Convert to mp3 error --help!

I have aif and aifc files in my iTunes library that I created in a voice recording app on my iPod Touch. I want to convert them to mp3. However, when I right-click the aif/aifc files in the iTunes library and choose "Create mp3 version" it gives me this error: "Error occurred while converting the file. The disk could not be read from or written to." I have tried several of these files and all do the same thing. How do I resolve this??? THANKS!!!!

I personally do not know of any program that will test for corruption but usually if it is corrupt (Not in all cases but some) they will play in windows media player/winamp but you will notice a loud pop, scraching sounds, in short just what i call "Garbage" noise and the beginning or end of the song.
If they are corrupt, it could of been caused by anything. Could of been a program on the system that damaged them, could be on a bad sector on the harddrive, malware could of caused it ect ect the list goes on and on.
Since you say you have an ipod, the short way of fixing it (Long as there on ipod and play) is to just delete them all, clear there listing in iTUnes, then use a third party program to copy them from iPod like yamipod (Recommened by most here and free) http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/ and reading this artivcal at iLounge (They talk about a shareware program PodUtil but you can use the trail version for free to do a basic copy and have it list them in iTunes) http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/

  • Movie Tools Convert to MP3 Error

    I've been using the convert to MP3 movie tool regularly for 5 or 6 months to flatten the .mov file recordings I get from my skype call recorder program. Recently, the converter has been giving me the following errors for no apparent reason (NOTE: these were in separate pop-up windows)
    "Sorry. There was an error trying to convert the file. File Macintosh HD:private:var.folders:sQ:sQu-28IJFAmlvC6ylNRsKE+TI:-Tmp-:-Tmp-:pathToFile wasn't found."

    Looking for a fix/recommendation to get it working again!

    Began happening after years of use. Could it be related to an iTunes update?
    Anyone found a workaround?

    About to back up iTunes to XHD. Have old version 10.6.3.  Have been afraid to update with 40GB of music. Been digitizing vinyl.  In this version, playlists export as m3u, which needs to be converted to MP3-Song by song??? Goal is to also be able to burn MP3 to flash drive and to XHD as usable data.
    Help?? What do I do first?  Could export as m3u-then figure it out later? Or will this data be unreadable junk in a new version of iTunes?
    Does new version 11.whatever., have a provision to make all into MP3? Obviously past applecare contract.
    Been looking at forums-not clear what to do.
    Is there a simple way to convert/export m3u as MP3 in the newest version of iTunes?  Am I asking the right questions???

  • Unknown error when converting to mp3

    I am trying to convert a track I just downloaded from the itunes store to an mp3.  I have done this many times and I know how to do it.  Except now when I select to convert to mp3, I get "Itunes Unknown Error (-3)".  When I try to convert to one of the other options, it just gives me the first 15 seconds.  But what I really need is the mp3.
    Stefan

    I too have been getting this error when attempting to convert a newly purchased song to mp3.  This has only started happnning recently in iTunes 10.6.3.25.  It turns out that this happens when the newly purchased songs are not complete.  The real problem seems to be with downloading new songs form iTunes Store.  iTunes reports a successful and complete download, but when I go to play the song, only 30 seconds to a minute of audio exist.  It has been occurring so frequently, that I will not purchase another song until the problem is fixed.

  • Cannot export or convert to MP3 as stated in help

    I'm trying to perform a simple MP3 export of my own music from my iPod to disk and/or iTunes. Searching help, I find several incorrect articles about how to go about doing this. With the song selected in my iPod (via iTunes) I follow the instructions on converting or exporting to an MP3 file.
    It simply will not work. There are no "convert to mp3" options anywhere, as mentioned in the help.
    I'm unable to do a simple copy from my iPod by dragging a song from the iPod into the iTunes window on my Mac. Likewise, I cannot drag the song out of the iPod onto my desktop, which used to work.
    Several help topics that claim to be related to exporting songs have nothing to do with exporting, but concern importing instead.
    I should point out again that the songs are my own creation without any hindrances like DRM.
    I'm at a total loss on how to do something that could not possibly be more simple

    I'm trying to perform a simple MP3 export of my own music from my iPod
    You cannot.
    There are no "convert to mp3" options anywhere, as mentioned in the help.
    The songs need to be in iTunes, not on the iPod.
    I'm unable to do a simple copy from my iPod by dragging a song from the iPod into the iTunes window on my Mac.
    This is not possible.
    Likewise, I cannot drag the song out of the iPod onto my desktop, which used to work.
    No, this has never been possible unless you enabled the iPod for disk use and you added the song to the iPod on the desktop, not thru iTunes.

  • Converting M4A to MP3.  Help needed.

