Content Deployment across Publishing site.

Dear All, We are now having a requirement in SharePoint 2013 where we will have to move content from one site collection to another site collection. Here we are facing an errors as both the site collections are enabled with publishing features. Can any one
provide us to perform Content Deployment between 2 site collections having publishing features enabled.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I follow the question.  Quick Deployment is just a security setting that allows certain users to tag specific content to be pushed to the target location outside of a regular content deployment.  The process is still the same.  So
if you can do a regular deployment and your user has the ability to do a quick deployment then you should be able to tag content for a quick deploy.

  • How to use Cross-Site Publishing to publish content on Internet public site?

    Hi All,
    I have already build a site designed for anonymous access from Internet. Because the requirements were to enable SEO friendly URLs I have to enable Managed Navigation. This feature is not compatible with Content Deployment. So, I cannot deploy content from
    staging server to production anymore. I am looking at Cross-Site Publishing option but I could not find a way how I can publish Master Pages an Layouts to Publishing site. Also all pages were created in Pages document library. I do not want to rebuild a site
    from scratch.
    Is there any way to publish exist site build in classical SharePoint way Master Page-Layout Page-Publishing Page to Publishing site using Cross-Site Publishing feature?
    Oleg

    Hi Oleg,
    What do you want to do with the master pages and publishing pages after publishing them to the publishing site?
    Cross-site publishing is used to show the content from authoring site collection to publishing site collections.
    If you want to show the master pages or publishing pages in publishing site collections, you can use cross-site publishing feature to achieve this goal.

  • New SCCM deployment for 10,000 users, single domain across 2 sites connected with a fast WAN link

    Hi,
     I'm looking at rolling out an SCCM 2012 deployment in my environment. We have 10,000 users, a single AD domain, several thousand Windows 7 laptops and desktops, as well as few hundred MAC OS 10.6 devices and we currently use WSUS for updates. We have
    2 main sites with the users equally split across the sites and we have an internal PKI.
    I'm looking at doing the following:
     - deploying a single primary SCCM 2012 site server (site A)
     - 1 or 2 distribution points in site B
     The main things I'm after are:
     - Computer inventory (MAC + Windows)
     - Application deployment (MAC + Windows)
     - Hardware inventory (MAC + windows)
     - Deploy updates (MAC + windows)
     - Remotely power on devices and patch overnight
    I'm aiming to setup an SCCM infrastructure and aim to achieve the above in a month.
    What I'm not sure about is:
    - if I need a secondary site server?
    - How I should handle WSUS updates ? I don't know if SCCM can leverage the current WSUS infrastructure or whether it's better just to get rid of it and install the WSUS role as part of SCCM?
    - I believe that to enable application deployment for MACs I need to install a PKI certificate on my distribution points. If do I this, presumably all my Windows clients will also connect via HTTPs. Are there any downsides to doing this?
    If anyone has deployed a similar setup I'd be keen to hear from them.
    Thanks in advance

    1. WSUS: Be careful here. If you just remove the WSUS policy computers can just revert back to their default setting which would be to connect to the Internet at 3am and automatically install the updates. I've seen this happen on a large site and it is not
    pretty. It's better practice to leave the policy in place but to disable automatic updates (or you could change the WSUS server to be your new ConfigMgr WSUS instance - this would have the same effect).
    2. Secondary Sites: It's not uncommon for customers to start without the secondary site and monitor the WAN link for excessive traffic. The secondary site can be introduced afterwards if it is deemed neccessary.

  • Copying content type across site collection

    It is a good practice to create a content type and then create a list from it.
    Now, say that we create a content type and then create a list from it.
    If we want to create similar list in a different site collection, we need to have the content type in that site collection as well.
    Could you please let me know how to copying the content type from one site collection to another.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks for posting your query, Kindly try out the below mentioned script to copying your Content Type from one site to another
    Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell
    $w1 = Get-SPWeb "https://sharepointsite1.com"
    $w2 = Get-SPWeb "https://sharepointsite2.com"
    foreach ($f1 in $w1.Fields) {
    if ($f1.Group -eq "PepsiSiteColumns") {
    $f2 = $w2.Fields | Where { $_.Id -eq $f1.Id };
    if ($f2 -eq $null) {
    Write-Host("Creating field " + $f1.Title + "...");
    $f2 = $w2.Fields.AddFieldAsXml($f1.SchemaXml);
    $f1.Delete(); # Careful with this one!
    } else {
    Write-Host("Field " + $f1.Title + " already exists. Not taking any action.");

  • Content Deployment Sharepoint 2013 Standard or enterprise

    Hi,
    Is content deployment feature(from one farm to another) a part of Sharepoint 2013 standard edition or enterprise edition?
    Thanks

    Not sure about content deployment source but cross site publishing is only available in SharePoint 2013 Enterprise edition, i suggest you to go for enterprise edition for safe side.

