Connection using type 4 driver

Hi,
We are using type 4 driver to connect to Oracle.
I am getting an exception as
"com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NameNotFoundException: Object not found in lookup of CWD".
Can anyone tell me the reason and how to solve it?

This s my code:-
try
        InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
     DataSource ds = (DataSource)ic.lookup("jdbc/CWD");
     con=ds.getConnection();
     st = con.prepareStatement("select desig from Users where username like cusername and cpassword like password");
        rs = st.executeQuery();
        String desig=null;
        while(rs.next())
             desig=rs.getString("desig");
             if(desig.equals("admin"))
                    wdThis.wdFirePlugToadminview();
   else if(desig.equals("customer"))
                        wdThis.wdFirePlugTouserview();
             else
                    wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess("Invalid Username/Password");
   catch(Exception e)
   {wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportException(e.toString(),true);}
   finally
        try
             rs.close();
             st.close();
             con.close();
        catch(Exception e)

    pls help to solve the problem

    Class.forName("SOME_DRIVER_CLASS");Is tricky to use because it will compile not needing to reference the vendors jar file.
    You have to remember to deploy it though where ever you plan to run this program.
    If you are running from command line
    java -cp PATH_TO_JAR Type4ConnectTest

    The code itself is fine; the problem is with one of:
    1) the connection URL
    2) intermediate networking
    3) the database itself
    1) your connection URL is "jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:orcl"
    - is Oracle really running on the default port, 1521
    - is the installation SID really "orcl"
    2) lots of possibilities, but only a couple are likely
    - is TCP/IP configured and running on your host
    - is there a persoanl firewall rpduct running? perhaps it's blocking the connection
    3) Is Oracle running?
    Is the listener running?

  • Can't connect using OCI JDBC driver in OC4J 10.1.3.3 standalone

    Hi all,
    I've recently upgraded my JDev from 10.1.3.2 to 10.1.3.3 and now I'm unable to establish any OCI connections with my local Oracle 10.1.0.4 database. Not even through a connection pool. The strangest thing is that when I test an OCI connection running from JDeveloper it works fine and the JDBC jars and the oci client are exactly the same.
    The error is always the same when I execute a test on a connection pool using the OCI driver:
    WARNING J2EE DS-00001 Exception occurred testing connection. Exception: java.sql.SQLException: Closed Connection.
    If I just change the driver to the THIN one, the same test works. If I take the same URL from the OCI test and use it in a test class and run it inside JDeveloper, it works also.
    I've even downloaded the instant client 10.1.0.5 (which happens to be exactly the same version of the JDBC driver that comes with JDev 10.1.3.3) and tried to use it with no success.
    THIN connections are working just fine. The problem happens only when I try to connect via OCI and this problem was not happening in version 10.1.3.2.
    Any help?

    I found the cause of this problem. It turns out that you must be very careful with the environment variable ORACLE_HOME. On Windows, normally, we don't even set this variable because most applications are able to get it from the system's registry.
    Well, it happened that I've edited the script start_oc4j.bat and, for organization reasons, I set the ORACLE_HOME variable with my JDeveloper's home directory (which is the same as my OC4J standalone's). By doing that, I kind of confused the OCI client. Once I removed the "set ORACLE_HOME=C:\JDev" line from the script, everything worked just fine again.
    So, always remember: avoid setting environment variable ORACLE_HOME when using Windows and, if you must set it, be sure to do it right.
    Regards,
    Eduardo.

  • Infinite wait for connection using JDBC thin driver.

    Hi,
    I am using an OracleDataSource and an OracleConnectionCacheManager to manage my connection pool from my stand alone Java application. I am using ojdbc14.jar for my Oracle drivers. The database is Oracle 10g RAC. Java version is 1.5. I am using thin client.
    The problem I have experienced is that upon calling the getConnection() method on the OracleDataSource object, my application waits infinitely for a connection. As my application is not checking how long it takes to retrieve a connection, the application effectively hangs.
    Has anyone else witnessed this behaviour?? I have observed this behaviour in two seperate stand alone Java applications that are both talking to Oracle RAC databases.
    When I create the OracleDataSource, I am considering calling the setLoginTimeout() method to specify a timeout when trying to connect to the database. Does anyone know if this will throw an SQLException if the infinite wait occurs again??
    Thanks, Kenny.

    OK, I have the JVM stack trace at last!!! Here it is. This actually uses the following code every single time a database connection is required.

