Connectivity weirdness - unrecoverable loss in connection

Hey everyone. I'm having a very weird problem occuring randomly (several times) thoughout the day.
I have a local network with my G5, PB and PC (ugh) connected to my DLink DI-624 Router. Everythings been working great for years.... (though I remember having this problem a while back)
Every once and a while my connection goes down on my G5, but the other machines work fine. (It's not the router...restarting it doesn't help)
Checking my G5 when the connection is down, I see that my IP which was local and statically set to an IP on my DHCP router changes from the local IP to a random external (169.xxx.xxx.xxx) different one that is no even my external IP.
Also, there is an error in my console.log that says:
repeated transitions for interface en0
and my system.log says a lot more:
Jun 22 18:01:10 G5-Machine kernel[0]: UniNEnet::monitorLinkStatus - Link is down.

The only thing that brings the connection back up (that I have found) is restarting the machine. On restart, everything is back to normal.
Does anyone know of anything I can do to get this to stop happening and/or a way to get the connection back when it does without restarting?
ANY help would be appreciated
Powermac G5 2.5DP   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

This problem is still happening. I've tried changing cables, changing router ports, re-installing the router firmware. etc. Its still occurring. Its not the router b/c all my other 6 devices don't lose their connections.
i've noticed that sometimes it switches to that weird 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address. I lose connection. go to my network prefs, and it reconnects. But most times, it goes to that weird ip and never goes back. I can;t get the connection back or get to the router.
Rebooting the machine is the only thing that fixes it. temporarily.
Here is a look at the latest system.log activity. You can see that there's some weird activity during 12:19 and 1:13 when it finally loses connection. Any one have ANY ideas here?

Ipad2 losses cell connection now that iOS 8 was installed.  Ios 8.0.2 did NOT correct the issue. Come on and fix this issue!

    Hey everyone-
Im in the same boat, started a thread . My hands free system worked fine with iOS 8 out of the box new iphone 6. Did the update this morning and i can stream music perfectly fine however i cannot make or receive calls through hands free system.
I have not tried resetting the settings like most people indicate is working. I feel like I shouldn't have to reset anything, even less mess with settings with an update coming from apple. it should "Just Work"
Some people who reset said it works for a few hours, other say it don't work, and I don't know what I should do.
    Car: Hyundai Sonata 2014
NOTE: I was able to replicate the issue in my wifes Hyunday Elentra 2013.
This is how I know its not a defect with the BT in my car.

  • Sensing a loss of connection without explicitly sending a message

First I need to know if I am even on the right forum since I don't have a clue whether the Sun Java System Message Queue and the Sun ONE Message Queue, v3.0.1 are the same animal. Since there was no forum for the Sun ONE Message Queue I'm assuming they are one and the same. If not let me know.
We are attempting to sense a loss of connection to the JMQ broker by attempting to create a session against an already established Connection object. The theory is that createSession will fail if the connection is down but it doesn't seem to be working. We don't want to have to explicitly send a message on the down connection to trigger an exception but if we absolutely have to we will. We are periodically checking the status of many connections and would prefer to not spend too much time at it. I also considered using Connection.start() to see if perhaps "re-starting" an established connection would generate an exception if the connection is down. If anyone knows how the pros at SUN do this, I would appreciate the knowledge very much.

Hi, did you get a proper answer to your question? We're also trying to detect loss of connection on the client side: shall we have to use the session creation or is there a way to sense the loss of the connection as soon as it happens? We've tried setting an exception listener on the connection, but that didn't help.
    Thanks.

  • WLC 5508 intermittent loss of connectivity

    Hi.
I have a WLC 5508 connecting directly to a distribution switch (3850) via a layer 2 etherchannel trunk fibre link with LAG enabled on the WLC.
Whenever there is a loss of power to the server room where both devices are hosted & power later gets restored, the distribution switch & WLC lose Layer 2 & 3 connectivity. Connectivity only gets restored when the WLC is power cycled or the fibre cables connecting to its SFP ports are removed & plugged back in. When this is done connectivity is restored between them, APs associate etc. Once there is a loss of power to the room for whatsoever reason again, the loss of connectivity issue re-occurs.
Disabled the etherchannel at some point, using only a single fibre trunk link between them, but the issue persists.
Also check for interface errors, CRCs, etc on both ends but there are none.
Can anyone please advice me on what the issue is & what can be done to permanently resolve this?
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Ope.

    Software version is 7.4.100.0
    int gig1/0/5
      switchport mode trunk
      switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
      channel-group 1 mode on
    int gig1/0/6
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    channel-group 1 mode on
Port setting on the switch is set to auto-negotiate. Port setting on the controller is "auto". The link has been negotiated (& always negotiates) to 1000Mbps full duplex on both ends.
Presently in transit with no way of connecting to the device, but I checked the duplex & speed settings on both devices which was appropriately negotiated. Also checked for interface error counters on the switch, there was none. Checked the WLC logs too, there were no logs on issues with the interfaces or auto-negotiation.

