Conversion from forms6i to web

have completed my LAN app (MIS) comprising of 20 modules, 50 users, 25 db schemas.... Now we are going to convert our app into WAN app (Web Based app) but i dont know from where to start and how to proceed. can somw one help me. we can change our OS,DB version,devsuit to accomplish this task.

I can tell you how we did the same for our Forms 6i applications.
We did install Forms and Reports server, 6i some years ago, and 10g (9.0.4) now : we are using the standalone version Forms and Reports services, since we don't need infrastructure.
We still develop our applications in Client/server version, because some of our customers still use this architecture, but Forms run indifferently on the Web. We simply copy sources to application server and recompile Forms.
Of course to do that there are things to consider when developing/migrating Forms. Have a look at

Conversion from BO 5.1.9 Deski to BO XI 3.1 SP3 Webi

Hi Everyone,
As part of of our project, we are executing a BO upgrade project and have undertaken BO report migration and conversion from deskI in BO 5.1.9 to WebI in BO XI 3.1. The conversion of reports was assumed to be carried out through the report conversion tool (RCT) of BO XI 3.1 SP3. However, RCT has failed in converting all deskI reports to WebI.
Hence, we are seeking your help & assistance in finding out, the optimal way of resolving the problem. Can you please indicate:
1. Is there any hotfix/patch that SAP can provide for making RCT more robust resulting in elimination of conversion errors/influence the success rate of report conversion?
2. If no hotfix for RCT is present, can we get quick answers from SAP through the alliance for resolution of these report conversion errors? We have received the below errors when we made an attempt at report conversion
1.Breaks in Web Intelligence can only be set on objects present in the block
2 Objects cannot be hidden in Web Intelligence documents
3.Page setup options are not implemented in Web Intelligence (First page number, page order, scale, Fit to N pages)
4.Across options for crosstabs are not available in Web Intelligence -5.Detail variables have no associated dimension in Web Intelligence 6.Conditional or permanent Hide Header not available in Web Intelligence 7.Function not available in Web Intelligence
8.The formula of a global filter in Desktop Intelligence cannot be migrated into a Web Intelligence report filter
9.A formula from a Desktop Intelligence block filter cannot be migrated into a Web Intelligence block filter
10.Unsupported 'Do not retrieve data' option
11.Conditional or permanant Hide Footer does not exist in Web Intelligence
12.Keyword not available in Web Intelligence
13.Unsupported Data Provider

Report Conversion Tool cannot guarantee 100% conversion rates. It's imposible due to functionality differences that still exist between Full Client/Deski and Webi documents.
If you have a report that won't convert - you will have to manualy re-create it in Webi. It'll show you if design you use is even possible there or not.
As to the list of errors you provided - each one has to be reviewed and investigated to see why it happens.
Like #3 - might be due to the fact that Webi has no page options or #13 might indicate unsupported data provider, lust like the error says.
You might want to open a support Incident to properly investigate all the errors you received, but keep in mind - 100% conversion is not possible unless you use simplest reports.

Calling HTML file from Forms6i

Hi,
I am wanting to invoke a HTML file(residing in the hard disk)from Forms6i.Tried to use web.show_document,gives an forms error as follows
Frm-92020: Invalid URL C:\....sent to browser with target _self
Full Details: unknown protocol :c
Can anyone tell me what the problem is here and how do i rectify this prob?

Hi Aparna
If ur form is opened thro' a web browser, then ur file should be in a directory path that has a virtual directory mapping in the web server.
For example, if you want to open a file, say C:\hml\abc.htm, then this path c:\html should have a valid virtual path, say /html/ defined on the web server.
Then u can use the web.show_document built-in like
WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('http://<hostname>:<port>/html/abc.htm','_blank');
This will +vely work

Running IE from Forms6i

Hi,
I would like to know is there anyway to run Internet Explorer or any web browser from Forms6i Menus without running the form in web. I just want to invoke a help file which is in html format through the web browser but my form is not web based. Right now I am using the host command to do this but I am not able to work in my Form till I close my browser. If anything like using OLE in Menus is available then it might be helpful or any builtins available to run this kind of web based applications. Forms6i being an application specifically designed for Web applications I think there should be something more available other than the just web.show_document builtin which restricts us in running the form in web. Any help would be grateful.

Thx. for ur reply but I am already using the same host command and it is working fine. But we do have some problems in using the host command like u need to close the external application or o/s based application before working back in forms and also that I would like to use a generic html tag which can be opened in any default browser defined for the system rather than mentioning or invoking explorer explicitly. I am looking for any new builtin available in FORMS6I which can support web integration with the application.

I'd recommend doing two things:
1) From the Start menu go to the Oracle Forms Developer Release 6i Manuals and read the manual on "Deploying Forms applications to the web with Forms server"
2) On OTN read the various papers on internet deployment at
http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/techlisting.html
particularly have a look at "Oracle9iAS Forms Services Release 6i Patch 10" (which applies to patch 10 and above) which describes how to use the Forms Listener Servlet which is the simplest way to set up your Web deployments.

Can not connect from Forms6i to PO8i.

My PC is a NT named 'oracle'. I have first installed Forms6i in DEFAULT_HOME, c:/orant.
PO8i is installed as:
Oracle Home: ora8i
Full Path: c:\orant\ora8i
Choose Typical Install
Global Database Name: ora8i.oracle.master.com.au
SID: ora8i
Then I added an entry in c:\orant\net80\admin\tnsnames.ora as:
test.world

I can connect to PO8i from SQL*Plus using scott/tiger or scott/tiger@ora8i.
When I tried to connect to PO8i from Forms6i using scott/tiger@test or scott/tiger@ora8i. I got ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name.
If I use scott/tiger@test from SQL*Plus, I got the same error.
If I use scott/tiger from Forms6i, I got ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination.

