Controling Page Breaks through EDD

Hi All,
I'm authoring DITA in FrameMaker using the DITA-FMx plugin and wonder to what extent it's possible to control page breaks (keep withprevious/next) through the EDD? For example, I need to keep everything that belongs to the same <step> together (which are usually <cmd> and <info>).
The paragraph format for <cmd> is called NextStep. In the ideal world, I would need to modify settings of this format and define "Keep with Next" in the template. This would solve the issue. However, due to some business limitations, I'm not allowed to make in any changes in formats themselves. It seems like the only place where I could do it is the EDD.
In the EDD, I would have to define the context rule for <cmd>, something like :
Use paragraph format: NextStep
This would apply NextStep for the <cmd> contents. Then I need to dynamically modify NextStep and override its Pagination settings. As far as I can understand, I can do this using the format changle list. However, I can't apply BOTH a paragraph AND a format change list to modify the specified
format for thje same context rule? I can either say "Use paragraph format" or "Use format change list", right?
Is yes, is there any alternative way to ahieve what I need without altering the format itself?

You can have either a pgf fmt reference or a implicit format change list in a single context rule. But you can have as many context rules as you like. Also, you can specify a default pgf fmt before all text formatting rules start.
I use this to specify pagination overrides depending on more complex contexts.

WHY CAN'T I CONTROL PAGE BREAKS

When I export a form to pdf, the page breaks I created in formscentral no longer exist. The document is then too long and my sections are split over pages. Very frustrating. My document is 13 pages long, when in reality, it is about 8 or 9.
It's imperative I make it a pdf form as it is a huge questionnaire to send to suppliers.
Any help gratefully received.

The main thing to look at is the "View" setting and for PDF set it to "Page View", the page breaks you define in Page View will be used in the PDF, there are also "implicit" page breaks added automatically based on the page size.

How to control page breaks in PDL documents

We have a strange output in our Purchase Order that prints all but the last line on the same page. The last line goes to the next page (usually page 2).
How do I remedy this in the document structure? I can't determine what's causing the document to print in this manner.

ok this seems to be it along with an "Area: End of Report" section at a height of 229.
then how do you change the footer? i've tried to change the Footer without taking all of the objects off? on resizing the area i snaps back to the original dimension height.

Page Break in ALV List display

Dear Community,
I have a requirement wherein we have group account number ,under which there are 'n'sub group account numbers.Each sub group account number has credit,debit,cumulative(credit-debit) values.whenever group account number changes automatically a new page should be triggered.Now the problem sub account number is running into pages but same page number is displayed even it runs into several pages.I need to restrict this ,at the end of the page(std is 65 lines/page)page break has to be applied,along with the subtotals of the credit,debit,cumulative respectively and page number has to be displayed and the process should continue with the remaining sub group account number values.
Please do the needfull.

Hi,
In order to achieve the Page Breaks, we need to fill in the sort catalog structure, LVC_S_SORT, as follows:
FS_SORT-SPOS = 1. Sort order position
FS_SORT-FIELDNAME = CARRID. Field name on which page break need to be triggered. Whenever this field changes, page break will trigger
FS_SORT-GROUP = . This has 2 options. for page breaks and U for underlines.
FS_SORT-OBLIGATORY = UL. If you need to retail these page breaks through out, we need to set this as obligatory. Otherwise, if the end user selects any other field and presses SORT, then page breaks would disappear

All page breaks are converted into section breaks

In my template in ms word 2007 I have page breaks and section breaks. When I generate the output what I see is that all the page breaks are automatically converted into section breaks. Is this a bug ? Or is there a way to solve it.?

Are your page breaks created by inserting multiple returns? If so, then the script will certainly remove them. You can "fix" this by deleting the relevant line from the text file. In general, however, it's better to control page breaks by other means.

How can I control unwanted page breaks in exported .pdf files?