  • InDesign CC keeps crashing after reporting loss of connection

    Hi Everyone,
I am working over a local network and when i create an indesign file (or work on an existing one), InDesign reports a loss of connection (or an other process changing the file) and crashes. This happens after a very short time, between 1-5 minutes after opening a file.
It makes me unable to finish any job! Please do not tell me to work local, because thats not the solution for me.
The internet connection is stable and has no delay. I work in Windows 7, InDesign CC.
I reset the preferences already, changed the location for automatic saves... nothing
    Thanks,
    Nora

    Hi Yeonala,
As mentioned by Peter correctly, your LAN connection maybe one of the reasons for this behavior.
Beacuse when InDesign try to Edit Or Save remote document in disconnected state, it shutdowns as protective measure.
However, can you please provide more detail about "changed the location of automatic saves" ?
    Thanks

  • Loss of connection

Today i lost connection to the internet, the broadband light was flashing orange. I reset the Modem and the Hub and the Hub broadband light returned to blue. But my desktop pc had a big red cross in the bottom right hand corner over the network icon. I had disconnected the ethernet cables in the back of the hub, but they were all connected properly. When i looked at the back of my pc the end on the connection end did seem a little dodgy. So i recrimped a new end on and that did appear to sort it. But on the desktop i cannot open hardly any web pages they are so slow, i can't do any speed tests as i get timed out out.
I have hooked up my laptop using the same ethernet cable and everything is perfect, speeds test are all as they should be.
It seems the issue lies with my desktop pc, but everything was working perfectly ok before the loss of connection, i have tried severeal browsers and none of them seem to want to respond very well at all.
Has anybody got any suggestions or solutions please???

    Hi Damian99,
Thanks for posting. It sounds like the problem could be with your PC as it’s connecting via the laptop. Has anything changed since the connection dropped? Have you checked the Ethernet socket as opposed to the cable? Let us know how you get on.
    Cheers

  • Frequent loss of connection with HH5

I upgraded to infinity and got a HH5 a few weeks ago. Initially it was great, stable and down load up to 26 Mbps. Now, I lose the connection several times each day and this evening it dropped the connection about 4 times in an hour. The speed now is down to 9 Mbps. Any ideas on what is wrong or what I can do?

    Thank you for your comments.
Speed is not the problem, now up to 18000 in any case. It is loss of connection. I don't understand computers so not sure what information you requested. Here is most recent event log details if that would help.

  • Loss of connection issues ongoing

    Hi all
I'd like to start by saying I've had this issue for many months now and I guess this is my last try at getting a fix.
I'm using Verizon dsl connected through a wired westell 6100g modem.
    I'm using Windows 7 home
Here is my problem. At random times when I'm browsing the internet my browser(firefox) will stop working,If I'm able to hit refresh I get the "loss of connection webpage" My modem does not show any signs of disconnection (no red lights no blinking) The internet icon on the windows taskbar says I am connected to the internet and if i click to troubleshoot the connection it finds no errors. But I cannot access the internet from any browser I have..
I had this very same issue when I was using Vista And after wasting money on 3 new modems Verizon told me that installing Windows 7 would fix my problem.Which wasn't true.
The only way for me to get back on line is to restart my computer, not my modem.
I've had many tests on my line.I've had dell go into my computer remotely to try to see if it's a internal issue Nobody can find anything wrong..At least I hope they are telling the truth.
I disabled ip6,firewall,I tried 3 different modem,cat5 cables,filters..I checked to make sure my ip addy match, flushed the dns..I
I've tried every suggestion that i've been given and nothing works,The last thing I was told was Westell 6001g are NOT vista and windows 7 compatable...I have no idea if thats correct.I've wasted far too much time and money the past months on this issue.I'm just about ready to face the fact that I'm going to be restarting my pc half the time I'm using it.
Does anyone have any idea or have the same issue? And if it is the modem..Can anyone suggest a wired one that would work?
Oh btw when this does happen I CAN use cmd and ping a website..with no packet loss

My ip from the website matches the one shown on the modem page but not the one shown in the cmd.
i noticed i have 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 as a physical address not sure if that is a problem or not.I don't see where it says what firmware i have tho.

    Hey Linders1987,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are experiencing issues with Wi-Fi on your iPhone 5. The following resource may provide a solution:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS1398
Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including
    - previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    - recently used Bluetooth accessories
    - VPN and APN settings
    Thanks,

  • Intermittent loss of connection

For about a week now I have been suffering from a intermittent loss of connection to the internet the internet will be fine until it randomly decides to drop out. Usually I'll be surfing the website and go to navigate to another webpage when it times out and tells me it couldn't find the website in question. My games seems to be affected as well though it is more common for me to observe this in my browser the problem occurs in Firefox and I loaded Chrome as well one day and the problem appears there as well. I need some line quality tests with dslreports.com's line quality test and I did four of them they all reported intermittent packet loss the odd thing I noticed is in all four tests I did the same node suffered a varying amount of packet loss (ae-1-60.edge1.SanJose3.Level3.net) I have been trying to get some info on this server but I can't seem to find any info on it whatsoever I have included all four tests in the zip archive attached to this post.
I also did a fifth test which I included as well I did this test after resetting the router and did another test but it was much of the same. Please tell me how to troubleshoot this problem I am losing my mind and patience.

