  • Adding time stamp to table/array

    Hi,
In my posted VI I am displaying some collected temperature data on a table.  What I am having trouble with is getting the time data to work properly on the table.  When I set the include time data to true, it reads out the time as 1904 etc. I'm not sure if it's possible for me to include a time stamp in my array because when I try to convert a time stamp to a double precision float, the output is still a cluster, and thus cannot be added to the array.  I've also tried to convert the array to a string and concatenate the time stamp on, but the signals input for the table does not accept strings, and because I would eventually like to export this table to a spreadsheet in a file, I don't really want to link the strings to the indicator directly.  I've tried to work with the instrument as well, but when I read time data from it it gives it back in the form of multiple numbers, such as 2008, 8, 28, 13, 30, 31.12 and I can't consolidate it to one number.  Needless to say, I'm a little stumped and am open to suggestions on how to fix this problem, whether its a quick fix or a change in the way I'm trying to record the data.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Here are the sub VI's that I'm using.  The inner while loop is designed so that the loop will halt immediately when stopped, and not have to finish its current iteration, as the iteration period is intended to be rather long.  I may modify the program to have a programmable start/stop time later, but this is at least my temporary solution.  The purpose of the decimate array function is to seperate out the channel label from the actual data so they can be placed as headers in the Excel function.  The intent was likely not clear with the lack of the SubVI's.  Overall, the display table on the front panel is no longer necessary, it was just for me to see how the table was working in the early stages of development.
The one issue I had with your suggestion is the fact that I the build waveform function only accepts a 1-D array for the waveform input, and with multiple and variable number of channels being used I'm not sure how I could easily manipulate the data I gather into multiple 1-d arrays.
As always the help is appreciated,
    Mike

  • Time Stamps in Producer/Consumer Setup

I am trying to acquire signal from a Gas Analyzer, Flow Meter, and 3 RTDs.  My hardware is a NI 9215 and NI 9217.  I need to write the data to a file with a time stamp at which the sample was read.  The program is written in a producer/consumer setup in which the data is being acquired in the prodcuer loop and sent to the consumer loop to be written.  I can get the samples written to the file okay. However, I have not figured out how to put the time stamp in the data file correctly. I thought the time stamp was created with the corressponding measurement at the Data Acquisition VI. However, whenever I open the data file, there are only 0s in the time column.  So, I've tried to use Format/Date String to add the time stamp. I can get it to work if I place it in the consumer loop. However, the time stamp is not accurate.  It puts the same time stamp up to six digits of precision for two consecutive samples. I've tried to figure out how to add it to the producer  loop, but I don't know how to add it and the measurements to the queue at the same time. Please tell me the best way to acquire signals with the exact time stamp and write them to a file using a producer/consumer design.
     Example:
    Date             Time               RTD1     RTD2      RTD3     CO2      Flow
    5/26/07      5:20:01.25       57         56         56.5      100       0.5
    5/26/07      5:20:01.30       57         56         56.5      100       0.5
    5/26/07      5:20:01.35       57         56         56.5      100       0.5

  • Can I create a time stamp of 2ms or 1ms resolution in a text file

I have trouble creating time stamps in text files that have 2ms resolution. Although my timed loop in LV 7.1 is running the code at 500 Hz without any late iterations, and I record all the data points in the data file, the time stamps are the same in ms range for 5 consecutive points, i.e 10ms resolution. I would like the time stamps to have a 2ms resolution, where each data points every 2ms should show a different milisecond time stamp.
I am trying to do this to be able to show exact 2ms-time stamps for each data sample from 1 digital input line sampled at 500 Hz using NI-DAQmx 7.2. So far I have been using "Get/Date Time in Seconds" and "Format Date/Time String" to display the time stamp in the milis
    econd range.

Use the Tick Count (ms) function. Call Get Date/Time in Seconds when you start to get time of day. Also call the Tick Count (ms). After acquiring each point call Tick Count (ms) again and subtract from the starting tick count. Then add this to the starting Time in Seconds value (with appropriate scaling). The result is your timestamp.
Another approach: If you are using hardware timing for the 500 Hz acquisition, each sample is automatically 2 ms after the previous one. Record the start time and add 2 ms for each sample.