  • Best Way to Sync Lists Across Multiple Site Collections?

    A quick query I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with...
    Within our university intranet I am assigning each department a team site within its own Site Collection. So that departments can associate Document Library files with a set list of academic courses, I created a custom dropdown field and deployed it as a Feature. While this worked within SharePoint, when you attempted to set the document properties within the Microsoft Word environment the custom fields were rendered as empty text boxes (meaning that staff are no longer restricted in when information they can enter).
    To get around this I'm considering going back-to-basics and creating a Custom List, populating it with the titles of our academic courses, and then assigning it to a Document Library via a Lookup Field. I know that Microsoft Word will then correctly display the metadata dropdown.
    As I am using multiple Site Collections, I'm unsure of the "best" way to proceed.
    I've already written a Console Application which can create a Custom List within a targetted site and populate it with the contents of an XML file - but I would need to run this every time I created a new Site Collection and what would I do when I wanted to update the contents of all the lists?
    Other than modifying my Console Application to loop through all instances of the Custom List within Site Collections and sync it to the contents of the XML file, is there another (better) option that I am over-looking?
    Its such a shame I can't create cross-collection Lookup Fields within all of the Site Collections that point to a single top-level list.
    Many thanks.

    My instinctive questions drifts towards why you have different site collections.  If all the sites were sub sites within the same site collection, a global field would solve the issue quite nicely.
    If you have legitimate reasons for keeping the sites seperated into separate site collections, I would look at using an Event Handler to trigger updates to reference values in each site collection, be they global fields or lists.  Then if you wish to update the values, you only need to update the trigger list to propagate the updates across your site sollections to all your sites in question.
    I trust that answers your question...
    Thanks

  • Content Deployment Job - Schedule

    I have a moderlately large publishing site collection with 600+ sub sites and 12000+ pages. I have received requests to increase the frequency of content deployment incremental jobs from once a day to once every hour. I have 4 web servers and 4 app
    servers. My question is, will increasing the frequency of the job to every hour degrade the performance of live site? I am asking because as people are accessing my live site, the import job will be importing content too, correct?
    I didnt see any best practice around how frequently should the job be run. MS only says that do no have a very long gap b/w jobs but nothing about how frequent is good and what is dangerous.
    Regards, Mahesh

    Hi Mahesh,
    The performance of the content deployment job will be affected by many elements, so it depends on the situation what frequency the job should run.
    As the content deployment incremental jobs deploys only the modified content and items directly linked to the modified content, this increases the chance for problems which can cause incremental content deployment to fail.
    In case that you have a large content deployment running with several GB of content it can happen that the decompression phase takes longer than 600 seconds, and then there will be a timeout. To avoid such Timeout message, you need to increase
    the RemoteTimeout value.

  • Placeholder not visible in custom page layout - publishing site

    Hi,
    I have a custom page layout in publishing site.
    I had added a new textbox to the existing page layout as below:
    <tr id="trCustomContent2">
    <td id="tdCustomContent" style="padding-top:5px;">
    <div id="divCustomContent" style="padding-left:6px !important;vertical-align:top; width:450px;" >
    <h3>
    <PageFieldTextField:TextField ID="TextField1" FieldName="fec9f0d3-77a3-4afc-99d3-99d2cb745d2c" runat="server" >
    </PageFieldTextField:TextField></h3>
    </div>
    </td>
    </tr>
    I deployed the changes, but in the edit mode of the page, i am not able to see the page layout.
    This issue is happening when a subsite is created. For the existing sites, the textbox is getting shown.
    How to fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi Venkatzeus,
    For each page layout, it has associated with a content type.
    You can click into the content type in site content types under Web Designer Galleries in root site settings.
    And then click Add from new site column to create and add the new site column to this content type.
    After that you can add this column to the page layout(.aspx page for the page layout) with the code below(you need to change the fieldname value to the corresponding GUID of the column):
    <div>
    <Publishing:EditModePanel runat="server" CssClass="edit-mode-panel">
    <PageFieldTextField:TextField ID="TextField1" FieldName="6bf50814-27d1-4b36-9980-c702c25080d7" runat="server">
    </PageFieldTextField:TextField>
    </Publishing:EditModePanel>
    </div>
    Best regards.