  • Problem using type 4 driver for SQL Server 2000

    Hi..
    I'm getting the following error message when i attempt to connect to SQL Server 2000:
    "Cannot open user default database. Using master database instead"
    I am passing the proper connection url and the user name and the password.However,my application does not connect to the SQL Server.I have tried using JTurbo and Weblogic drivers.
    All tables in this database have been imported using DTS and hence have "dbo" as their owner.I do not have administrator privileges on the db server.
    Is there a workaround to this problem by changing some settings for ownership of the db objects?
    I have already tried using :
    EXEC sp_changedbowner <username>
    for databases where I am not a user and it still doesn't work for these as well.
    Thanks,
    Jay.

    It might be in your DSN. Give that a check, it could be that the DSN has a default db selected and also a userID/Pwd that's incorrect for that db. Just thinking out loud.

  • Connecting JDBC-ORACEL database using type 3 thin driver.

    I'm new in Java. Could someone please send me the source code how to connect to remote oracle database with jdbc using Type 3 driver. I'm sure millions of people have already done this. I will appreciate if anyone could help me.

    Have you written any Java or done JDBC before? I don't mean to insult you if you have, but look in any JDBC book or the Java Tutorial and you'll see how to connect to a database:
    Class.forName("fullyResolvedJdbcDriverClassName");
    Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection("databaseURL");
    Gotta put the JDBC driver class in your CLASSPATH somewhere.
    Gotta follow the directions for your database URL to the letter.
    But if you do all that, it should work.
    Oracle and Type 3 won't change any of this. Personally, I connect to Oracle using the Type 4 thin driver. Why are you using Type 3?
    Did you look at the JDBC tutorial on-line? Sun has great materials there. Have you checked any of that out? - MOD

  • Error connecting using OCI8

    I am getting an error when attempting to connect to a Oracle 9i r2 database using OCI8. When I connect using the thin driver all works fine. Are different drivers or installation procedures needed to use OCI8? I am working with BLOB's and wanted to use OCI because I understand it is more efficient than the thin driver for this data type.
    The two url's which are used are listed below:
    dbUrl1 "jdbc:oracle:oci8:@svr:1521:orcl"
    Fails with the following error: 500 Internal Server Error : java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: oracle.jdbc.oci8.OCIEnv.envCharSetId
    dbUrl2 "jdbc:oracle:thin:@svr:1521:orcl"
    Works fine.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    I solved the problem too.Just replace classes12.zip &
    classes12.jar from orahome/jdbc/lib to
    jdevhome/jdbc/lib.
    Oracle version 9i release 2
    JDeveloper 9i release 2there some details on metalink saying you cannot connect to 9.2 with 9.2 client in path. they say you must install 9.0 client and put it in your path and point your project at those libraries.
    I have tried everything and can't get anything to work.
    For awhile I had it so that I could create a connection in jdeveloper, but if my application tried to create its own connection, and not use the predefined one from jdeveloper, I ran into the same error again, even though the same jdbc url connection tested successfully in jdeveloper.
    I have been downloading drivers, modifying jdev.conf, and such for a couple days now, all to try and get an oci connection to work.
    i am using jdev r3 and 9i r2 now, gave up on r2, was hoping it would work in r3.

    Hi Lars-Inge
    I too am working through this same issue. I wasn't using the OracleDataSource object for connecting but rather the DriverManager's getConnection method as seen here:
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(dbUrl, dbUser, dbPass);
    My dbUrl is: String dbUrl = "jdbc:oracle:oci9:@OraSid";
    Using this approach, I get an "invalid URL" SQL Exception. So I tried the approach from your post using an ods object. Here too, I'm getting a SQL exception "java.sql.SQLException: Invalid Oracle URL specified: OracleDataSource.makeURL". Here is what my connection code looks like:
    OracleDataSource ods = new OracleDataSource();
    ods.setUser("user");
    ods.setPassword("password");
    ods.setDriverType("oci9");
    ods.setDatabaseName("OraSid");
    ods.setPortNumber(1521);
    ods.getConnection();
    Am I missing something that's causing the SQL Exception?
    Thanks,
    Rajesh Vasisht