  • Problem in converting the String to Date with time zone GMT

    Hi,
When I tried to convert the string 12/05/2009 to Date, the time zone is set to BST.On the other hand, for the date 12/12/2009, the time zone is set to GMT. What should I do to get the time zone as GMT all the time.?
    SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
    String dateString = "12/05/2009";
    System.out.println(myDate.toString());

I think you are all missing the point. java.util.Date objects always alway always store the date as the number of milliseconds since 1/1/1970 UTC so the only TimeZone they have its the implicit UTC. When you use the Date.toString() method the toString() method gets the default time zone from your environment and formats the data accordingly. This means that the same Date object will, by default, produce a different result for France and Australia and the US.
So, if you have the date "12/5/2009" as a String then to convert it to a java.util.Date you must specify what TimeZone is implied. If it is your system time zone then you can just create a SimpleDateFormat object with the correct format and then use the parse() method to create the java.util.Date object and this will automatically be converted to UTC. If the date String represents some other time zone then you must explicitly set the time zone of the SimpleDateFormat object before parsing the string.
The same approach applies when converting a java.util.Date object to a String. If you want anything other than your system time zone then you must explicitly tell the SimpleDateFormat what time zone you want the result formatted for.

  • How to Convert Time Stamp to String for Filename use

I'm writing an Labview application in which I would like to convert pull time stamp infor from Time Stamp VI and convert to string so I can use to append as part of filename.
The fomat that I want may look something like basefilename081208_1300.  This would represent a file name that has elements consisting of the date 08/12/08 and 13:00 hours zulu.

    Hello:
Use the Format Date/Time String VI, and use as the format string the following: %d%m%y_%H%M
This way you'll get the date string you want.
Then concatenate the output to other strings you need to name your file.
    I've attached an screenshot.

  • [Oracle 8i] How to convert a string (time stamp) into a date?

I'm having difficulty figuring out how to convert a time stamp string into a date (or possibly a number).
The time stamp is 20 positions, character (NOT NULL, CHAR(20))
    in the format: YYYYMMDDHHMMSSUUUUUU
    where Y = Year, M = Month, D = Day, M = Minutes, S = Seconds, and U = Microseconds
The reason I want to convert this is so that I can compare one time stamp to another (i.e. I want to be able to find the MIN(timestamp), MAX(timestamp), and do inequality comparisons).
    Is this at all possible?
Thanks in advance for help on this!

    Hi,
As Damorgan said, if all you want to do is find which is the earliest or latest, then you can just compare the strings: they happen to be in a format where that works.
If you need to do other things, such as compare them to today's date, or see the difference between two of your rows in days, then you have to convert them to DATEs. (There's no point in converting them to NUMBERs).
A new data type, TIMESTAMP, which handles fractions of a second, was introduced in Oracle 9.
Since you're using Oracle 8 (according to your subject line), you either have to
    (1) ignore the microseconds, or
    (2) use a separate NUMBER column for the microseconds.
Either way, use TO_DATE to convert the first 14 characters to a DATE:
    TO_DATE ( SUBSTR (txt, 1, 14)
            , 'YYYYMMDDHH24MISS'
)where txt is your CHAR column.
To convert the microseconds to a number (between 0 and 999999):
    TO_NUMBER (SUBSTR (txt, 15))

  • How to convert hex string to time stamp?

I am currently working on a project in which I have to read the data from a unit and display that data using LabVIEW. I am using serial communication for reading the data. The read data is in hex format.
Now, I want to convert this hex string to a time stamp value. I am reading total 16 bytes. How to convert this hex data to a time stamp value. I have developed a VI. But I want to know that the displayed time stamp is correct or not? Or suggest me some other solution.