    I have over 12,000 songs in my library. About half of my songs were imported in mp3 format. The other half are AAC audio files. My goal is to have all of my songs in mp3.
    So, I started to 'convert' the AAC files to mp3 using the right click in iTunes. Then I noticed something. Let's say the original m4a file for a certain song was 4.56MB. Now, after it's been converted to mp3 the file has doubled in size to 9.12MB. Even though I deleted the orginal m4a. What is going on? How can convert all my songs to mp3 and not have any of the data left of the m4a?
    Thank you so much

    Sounds like you are using a much larger bit rate for importing MP3 tracks than AAC tracks. For example, normally, AAC files default to a bit rate of 128kbps unless you go into the import preference and pick a higher custom rate. Likewise, you can change your import preference to MP3 and pick different rates, 128, 160, 192, 256, etc.
    In general, AAC files are a bit smaller than the SAME bit rate MP3 track, so a 128-AAC should be a bit smaller than a 128-MP3. But for the sake of argument, let's say they are the same size. If you imported a lot of AAC files at 128 and are not using an import MP3 setting of 256 kbps, then the MP3 files will be roughly twice the size as the AAC files.
    So first thing to check is what bit rate are the AAC files you already have and what bitrate you are now using for MP3 files. If the MP3 bit rate is much larger than the AAC bit rate, then you will get much larger files sizes.

    Patrick

  • Option to Convert to MP3 Gone?

    My son recently bought a Sony Walkman. He transferred over his itunes library onto the walkman and all but about 8 songs transferred. Those songs say they are m4p and the walkman will not play them. Ok, so I go into his library and right click so I can convert it to an mp3 file and . . . . there is no option to do this. I know there used to be and my daughter has it as an option in her library on her laptop. I checked my laptop and I don't have the convert to mp3 option either. What the heck am I missing? Halp! Thanks.

    Hello,
    I have tried changing my import settings for Mp3 encoder, but in the box where you do that it tells you that the Mp3 encoder does not work with songs purchased in the iTunes store. I use to be able to convert my purchases to Mp3s in older versions of iTunes. I have songs that I have bought that won't burn to CD in itunes keeps telling me that an error has occurred but won't tell me what the error is . So I need to get back to the option of creating Mp3s. I've tried deauthorizing my computer and reinstalling iTunes, and that still didn't work. I aam in dire need of help. I DON'T WANT the option of AAC versions.
    Thanks

  • Can't convert to MP3 with itunes music

    I have downloaded some music but I am not able to convert my purchased itunes songs to MP3 so that I can put it into a personal movie maker project that I am doing. When I try to convert the song, I get this message: "Amazing Grace" could not be converted because protected files cannot be converted to other formats. How can I get this into my Windows Movie Maker?

    Di5,
    The protected tracks sold in the iTunes Music Store are not mp3s, and under the terms of the ITMS license cannot be legally converted to mp3 format. iTunes does not provide a way to do the conversion, and if you are a rocket scientist and figure it out, you would not (as Paul correctly notes) be allowed to discuss it in this Forum.
    To get mp3s, you need to look elsewhere, such as (1) rip from CD (2) purchase from an online store that sells songs in mp3 format, such as audiolunchbox.com, or (3) purchase from an online store that allows format conversion. On the last item, puretracks.com states that "When Puretracks files are burned to a CD through Windows Media Player 9, these music CDs will be recognized and can be ripped by iTunes."
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes 8 can not convert to mp3

    I just updated to itunes 8 and now I can not convert to mp3 anymore! The CREATE mp3 version is greyed out and I can not pick it. I have checked and the import mp3 option is checked in the settings.

    Howdy!
    also, it appears that Apple did not update the "iTunes Help" screens when they made iTunes 8 -- those screens still refer to the "advanced" tab in preferences, even though the importing functions are no longer located there:
    THEY READ as follows:
    *Choosing import settings*
    You can choose the encoding format and other settings that iTunes uses to import songs. Your choices affect the audio quality and size of the song file (the higher the quality, the larger the file size).
    To choose import options:
    Choose iTunes > Preferences and click Import Settings.
    ETC. Well, at least they didn't do an iMove-style "revamp" to iTunes.! 8)

  • Convert to mp3

    So, I have recently been using the "convert to mp3" tool in iTunes, but sometimes there is a problem. I will try to change a whole album at a time, and some songs will, once converted, be shortened to 4:01. Even when the song is 6 minutes long or so, it will stop at 4:01. I can retry the conversion sometimes, and it will work perfectly, and other times it will ALWAYS cut it short. The reason I have been doing this was because it was the only solution to another problem I was having. New songs put in my library would play on my laptop, but not my ipod. If anyone can help with that, please tell me, but the conversion seemed to help. Until now :/
    I don't know why this is happening, because the songs are much longer than 4:01, but they just stop at the time with some of the conversions.

