Content Aware tool causing corrupt images

As the title states, I went to use my content aware tool to expand a rather simple background texture and it went completely haywire!
This is what it gave me! I tried to undo it, thinking it had grabbed from all the layers, but going back in the history didn't fix it. So I closed the file (I didn't save it like this) and reopened it only to see the same thing! This was a project for a client so I was more than a little angry that some how the tool had corrupted my entire file and then saved it without me knowing! So I took this screenshot, only to try and open up a New Document and have it too look corrupted. At this point, I closed photoshop completely, making sure any services that started up with it was shut down as well and restarted it and opened my TIF file to find it perfectly fine.
Again I tried to use the Content Aware tool (with all my layers shut off, minus the one I needed extended) to only have it do the same thing to all the layers again!
Needless to say I closed photoshop, made sure my video drivers were up to date and reopened, pasted my screenshot and came here. So the obvious thing is, is that my Content Aware tool is causing a problem, but what in the world is going on? How do I fix this?

Yes; it will always depend on the individual image.
Don't expect miracles.  The feature is OK but—despite all the hype—is not ground-breaking, in my opinion. It has been available for quite some time in Alien Skin's Image Doctor set of plug-ins and in the GIMP (this latter one free) in ways I find a bit better.

  • Content aware tool

When I use the "content aware tool and move an object, it does move the object but then it disappers

You wouldn't normally move anyting when using Content Aware.  That sounds more like the Patch tool.  But what I suspect you are doing is using the Healing Brush tool.  With this tool you sample source pixels with the Alt (Opt) key, and draw over a bleamish or artefact to remove it (hopefully seamlessly). But if there was no bleamish in the area you painted over, it would simply revert to how it looked before.
    Try this:
Select the paint brush, and with a very small tip, paint a blob of colour on your image or canvas.  Now go back to the Healing brush and paint over that blob.  This tim the blog should be removed.  That's how that tool is designed to work.

  • Content Aware Tool Not Working As Expected

I've been watching a whole bunch of training videos on PhotoShop CS5 regarding new features lately, been running the trial of CS5 on my Windows PC for a few days now.. Pretty much everything works as advertised, but I can't seem to get the Content Aware tool to do everything I've seen it do.
My main question is regarding the dialog box that is supposed to pop up when pressing the delete key while an area is selected. Doing this simply deletes the content of my selection as previous versions did. Is there anything special I need to do to get this to work?
I use PS on my computer at home, and I don't have internet access there unfortunately (only at work), so I can't even get to the help options... Maybe some sort of installation package for the help file would help answer this and many other questions, if anybody knows where I can get that...?

On a PC you hit the backspace key rather than the delete key and that will bring up the content aware
    tool.

  • Is There Any "Content-Aware" Tool For After Effects?

Hi. I'm trying to remove an object from a video and refill the space previously occupied by the object with the surrounding imagery, so as to make it look like the object never existed. Basically like what Photoshop CS5's Content-Aware tool does. Is there any such feature for video in CS5? Thanks for your help

No. Please do a search before posting. The pros and cons have been discussed . In the meantime use the conventional paint and clone tools.

  • XGL causes corrupted images

I'm working on trying to get XGL working, and I followed the wiki. However, when i boot up (either method one or two), everything gets corrupted and slanty. Except for the terminal area of a konsole i happened to have open. X sort of runs (slowly, and crashes after a little bit).
I have a thinkpad t60p with ati Mobility FireGL V 5250, and am using fglrx version 8.40.something (i tried 8.41, but X would refuse to start) and kernel version 2.6.23.
EDIT: I just noticed a line about startxgl.
This, however, does not work either. I try running startxgl 0 kde ati, and it attempts to start gnome-session.

  • No content aware tools in cc

if I click on the tab I have no brushes ??

You have not provided any system info nor explained your procedures properly, so nobody can help you. From simple prerequisites missing like a selection to an unsuitable image mode to genuine system issues this could be anything. You need to do a much better job and be more specific.