  • Using an embedded driver instead of client, and refreshing JList

    I am finishing up a simple database interface program that I need to do in order to graduate. There are a couple issues I need to address.
    1. This program is meant to be on one computer with one connection to a database. Currently, when I build the program and run the .jar file, it will not work unless I have manually started the server in Netbeans. Once the server is on, it works like a champ. But since I have to send this to my professor it must work without him doing any additional setup. For this I figured I could use the embeddedDriver, but unfortantely I cant get that to work.
    In netbeans I can right click on the main database icon and select "New Connection" and i have the option of choosing the embedded driver yet when i put the database name in and the user and password it gives me the
    error: "Unable to add connection. Cannot establish a connection to jdbc:derby:MaxxTrax using org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver (Database 'MaxxTrax' not found).
    Why is it that I can use the client driver without a problem yet not the embedded one? And if I cant use the embedded one, how can I set up the client driver so it will automatically start the server (does the end user need to have the server installed or will the clean and build do that)?
    2. Using the netbeans gui builder, i created a jList that I bound to my database's name query. I then have multiple textFields that i bound to whatever jList selection there is and tell it to update with the specified data. My problem is, that I cannot get the jList to "refresh". Right now when I add somebody to the database it visually writes over another persons record, but doesn't actually delete record. So if i could just figure out how to make it look at the database again I could do it automatically after entering in a new record. I've tried nameList.validate(), updateUI() and even tried to copy the ide generated code that actually binds the data but no go.
    Once I get these two little things taken care of I am done!! Please help, its greatly appreciated.

    I'm not getting much help out there.....anyone??
    I need to make the database seem invisible to the end user application.
    When I try to use an embedded driver I keep getting errors. In netbeans, I can see the "Java DB(Embedded)" link under drivers, and when I hit connect using.. I input all the correct data and it gives me the following error:
    Error: Unable to add connection. Cannot establish a connection to jdbc:derby:MaxxTrax using org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver (Database 'MaxxTrax' not found).
    Under the Database setting the pointer for the java db installation and database location are correct. Why can't I connect using the embedded driver, cause using that would make my life so much easier for a single application.

  • How to create database connection using DB2Driver in JDeveloper 10.1.2.1.0?

    I am trying to create a JDeveloper/Data Connection using com.oracle.ias.jdbc.db2.DB2Driver. The driver is registered from a User Libraries: DataDirect JDBC. I have the following class path for the library:
    E:\DataDirect\3.4\lib\YMdb2.jar;E:\DataDirect\3.4\lib\YMbase.jar;E:\DataDirect\3.4\lib\YMutil.jar
    I have no trouble configuring the connection but when I test it and I got ‘No suitable driver Vendor code 0’. What’s wrong? I have successfully created several database connections using Oracle thin driver. This is first time I am using a third party driver. Has any one successfully create a database connection using the com.oracle.ias.jdbc.db2.DB2Driver?

    Hi
    Since the error points to the unavailability of the driver class,can you double check your library claspath entries again.
    I just tried a DB2 connection using the following properties and the connection went through fine:
    Driver class name: com.oracle.ias.jdbc.db2.DB2Driver
    URL: jdbc:merant:db2://<host_name>:50000;DatabaseName=SAMPLE
    Thanks

  • Connection using Multi-Tier Openlink ODBC

    We are trying to connect to an Avaya database (their CMS system) and it uses a multi-tier ODBC driver by Openlink. We are unable to use any groupby functions in Hyperion's SQL interface to retrieve data from the database. It doesn't have stored procedures or views so we can't create those and pull data into Hyperion from there. How can we get connectivity using this ODBC driver and use groupby SQL statements? Any help is much appreciated.

    Feel free to consider this issues closed.
    We figured it out.
    We used the combination of a filter event trapping off a user action, coupled with PL/SQL code to extract values from the filtered event and inserted them into the appropriate table{s}.

  • Problem with type 4 driver using oracle 10g

    HI,
    I am unable to establish a type 4 connection with oracle 10g.
    Specs:
    Driver used: OracleDriver that comes with the ojdbc14.jar along with oracle 10g
    JDK used: Tried using both j2sdk1.4.2 and using JDK 5.0
    JRE: Again, JRE that was shipped with j2sdk 1.4.2 and JRE 5.0
    OS: Windows XP sp2
    I am able to compile the following piece of code, so there is no classpath problem, etc.
    When I try to run the program, the exception thrown is "No Suitable Driver"
    There is no problem with the TNSListener, etc...even if all Oracle related services in 'services.msc' are Started/Stopped, the error remains.
    I am, however, able to establish the connection using type1 driver.
    Please Help!