  • Date time characteristic converted in a string in Universe OLAP

    Hi there,
We are facing to the following issue. Maybe one of you has been already facing to.
We have created a BO universe on top of BI queries (based on MDX) and we make WEBI reports.
We note when we update/refresh the OLAP structure, all characteristics (Number and date) are converted/considered as a character and string and we loose in that way the time information.
This is very ennoying when sorting on time dimensions as WEBI can only sort on Alphabetic order.
Indeed, we would like to display the last 13 month of a key figure as from the last month.
As the time characteristic is automatically converted by the Olap refresh structure in a string, we can't display the last 13 months in logical/natural/calendar order.
    Ex: NOV 2007 | DEC 2007 | JAN 2008 | FEB 2008 ....DEC 2008
    Any idea :
    - why the 'Refresh structure' command automatically convert into a string?
    - how to force him not to convert to string and keep the date information?
    - order date as the logical/natural/calendar one?
    Beforehand, thanks a lot

    Hi Ingo,
I'm using 0CMonth or 0CALMONTH which are SAP characteristics.
Do you know how to sort data by date and not by string?
When we recuperate infoobejcts from BI queriies, all objects are string and all LOV are sorted by string which don't help us.
imagine we have JAN 1996, JAN 1997,... FEB 1996 etc etc.
    A nightmare

  • Convert Data type from Oracle Data time string to SQL Date time data type

I have a time stamp column pulled from oracle into a SQL server db table varchar datatype column.

Following is the data present in the table:
    01-APR-11 02.15.00.026000 AM -08:00
    01-APR-11 04.15.00.399000 AM -08:00
    01-APR-11 06.15.00.039000 AM -08:00
I want to convert this data into sql server datetime data type.
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Sam.
I am unable to find the solution in other sites which is why I have posted it in Oracle forum for seeking solution.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Sam.

    Sam,
How are you actually loading the data into SQL*Server - are you using something like an Oracle gateway, BCP or another Microsoft utility of some sort ?
If you are using an Oracle problem then we may be able to help but if using a Microsoft utility then you should really follow up with Microsoft to know what format the data should be in to use a Microsoft utility.

  • Is there an easy way to convert a long string into an array?

I can convert a long string into a 1-d array by parsing and using build array, but I would like to know if there is a function to make this easier.
    For example:
    from/   aaaaaaaabbbbbbbbccccccccdddddddd         (string of ascii)
to/       an array that is 1-d with each element having eight characters
              aaaaaaaa
              bbbbbbbb
              cccccccc
              dddddddd

    Try something like this:
(If you can guarantee that the string length is an integer multiple of 8, you an drop the two triangular modes in the upper left. )

  • How do i convert a portion of day into a time?

How do i convert a portion of day into a time, without dividing and modding the number myself?
For example, i calculated solar noon UTC to be .733409047. Adding that to the date gives the correct answer:
    SQL> SELECT TO_DATE('1/1/2012', 'DD/MM/YYYY') + .733409047 FROM Dual;
    TO_DATE('1/1/2012',
    01/01/2012 17:36:07
A few questions, to actually understand this.
Is .733409047 implicitly converted? If so, to what datatype?
If i want HH:MM:SS does it need to be converted to a date, and then TO_CHAR? Or can the decimal be directly converted?
I'm currently trying to understand INTERVAL.
    SQL> select interval '.5' day from dual;
select interval '.5' day from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01867: the interval is invalid
So, i'm obviously misunderstanding it. Can it be used here?

Is .733409047 implicitly converted? If so, to what datatype? No, there is no conversion going on here, just Date Arithmetic .
In Oracle, if d is a DATE and n is a NUMBER (not necessarily an integer, and not necessarily positive), d+n is the DATE that is n days later than d.
If i want HH:MM:SS does it need to be converted to a date, and then TO_CHAR? Or can the decimal be directly converted?Sorry, I don't understand. Are you saying that you want to do something like date arithmetic, but instead of using a number like .733409047 (meaning about .73 of a day), you want to pass a string like '17:36:07' (meaning 17 hours, 36 minutes and 7 seconds)? If so, INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND is probably your best bet. (It looks like you're already thinking along these lines.)
I'm currently trying to understand INTERVAL.

So, i'm obviously misunderstanding it. Can it be used here? You can only use integers like that. If you want to use any number, then use date arithmetic to add to (or subtract from) a DATE, or use NUMTIDSINTERVAL to produce an INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND:
SELECT     NUMTODSINTERVAL (.733409047, 'DAY')     AS intrvl
    FROM     dual;Output:
    INTRVL
    +000000000 17:36:06.541660800
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements), maybe about 5 rows, and also post the results you want from that data.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
Always say which version of Oracle you're using.