  • How to create a 'Previous History' brush tool along with content aware

Truly did not know how to create a good title here.
When you use the 'Content Aware' tool and move subject 'A' to point B what happens is that A now sits on top of B which in turn means part of the image within B may be missing and you may still want it there where it was and where it should be. You could use the 'history brush' tool to brush away part of the new insert and erase what is there to reveveal what was there. How do you do the same thing to image A which now sits on B (to reveal what was there on A originally). What I mean is this. I moved a person from point A to point B. but parts of this person are missing (his ear, his knee, his shoe) so how do I get those parts back (in the new location)?
The history brush tool appears to be erasing by subtracting, what I would like to do in this case of course is not subtract but add or 're-add'.
    Thank you

    Hello,
here's a possible solution, before using content aware, take a snapshot of A and B, then use it as your history brush source whenever you need to 're-add':
please post back if you have any questions

  • Content Aware Fill doesn't work on large images

When stitching together a large panorama, the content aware tool doesn't work if the image is >30,000 pixels.  When you use the tool on large images (after I have flattened the layers and using the magic wand to select a white area at the top), it runs through the process as if it is going to fill and then after the "fill" window completes, the selected area remains white.
I noticed on some other forum posts that jpg saving couldn't occur on >30,000 pixel width images, so I changed the image size to 29,999 (from ~39,000) and the content fill tool worked.
Any ideas from the community if Adobe has a fix for this bug?

I found that I could get around this problem by doing sections instead of a complete linear fill (when you do panoramas, you tend to have a long white area on the top and bottom of the image - this is what I have been working with).
The downside with working in sections is you get some pattern matching issues so you have to go and do spot work until it looks the way you want.
Another interesting artifact from doing long linear sections is you have an edge (a line) between the fill and the original image.  To remove this, I zoom very close and use the lasso tool to select only that line.  Using the content fill tool to fix this is a very easy, clean solution.

  • Content-Aware Move Tool no longer working.

Background:  I use Windows 7.  I recently starting using Lightroom (downloaded 5.5 64 bit a few days ago).  I edited a photo in there, exported it, opened it in Photoshop CC 64 bit. My goal was to remove a pole with the content-aware move tool and an added layer.  At first, it worked like it usually does.  However, I attempted to do the same with another photo and it began saying  "selected area empty" even when I had my new layer selected, forcing me to perform my edits on the background layer. I have tried opening all types of files: CR2, JPEG, TIFF, PSD, including photos that I know were never edited in Lightroom and which I had previously been able to use this tool on.  Photoshop is not allowing me to use the content-aware move tool on any layer besides the background in any of these formats.
Furthermore, it no longer performs an automatic fill-in based upon the surrounding area when I delete the content that I have moved.  At times, it provides me with a "Fill" window  (at which point I can manually select "Content Aware") or it provides me with no option and simply deletes the selected area INCLUDING the background behind it.
I have tried restarting the programs with no luck.
Any help would be appreciated as this has pretty much halted by ability to work. Thank you!

Alright, so I downloaded CC 2014.  I opened it and first attempted using the content aware move tool on a photo that I had edited ONLY in Photoshop prior to this.  The tool worked again.
Then I attempted opening a few photos that I had been editing in Lightroom earlier today and then had exported as a new file so I could apply some corrections in Photoshop (i.e., removing stuff with the content aware tool). These files (I attempted a file that I had exported as a CR2 (original file type) and a file that I had exported as a PSD) are exhibiting the same issue I discussed above.
I closed the program completely.  Reopened the first photo (the one that had only been edited in Photoshop prior to this) and now the issue is reoccurring with that file too.
The issue seems to reside with the files that I am trying to move from Lightroom to Photoshop.  Unfortunately, once this issue occurs with one photos, it seems to be ruining my ability to use the content aware tool with all my files, whether they were ever touched in Lightroom or not.
Rebooting the program and my computer has not helped.