    Export (now under the "Share" menu) your song to iTunes.
    In the iTunes preferences (Advanced > Importing) select MP3 (at the bit rate of your choice, though MySpace may have file-size limits).
    Then, in iTunes, select the AIFF of the the song you exported from GB, and choose "Convert to MP3" from the pull-down or contextual menu.
    When uploading to MySpace, you'll have to drill down through your iTunes music folders to find the Artist>Album folder in which the MP3 is stored.
    Shouldn't be too hard -- I've slung a few of my GarageBand recordings onto a Myspace page.
    Cheers,
    Carl

  • Converted WinHelp to HTML Help and context-sensitive topics aren't working.

    Converted WinHelp to HTML Help and context-sensitive topics
    aren't working. Anyone run across this?

    I am a developer and we have big project that needs to be
    converted from winhelp to HTML help. I received only the .CHM help
    file from the help auther. I added the HTMLhelp.lib file and
    HTMLhelp.h file in to my project. I tried to change atleast one
    page of the dialog. I added on helpinfo function htmlhelp function
    call and hard coded the .chm file path and for the right click I as
    well did the same thing. But I am getting "No Help topic is
    associated with this item" upon F1 key and crash after the right
    click with wincore.cpp error.
    The code is as below.
    BOOL CCnvCfgGenNRecPage::OnHelpInfo(HELPINFO* pHelpInfo)
    // TODO: Add your message handler code here and/or call
    default
    if (pHelpInfo->iContextType == HELPINFO_WINDOW)
    int nCtrlId = pHelpInfo->iCtrlId;
    DWORD dwContextId = pHelpInfo->dwContextId;
    //THE NEW HTMLFUNCTION CALL
    ::HtmlHelp((HWND)pHelpInfo->hItemHandle,
    "D:\\vista_setup\\Patmob\\PatMob.chm",
    HH_TP_HELP_WM_HELP,
    (DWORD)&IDARRAY(nCtrlId, dwContextId)) ;
    THE OLD CODE
    ::WinHelp ((HWND)pHelpInfo->hItemHandle,
    AfxGetApp()->m_pszHelpFilePath,
    HELP_WM_HELP,
    // HELP_WM_HELP flag brings up pop-up help and expects an
    array
    // of DWORD pairs of the control ID and the context help ID
    (DWORD)&IDARRAY(nCtrlId, dwContextId));
    return TRUE;
    DO I NEED ANY OTHER FILE? Should I checked out the dialog h
    file and .hm file which compling the html related code?

  • Can i use my quicktime pro to convert to .mp3???

    i edited (cropped) an .mp3 file and when i saved it, it automatically saved it as a .mov file even though its only audio
    i now want it back to .mp3
    is there anyway to do this, as far as i know i can only convert to au,aiff and wav files (in regards to audio formats) but no .mp3
    help???

    You can export to .aiff or Apple Lossless and then use iTunes to convert to MP3.
    I actually think you can can import the .mov file to iTunes and then convert it to MP3, but I don't have iTunes installed at work so I can't verify.
    There is also a shareware program called MP3 Trimmer available that allows you to edit MP3 files without recompressing them, so you don't degrade the audio quality.

  • Converting to MP3 without showing duplicate songs in iTunes?

    I have a decent song collection on my MBP which I've imported direct from CDs over the years. I've always imported the files in a lossless format (pretty sure its AIFF from memory) but now I want to convert several of the tracks to MP3 so I can fit more tracks on my iPhone and also so I can load them onto a USB drive to be played through my car stereo (which is only compatible with MP3s)
    I am familiar with how to go about the conversion but the problem is that I don't want two copies of each track to show up in my library. I usually view my tracks by Artist which lists all artists in the left pane and all songs in the right pane with the tracks displayed under each album. When I convert to MP3 it shows both versions of the track but doesn't say which format each one is in.
    Ideally I'd like to display only the AIFF versions of the tracks. Is there any way to only show particular file types or can anyone think of a workaround?
    Unfortunately since I would be syncing my iPhone with the MP3 versions of the tracks I can't simply delete them after I've loaded them onto my phone.

    There are a couple of methods to accomplish what you want to do.
    1. Connect your iPhone to your computer via USB/Thunderbolt and in the Summary panel for the iPhone in iTunes select the option to "convert higher bit rate songs to..." This will automatically down-convert the lossless files for you without putting duplicates in the iTunes library.
    2. Use Smart Playlists to display the file types you want to see. Set it up like so:
    Additionally if you have ripped the in AIFF you might want to consider cross-converting the files to Apple Lossless. Using this script can help with the process: http://dougscripts.com/162
