and have created 2 successful websites for my husband, who is a photographer. He now wants to have a blog type news website and since I couldn't get Wordpress to do what he wanted to do I decided to create a CMS website. It works great on my computer, but now I need it to work on my remote site.
I know it's probably something really stupid that I have overlooked and I would really appreciate any help I could get.
I'm more than happy to learn whatever I need to learn to get this done. I have been searching all kinds of forums and I can find a lot of posts about this or a similar problem, but no solutions.
Please let me know if I need to provide more information.I'm sorry, the way I wrote that was confusing. In mysql it suggested you create a new user that had limited access to access each database you created, rather than use the root user which had all permissions. So in both the mysql on my computer and the mysql on my website I created a user with the same username and password, so that when my website was on my remote server the username and password were the same as when I was testing it on my local computer.

Just looking at that part of your response, I don't get what they are asking you. Typically the remote host will require that you update the username/password and possibly SQL server. When you are in most shared environments, which is what I presume you are in, you typically have a username that is prefix_username. So you should be updating your script to match that information, not the other way around. Also with the "mysql instead of localhost" comment, you would only change the script from localhost to another server (ip address) if the mySQL server is not on your web server. If you host tells you this is true thent he value should be an IP address instead of localhost. Is that the case?
For the second part of your question in the "Why can't I access my database" help on Yahoo it says "If your PHP or Perl configuration files require a host name, you may have a problem with your host name. Make sure that you are using the host name mysql, not the default host name localhost." I assumed that meant that in the setup menu when establishing a server connection I needed to replace "localhost" as the mysql Server with "mysql" and then upload my website. This didn't work. Since the mysql server I am trying to access can be accessed using phpmyadmin at www.mywebsite.com/phpmyadmin this seemed to make sense to me. I think I might have managed to access the mysql server, but I'm not choosing the database I want correctly. -
Messages sent from my Messages desktop app do not appear on my smartphone
Messages+ desktop app is great for mirroring messages composed on my correspondents' smartphones and on my smartphone, and also for composing and sending messages to others' smartphones. But the messages I send using the Messages+ desktop app apparently are not sent to my own smartphone for display in the native-Android Messages app. They don't show up. (I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 16GB, Kit-Kat 4.4.2.)
I understand that installing Verizon Messages would fix this, but that would require me substituting Verizon Messages for my native-Android Messages app, which I do not want to do.
Is Messages+ capable of mirroring my desktop-sent messages to my own smartphone? If so, how do I enable it to do so? Thank you.So that is why I see this app on both of my phones and was wondering really what it's purpose was.! ) I don't use them much as I have the original messaging app that's been part of the phones for years but I guess I could use this newfangled squirt a bit more. now that I learned this.. learning new stuff every Day,
Thank ya SuzyQ for mentioning it's uses.. -

Unable to connect to MySQL Database using MX
I am unable to connect to MySQL database hosted on a remote
server. I get the following error message:
"HTTP Error Code 404 File Not Found. Here are some possible
reason for the problem:
1) There is no testing server running on the server machine.
2) The testing server specified for this site does not map to
the
http://72.9.255.2/~keyitems/_mmServerScripts/MMHTTPDB.php
URL. Verify that the URL Prefix maps to the root of the site."
I have specified a testing server. My url is "
http://72.9.255.2/~keyitems/........."
For the URL prefix to the site's root folder, I listed the
following:
1.
http://72.9.255.2/~keyitems/
this did not work. I got the above error message.
2.
http://72.9.255.2/ this did not work
also. I got the above error message.
Any input would be great as I do not know where to start !!!
Thank youHi Ravi
Glad to hear you solved this. It is very gratifying when one solves it alone, don't you think?
Best wishes

Can i connect to the database through the internet
hi all
i installed a database oracle 8i enterprise edition on a pc that exists in a town far from me . i wonder can i connect to this database through the internet from my house
please i need a answer
thanks in advanceYou can connect from an Oracle client to any Oracle database in the world that meets certain requirements.
First you need an open network connection between the two points so either no firewall exists between the two stations or the firewall(s) have been configured to allow Oranet traffic. This means both databases must have access to the Internet and certain ports are open.
Second you will need the IP address and port for the remote listener, which in turn must be up and running on the target server.
Then you must have the Service Name or SID and a valid username/password combination for the target database. Plus the username must have create session privilege.
That should be about it.