  • Custom template available across multiple site collections

    I have created a custom site template which I need to be available across multiple site collections. Is there a global area where I can put the .wsp file so that I can use it within any site collection.
    I also have a custom document library which I need to be available from with the site made from the custom site template mentioned above - Is there a global area where I can put the .stp file so that I can use it within any site within any site collection.
    thanks

    This will really depend how the template has been packaged.  If it's a content type, than editing this and making sure that the "update content type" radio is selected will do the trick. Can you ask someone who's made one to show you how they generate
    the template. If it's within the New --> XXX Document, than you're in luck
    If they're just deployed as normal files within a library, you'll have a much harder time.

  • AppParts and Content Deployment Jobs

    One of our SharePoint customers' environment has a bunch of publishing pages with SP hosted AppParts on these pages.
    Customer prefers Content Deployment Jobs to publish the pages from Staging to Production.
    Is it a viable option to have the publishing pages with AppParts moved to production env using Content Deployment Jobs?
    What are the other recommended options to move pages with AppParts from one env to another?

    Hi ,
    No, as  the page which contains App Parts is related to a SharePoint Hosted App and  a special  isolated app domain.
    For the issue, customer need to migrate the SharePoint Hosted App, such as change the SharePoint Site url in the properties of the SharePoint project , change the client web part page in the app part properties and so on.

  • Publishing site will not create catalog item URLs

    I have an authoring site with a list that I have enabled as a catalog. When I move over to my publishing site (sites/Publishing) I am able to connect to that catalog. I have Managed Navigation and my term store set up and the links are generate across the
    top (Ex: planes, trains, automobiles).
    When I click on one of those links, say automobiles, the page displays correctly (sites/Publishing/automobiles). But, when I try to click on a catalog item I am just taken back to sites/Publishing. It appears that no friendly URL was created as I specified
    when I made the connection.
    What could I possibly be doing wrong? Hopefully I described this well enough

    Is the site a public anonymous site or just for internal use?
    Be sure to add a Root term to the product hierarchy (or whatever you may have changed the termset name to)
    when setting your columns for use in a catalog, It’s worth noting the default unchecked of “Allow multiple values” is important. Multiple value columns are unsupported for the column used in integration.
    Also, for the terms to function properly in nav, Add your publishing site URL to the site collection access line for the term group so it can present the terms as friendly URLs and navigation on the consuming Site Collection.
    Alternately, if you want it available globally, you can create a new group under the global MMS, then move the term set to the global group
    Connecting to your catalog requires Publishing features at SPSite & SPWeb level
    Crawl must run against the catalog content after it was enabled as a catalog in order for it to show in Manage Catalog Connections
    Don’t forget to allow access to the Product Hierarchy Term Set.

  • Why is my published site not operational when using Firefox or IE?

    The original problem I experienced had to do with the fact that my published site's navigation bar was totally missing on each page and replaced with a "period" as described by the following thread... http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9899999&#9899999
    The weird thing is that this problem only exists when using IE or Firefox on a PC (at work). Site is 100% operational using Safari on a Mac (at home).
    Thinking my iWeb files were corrupt, I uninstalled and reinstalled iWeb '08. After doing so, I republished my site. The good news: the nav bar is now present on each page and operational. The bad news: my photo pages and blog page have zero content other than the header banner and nav bar. Again, this problem only exists when accessing the published site using IE or Firefox on a PC. The site is fully operational and all photos/blog entries present when accessing the site using Safari on my Mac.
    What gives? Did a recent iWeb update (intended for iWeb 09 users or intel-based macs) corrupt my iWeb '08 on my PowerBook G4?

    Please note that Java and Javascript are not related. iWeb uses a lot
    of Javascript, not Java. There may be some issues with the Javascript
    generated by iWeb -- I don't know. If it seems to work for someone
    and not for someone else then it is an issue at the browser end, not
    the website end. Each browser may not be handling the Javascript in
    exactly the same way. (You gotta love standards.)

  • How do I revert my iWeb published site (the actual published site in internet is up to date) the one on my repaired computer is old from a time machine back-up and out of date?

    The question is above I repaired my hardrive and the iweb site is from an old time machine back-up. In the web my site is up to date and I want to update my computer stored iWeb site to the site in internet ?

    You need to copy and paste the content from the published files back into iWeb and recreate any missing pages since iWeb has no import facility.
