Clustering on a single box.

Is there typically a performance benefit from clustering EJBs on single box?
That is, running a number of smaller (memory footprint) Weblogic Servers on
a single machine vs. one larger instance. In its simplest form, we have an
application where stateless session beans are used to perform transactions
          on behalf of the client.
I think this boils down to JVM performance characteristics. Can the JVM
provide adequate memory management for object creation, GC, etc.
We are using NT, have a gigabyte of memory and using Sun's JVM version
          1.2.2.

          For starters, check: http://www.enteract.com/~bradapp/links/
Search for "Garbage Collection & Memory Management"
          Srikant, [email protected], http://www.weblogic.com/, etc.

  • Maximum no of users supported by OCS 10.1.2 in a single box installation ?

    Hi OCS experts,
What is the maximum number of users supported by OCS 10.1.2 in a single box installation for a 6 way Intel box or a 12way AIX box.???
I mean if the server hardware (processor, memory, and storage are huge enough)...
Are there any limits by the software side of OCS ???
I am planning to deploy OCS for about 15,000 users on Redhat Linux AS 4. We also have the option to deploy it on AIX if required.
    Many thanks,
    maas.

Many thanks. But as OCS 10.1.2 documentation indicates upto 1,000 users for single server installation. So I wanted to know if there is any practical limit by the OCS software itself on the number of users in single server deployment on Linux.
Like for instance IBM indicates that domino 7 can now go upto 12,000 users in a single box.
Is there any similar recommendation from Oracle to ease in capacity planning decisions for Architects and Implementers.???
I understand that it would be a very difficult prediction keeping in mind the huge functionality of OCS. So let me narrow the scope of our deployment, In the beginning we would using OCS mostly for Email (15,000 users) and about 2000 of these users would also be using calendering. 4,000 Email users use POP clients to check emails frequently. Remaining users use Webmail to check emails upto 2 or 3 times a day.
Now, if you experts advice that a six way IBM eServer X445 server with 16GB RAM and sufficient SAN storage would be able to take this load then I can go ahead with it. Do I have to take any specific measure in design and deployement to leave room for adding nodes.
    Many thanks,
    maas

  • What do I do after installing OCS single-box Windows?

    hi.
    here is my environment
    Windows2000Server, OCS single-box R1
I will use Oracle Calendar , Oracle Files and Oracle9iAS Portal
I'm not going to use Oracle Email.
    I've installed single-box R1 successfully.
but I coudln't start Unified Message Service
if I click one of the Unified Message Service such as SMTP outbound or SMTP inbound, error appears and says "no instance"
is it because i didn't install Oracle Email which is one of the OCS component?
What do I exactly have to do after Installation?
    thanks in advance

Firstly if you do not plan to use email you need to make sure you specify a proper smtp host as part of the files installation. files needs this to send its various notifications and also the password for the subscriber - once it is created.
Secondly unified messaging depends on oracle email - if you dont configure that you cant expect unified messaging to work - and you shouldnt have to start unified messaging if you do not plan to use oracle email.

  • OCS windows single box installation fails

    Hi there,
I´m having trouble with installing the OCSR2 single box distribution.
My environment is a Xeon with 1GB Ram running Windows Server 2003.
The machine is a blank installation without any third party tools, just the available MS patches are installed.
The information storage installer runs without any complaints but the second step which installs the IAS infrastructure fails with a couple of configuration assistants.
First one that fails is the Instance schema assistant. All other assistants are related to OID. Like Password randomize and creating guest account etc.
I have used all defaults for every setup option, though there are not many ;-)
The server is registered with our DNS server and has a fully qualified domain name, which I have proofed from other computers in our LAN.
Are there any suggestions for this issue. I´m really stuck with installation and have no idea what to do.
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Cheers Elmar

I have the same problem, on Windows 2000 Server with SP4. I noticed that the InternetDirectory service is marked as "starting". I looked at which ports were open (netstat -an) and 389 is not opened.\
I also have an another problem: the Database Configuration Assistant has failed too. It complains that I have a invalid database domain name:
Invalide database domain name. The database domain name must start with an alphabetical character.
But my database domain name (and SID) only contains letters.