I am building a form that, for a variety of reasons, must be available offline. Unfortunately, the .pdf export is introducing a page break on the 3rd page that leaves 80% of the page empty. The next element after the page break is a small text field which would easily fit on the preceding page. I have _not_ put any page breaks into this document, so the editor is following its default behavior regarding page breaks. Is there any way to tell the editor not to break at a given spot?
Also, in terms of a more general feature request, it would be very nice if there was a more intelligent method of handling pagination. I understand why (in a separate spot on the same form) the editor is pushing a large form element to the next page (since it won't fit on the previous one), but I would much rather have the option of splitting a large rating scale instrument so that the first half fills one page and the final half (with headings repeated) begins the second page. All of this empty space just looks tacky, and I can't imagine anyone actually wanting the default behavior if it would leave more than a few lines of empty space at the bottom of a page.

Well, I downloaded the trial of Acrobat XI to see if I could fix this, and lo and behold it allowed me to define the .pdf page breaks exactly as I desired! The "secret" was to switch to page view from the view menu. It also works in the online version of FormsCentral.

Page breaking different on desktop v. concurrent manager

I created a BI Publisher template for a report and I am creating PDF output. When I preview it on the desktop tool, it page breaks correctly. When I run it through the concurrent manager, it does not page break correctly. Does anyone know what controls this? Is there some setting I need to change?

Okay, I will answer my own question, since I found a reasonable workaround/solution. I decided to try using a different font for the report (Verdana > Arial Narrow) to see if maybe a different font would resolve the issue. When I updated the report and ran the report via the Concurrent Manager, the report came out perfectly.
I hope this helps anyone else who runs into this issue.

Pages '08 does not import MS Word Page-breaks

Pages '08 imports MS Word 2004 for Mac documents without the page-breaks.
I love the Mac interface and really want to stop using MS software. I was hopeful with all the good press about Pages '08. I downloaded the 30-day trial and immediately discovered this glitch.
I must be able to exchange 300+ page manuscripts with MS Office users. If Pages cannot import the page-breaks in these documents, it's a deal-breaker for me. I'm not going to go through and re-insert 300+ page-breaks everytime I have to edit and return a document.

I've had the same problem as Jeffrey ... but with Appleworks 6 documents. I can import a small amount of Appleworks pages with hard page breaks (Insert Page Break) but when I try to import the entire 300 pages of my manuscript into Pages '08 the page breaks move up and are not where they should be. Also, many of my large Appleworks text manuscript files (no graphics) will not open in Pages '08. On top of that, the line spacing in Pages is a big headache,. I still am unable to place 11 lines on the first page of each Chapter (as I have done before in Appleworks with no problem). Sometimes it will give me 11, next time it will be 12. Hitting return once often moves two lines of type rather than one. Very frustrating. I have followed instructions and even added styles with my own template. I also used "Exact" spacing of 24 pt with my 12pt type because using double spacing is not even close to what double spacing is in Appleworks using the exact same font (Times New Roman, 12pt w/ 24pt spacing.) Any help will be appreciated (before I go back to Appleworks).

Vendor open items report without page break after changing vendor account

Hi,
I would like to get the vendor open items report without pagination when the vendor account changes.
The option of deleting the * mark in the Filter page is not valid for me, because this way the vendor's name dissappear. I mean, it would be ok if I could show in the output of the report the name of the vendors.

HI,
If I understood your issue correctly then in the report S_ALR_87012085 is a field "Summarization level (0-4)" in the output controls.
You just have to set this field to the value '2'.
When you set the field to two, the page break will first executed, when the page is "full".
If you want to see information about the "Summarization level (0-4)" field, you just have to set the cursor in it, and press F1.
I believe this answer solve your problem.

Changing Paper size does not change page break?

I am using Oracle Report R6i.
I have created a matrix report showing months horizontally and items vertically. By default, the report displays a vertical line (Page Break Line) at 8 inches (as shown in Ruler).
I change the paper size in Page Setup Menu but still the page break line displaying at 8 inches due to which only 03 months are displaying per page at Landscape mode. My page size is : 210x230 cm.
How can I extend that page break line so that atleast 6 months to be displayed per page.