Getting ÿþ as saved conversations from Lync in Outlook in Office 2013

Hi,
I've been trying to get to the bottom of this and have found similar posts, but no one seems to have an answer.
When I IM someone using Lync 2013, they get a pop up notification but instead of the message they see ÿþ<. Once they open the chat window, they can see my typed text. Occasionally, certain people can't see the first line of my chat, but as
long as they keep the chat window open, they can see everything new I type.
All my conversations that are saved in outlook show ÿþ< for the text and are unreadable. I've disabled the saving of conversations because they have become worthless.
I believe it has to do with BOM but have not been able to find a way to fix this.
If I copy a conversation from the chat window and paste it into Microsoft Word it shows ÿþ<, but if I paste it into notepad the conversation appears.
(I had inserted a screenshot here, but am unable to because I am unable to figure out how to get my account "verified")
I've tried changing the preferred encoding for outgoing messages: to Unicode (UTF-8) in Outlook, but this had no effect and I can't find a similar option in Lync 2013.

I enabled logging for Lync and the event IDs that come up are 1, 11 and 12, to which I cannot find any information for at the moment.

Did the issue happen only for you or for multiple users?
Please try to delete Lync User Profile and information on Registry, then repair Office 2013.
The path of Lync User Profile: %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
The path for information on Registry: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
Then test the issue again.

How do I show/refresh data from an Access Web App in an Excel spreadsheet saved in a Document Library on Sharepoint 2013 online

I have an Access 2013 Web App in my Sharepoint 2013 online website. It contains a query to report on its data (several, actually, but let's keep it simple). I want to connect an Excel spreadsheet to the query, visualise the data in pivot tables/graphs/whatever,
save the spreadsheet in a Document Library, and let other team site Sharepoint users open the spreadsheet (preferably in Excel online, but with Excel client if it has to be) and see/copy the data, refreshed with the latest information from the Access Web App.

The way I'm doing it at the moment is to create an ODC file to connect to the cloud-based Access 2013 database, save that ODC in a Data Connection Library in the SP site, and use the saved ODC file as data source in the Excel spreadsheet. This works and
successfully keeps everything 'in the cloud' but I can't get it to refresh in Excel Online, and if I open the spreadsheet in Excel Client I have to enter the database password every time to refresh it. I don't really want to issue this password to everyone
who might want to view the data. There must be a better way than this ODC method, I suspect.
Googlings on this have led down various blind alleys - Excel Services, PowerPivots, Web Parts - but I'm stuck on which to follow through. Please, someone, point me to an article/book/website that explains how to do this step-by-step in simple language..

I don't see any quick way of achieving it - at least there's no such functionality exists in SharePoint. All you can do, develop an event receiver that will update the fields in the list item once the excel file is added/updated. You can use OpenXml API
to manipulate the excel file.

I am getting messages that I can't download and read .pdf files since I have the wrong Adobe reader. I know about their security disasters of course, but I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader from the Adobe web site and I have other ,pdf file readers as well, and for some reason they won't work either. I have 5 computers running top end processors and RAM. By this I mean I have one, this one which I am using that has an AMD Phenom Black 3.2 Quad-core with 8 GBs of Corsair top DDR2 RAM, my other two AMD have either an Athlon II triple core with 4 GBs of DDR2 Corsair RAM, one with the Phenom X4 965 3.4 GHz Quad-core with 8 GBs of their best DDR2 RAM, and two Intels with the i7 920 Processors using the triple channel 1366 socket processors and one with 8 GBs of low latency DDR3 RAM and the other with 4 GBs of the same RAM. I am getting the message on this one, which has a fresh install of XP Pro X64 operating system, as do the other 4 as well. I have run Avast Business Pro Anti-virus on this one, which I am getting the message on with a single result which I deleted, and also both Spybot Search and Destroy, which came back clean as well as Malwarebytes Antimalware, which got a lot of tracing cookies now removed, and SuperAntiSpware which also found a few cookies also now deleted. Can you tell me what I need to do to get these files to show as .pdf files rather than as a clean blank page. One other issue is that I wish to know how to turn off my downloads so they are saved and Mozilla will give me the option of returning them instead of me losing them all together as it does now. Thanks for your assistance. If there is another Adobe reader I should download and install, could you provide me with the link to it? I appreciate your assistance here

Usually only Open Invoices and Unapplied Receipts are migrated from Old system to New Instance.
Post Migration Reconciliation shall be tough in that scenario. Reconsider/Rediscuss with Client.
Migration can be done using APIs or Custom Scripts using Standard Interfaces.

I want this to be oblivious to the user, so no forms etc...
Is there a way to do this using mailto:// without something popping up?
Something like this would be first class:

Reports 9i Printing from Forms with WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT

I want to print a Report from Forms via WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT directly to the printer and it works fine.
But every time i print it from my web application a new browser-windows opens and shows a message "Printed successfully" or something like that. If I start the printjob again nothing happens - if I press the Browser-Refresh-Button in the new Browser-Windows with the Message ("Printed Successfully") it prints.
So now I have 2 questions:
a) How can I disable the "Printed successfully"-Message
b) What hava I to do that I not must press on the Refresh-Button to start the printing again
I hope I hava explained my problem clearly. 4

Does anyone know how to fix either of these?
