Convert table keys from random to sequential :: algorithm

I hope I am at the right forume..
We are using Oracle as our DB.
One of our major data table has random keys. this is due to legacy issues.
This table is getting big and the random access process is slowing the system down.
We want to change the table Id's from random to sequential.
In order to do that we have to change the original Id's to sequential ones.
Our table has 2 columns:
id (number - 10)
value (varchar -1024)
The table contains about 500 million rows (as for now)
this table also has junk records that needs to be deleted.
I am trying to think of a way to convert all the random id values into sequential ones, and change all of their references accordingly.
I tried to look for an algorithm to do that.
Is copying such a table is time consuming?
is there a way to change the id's into sequential ones without copying the table?
I'm a JAVA developer - not a DBA, so I don't really know the "cost" of these actions..

Has your table a trigger ? A primary key ? Other tables with foreign key references ?
You could probably use an Oracle sequence and update your table, helping within a trigger before update to update the subsequents tables from old to new value. However, since you have millions rows, and the update will have to go through every single row, it will be a slow process.

Hello Kevin,
The question to use which method depend on your detail requirements. If you use BAPI, you need to find which Bapi can provide the data you want. Bapi normally use as a function called by external system. So you need to develop an external program like VB/Java to call this Bapi and move it to SQL. LSMW is use when you want to upload data from an external system to SAP. So it does not serve your requirement. Idoc can be use to export data to an external system. Again like Bapi, you need to find what Idoc can provide the data you want. However, it does not any programming from the external system. If I were you, based on your requirements, I think writing an Abap program that read the data you want and download it to NT/SQL server will be faster and easier.

Remove fields from table key

I define a customize table (maintenance only by cust., not SAP import).
5 of the fields are the table keys.
When I remove 2 fields from the key and adjust the table I get the following errors
Primary key change not permitted for value table ZT7IL60
Activation of Table ZT7IL60 not possible (please check)
Any clue why and how to remove some fields from the key?

the reason for this error can be any....
may be you are using that field in the foreign key reference of another table. thats y it is not allowing the change option as it will affect other table's values.

Remove partition key from partitoned table

can somebody help me with a sql syntax to remove a partition key from a partiton table . The scenario is explained as follows:
create table t1 (c1 number, c2 number ,c3 number)
partition by range (c1, c2)
(partition p1 values less than 11,
partition p1 values less than 21,
partition p1 values less than 31 );
i have data in this table and lot of indexes built, so i cannot drop this table to recreate it.
All i want is to remove c1 from partition key (c1,c2).
I will appreciate if somebody can give me a SQL syntax for this.

Do you have a reason not to use the current selection listener selectionListener="#{bindings.NotificationOfDifficultiesVO.collectionModel.makeCurrent}" on your table to let the framework do the work for you and then simply call the delete method on the VO?

Hello Subhadra, I'm sorry, I should've said join of LFBK and BNKA. The fields for the join will be the bank country(BANKS) and bank key (BANKL).

This is how your join should look in BASIS mode, your selection parameter should be vendor code LIFNR; output fields with be bank name BANKA and swift code SWIFT.

Convert table from % to Pixels

Does anyone know how to convert table that is already full of
cells and text from % to pixels? I don't want to try and build
another table and copy the cell contents into it, this table is too

properties box is open, then select the tables using the tag
selector
and enter the table width in pixels. Then select a column in
turn and
add the width of the column in pixels -

parent keys not foundWell, while the constraint was not available (dropped), someone took the opportunity and inserted rows into your child table that do not have a corresponding value in your parent table.
Why was the constraint dropped in first place? why did you give someone the opportunity to insert constraint violating value into the table?
You must either:
1). remove the child rows not found in parent
2). create parent rows fr missing child rows.
3). enable novalidate the constraint so existing values can remain without parent but future rows must confirm.

How can I convert table object into table record format?

I need to write a store procedure to convert table object into table record. The stored procedure will have a table object IN and then pass the data into another stored procedure with a table record IN. Data passed in may contain more than one record in the table object. I want to create rsa private key from .key file. I searched a lot but could not find a way to do so. how can i do that ???

'pem' stands for Privacy Enhanced Mail and defines an encoding to ASCII of binary data and not the format of the content of the file. Having said that, it looks to me that your file is a PEM encoded SSLeay format RSA key generated using OpenSSL and encrypted using the '-des3' option. Before loading into Java I normally convert, using OpenSSL, SSLeay files to a PKCS8 format private key and an X509 format public key certificate file. These are then easily loaded into Java.
The OpenSSL documentation will tell you how to generate the PKCS8 and X509 files but there are numerous sites that will hand-hold you through the commands. Google is your friend. Once you have generated these files then Google will also provide source code for loading them into Java.