Changing the size used by the printer with the page setup dialog does not affect how Reports formats the output. You need to change Reports page size for this.
In 6i, the page size for Reports is controlled by properties against the Section objects (header, main, trailer) in the navigator.
In 2.5 you would set the vertical and horizontal page size in the Reports property palette for all sections. With the introduction of individual sections in 6i, each section can have it's own page size.
In your example you probably want to change the page size against the "main section" to 13" x 8.26" to get the report to format in Landscape. Also remember to set the ORIENTATION parameter or property to "Landscape" so that the printer is set to Landscape as well.

Page-break in alv background job for alv output variant not coming correctl

I have created an ALV grid report. When i run the report in background i get the output with correct page-break on FIELD1. Now when i run the report in background with an "ALV output variant" (its the ALV variant that controls the fields display in the output; this is not the program variant), i do not get the page-break on FIELD1. I have already build the sort criteria and using:
gs_sort-group = '* '.     "New-Page
Please let me know what could be reason for not getting the page-break in background when i am using the alv output variant and how do i correct this problem.

I have solved the problem. While running the program in background, we get the page-breaks when we use the below part of code in the sort catalogue with the condition that the program variant should not use any ALV layout variant.

If you are using the ALV layout variant in the program variant then we can check the ROWPOS, COLPOS, and NO_OUT for that ALV layout variant and pass them along in the fieldcatalog table. You should be careful with not to pass the layout variant in the DISVARIANT. You can notice that i have cleared it and simply passing the program name into that.

The reason i'm doing it this way is that when we pass the layout variant name, the contents in gt_fieldcat were getting modified.
One more thing i'd like to point out is that that, i tried to delete the fields with no_out = 'x'. Now when i ran the program in background with all the fields in sort catalog (suppose there are 2 fields field1 and field2) also in fieldcatalog it ran fine. In the next run in background i removed one of the fields in sort catalog from the fieldcatalog (delete the fields with no_out = 'x') and i got dump. Basically i had hidden field1 and so the code which was deleting fields with no_out = 'x' deleted this field from gt_fieldcat. So basically we should not delete fields with no_out = 'x'.
I was getting ABAP runtime errors    MESSAGE_TYPE_X in the following part of the standard code.

i have just mentioned this part because when i checked the forum many people were getting such errors "MESSAGE_TYPE_X". This could also be one of the reasons.

How can I create a page break on z version of HAP_PDF_OFFLINE_FORM ?

I've created a z version of HAP_PDF_OFFLINE_FORM for different enhancements. One change that's baffling me is trying get a page break when the form reaches "2. Current Goals".
I'm pretty sure it's a conditional page break when looping through a table of data, but which one?
Also when setting up the when condition, is a literal suppose to be in single or double quotes? Or none at all?

Not a clean solution but a fast one without any special tricks:
- create a hidden subform, go to tab Pagination and set the page break here (like Top of next page or anything you want)
- test your condition to make the subform visible and only when visible the page break is applied
If you don´t need a condition, skip item 2. Hope that will help fast, regards Otto

i couldnt control the page break...i can display 14 lines in my main window....even if my document contains only 14 items, all the 14 items r displaying in the first window....then it is trigerring page break....displaying nothing on main window of second page, not even table header....
i tried to increase the height of main window......if my doc contians more than 14 items , then 15 items will display on first page..
even then if my doc contains exactly 14 items ...then its displaying 14 items in the first page and trigerring a page break , displaying nothing on second page....
pls help me...

How to give Page break in XML

Can we give an page break instructions through XML file.
I have an xml file which i am importing and generating pdf.Is there any tag or paragrapg style that can be applied to xml element to indicate page break.

You cannot add the Page break as a symbol in XML. Instead you can add element or attribute as "PageBreak".
In InDesign scripting you can find the "PageBreak" elements and insert the pagebreaks by using the following code.

Setting Page Break based on Number of Months in a matrix

I have a matrix showing data group by month(Column group). I added this matrix inside a list control to have page break for each 12 rows. The report has Begin date and end date. There is a requirement like if the begin date starts with say Apr 2011
and end date as Aug 2014, then the first row group of list should show data from Apr 2011 to Dec 2011 and next row group should show from Janualry Month. i.e., Jan-12 to Dec-12(Second Row group), Jan13-Dec13), Third Row Group. Then Jan14 to Aug 14.