  • Content Aware Move Tool Missing

The Content Aware Tool is missing from the Tools Bar. How do I make it appear

    Hi!
You can also cycle the tools with an option/alt+click on their tool icon, in this case the first tool after the first divider of the toolbar.
If you right-click on a tool with an triangle on its bottom right corner, you get a drop down list with the alternate tools.

  • Spot Healing Brush Content-Aware SLOW! on large files

I updated from Photoshop CC to CC 2014. When working with ultra large format scans (more than 3 Gigapixel) the Spot Healing Brush set on Content-Aware takes unusually long (5-7 seconds for retouching small dust spots). In Photoshop CC the same Content-Aware Spot Healing Brush actions were executed instantly without any perceived delays once I've pointed a source for the Clone Stamp tool (which I found weird but doing so really made the Spot Healing Brush faster on large files). On smaller images it's still very fast on CC 2014 but not on the 3.5 GPixel images I'm working on at the moment.
I know there have been some changes/improvements for the Content-Aware tools but in this case it's seriously hitting the performance. I haven't noticed any other slow-downs in processing performance with the update.
    I'm working on a dual-CPU (2 x 2.4 GHz 6-core) and 128 GB RAM Windows 8.1 machine. I've allowed Photoshop to use up to 120 GB RAM.
Is there any way to reset the Content-Aware Spot Healing Brush to work as fast as it had before the CC 2014 update?

My performance settings are the same for CC and CC 2014.
I assume the problem is introduced by the changes/improvements of the Content-Aware tools and on normal file sizes it might not matter for the user if the operation takes 25 or 200 ms. But on large files it seriously slows down the retouching work.
So far I've been doing as you suggested, using CC for that type of work. But as it takes about 90 minutes to save these huge files and AFAIK Photoshop CC and CC 2014 cannot be run as separate instances simultaneously it's quite inconvenient not being able to use CC 2014 for some other type of work while CC is saving the file.
If the new Content-Aware functions take that much more processing it would be great to have a choice (similar to the choice of the RAW-engine used in ACR). However, if the new Content-Aware functions are just not yet optimized for fast performance then it's a bug.
I will file a Feature Request/Bug Report and ask if there is anything that can be done about it in Photoshop CC 2014.
    Thanks for your help, Eugene.

  • How much of a selection to get best Content-Aware results?

In CS6, I want to remove an arm from an image that is on a wrinkled sheet. The fact that it is on a wrinkled sheet is good because the wrinkles seem pretty random. What is the correct way to use the Content-Aware tool. Should I be trying to make a selection around just the arm with just a little bit of the background/sheet OR should I make a selection of the arm with a lot of the background/sheet for the Content-Aware tool to work best?
    Thanks in advance.

You basically want to just make a selection of the thing you want to remove. So stay as close to the arm as possible. If you grab too much of the background around it, it's like telling content-aware you want to remove things that look like that bit of background as well, which is not the case. Now having said that, it doesn't hurt to give a little bit of distance just to make sure that all of the arm, including any blurry pixels, arm hairs, etc, are encompassed by the selection. And often if it doesn't do it in one shot, content-aware may do most of the job, then you simply make another selection, tight to the new area that's still not what you want and run it again. Sometimes after, 1, 2, or 3 attempts you can finally get the pesky thing content-aware-d away.

  • Spotty Content Aware

I've recently noticed that my Content Aware tool isn't running smoothly. I'm not sure if it is because of the image size or what, but, when the tool is active, it is spotty, slow and not creating smooth lines. This is terribly inconvenient to my workflow efficiency.
How can I fix my lagging Content Aware?

    Shift-Delete maybe?

  • Content Aware Scaling--Upscaling isn't working?

I am using content aware scaling.  Everything works great until I try to upscale the image by dragging the corners.  When I try to transform to the larger size, the part that has been widened is "hidden."  I know that it is larger because I can "move" it within the white box that marks the original size, but I can't make the complete upscaled image appear.  Can anyone help with this?  Thanks!

After content aware scale, go to Image>Reveal All
    and see if that helps.