  • Every single box is outlined after conversion from CS3 to CS2!!!! Plz HELP!!!

    Hi there guys,
I'm quite new to the forum, but I have come through an issue that is weird to me...
See: One of my clients I'm a freelance designer– is an ad agency whose only graphic designer is on marriage vacation.
This guy converted some files from Indesign CS3 to CS2 so I can go on whit the projects while he is out happily just married in Thailand...
The problem is, however, whit every single box, doesn't matter if they are text or image boxes or even empty boxes. Neither if they already had outline or not. They all have somehow come up whit a black outline. And I'm starting to lose my nerves on fixing that...
Moreover, there are some text boxes –footnotes and the like– that contain a web address or an e-mail direction. This "www.xxxxxxxxx.com" and the "[email protected]" stuff is outlined within the text box with the same black line that will disappear only if I type back the thing...
Is this maybe a known issue? Has anyone ever heard or experienced that?
Any workarounds or known fixes or whatever?
Thanks a lot for taking the trouble to read and answer!!!

The outlines around hyperlinks are just visual indicators for you so you'll know they are there (not all hyperlinks show up as URLs) and won't print. You should be able to turn them off in the hyperlinks palette if you want to. If you just re-type the hyperlink text it will no longer be a real hyperlink, if that'st required.
As far as the strokes on everything, I'm not sure. Is it possible there's an object style applied to all of these items and the stroke is now defined in the style. (Does CS2 support object styles? I've forgotten and don't have it on this machine to check). It could also be some sort of translation glitch in the move from CS3 to CS2.

  • How to start single box installation

    Hi
I've downloaded the 3 files for linux single box instalation(9.0.4.1), but I have problems to continue with installation, I hava an error that say that he cannot find .rsp files por storage/midtie/infra
I think I'm making something wrong uncompressing the .cpio files, because i get a lot of directories with a Disk1 label. Somebody knows the correct way to do it ? I've followed de otn directions and didn't work:
    - gzip -d [all 3 files]
    - cpio -idcmv < ocs_9041_onebox_lnx_file1.cpio.gz
    - chmod +w Disk1
    - cd Disk1
    - cpio -idcmv < ocs_9041_onebox_lnx_file2.cpio.gz
    - cpio -idcmv < ocs_9041_onebox_lnx_file3.cpio.gz
    THanks !

I am getting the same problem when trying to install. It keeps looking for the files relative to the root directory /onebox/ instead of the directory the rsp files are located in which is /somepath/onebox/Disk1/install/linux. From my install log file I see the problem but am not sure how to fix it. The source and destination paths are being set wrong.
Starting install Install Phase 1 of component Oracle Collaboration Suite Single-box Install
    Calling Action fileActions2.3.0.8.0 instantiateFile
    selectedNodes = null
    source = /onebox/onebox_stg.rsp
    destination = /onebox/onebox_stg.rsp

  • Multiple SOA clusters within a Single Domain

    Hi All,
We're looking at a scenario where there would be multiple SOA clusters within a single domain. Would that be possible to do? I mean I can create multiple SOA clusters but it seems that applications deployed to one of the 2 SOA clusters seem to go into an inconsistent state. Please advise. Thank you.

This is just because all SOA servers in a domain will refer to one(same) SOAINFRA schema for SOA deployments info and hence belong to same logical group (cluster) and that's the reason why you cann't even have two separate SOA managed servers without a cluster.