How To Update A Table View From Client Side !!!!

Hi I would like to update a table view from the Client Side. So that the user can keep updating the relevent data on the client and when they have finally finished they can press Save so the entire page is then sent to the Server.
Does anyone know how to do this, I guess u have to use the EPCM, I have just started on it and would really appreciate some Help.

This is what I found :-
There are a couple of ways to approach this.
1) load the excel spreadsheet into the database "as is". You can use interMedia
text to convert the .xls file into a .htm file (HTML) or use iFS (see
http://technet.oracle.com/
for
more info on that) to parse it as well. InterMedia text will convert your XLS
spreadsheet into a big HTML table (easy to parse out what you need at that
point)
2) Using OLE automation, a program you write can interact with Excel, request
data from a spreadsheet, and insert it. Oracle Forms is capable of doing this
for example as is other languages environments. In this fashion, you can remove
the "manual" and "sqlldr" parts -- your program can automatically insert the
data.
3) You can write a VB script that uses ODBC or Oracle Objects for OLE (OO4O) in
Excel. This VB script would be able to put selected data from the spreadsheet
into the database. We would recommend OO4O. It provides an In-Process COM
Automation Server that provides a set of COM Automation interfaces/objects for
connecting to Oracle database servers, executing queries and managing the
results. OO4O is available from

Hi,
Once a UDF is created and a value is entered in it, the same cannot be retrieved in any of the layouts and reports unless a Key is generated for that UDF. By assigning a Key to that UDF, the same UDF can be used in Crystal Reports or any other Reporting tool to extract its values from SAP. These reporting tools searches the Uniqueness of the UDF Values with this Keys only.
For eg.: When you develop a report and select a table from which you need the fields to be shown in the layout. In that, the only fields whose keys are generated are only available to use in the report.

Don't rely upon Time Machine to the exclusion of all else. I compliment Time Machine with a periodic "clone". TM is much better than nothing, but it's a safety net, not a hammock
Here is my understanding of Time Machine's file deletion algorithm, distilled from Pondini's FAQ, Apple's KB articles, and my own observations.
Time Machine deletes ("thins") files from the backup disk as follows:
Hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first backup of the day
Daily backups over 30 days old, except the first backup of the week
Older backups get deleted when Time Machine requires space and you deleted them from the source disk.
Therefore, assuming TM has been performing at least one backup per day, backup files will remain available:
at least thirty days, if they existed on your Mac for at least a day
until you run out of space, if they existed on your Mac for at least a week
In addition to the above, Time Machine always keeps one complete copy of your source disk so that the entire volume could be restored if necessary. Any files that remain on your source volume will be present on the TM backup, no matter how old they are.
If you are using 250 GB of space on your source disk, its Time Machine backups are likely to require at least twice that much. A good estimate of the minimum required backup volume size would be about three times the size of your source disk - 1.5 TB in your case.
A more thorough explanation would require Pondini since he has plumbed Time Machine's mysteries far more than I have.

Getting KEYS from a database!

I have a serious problem! I have to get the Keys(Column Names) from a Database (MS-ACCESS) Table.
JDBC2.0 contains a class called DatabaseMetaData. It has functions like getPrimaryKeys(), getImportedKeys() and getExportedKeys(), all of which I have to use. But I'm unable to access these functions because the "Driver does not support these functions". I tried using the JDBC-ODBC driver, IDS Server Driver and the JDataConnect drivers. All of them gives the same error message.
Is there any way to get the Keys from the table?
I found a way to get the Primary Keys - I'm getting it from the Indexes - getIndexInfo() function.
But I haven't found a way to get the Foreign keys and other keys in the tables.
Does anybody know how to get the keys from an MS-ACCESS database?

The JDBC API is mainly a set of interfaces required to be implemented by the JDBC Driver vendor. Because these are interfaces, the vendor is free to actually implement whatever logic they see fit, but of course they will implement what is required.
I would suspect if you are getting a 'Not supported by Driver' type error, it is because the vendor had to implement that method, but did not implement it with code that does the desired logic.
Most likely, this was either very, very hard to do or just could not be done give that the driver was written for a particular database.
If this is something you need, I can only suggest trying to write a procedure (can you do that in MSAccess?) which does the logic you need (in Access) and returns the info you want. You can then access it via a CallableStatement.