I've been having a simliar issue as well for about a month now where my internet drops out every now and then for several seconds and then comes back up. This only started happening after Hurricane Sandy in Staten Island, NY when my ONT had to be replaced after being flooded. Since then, I have already had my ONT replaced twice and was given a new REV I router and told to not send back my old REV D router which never had any problems before. I have even tried putting back the REV D router and I still kept losing internet every now and then. After multiple chats with Verizon, they seem to have pinpointed the problem to be a physical issue in my house. So, I tried connecting the REV I router directly to the ONT, via coax, and I still noticed the internet dropping. Looking at the router logs, I noticed the following entries every now and then (usually multiple times a day):

I setup syslog on the router which feeds it to the WallWatcher application and this is all the details I get duing the flap. I'm really stumped by this and can't figure out what the problem is. Could it be a bad PON card? I noticed that the logs show only the WAN Coax going down without the LAN Coax which leads me to believe in a faulty connection between the router and the ONT. I've already tried connecting both routers directly to the ONT to no avail. The only changes that I can think of since Sandy are the electrical outlets that were replaced. Could they be causing some kind of interference? I've tried running the coax with and without the ground block, but that didn't help either. The only thing that was not replaced since the first post-Sandy installation is the ONT battery system, only the battery itself was replaced once. Could that be it? Just to be clear, I have always been connected via coax and I have tried testing with different cables.

  • Methods to detect loss of connection with CRIO

I am developing an application with CRIO. The CRIO has an application in real time in which you are sharing a variable temperature. In my host PC I have an application that will receive this temperature and stored in a database. I need to detect the beginning of my program if present the CRIO and prompting a loss of connection and the system can not initialize.

This is the cRIO code.  All it does is continuously update a variable that can be read by the HMI.  It is important that this loop runs faster than the HMI loop to prevent false alarms.
The HMI code may look something like this.  It is reading the variable being written to by the cRIO.  If it does not change, the communication code is not running.  You would probably want to do something if Comm's Lost goes true other than turn on an indicator.
There are many ways to do this and you may receive some better ideas from the forum.

  • Sudden loss of connection all together

I'll start off by saying hello to everyone.
We've had infinity installed for some time now. I'm talking many months, definitely more than 18. This is the first time we have encountered a sudden loss of internet connection. We have already called BT and followed all their steps but what the people at the call centre don't understand is we want to know WHY! Not the possibilities, a solid reason. I was always able to give this to our business customers when I worked first line support. We recently had a storm which I think is contributing, since going over everything many times and no joy I have wondered about the phone line. Since the loss of connection it has always got massive static interference on the line. The service updates say all is good, but I can't help but think that page is just nonsense and that it is at fault and that BT are too up themselves to admit the fault is their end.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Thank you very much in advance.

  • WRT120N - repeated loss of connection requiring reboot

I have an old WRT54GL that has been really good over the years but it was becoming problematic and I decided it was time to get an N router.  After a visit to the local PC shop I picked up the WRT120N and brought it home then proceeded to set it up.  I got that done and I was using it set to G only as I have an older laptop that can't use N and the router only comes with 1x USB adapter.
After a few days I noticed the internet side of the connection would randomly drop out but I could still access the router wirelessly.  Rebooting the router resolved it but it keeps happening regardless of if I use G or N.  The confusing thing in this is that it works fine for a while and one laptop works all the time.  If it wasn't for the fact that a reboot solves the problem temporarily I would consider the laptop's wireless chip at fault so it points to something with the router.
I've updated the firmware to the latest available but it still happens.  Rebooting whenever it happens isn't a solution and unless Cisco have some solution I'm going to end up returning it.

I've given it a fair shot I think.  After you posted I reset it to factory default then reconfigured it as well as removing the USB adapter from the equation.  After almost two weeks the router has effectively dropped the connection twice a week, or three times in the past week.  Each time the same thing will happen and the only solution is to reboot the router.  The router is listed on available wireless connections, I can try to connect to it but it will fail for any device.  Wired connections aren't affected but that isn't very helpful.
Wired connections seem to suffer a stuttering performance too where there's no throughput whatsoever for a few minutes but otherwise it works.  Wireless performance is acceptable but these repeated instances of the connection dropping out mean that I'm resigned to taking it back for a refund.

  • LTE 3G being weird says no internet connection

I have an iPhone 5 32GB and it says that is is running LTE or 3G and then my apps say no internet connection, cannot connect to the internet, app must have an internet connection. I try and connect to Wifi and it is a little bit better but it still happens... Any Suggestions? Went to apple and they replaced it and the new one is still doing the same thing?

same issue from modesto ca. We currently cant even connect to the internet on our devices over 3g or lte