Connecting to Another Database
Hi,
Can I connect to another database such as Pointbase from JDeveloper?
If yes, how?
Thanks,
Rajeev.Rajeev,
In Jdeveloper you have a Connection Navigator that you use to configure named connections. All you need to do is to define the JDBC string in there.

Hi,
Can I connect to other databases such as Pointbase from Jdeveloper? If yes, how?
ThanksYes you can. You need the JDBC driver for the specific database and then follow the online help of JDeveloper.
look for "Registering a New Third-Party JDBC Driver" when you search for JDBC. -

Oracle command line to connect to a database directly from a client machine
Hi,
I need to connect from a Client machine to a database present on the Database server.
Client: Windows 7 32 bit/ 64 bit
Server where DB is installed: Windows 2008, Oracle 11.xg
I need a command line option that will connect to a database say 'Test' from the command line. I want to put that command in a batch file / exe and call it from there.
I have tools like SQL Developer and dbForge but was unable to do it. Could I have some help on this.
I am a fresher with Oracle and I would appreciate detailed steps. Thanks very much in advance.
VincentVincent,
There is a few steps you want to perform, first of all tell me where is your client database server and where you want command line to use Oracle SQL command line.

ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message: ORA-02063: preceding line from OWB_75
Scenario:
I am having difficulty getting ODBC connection between Oracle OWB app with an 11gR2 DB (running on a VirtualBox Linux) and SQL Server 2008 running directly on the host. (Windows 8)
I am trying to take a SQL Server 2008 feed into Oracle Ware house Builder, and think(!) I have read everything and configured it in accordance (but I presume not given 3 days of failed attempts to fix it). I have also read several blogs, hence there might be a few more settings in the configuration files than the formal documentation says, but these have come from blogs that have “Solved” problems for other similar situations.
The environments:
HOST:
Name: RESOLVEIT-PC
IP: 192.168.1.80
Windows 8 (64bit) , with system DSN ODBC connection ACME_POS created with 32 bit ODBC set up (This setting still shows up fine in the 64 bit ODBC).
GUEST VM:
Name: OraDBSvr.com
GUES fixed IP Address: 192.1.200

However, I can’t get a response through Oracle OWB , and I get:
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message: ORA-02063: preceding line from OWB_75
In the hs log file I get:

I am really stuck now and going round in circles and can’t see the wood for trees! Can anyone please help?!!
Many Thanks.
Rafe.Let us rewrite your ODBC DSN a little bit... Your current odbc.ini looks like:
[ACME_POS]
Driver = FreeTDS
Description = ODBC Connection via FreeTDS
Trace = 1
Servername = 192.168.1.80
Database = dbo
Let us change it a little bit so that we only need one config file - no odbcinst.ini nor freetds.conf file anymore:
[ACME_POS]
Driver =/usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
Server = 192.168.1.80
Database
= dbo #### I have some doubts that you have a SQL Server database called dbo - one database that always exists is master - so as a test use master here or get the real database name of the SQL Server database you want to connect
Port = 60801 ## make sure it really is the correct port - best would be to check on the SQL server and then try telnet <ip> <port> if you can connect to the SQL server
TDS_Version = 8.0
QuotedId=YES
Especially the last 2 parameters are mandatory. TDS_Version specifies the TDS Version you have to use to connect to the SQL Server and QuotedID is required for DG4ODBC as it surrounds objevt names by double quotes.
What happens now when you try to connect with for example isql - the ODBC test utility shipped with the ODBC Driver manager?
In addition, could you please do me another favour and check the word size of DG4ODBC and the ODBC Driver Manager as well as the ODBC Driver - just execute:
file /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/dg4odbc
file /usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
file < the patch to your libodbc.so library>/libodbc.so
and post the output.