  • Installation of OCS windows single box version?

    hi.
I was installing OCS windows single-box version.
I failed the first installation because of bad unzip files.
and then I deinstalled all components(i would say component) that I failed the installation.
I tried to install ocs second time, but
whenever i came to Oracle9iAs installation
the dialog comes up and says :
"All Oracle9iAS installations on a host must be installed by the same operating system user. The initial Oracle9iAS installation located at C:\Jason\OCS\mtier was installed by a different operating system user. Please exit this install, log in as the user who installed the initial Oracle9iAS installation, and restart the install. "
I've installed ocs with the same user. I'm 100% sure it is.
    now I tried several times ( I think over 10 times )
install and deinstall and install again.
anybody got this same problem with me?
    any idea?
    thanks in advance

Uninstall did not remove Oracle registry keys.
You should do that manually. If you have only one home on Your machine then You should uninstall key :
    My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
If there are more then one home you should remove keys:
    My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME(n)
where n is number of Collaboration home : HOME1 or HOME2
Also you should uninstall all collaboration services
    MyComputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services.
But only collaboration services must be uninstalled

Any concern.?Does it have any concern about release dependencies follow note number:21960.?
                          Best regrads,

    Hi cz,
It is not standard practice of installing everything on the same server.
Especially for Optimizer, definitely you need separate server to
    compute results.

  • When OCS R2 single box for Windows?

I see the single box OCS R2 for Linux, but when will a single box version of R2 be available for windows?
    thx Curt

I have been seen admin guide for ocs, but still can not install this product by its description !
I download Collaboration Suite single box for WinNT from OTN site, I got three ZIP file and extract into a same new directory c:\ocs, then I got these directory :
    c:\OCS\DISK1\
    c:\OCS\storage\DISK1
, I first run c:\ocs\disk1\install\win32\setup.exe but got java run time environment not found error message !
then I try c:\OCS\storage\DISK1\setup.exe to install storage, but must input infrastructure information in this progress(I still not install infra yet).
so, what is the correct step to install this single box OCS ?

  • Problems with downloading OCS single box win32 version

I'm trying to download OCS single box win32 and seem to have a problem with the disk2 download. (win32_ocs_90411_singlebox_Disk2.zip). The download is finishing with an incorrect size and the result is (of course) that i can't unzip the download.
The others (disk 1 and 3) are OK.
Is anyone familiar with this problem???
    Thanks in advance,
    Maarten

    Hi Maarten!
Try to contact somebody from OTN or Oracle directly and attend them to the problem.
I never downloaded this version, but it happened to me as well that some software from OTN did not download correctly. Contacting OTN did solve this.

  • OCS Single-box installation for windows??

    hi.
do i have to install Oracle9i Database, before i install OCS single-box for windows?
    any one have any idea?

No, You don't need oracle 9i DB installed in Single Box, Once you start Single Box installation, you will be prompted to create a DB for Files/Email and other 9i DB will be created for IAS.

  • Create multiple SOA Clusters in a single domain?

Is it allowed to create multiple SOA Clusters in a single domain with both SOA Clusters sharing the same soa-infra schema but deploying different composites?
    Create a domain with
    - Admin server (AdminServer)
    - SOA_Cluster1
    -soa_server1
    -soa_server2
    - SOA_Cluster2
    -soa_server3
    -soa_server4
SOA_Cluster1 will need to deploy servcies A, B and C and SOA_Cluster2 will have services A, D and E. Is there any documentation which can help us with this?

Thanks for the document link but it seems that the document was created only yesterday. Can you elaborate on "only one set of SOA schemas is allowed per SOA domain/cluster". I was able to build another SOA cluster_2 to my existing domain with SOA_cluster1 pretty successfully. The only problem was the internal JMS queues were configured as Uniform Distributed. hence i was not able to point them to 2 clusters.

Disk 2 (1,974,136kb) and 3 (1,071,659kb) are very large downloads. If you are sure they downloaded correctly try a program like zip genius (www.zipgenius.it) to open them. Worked for me.

Using the same port number is the requirement for setting a cluster. So, the
